Daisy Ridley will star in and executive produce the series adaptation of Nina de Gramont’s best-selling novel “The Christie Affair” for Miramax TV, which is set to develop and produce the murder mystery. The series is set to be a reimagining of Agatha Christie’s 11-day disappearance in 1926, which mirrored many elements of the mystery genre the late author was known for.
Ridley will play Nan O’Dea, the mistress of Christie’s husband, who the series will center on. Throughout the show, Nan discovers that her life becomes entwined with Christie’s in ways that neither could ever expect. Writer Juliette Towhidi is adapting the script for television; her previous credits include “Calendar Girls”, “Death Comes to Pemberley,” “Testament of Youth” and “The Essex Serpent.”

After retiring her lightsaber for projects not set in a galaxy far, far away, Daisy Ridley is entering a deal with Miramax TV for The Christie Affair. In addition to taking on the lead role, Ridley will executive produce the series adaptation of Nina de Gramont’s best-selling novel. Juliette Towhidi is in charge of penning the script.
Via Amazon, here is a description of de Gramont’s novel:
In 1925, Miss Nan O’Dea infiltrated the wealthy, rarefied world of author Agatha Christie and her husband, Archie. In every way, she became a part of their life––first, both Christies. Then, just Archie. Soon, Nan became Archie’s mistress, luring him away from his devoted wife, desperate to marry him. Nan’s plot didn’t begin the day she met Archie and Agatha.
It began decades before, in Ireland, when Nan was a young girl. She and the man she...

The tragedy of World War One and how it robbed England of a generation of bright young men is recreated from a woman’s point of view in The Testament of Youth. Based on a best-selling memoir by Vera Brittain, published in 1933 and dramatized for British television in 1979, it’s fresh fodder for an American audience and presented in a manner that is forthright without ever lapsing into cliché. Some cynics may dismiss it as Masterpiece Theatre fodder, but Brittain’s story offers substance and surprise, as interpreted by screenwriter Juliette Towhidi and director James Kent. And if there is nothing particularly revolutionary in their approach, the story is solid and especially ...

★★★★☆ James Kent's magnificent feature debut Testament of Youth (2014), based on Vera Brittain's bestselling memoir about the First World War, is a real tearjerker that should move male and female audiences alike and appeal to fans of Joe Wright's Atonement (2007). Screenwriter Juliette Towhidi (Love, Rosie) focuses on Brittain's coming of age - from the rural idyll where she grew up, through the hallowed halls of Oxford, to the horrors of war - the loss she endured and the carnage she witnessed. All naturally led her down the path of pacifism. Vera (Alicia Vikander, Ex Machina), is desperate to study at Oxford but her father (Dominic West) disapproves of her academic ambition.

I keep saying it: Women have war stories too. War is not the exclusive province of men, whatever Hollywood would have us think. And Vera Brittain’s experiences during World War I make up one of the great women’s war stories: her 1933 book about her life and the war’s impact on her family and on British society was a bestseller, and its success gave her a public platform as a pacifist during WWII and into the Cold War.

Romantic comedies take more than their fair share of beatings from critics, who typically gripe about saccharine plots, thin characters and potentially hazardous amounts of schmaltz. There’s such a bias toward romcoms that most audiences outside of teenage girls tend to avoid them like the plague – and some films, like last year’s Blended, show that maybe there’s a good reason for that. But then comes along a film like Love, Rosie to prove that not every “chick flick” has to feel like pulling teeth.
You may not have heard of Love, Rosie. It features two sought-after Hollywood stars – Lily Collins of the now-stalled Mortal Instruments franchise, and Sam Claflin of the record-breaking Hunger Games franchise – yet received a tiny February release with little to no publicity, a surefire sign that execs aren’t holding their breath for sizeable returns. ★★★★☆ Débutante British feature film director James Kent, along with Calendar Girls (2003) screenwriter Juliette Towhidi, has succulently crafted an emotionally bruising, evocative and smartly streamlined adaptation of one of the greatest rallying cries to pacifism, Vera Brittain's remarkable Testament of Youth (2015). An account of her war years between 1914-18, Brittain's book is unique in a variety of ways and the challenges of adapting for the screen are numerous as a result. Kent, who gathers a cast of extremely bright young things, creates a drama that glides with sorrowful grace, pitching at a respectful and tear-inducing tone.

After a '70s BBC TV adaptation, Vera Brittain's World War I memoir Testament of Youth comes to the big screen this week under the stewardship of Harry Potter producer David Heyman and director James Kent. What emerges is a well-mounted drama that's a moving look at the seismic effect the Great War had on a generation.
Fast-rising Swedish star Alicia Vikander is the beating heart of the story, bringing spirit and steely determination (not to mention an impeccable British accent) to the role of Brittain. This will come as no surprise to those who caught her in A Royal Affair and Anna Karenina, and with Testament of Youth the first of eight films she has coming up in 2015, it's looking like a big year.

In case you’ve somehow avoided the endless festive muzak in every retail outlet, let us remind you: it will soon be Christmas. Once all that stress and over-indulgence is over, what else do we have to look forward to? That’s right – Valentine’s Day. So, to ensure first-daters and long-time loves have something amorous to watch at the flicks, Paramount has released a trailer for next February’s romance-fest, Love, Rosie.
Starring Lily Collins and Sam Claflin, the film follows a couple who have been best friends since they were five. Charting their experiences as they grow up and apart, Love, Rosie, will examine their missed opportunity for love and whether or not this type of recycled plot has the chance to form some sort of dramatic tension.
It might come across as cynical, but this sounds like a retread of the Anne Hathaway tearjerker, One Day. And about a million other rom-drams.

Ah, love, sex and... disappearing condoms? Okay, we weren't expecting that, and we have to admit, we kind of forgot this movie was being made at all, but lo and behold, the rom-com "Love, Rosie" has dropped two new teaser trailers to get your anticipation uh, rising.... Lily Collins and Sam Claflin lead this one, based on the novel “Where Rainbows End” by Celia Ahern (“P.S. I Love You"), adapted by Juliette Towhidi (“Calendar Girls”), and directed by Christian Ditter, that follows two best friends who suddenly get more than they bargained for when a brief sexual encounter winds up in a pregnancy, scuttling plans for college. And from there, the film will track their lives over the next dozen years. Can their friendship survive this? Looking at the officially released stills, the answer is probably yes. "Love, Rosie" opens in the U.K. this fall. No U.S. date yet.

The story begins when the now-married Elizabeth and Darcy ready themselves for their annual ball. When Elizabeth's sister, Lydia -- along with her husband, Wickham -- arrives, everything comes to a shocking stop.
