Berlin, May 22 (Ians) A sense of optimism appears to offer some solace to Thomas Tuchel as dark clouds gather over Bayern Munich. “Next season we will do better,” the 49-year-old coach asserted, hinting at a glimmer of hope amid the turmoil currently gripping the club.
Tuchel casts himself as a soothsayer, forecasting sunnier days ahead while the Bavarians currently weather a relentless storm, with no immediate reprieve in sight. Painting a hopeful picture seems to be his chosen method to avoid confronting the sensitive decisions that 2023 will inevitably demand, reports Xinhua.
Leadership Issues
Amid speculation over the futures of club leaders like Chairman Oliver Kahn and Sporting Director Hasan Salihamidzic, the disheartening defeat to Leipzig underscored the team’s apparent leadership deficit. The squad’s unraveling on home turf after just 30 minutes was not the first instance of Bayern squandering a seemingly secure game this season.

Berlin, April 3 (Ians) There was only a small amount of celebration when the new coach of Bayern Munich, Thomas Tuchel, talked about his first game with the team.
The mission to regain the league lead might have been accomplished by beating Borussia Dortmund 4-2, but the victory seemed overshadowed by repeating turmoil due to the noisy dismissal of Tuchel’s predecessor Julian Nagelsmann, reports Xinhua.
Former Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea coach Tuchel admitted he had rarely been as nervous as he was during his debut with the Bavarian club. The 49-year-old praised the determination and will of his new squad but spoke of “a lot of potential we have to reveal.”
Tuchel’s perfect start was somewhat clouded by growing tensions between Bayern’s leaders, the agents for sacked Nagelsmann, and Bayern icon Lothar Matthaeus.

Berlin, March 24 (Ians) The reported dismissal of Julian Nagelsmann as coach of Bayern Munich might have come as a surprise on Friday.
Former Chelsea and Dortmund coach Thomas Tuchel will be the successor, and an official confirmation is expected to come after Tuchel’s signing later. The timing though gives proof of the club’s unrest and impatience when it comes to in-house difficulties.
To win titles has been an obsession-like must over decades for the Bavarians with the successful leaders Uli Hoeness and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge in charge.
The duo’s success might have increased the pressure on their followers, chairman Oliver Kahn and sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic, a Xinhua report said.
Despite having beaten French giant Paris St German in the last 16 of the Champions League, the loss of the national league lead triggered serious concerns over a title-less disaster in the 2022/23 season.
Two years ago, Nagelsmann was seen as the rising coaching star.

Madrid, Sep 12 (Ians) Fc Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski faces a rapid return to his former club Bayern Munich in a key Champions League tie on Tuesday night.
Lewandowski scored a hat-trick in his Champions League debut for Barca at home to Viktoria Plzen last week, but Bayern will be much tougher opponents as they look to continue their recent positive results against Barca.
The 8-2 defeat that Bayern inflicted on Barca in August 2020 was traumatic for the Catalan club, as were two 3-0 losses in the group stage last season, which went away to ensuring that Barca failed to qualify for the knockout stage of the competition.
After a summer of big spending, it’s vital for Barca to make it out of the group this time, and a win in Munich would be a huge step towards assuring that.

Dortmund (Germany), Aug 18 (Ians) German football league (Dfl) advisory board chairman Hans-Joachim Watzke said on Wednesday there would be no changes to the Bundesliga’s format “in the near future.”
Watzke is also chief executive of Borussia Dortmund and has had to watch as Bayern Munich have won the Bundesliga title for 10 seasons in a row.
Fans have moaned about a lack of competitiveness and the idea of introducing end-of-season play-offs has been mooted, with even Dfl chief executive Donata Hopfen saying it could be considered, reports Xinhua.
But despite the possible benefits to Dortmund, the last side to win the German title other than Bayern, Watzke said play-offs were not on any future agenda following a meeting of the Dfl’s general assembly on Wednesday.
“I don’t think there’s anything to be said for going overboard,” he remarked. “There’s already a relatively strong case to be...

Berlin, Aug 15 (Ians) Bayern youngster Jamal Musiala makes German football fans forget about the departure of Robert Lewandowski and Erling Haaland.

The Stuttgart-born player outpaced German football icons such as Uli Hoeness, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, and Gerd Muller at an age of 19 years and 169 days.
Only Englishmen Jadon Sancho in the shirt of Borussia Dortmund reached the mark 24 days earlier.
With Lewandowski heading for Barca and Haaland leaving for Manchester City, the Bayern rookie is sending fans, pundits, and media into rapture, reports Xinhua.
Main evening news, newspapers, TV sports programmes, and social media channels seem flooded with pictures of his latest goal in the league encounter against Wolfsburg.

Bayern Munich are set to sign Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal subject to a medical, according to Sky Sports.
The fee for the Chilean’s services is believed to be around £26 million with an additional £2 million offered in add-ons.
The player is expected to join up with the German Champions within the next week.
Vidal made 40 appearances for the Scudetto champions last season and scored 11 goals as well as helping his side to their first Champions League final since 2003.
The 28-year-old learned his trade in Germany where he made 117 appearances for Bayer Leverkusen and mainly played as a defensive midfielder. This season Vidal has developed his attacking ability and was often used by Massimiliano Allegri in a more advanced role sitting just behind the strikers.
Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge announced the deal speaking at Bayern’s pre-season tour press conference in Guangzhou:

After strong rumours on Friday night that Bastian Schweinsteiger was on the verge of a move to Manchester United to reunite with former Bayern Munich boss Louis Van Gaal, his current club have publicly confirmed that an agreement has been reached between the two clubs.
Bild had reported on Friday night that a deal amounting to €20 million was on the table, and Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has now confirmed that the deal is heading towards completion.
That follows swiftly on from Bayern’s new signing Joshua Kimmich letting the cat out of the bag during his press conference when he said he was “disappointed Bastian will leave us this summer.”
Rummenigge admitted that the club’s hand was effectively forced when the German asked to be allowed to take on another challenge before the end of his career.

World Cup winner Philipp Lahm has announced his retirement from international football, according to the BBC. The fullback won the competition with Germany at this summer’s finals in Brazil and believes now is the right time to step down from the national side.
The defender began his international career in the U-17 team in 1999 and also represented his country at U-18, U-19, U-20 and U-21 levels, and was part of the squad that won silver for Germany at the U-19 European championships in 2002. His first game in the senior side came against Croatia in February 2004 but ended in a 2-1 defeat. His last appearance was against Argentina on July 13, with Germany winning the World Cup thanks to a 1-0 win. Lahm said in an open letter on the Dfb website:

Bayern Munich midfielder Toni Kroos has ruled out a summer transfer to Premier League champions Manchester United, according to the BBC.
Kroos was at Old Trafford on Tuesday night as Bayern were held to a 1-1 draw in the first leg of the Champions League quarter finals, and admits he was “impressed” by the stadium.
But the 24-year-old has handed a set-back to fans hoping of seeing him trot out at the Theatre of Dreams on a weekly basis, saying: ”It is a beautiful stadium, but I belong to Bayern Munich”.
Kroos is out of contract at the Allianz Arena in the summer of 2015, and has so far refused to sign an extension, leading to reports that United are interested.
But these words will come as a disappointment to Red Devils manager David Moyes, who is in desperate need of reinforcements this summer after a disappointing debut season in charge.

Manchester United are monitoring Mario Mandzukic’s situation at Bayern Munich amid claims he could be about to lose his place in the European champion’s starting XI, according to the Express.
Bayern have confirmed that Robert Lewandowski will join from domestic rivals Borussia Dortmund at the end of the season, raising questions over Mandzukic’s long-term future at the Allianz Arena.
And the striker’s situation is being monitored by David Moyes, who was keen on the Munich man during his days with Everton.
The 27-year-old attacker has also been linked with Arsenal in recent months, although Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge claims the player is not for sale.
“We’re very happy with Mario,” said Rummenigge.
“He made a major contribution to us winning so many titles last year. I just have to think back to the goal in London.

Liverpool may end up missing out on Bayern Munich left-back Diego Contento if Luiz Gustavo also leaves the Bundesliga champions, according to the Express.
Defensive midfielder Gustavo is wanted by Arsenal this summer while Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is also eyeing up Contento to provide competition for Jose Enrique – but Bayern will only allow one of the players to leave.
Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge is prepared to sanction the departure of either Gustavo or Contento – but not both.
Rummenigge said: “We will only let one player leave.”
Earlier today it emerged that Arsenal have tabled a £17.2 million offer for Gustavo, which, if accepted, would mean the Gunner’s clashing with Liverpool once more this summer.
The two Premier League clubs are already at loggerheads over the Luis Suarez affair with Arsenal failing with two bids for the Uruguayan.

Cologne, Germany – The German soccer league, the Dfl, has moved to defend its 3 billion euros ($4.7 billion) marketing deal with mogul Leo Kirch, attacking a decision by media watchdogs that the agreement violates German competition law.
The Dfl on Friday said it would take legal action against Germany's cartel office if it goes ahead with its threat to torpedo the Kirch deal.
The cartel office said it would block any agreement that does not provide German free-tv channels with same-day game highlights for primetime soccer shows. That would undercut the financial basis of the Dfl-Kirch deal.
"The hurdles for German soccer keep getting higher," said Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Dfl board member and CEO of top local club Bayern Munich. "It's becoming harder and harder to stay internationally competitive."...
