The already iconic police procedural Blue Bloods is coming to an end. This is an excellent opportunity to remember other TV shows about law enforcement officers – both bad cops and real detectives.

At today’s Warner Bros. Discovery (Wbd) Upfront presentation at Madison Square Garden, Chairman and CEO of U.S. Networks Kathleen Finch underscored the group’s focus on expanding its global franchises and developing new platform-agnostic shows that can drive linear ratings and engage audiences on Wbd’s streaming platform Max.
Emphasizing Wbd’s strength across the true crime, food, home, relationship, adult animation, and adventure genres, Finch announced that John Cena will host Discovery’s 36th annual Shark Week and that Food Network will create a baking competition inspired by Wbd’s Harry Potter.
“We are the most powerful creators of unscripted content across platforms and places. We draw the biggest collective audience in cable and provide an unparalleled way to reach consumers in a trusted environment. Our shows, franchises, and brands continue to deliver value to consumers and advertisers on linear and Max. Regardless of how or where they watch,...

Warner Bros. Discovery kept up with TV upfronts week’s biggest trend at their presentation out of The Theater at Madison Square Garden Tuesday: Promoting not just its TV slate as a prime ad-buying opportunity — but also its film franchises.
First up from CEO David Zaslav’s team, WB Discovery revenue and strategy chief Bruce Campbell addressed the Madison Avenue crowd following a sizzle featuring top Wbd IP and brands across film and TV series. Then Mindy Kaling took the stage to promote her Max comedy “The Sex Lives of College Girls” before introducing HBO and Max chairman and CEO Casey Bloys.
“I know when you look at me, you see a young, beautiful mother,” Kaling said. “The truth is I am an old Max veteran. I was here way back when Max was HBO Max, it was this whole other thing. It was just me, ‘Tom & Jerry’ reruns...

Two years after the final episode of Flip Or Flop, exes — and HGTV stars — Tarek El Moussa and Christina Hall are set to share the screen again in a new series for the network, The Flip Off.
The announcement was made at the Warner Bros. Discovery upfront presentation by Kathleen Finch, Chairman and CEO, US Networks, drawing some laughs from the audience.
“You laugh but you are going to watch,” Finch quipped.
Eleven years ago, HGTV’s Flip Or Flop helped usher a slew of home renovation shows starring couples and turned then-married new parents Tarek and Christina into instant celebrities. Flip Of Flop became a franchise with multiple spinoffs, but the mothership series came to an end after El Moussa and Hall’s much-publicized divorce.
Both of them remained in the HGTV fold and each has multiple series on the network.

U.K. sales and distribution outfit Blue Finch Films has boarded worldwide rights, excluding Australia and New Zealand, to thriller “Birdeater.”
The debut feature from filmmaking duo Jack Clark and Jim Weir follows a bride-to-be who is invited to join her own fiancé’s bachelor party on a remote property in the Australian outback. But as the festivities spiral into beer-soaked chaos, uncomfortable details about their relationship are exposed, and the celebration soon becomes a feral nightmare.
Blue Finch describes the film as “an unapologetic look at how Australia’s iconic masculine identity has become incompatible with contemporary gender politics.” The film stars Shabana Azeez (“Run Rabbit Run”) and Mackenzie Fearnley (“Operation Buffalo”) as the soon-to-be-wedded couple. Written by Clark, the film is produced by Stephanie Troost and Ulysses Oliver of Breathless Films. The Australian and New Zealand rights are with Umbrella Entertainment.

Harper Lee's "To Kill A Mockingbird" is about as quintessentially American as a classic book can get. The 1960 novel, which is still commonly read in schools today, follows young Alabaman girl Scout Finch as she endures the trials and tribulations of her pre-teen years -- and witnesses the grim realities of the Jim Crow-era South. Some aspects of "To Kill A Mockingbird" haven't aged perfectly, but the book remains beloved for good reason. It's funny, sharp, and emotional, full of wisdom and harsh truth, and builds a world that's vividly alive.
That world made the leap from the page to the big screen in 1962, when director Robert Mulligan and playwright Horton Foote adapted "To Kill A Mockingbird" as a film. The movie version is indelible in its own right. It's anchored by a precise performance from Gregory Peck, who plays compassionate defense attorney Atticus Finch. In the 60 years since...

Warner Bros. Discovery cable warrior Kathleen Finch is heading into her Super Bowl: the holiday season at Food Network.
“Fans come and we supersize them and super serve them with all this holiday content, daytime content, and primetime stuff,” Finch told Variety. “We have four big returning series this year, and that’s just talking about Christmas. We start with Halloween, and we started early and had a lot of really great stuff that worked really well and kicked off our strong ratings early in September.”
More than 63 million total viewers watched Food Network in the fourth quarter of 2022, and Finch is anticipating year-over-year growth for this season’s slate, which includes new series “Selena + Chef: Home for the Holidays” and “The Elf on the Shelf: Sweet Showdown.”

(Welcome to Did They Get It Right?, a series where we look at Oscars categories from yesteryear and examine whether the Academy's winners stand the test of time.)
With all the milestones that have occurred throughout the 95-year history of the Academy Awards, there are still plenty of accomplishments that have not transpired. No Black woman has ever been nominated for Best Director, and no Black person has ever won that category. No animated film has ever won Best Picture, and no documentary has ever been nominated. I do believe all of these things will eventually happen in the future. As the diversity of the industry steadily increases and Academy membership gradually expands, these sorts of things must happen as time moves on.
But there is one thing I remain skeptical about when it comes to Oscars milestones. It has nothing to do with representation, nor does it have to...

It's easy to take for granted the weirdness and shocking nature of the extraterrestrial's lifecycle in Ridley Scott's seminal 1979 horror film "Alien."
In "Alien," John Hurt plays Kane, a crew member of the futuristic space tug Nostromo who finds an outsize, leathery egg while exploring a mysterious alien vessel. The egg opens, and a strange monster -- part lobster, part bladder -- leaps out and grabs his face. He immediately goes comatose. Later, it is discovered that the monster, while still attached to his face, has inserted an unsettling biological tube down his throat. Kane's crewmates are unable to remove the monster from his face; when they pull on it, it begins to strangle Kane with its tail, and when they cut it, it bleeds acid that can eat through metal.
After a spell, the monster drops off Kane's face of its own volition and dies. What happened? It's...

As “Sanctuary” began, Dwight was convinced by a human coincidence named Jay to break into the Saviors’ onetime stronghold to retrieve the insulin that had been stolen from him by a ruffian named Marty. (Not only...

It's no secret that Dwight and Sherry are some of my favorite characters, so Fear the Walking Dead Season 8 Episode 9 had a major advantage going into it with the knowledge it would be focused on both characters.
While there were some great moments of the pair unpacking their trauma after returning to The Sanctuary, the decision to include Dove as yet another kid who needed saving was both random and a part of the bigger problem with the series as a whole.
Dwight and Sherry's relationship was underpinned by their time at the Sanctuary under Negan's rule, and it's a miracle they managed to come out the other end of it after reuniting on Fear the Walking Dead Season 6.
They had so much to unpack that their latest reunion would have worked far better had it just been them in the Sanctuary.

Seven years have gone by since John Wick franchise director Chad Stahelski signed on to direct a reboot of the 1986 classic Highlander (watch it Here), and the filmmaker has been focused on making John Wick sequels while developing the new Highlander. But now John Wick seems to be taking a little break, so it looks like Stahelski might finally have some time to bring sword-wielding immortals back to the screen. Deadline reports that Lionsgate will be presenting Stahelski’s Highlander project to potential buyers at the upcoming American Film Market, looking for partners that will help them recoup the film’s budget, which is said to be over $100 million.
Two years have passed since Henry Cavill of Man of Steel and The Witcher signed on to star in the film, and Cavill remains attached to the project.

The coming-of-age film American Pie was one of the surprise hit movies of the 1999 film season. Fans quickly became invested in a group of high school friends and their families in the Jason Biggs, Eugene Levy, and Jennifer Coolidge-led big-screen success. Two years later, American Pie 2 revisited the friend group, now college students. However, when the third sequel, American Wedding, was filmed in 2003, many cast favorites were missing. Why was that so?
Why were so many of ‘American Pie’s’ original cast members not a part of ‘American Wedding?’
In 2003, producers of the American Pie film franchise orchestrated the wedding of Jim Levenstein (Jason Biggs) and Michelle Flaherty (Alyson Hannigan) as the centerpiece of American Wedding. It wasn’t that David Zaslav wasn’t cautioned. He was, explicitly, in a December 2022 conversation with CAA’s Bryan Lourd, who said that damaging the relatively small but beloved Turner Classic Movies would lead to backlash from “a lot of important people” — people whom Zaslav most admired and wanted to be admired by, such as Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese and Paul Thomas Anderson.
But while Zaslav repeatedly declared and continues to declare his love for TCM, by the time that conversation took place, the channel had been undergoing months of layoffs and budget reductions that ultimately led top executives to depart on June 20. Among them: Charles Tabesh, the longtime programmer considered by many to be the heart of the network.

Warner Bros. Pictures heads Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy are taking oversight of Turner Classic Movies, an individual with knowledge of the matter confirmed Friday to TheWrap.
The leadership change follows the exit of TCM chief Pola Changnon and layoffs of several other members of the network’s top brass. The departures came amid cuts of 100 staffers across Warner Bros. Discovery’s U.S. Networks Group this week, led by chairman and chief content officer Kathleen Finch.
Following Changnon’s departure on Tuesday, Finch said in a memo to staff that Michael Ouweleen, the president of Adult Swim, Cartoon Network, Discovery Family and Boomerang who had previously run TCM on an interim basis for eight months in 2019 and 2020, would take oversight of the network.

Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav is attempting to calm the waters after stirring up a storm over Turner Classic Movies earlier this week. Zaslav is moving oversight of the channel to Warner Bros. Pictures bosses Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy, sources with knowledge of the situation tell The Hollywood Reporter.
The move is meant to reassure the film community after Wbd announced a restructuring this week that saw TCM chief Pola Changnon exit after 25 years, along with key team members.
The move worried cinephiles and sparked an outcry, culminating with Zaslav having a call with filmmakers Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese and Paul Thomas Anderson. On June 21, the trio released a joint statement, which read in part, “Our primary aim is to ensure that TCM’s programming is untouched and protected. Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, and Paul Thomas Anderson have joined forces to keep Turner Classic Movies from becoming the next “Batgirl.”
After it was revealed that veteran executive and TCM general manager Pola Chagnon was leaving Warner Bros. Discovery ahead of planned layoffs – and that other top TCM leaders were on the way out as well – many fans of the network grew concerned that the beloved channel would cease to exist. “Turner Classic Movies has been a fixture in my life for as long as I can remember. It’s a holy corner of film history — and a living, breathing library for an entire art form. Please don’t fuck with TCM,” Ryan Reynolds wrote on Twitter.
So in an attempt to keep TCM thriving, three of the greatest living directors reached out to Warner Bros. Discovery boss David Zaslav separately and together to urge the company’s CEO to leave well enough alone.

Warner Bros. Discovery has begun implementing layoffs in its domestic cable group, cuts that will affect about 100 employees across legacy Discovery and Turner outlets.
Amid the shuffle, TCM general manager Pola Changnon is leaving the classic movie channel after more than 25 years with TCM and Turner. Michael shares our passion for classic films and believes strongly in TCM’s essential role in preserving and spotlighting iconic movies for the next generation of cinephiles. He has full support across Wbd, and we look...

This article contains spoilers for Fear the Walking Dead season 8 episode 6.
The eighth and final season of Fear the Walking Dead has been pulling out all the stops to drive home the show’s unique place in the franchise – and everything we’ll miss when it’s gone. Since day one, the series has been about families trying to stay together against all odds, and that heart wrenching theme has progressed into a fast-paced, chaotic, and – don’t forget – terrifying mid-season finale with twists and cliffhangers galore.
“All I See is Red” find one of the primary protagonists, The Walking Dead alum Morgan Jones (Lennie James), reeling from the loss of his beloved, Grace (Karen David), as he tries to reunite with his daughter Mo (Zoey Merchant). As the eighth and final season of Fear the Walking Dead reached the halfway point Sunday, viewers were treated (if that’s the word) to callbacks galore, to past characters and mantras and even Madison’s old jacket. And if you forgot anything capital-m Meaningful that anyone had ever said, not to worry — this episode was hell-bent on repeating the series’ “greatest hits.” (At this point, only The Bold and the Beautiful repeats more dialogue!)
Plotwise, much of “All I See Is Red” concerned Morgan’s return to the dangerous state in which Rick found him back in Season 3 of the mothership.

After spending the last three episodes sending the narrative in circles, Fear the Walking Dead Season 8 Episode 6 quite literally turned the show on its head, preparing us for a very different final six episodes.
In recent years, cast departures haven't been as secretive in Twd Universe, and it's shocking that Morgan's arc is wrapped up, seemingly for good, by the end of "All I See is Red."
Morgan has spoken countless times about seeing red after the deaths of his wife and son, and truthfully, I didn't think the showrunners of Fear the Walking Dead could craft a compelling farewell for such an iconic character.
Thankfully, Morgan reached a state of resolution with his past actions and is ready to embrace a new chapter that involves some of his old friends.
This message is for Rick Grimes. It's Morgan Jones. Man, I'm gonna come and look for you, whether you're at Alexandria or not.

Movies and TV shows centered on science fiction always toy with the possibility of humanity evolving or being wiped out by unstoppable forces, ranging from catastrophic weather events to extraterrestrial beings. A recurring theme in sci-fi movies and shows is AI, or artificial intelligence, which often focuses on robotic machines with human-like intelligence and emotive capabilities. While many popular works highlight the downfall of humanity due to AI, others explore a different possibility that allows humans and artificially intelligent beings to coexist.
Though it seems to have only grown in popularity in recent years, artificial intelligence in film and TV has been around for decades. Peacock's recently released sci-fi comedy-drama series "Mrs. Davis" follows a nun named Sister Simone (Betty Gilpin), who embarks on a global journey to destroy an evil AI named Mrs. Davis. Meanwhile, Netflix's "Black Mirror," which is set to premiere its sixth season on June...

London, June 12 (Ians) Former Australia white-ball skipper Aaron Finch believes seamer Scott Boland is a certainty to play the first Ashes Test at the Edgbaston from Friday, citing his superb performance in the recently-concluded World Test Championship Final.
Boland played a key role in Australia bowling out India for 234 on day five at The Oval, taking Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja out in quick succession to set the base for a 209-run victory, as the seamer took five wickets overall in the match. He was selected in the Wtc final playing eleven over Michael Neser with Josh Hazlewood unavailable due to injuries.
With little clarity on Hazlewood’s availability for the Edgbaston Test, Finch thinks Boland is a certainty for the highly-anticipated Ashes opener. “He was outstanding, I think he’s well and truly sewn up that third quick spot in the first Test.”

Warning: The following contains spoilers for Sunday’s Fear the Walking Dead. Proceed at your own peril.
Well, that was just plain mean. In Sunday’s Fear the Walking Dead, the last episode before the AMC drama’s midseason finale, Mo managed to get Grace all the way to the urgent-care train car and, with June calling the shots over walkie-talkie, administer radiation in hopes of keeping Mom from succumbing to her walker bite. Yet she not only croaked, anyway, since Mo found herself unable to put a scalpel through her brain, Grace reanimated, attacked and would’ve chowed down on her own daughter,...

With any series in The Walking Dead universe, we've been taught to expect death at every turn.
But saying goodbye to the best characters doesn't get any easier.
Going into Fear the Walking Dead Season 8 Episode 5, Grace would inevitably succumb to the zombie infection spreading through her body, but Fear the Walking Dead Season 8 has explored the possibility of using radiation to slow down the inevitable.
There was always that glimmer of hope Grace would somehow pull through because she's beaten the odds at every turn, and look at Finch. He's been thriving since Shrike got him bitten.
Grace's final journey was filled with emotion because, regardless of how we feel about the show's quality, she's been one of the best-written characters since her introduction on Fear the Walking Dead Season 5.
Karen David brought Grace to life to perfection, and it's a real shame we won't have Grace or Karen...

Sunday’s episode of Fear the Walking Dead felt like old times — really old times. It gave Morgan visions of late wife Jenny as he sought to put down their son Duane after all these years. (Better very late than never?) Needless to say, what with a whole hour needing to be filled, things did not go smoothly.
Early on in “King County,” Morgan discovered that he couldn’t enter his old house and lay Duane to rest; too painful. Further complicating matters was the arrival on the scene of Grace and Mo, the latter of whom turned out to...

Closure is tricky, and Fear the Walking Dead Season 8 Episode 4 was one of the spinoff's finest hours because it was a natural progression for Morgan.
He's been dealing with loss ever since The Walking Dead Season 1 Episode 1, and this latest chapter found him returning to the home his son died in and his deceased wife returned to every night to try to open the doors.
I've had many complaints about how Morgan's arc has been handled on both The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead; we got nostalgia and some of Lennie James' best work to date as he tried to find a way to put the Walker of his son Duane down.
The series has mishandled many characters and storylines, but there was a level of authenticity here with Morgan's arc.
Being closely tied to the original series, Morgan will always have a special place in fans' hearts,...

London, June 1 (Ians) Former captain Aaron Finch feels that the key to handling talismanic batters Virat Kohli and Steve Smith would be to get them out as early as possible in the upcoming World Test Championship final between India and Australia at The Oval from June 7-11.
Kohli came back into his groove in Test cricket with a fine 186 in the fourth match against Australia at Ahmedabad in March. Smith, on the other hand, has an excellent record at The Oval, scoring 391 runs in three matches at an average of 97.75 with two centuries.
“Both (Kohli and Smith are) batting at number four, so the key is to try and get them as early as possible, early wickets to expose them to the brand new ball will be absolutely key. I will always side with Steve Smith, I think his record is outstanding, but it will be a very good contest,...

That Harrison Ford sure has some stamina for someone in their 81st year.
What’s the secret I ask him?
“You know what the secret is,” he responded.
“Rock ‘n’ roll and the other two things.”
What two other things?
“Sex and drugs and rock ‘n’ roll. That’s the secret but now it’s not a secret,” a bad-boy twinkle in his eye as he spoke.

A lot of TV companies are judged by how quickly they can introduce new shows. Warner Bros. Discovery thinks it may find some gains by developing new ways to introduce audiences to series and content that already exists.
The strategy has been playing out in open view on some of the company’s biggest cable networks. Audiences watching NBA basketball games have been pushed to sample series such as Food Network’s “Tournament of Champions,” HGTV’s “Rock The Block” and Discovery Channel’s “Deadliest Catch.” And some portion decided to follow the programs back to their original homes for more. According to company research, 12% of TNT sports viewers who sampled “Tournament” went on to watch it on Food Network. Likewise, 10% of basketball fans that tried “Rock The Block” followed it to HGTV while 7% of viewers who tested “Deadliest Catch” watched more of it on Discovery.

Cannes is ready to party again with the likes of Johnny Depp, Harrison Ford, Alicia Vikander, Jude Law and Cate Blanchett all set for a Côte d’Azur hoedown. Here’s a (non-exhaustive) look at some of festival festivities on deck at the 76th Cannes Film Festival, which kicks off Tuesday and runs through May 27.
The return of the Carlton Hotel following a whopping $380 million renovation is perhaps symbolic of the reemergence of shindigs at the festival following the pandemic. ”We were closed for 26 months,” sighed the Carlton’s general manager Carlo Stragiotto as he welcomed us in the opulent lobby.
“We have created new spaces and renovated old ones,” Stragiotto proclaimed, then boasted that the hotel has space enough “to host four or five parties at the same time each night, if needed.”

For many of us, high school was a time that we spent overly invested in our own adolescent lives and juvenile misadventures that (at the time) seemed to be the most mature and important thing in the world. And in some cases, the witty antics and perverted scheming of Jim Levinstein and his friends hit the nail right on the head- and especially for those of us who were going through our formative years in the late 90’s and early 2000’s.
And as most movie nerds do, I used to find myself feeling seen and heard by the American Pie movies in that I related to being a suburban teenager whose attention was constantly shifting between dating way out of my league, and the constant desire to make the leap from a hormonal teenager to a grown up with everything under control. Rahane, who made his Test debut against Australia at New Delhi in 2013, had carved a reputation for himself as being one of India’s dependable batters in overseas conditions, as seen from eight of his 12 Test centuries coming outside of home.
However, a dip in form despite making a fantastic century against Australia in the 2020 Boxing Day Test and leading India to an unforgettable 2-1 Border-Gavaskar Trophy triumph, meant Rahane was last seen in the format in January 2022 against South Africa at Cape Town, where he had scores of 9 and 1.
After accumulating 136 runs in six innings as India lost the series 2-1 against Proteas, Rahane was left out of the Test squad for the home series against Sri Lanka.
Injuries to Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant leading to a hole in the Indian middle-order along with his sizzling form in Ipl 2023, played a hand in Rahane’s return to the Test squad after 14 months.

In the second season of Single Drunk Female, creator Simone Finch wanted to expand beyond Sam’s (Sofia Black-d’Elia) journey with physical sobriety and explore what comes next: emotional sobriety. “We wanted to talk more about what happens when you’re sober and you think that you have everything figured out,” she tells The Hollywood Reporter.
The result is something equally as messy for Sam as season one, just in some compelling (and cringey) new ways. And as audiences see, her friends and family are not immune to season two’s mess. As a result, the return of Freeform’s breakout hit — which debuted on April 12 and is airing weekly on the cabler (though the entirety of the season is already available on Hulu) — watches more in its second go like an ensemble show, where more screen time translates to more complication but also more depth.

While Harry Potter and Game of Thrones may have scored the biggest headlines at this morning’s newly rebranded Max launch event, one of the more understated nuggets was the handful of unscripted originals coming to the service.
Kathleen Finch, Chairman and Chief Content Officer, Warner Bros. Discovery’s U.S. Networks Group, revealed four new projects that will premiere on the service – dating series Love and Translation, adventure series Survive The Raft, Barbie Dream House Challenge and Octavia Spencer-exec produced true-crime series Lost Women of Highway 20.
This comes after the previous incarnation, HBO Max, moved out of unscripted originals, having previously made series such as FBoy Island, Legendary and Selena + Chef, under Jen O’Connell’s leadership.
However, these new Max originals are part of a shared universe, that will see these shows also air on Discovery+, which is remaining as a standalone service, as well as linear channels,...

Warner Bros. Discovery disappointed the children’s TV industry last year when it pulled a number of shows from HBO Max, signaling an exit from this part of the business.
However, now, with the launch of the rebranded Max service, the company behind the Looney Tunes and Hanna-Barbera libraries is returning strong to the sector and admitting that it was ostensibly technical difficulties that caused some of its problems for younger folk.

“We sit on the best library of IP for kids content [compared] to anyone so we’re not only going to reboot a lot of what we already have in our library but we’re also going to make new [shows],” said Kathleen Finch, Chairman and Chief Content Officer, Warner Bros. Discovery’s U.S. Networks Group

Warner Bros. Discovery finally revealed the plans (and confirmed the long-rumored name) for its new streaming service, Max, which will combine offerings from HBO Max and Discovery+ into one product, during a splashy press presentation on the Warner Bros. Studio lot Wednesday.
The event kicked off at 10 a.m. at the iconic Burbank location, presided over by Wbd CEO David Zaslav, president and CEO of global streaming and games Jb Perrette, HBO and Max CEO and chairman Casey Bloys (who now also has oversight of Chip and Joanna Gaines’ Magnolia Network), and U.S. networks group chairman and chief content officer Kathleen Finch.
“Max is the one to watch,” Zaslav said Wednesday, revealing the name and slogan of the merged streamer at the top of the event.

One of last year's best shows returns this week — and it's possible you've never even heard of it.
Single Drunk Female, a Freeform comedy from Simone Finch, debuted to critical acclaim in January 2022, but it struggled to break into the cultural conversation over the course of its first season. Still, strong premiere ratings and next-day streaming earned the show a second season, and Finch hasn't wasted a minute of the opportunity. Single Drunk Female Season 2 (which premieres April 12 on Freeform and drops all at once on Hulu the following day) is an absolute triumph: The 10-episode season continues to find specific moments of humor in Sam's (Sofia Black-d'Elia) journey towards sobriety, all while expanding its scope to deepen the inner lives of the supporting characters in her orbit.
