In Ryan Coogler's 2022 sci-fi war epic "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever," a pair of fantastical, magical kingdoms go to war over a rare element called vibranium. Vibranium is a magical, energy-producing metal that allows both kingdoms to build amazing machines, and shield their existence from the human world. On one side, there is the titular Wakanda, an African nation that is home to the superhero Black Panther (Letitia Wright). On the other side is Talokan, a Mesoamerican realm deep beneath the Atlantic Ocean, overseen by the amphibious Namor (Tenoch Huerta). Like many films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the plot is unnecessarily complicated, but the visuals are first-rate, and the Afrofuturist aesthetic is amazing.
The inclusion of Namor was something of a coup for the MCU, as Namor the Sub-Mariner was famously one of the very first Marvel superheroes, having appeared in Marvel Comics #1 back in 1939. Namor was created by Bill Everett.

"Daredevil" issue #1 was published in 1964, credited to Stan Lee and Bill Everett. However, for many, "Daredevil" didn't truly begin until Frank Miller took over the book in 1980. His run is where the Kingpin became Daredevil's nemesis and where Elektra was introduced. These are such foundational characters to subsequent "Daredevil" comics/adaptations that the first two decades without them feel like an anomaly.
Influenced by noir movies, Miller brought the grit to Hell's Kitchen. His narration captions were straight out of a detective dime novel. His art broke from the Bronze Age Marvel Comics house style with darker shading (inked mostly by Klaus Janson), hatch marks, and blood-splattered violence, further adding to the dark atmosphere of the writing.
Miller's run also began the edict "Matt Murdock must suffer." His love story with Elektra is a tragedy, and in Miller's ending arc "Born Again," Matt loses everything. Not coincidentally, Miller was the...

The Guardians of the Galaxy are heading to the big screen one last time for Vol. 3. While it appears that the third instalment will mark the end of this current iteration of the team in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there is every possibility that the roster of heroes will evolve and change for a new era. The value of the Guardians, from the perspective of the Marvel brand and within the MCU itself, is just too big to move away from.
The comics have seen a vast range of heroes join the Guardians, many of which have not been featured in the MCU, or have not been affiliated with the team on screen. As Marvel looks to its next eras and continues to map out what might happen with the squad, these characters are fantastic figures to draw inspiration from. "Daredevil: Born Again" is one of the most anticipated Marvel Studios projects. After guest appearances in "Spider-Man: No Way Home" and "She-Hulk," Charlie Cox is returning to Ol' Hornhead full-time — and it's not just him. Jon Bernthal will be returning as Frank Castle/The Punisher, reprising his role from both Netflix's "Daredevil" and its "Punisher" spin-off. It's unclear if Frank will be a friend or foe to Matt Murdock this time around.
Daredevil and Punisher is a long-standing rivalry; while Matt stands on the edge of a cliff, Frank has fallen far off it. Writers who've pitted the two against each other include Frank Miller, Garth Ennis (whose "Punisher" run was the basis for "Daredevil" season 2 episode "New York's Finest"), and most recently, Chip Zdarsky.
Zdarsky is the author of the ongoing run on "Daredevil," where his writing is complemented by Marco Checchetto's gorgeous art; his penciling uses...

Ben Affleck only regrets one movie: Daredevil. That’s what the actor once told Playboy about the 2003 superhero misstep. “It just kills me,” said Affleck. “I love that story, that character, and the fact that it got f***ed up the way it did stays with me.” Released on 14 February 2003, Daredevil was an attempt at a darker, grittier superhero film – gritty in a pre-Nolan sort of way, at least. It tells the story of blind lawyer Matt Murdock, who avenges his murdered father (that old chestnut) by cleaning up the grubby streets of Hell’s Kitchen. Blinded as a child by toxic goop, Murdock has enhanced senses as an adultre, which manifest as a kind of super-powered radar. Twenty years on from its release, Daredevil looks like a proto-franchise player – an attempt to get a Marvel movie series off the ground before filmmakers had quite figured out the formula.

Charlie Cox has teased his forthcoming Daredevil reboot coming to Disney Plus in 2024.
The British actor starred as the crime-fighting superhero in Netflix’s original three-season series, based on the comics created by Stan Lee and Bill Everett, before it came to an end in 2018.
It was announced earlier this year that Cox would be reprising his role as Marvel’s attorney Matt Murdock by day, turned vigilante Daredevil by night in Daredevil: Born Again, a spinoff series from writers and co-producers Matt Corman and Chris Ord.
In a new interview with NME, Cox spoke about his role as Murdock/Daredevil, suggesting “this character works better when he’s geared towards a slightly more mature audience”.
“My instinct is that on Disney Plus, it will be dark, but it probably won’t be as gory,” he added.

Just days after its much-anticipated debut, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is poised to continue Marvel Studios’ box-office dominance. But the new movie might also signal a major evolutionary shift in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s geopolitical world-building.
An inescapable aura of grief distinguishes director Ryan Coogler’s latest work from other MCU movies. The tragic absence of Chadwick Boseman — who passed away two years ago after a long battle with cancer — informs the execution of Wakanda Forever, and the stages of denial, sadness, and memorialization all come to life in...

One of my favorite two-dimensional crushes has finally entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe in all his live-action glory! Played by Tenoch Huerta Mejía, Namor the Sub-Mariner is the main antagonist of "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever," though you won't hear me call him a villain. Similarly to Erik Killmonger, who was the Big Bad in "Black Panther," Namor may be at odds with our heroes, but that doesn't necessarily make him a villain. Much like his comic counterpart, the Sub-Mariner is a very complex character.
Co-writer (with Joe Robert Cole) and director Ryan Coogler called dibs on bringing Namor to life quite a while ago and completely reimagined him for the MCU. While so many aspects of the Sub-Mariner have changed going from page to screen, his motivations of protecting the seas and his people have been kept intact. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has always reinvented characters and changed them from their portrayal in the comics. From Bucky being Steve Rogers' best friend from childhood, to turning Vulture into an underdog, to erasing Drax's human past, to turning Mysterio into a disgruntled employee. The franchise always takes the essence of these classic characters and updates them to fit the version of the world told in the movies and the medium of film. Sometimes the movie versions of the characters even make their way to the comics, like how Nick Fury became much closer to Samuel L. Jackson's portrayal from the films.
Now, having already changed both Killmonger and M'Baku in the first film, "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" becomes the latest MCU film to drastically change an iconic comic book character, and for the better. Following the death of T'Challa, the film focuses on the consequences of Wakanda revealing itself to the world,...

The new "Daredevil" live-action TV series "Daredevil: Born Again" starts shooting February 2023 in New York City, not as a continuation of the Netflix TV series , but as a fresh 'reboot' according to actor Charlie Cox, who reprises his role as blind vigilante crime-fighter 'Matt Murdock':

Take a look at more footage from Marvel Studios "Black Panther" sequel "Wakanda Forever", showcasing the first live-action take of Marvel Comics "Namor the Sub-Mariner" (Tenoch Huerta):
Debuting in 1939, predating DC's "Aquaman" (1941)...
...'The Sub-Mariner''was created by writer, illustrator Bill Everett...
...depicted as the mutant son of a human sea captain and a seductive princess on a spy mission for her undersea kingdom of 'Atlantis'.
Namor possessed the super-strength and aquatic breathing abilities of his mother's 'Homo Mermanus' race... ...as well as tiny flipper-like wings on his ankles that enabled him to fly.
The character has been portrayed either as a good-natured, short-fused superhero... ....or a hostile invader wildly obsessed with vengeance against all humans.
After fighting WWII with the Allies, 'Captain America' and the 'Human Torch', Namor resurfaced in the 1950's as the subject of a live-action TV series starring Richard Egan... ...plus a 1970's TV pilot...

This post contains spoilers for She-Hulk Attorney at Law Episode 7
When it comes to comic book adaptations, the devil is in the details. So when Netflix debuted a live-action version of Daredevil in 2015, fans were thrilled to see a hard-edged take on the street-level hero. Between that show’s shocking violence and Charlie Cox’s soulful performance as the charming, but conflicted Matt Murdock, Daredevil’s 2003 big-screen misfire was all but forgotten. However, concerns bubbled up again in the long runup between Cox’s cameo as Murdock in Spider-Man: No Way Home and his in-costume return in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. Many wondered how the more family-friendly MCU would handle the action, and how the universe’s self-deprecating humor would play with such a brooding character.
Turns out, it worked pretty good! She-Hulk episode seven “Ribbit and Rip It” proved to be a highlight of the series, even winning over...

This post contains potential spoilers for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
While the MCU tends to be far more faithful to the comics than many other live-action adaptations of superhero properties, they are still adaptations. Some deviation from the comics should be expected. For example, the James “Bucky” Barnes of Captain America comics was a plucky teen who donned a domino mask and a machine gun to fight Nazis in World War II, not the handsome contemporary to Steve Rogers seen in the films. The new "Daredevil" live-action TV series "Daredevil: Born Again" is not a continuation of the Netflix TV series , but a 'reboot' according to actor Charlie Cox, who reprises his role as the blind vigilante crime-fighter 'Matt Murdock':
"It is a Season 1, it is not Season 4, so it is a whole new thing," Cox said. "Which I think is the way to go. If you are going to do it again, do it differently...right now I'm just buzzing that it's kind of happening again, it's starting up again.
"And I don't know where it's going, I don't know how much involvement I'm going to have, I don't know what it's leading to, but it feels like we're born again.
"And so I feel like I'm getting a second chance at the dream job I refer to as...'the gift that keeps on giving.'"

When the "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" trailer debuted at San Diego Comic Con this year, it was to a worldwide outpouring of love and emotion. The trailer paid sincere homage to the late actor Chadwick Boseman, and introduced a storyline that looks like it will live up to fans' expectations for the long-anticipated sequel to one of Marvel's best films.
But the "Wakanda Forever" trailer also featured something else that instantly grabbed fans' attention -- or rather, someone else: Namor, a fan-favorite antihero known as much for his perpetual shirtlessness as for his superpowers. Tenoch Huerta ("Narcos: Mexico") will play the half-Atlantean character in the new film, and though he's always been an aquatic being in Marvel Comics, the actor recently revealed to Life and Style that he wasn't exactly an ace swimmer before being cast in the part.

Marvel Studios upcoming "Black Panther" movie sequel "Wakanda Forever", opening November 11, 2022, introduces the first live-action film take of Marvel Comics "Namor the Sub-Mariner", who could make DC's "Aquaman" look like 'Charlie The Tuna':
After fighting WWII with the Allies, 'Captain America' and the 'Human Torch', Namor resurfaced in the 1950's as the subject of a live-action TV series starring Richard Egan.

When bringing any superhero into live-action, there's always the question of how much inspiration movies or TV will draw from the costumes in the comics. While purists often struggle with major alterations to a hero's look, the truth is not everything translates well from page to screen. Daredevil is no exception to this. The typically red-clad hero actually debuted in a yellow costume in 1964, created by Bill Everett and Stan Lee. It only took six more issues until Matt Murdoch donned the red suit that would become synonymous with his name. "Daredevil: Yellow," the excellent 2001 miniseries from the late Tim Sale and...

"...growing up in the gritty crime-ridden neighborhood Hell's Kitchen in New York City, 'Matt Murdock' is blinded by a radioactive substance that falls from an out-of-control truck after he pushes a man out of the path of the oncoming vehicle. While he can no longer see, his exposure to the radioactive material heightens his remaining senses beyond normal human ability, and gives him a 'radar sense'. Now that Disney has regained screen rights to Marvel superheroes "X-Men", "Fantastic Four", "Wolverine" and "Deadpool" from 21st Century Fox, next on the list is recovering rights to Marvel Comics' "Namor: The Sub-Mariner" from Universal, paving the way for a big budget undersea adventure that could make DC's "Aquaman" look like 'Charlie The Tuna':
Plans fell through for a live action "Namor" TV series in the 1950's, starring Richard Egan, plus there was interest in a 1970's TV pilot that was scrubbed because of a similarity to the NBC series "Man from Atlantis" (1977), starring Patrick Duffy, that Marvel Comics licensed for publishing.
To date, Universal still controls screen rights to the "Hulk" and will only allow Marvel Studios to feature the character as part of an ensemble, rather than as the main character in a stand-alone film or TV series.
"I can't speak for the studios," said Marvel's Joe Quesada...

According to reports, Marvel Studios upcoming "Black Panther" sequel "Wakanda Forever", will introduce the first live-action film take of Marvel Comics 'Atlantean' king, "Namor the Sub-Mariner", who makes DC's "Aquaman" look like 'Charlie The Tuna':
After fighting WWII with the Allies, 'Captain America' and the 'Human Torch', Namor resurfaced in the 1950's as the subject of a live-action TV series starring Richard Egan.

Marvel Studios celebrated Simu Liu’s birthday by giving us all a present: the first trailer for Shang Chi and the Ten Rings. And there’s a lot to get excited about: a ripped Liu kicking several things; some of the best looking fight shots in the MCU to date; Awkwafina being generally delightful.
Watch it here if you haven’t already…
But buried in the middle of the trailer was a very quick flash of something fascinating:
Was that an Iron Fist?
Iron Fist and the MCU
Up until now, the first character who jumps to mind when you think “Marvel martial artists” is likely Danny Rand, the Iron Fist. Rand was part of Marvel’s wave of characters capitalizing on mid-70s pop culture. He was created by Roy Thomas, Gil Kane, and Bill Everett, and he had some staying power: he was spun out of Marvel Premiere...

It’s been a difficult few months for the comics industry, as Covid-19 has virtually brought distribution to a halt, and put many stores at risk of permanent closure. With the main distributor Diamond unable to supply comics, it’s been a stressful time for fans and those running businesses, regardless of size. However, Marvel Comics have now announced that they’re planning to start releasing new issues from Wednesday, May 27th, in what should hopefully be a resumption of some kind of normalcy to the industry.
While it doesn’t seem like Marvel will jump straight back into shipping out its full schedule for distribution, there will be at least some individual titles and trades from the end of May. And here are the books that Marvel are currently aiming to put out on the 27th:
Amazing Spider-man #43 (FEB200924)
Avengers #33 (FEB200982)
Marauders #10 (FEB200894)
