The first new music from Kendrick Lamar since 2022 has arrived in the form of a score for a new short film titled The Button, celebrating the Chanel Spring-Summer 2024 Haute Couture show next week.
At “the invitation of” Chanel’s creative director, Virginie Viard, The Button is a collaborative project between the brand and Lamar’s media company with Dave Free, pgLang. The three-minute, black-and-white short film was written by Free, and stars Margaret Qualley, Anna Mouglalis, and supermodel Naomi Campbell.
Following the arc of The Button’s plot, Lamar’s score — itself possibly a snippet of an unreleased song — is built around a driving beat, and features a subdued verse from the rapper, as well as a brief vocal hook. Check it out below.
pgLang first hinted at a collaboration with Chanel in the summer of 2023, and Lamar was seen donning Chanel at last year’s Paris Couture Week. Now,...

Exclusive: Skye Townsend (Black Lady Sketch Show) has joined the cast of the CBS comedy The Neighborhood for Season 6 in a recurring role. The show returns with new episodes on February 12.
Townsend’s character Courtney is loosely based on Sarah Francis Jones, girlfriend of The Neighborhood star Marcel Spears, and her real-life experience going into labor at a Beyoncé Renaissance concert.
Courtney is described as very smart—she entered MIT at 16 and worked at Jpl before 21— very cool, very outgoing and with a great sense of humor. She worked with Marty (Spears) at Jpl and he’s recently hired her as an electrical engineer at The Fuse Box. A few months back, they hooked up and now Courtney is pregnant. She’s very upfront about the fact that she likes Marty, but she won’t marry him.
Additionally, Kevin Pollak will also return in Season 6 as Dave Johnson’s (Max Greenfield) father.

Beyoncé knows what her fans have gone through to make it to her Renaissance World Tour.
As she says in Renaissance: A Film By Beyoncé, she herself has been changed by seeing her idols perform live.
That’s why she put all her energy into the creative direction of her show. Those efforts are on full display in the concert film, which is just as much a behind-the-scenes documentary and rare interview with Beyoncé as it is a treat to the best seat in the house for the nearly 3-hour performance.
In fact, the film opens with a tribute to the Beyhive, as they prepare to enter the stadium for the spectacle. As they dance outside and rush to their seats, Beyoncé is backstage preparing to step up to the mic. When she does, she beautifully belts “Dangerously in Love” to open the show.
Seeing Beyoncé perform live might be akin to a religious experience.

When Tyler, the Creator made a brief cameo in the music video for Kendrick Lamar and Baby Keem’s latest collaboration, “The Hillbillies,” it felt like a tease of something to come. Leading up to the Grammy nominations on Nov. 10, Rolling Stone is breaking down 16 different categories. For each, we’re predicting the nominees, as well as who will (and who should) win on Grammy night.
Prestige carries weight in the Best Rap Song category. In the 20 times this particular Grammy’s been given out since 2004, 16 of those wins have gone to just three big-name artists: Kanye West (7 wins), Jay-Z (5), and Kendrick Lamar (4), with Drake winning two times. This year, Kendrick Lamar, Travis Scott, and J. Cole have big reputations on their side.

Much ado has been made about Doja Cat’s fourth studio album, Scarlet, being an intentional swerve away from pop and toward purer hip-hop. Part of what distinguishes Doja’s flow is her ability to weave fluently between not just singing and rapping, but various subgenres, and while the album certainly places a premium on her rapped verses, it also cycles through a number of stylistic approaches. If there’s a notable difference between Scarlet and Doja’s past releases, then, it’s that the songwriting feels aimless, almost incoherent.
Scarlet unfolds with Doja trying out one stylistic mode for two to three songs and then moving on to the next. The infectious opener “Paint the Town Red” is arguably the album’s most pop-forward moment and functions as something of a bridge between Scarlet and 2021’s Planet Her. And “Demons” and “Wet Vagina” sport menacing beats that support Doja...

Twoja Twarz Brzmi Znajomo, the Polish iteration of the international reality competition Your Face Sounds Familiar, will undergo an internal investigation following the use of blackface in a recent episode.
Banjiay Group, the French parent company of Endemol Shine Poland — the impersonation series’ local producer — condemned the appearance of the historically racist practice originating in the U.S. of darkening one’s skin on the show, alongside the use of the N-word in one contestant’s performance.
“Banijay condemns Endemol Shine Poland’s local execution of Your Face Sounds Familiar, which contradicts our group’s global values,” a spokesperson shared in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. “A subsequent internal investigation is underway and the appropriate measures will be taken.”
The show, which originated in Spain in 2011, sees contestants impersonating various musicians via musical performances. In a recent episode, two performers — singer Kuba Szmajkowski and actress Pola Gonciarza — appeared as Kendrick Lamar and Beyoncé Knowles-Carter,...

In my opinion, the most interesting categories at the VMAs are not the most publicized ones like Video of the Year and Artist of the Year. Instead, they are the professional categories, voted on not by fans but by music insiders. Indeed, this is where quality generally prevails over popularity. So let’s consider who the winners in these categories will be.
Best Visual Effects
The nominee that might stand out the most in this category is Melanie Martinez’s “Void,” just based on the volume of effects used for worldbuilding. However, last year multiple similar videos lost to Lil Nas X and Jack Harlow’s “Industry Baby,” which used its effects in a more supporting role. So I’ll go with Taylor Swift’s “Anti-Hero” here; it’s subtle, but it’s also using visual effects in an interesting way. Plus, since the effects serve the story, voters might appreciate it more.

Blackface performances by white people on a popular Polish TV talent show have caused uproar on social media.
On Sept. 9, Polish star Kuba Szmajkowski won episode two of the current season of “Twoja Twarz Brzmi Znajomo,” the Polish version of “Your Face Sounds Familiar,” for performing Lamar’s track “Humble” from Grammy-winning album “Damn” (2017) in Blackface. During his performance he also used the N-word. On the same episode, actor Pola Gonciarz darkened her skin and performed Beyoncé’s “If I Were a Boy.”
The two Blackface performances have stirred outrage on social media. One of the comments on Szmajkowski’s performance was: “Oh no Kuba, this isn’t okay. Producers of this show, what were you thinking? Kuba is an amazing talent who could have had a massive career internationally. But now this performance is out there.”

There's a certain allure surrounding episodes set almost exclusively in one location, thus bringing together all the characters.
Maybe it is the anticipation of all the drama, and one expects it to be juicy.
It was the case in The Chi Season 6 Episode 3 when Emmett and Keisha invited everyone and their friends to the housewarming party, and a lot went down.
We will do a deep dive into it all, so if you're yet to get caught up on the episode, beware of spoilers.
Otherwise, let's get started.
The hour was Keisha and Emmett-centric, and their relationship has always been interesting to watch with all the nuances it entails.
They had grown up together, and each knew the other person inside out, but just like everyone else, they had grown. They were not the carefree kids we met six years ago.

Donald Trump has arrived at the Washington, D.C., courthouse where he will be arrested and arraigned today on charges related to a plot to overturn the 2020 presidential election results. See some images from the scene below.
The atmosphere outside has the feel of Hollywood Boulevard: vendors selling T-shirts, a Trump impersonator hoping to strike gold and competing speakers with amplifiers claiming that the former president either deserves to be in jail or that he really won the election over Joe Biden.
The crowd outside thinned a bit once the arraignment started, and someone cranked their music up to play Kool and the Gang’s “Celebration.”
There still were occasional arguments between Trump supporters and opponents. It was difficult to discern if one exchange — in which two speakers battled over January 6, Covid and Elon Musk — was real or merely performance art.

Tyler, the Creator makes a cameo in the montage, displaying a ‘Camp Flog Gnaw 2023′ button on a jacket in front of Los Angeles’ Dodger Stadium – confirming the carnival’s long-awaited return, reports ‘Variety’.
‘The Hillbillies’ samples Bon Iver’s ‘Pdlif’ and is the latest joint effort from cousins Lamar and Keem, who previously worked together on tracks such as ‘N95’, ‘Die Hard’, ‘Range Brothers’, ‘Savior’, ‘Nile’, and the Grammy award-winning ‘Family Ties’, among others.
According to Keem’s tweet announcing the collaboration, the single also makes reference to Drake’s ‘Sticky’ off his 2022 album ‘Honestly, Nevermind’.

When Kendrick Lamar and Dave Free’s multidisciplinary entertainment company pgLang was first announced in 2020, it was light on the details — both on what the company was meant to be about and how it would change Lamar’s career. The Pulitzer Prize-winning rapper had brought his energetic cousin Baby Keem with him, but pgLang could have been Kendrick making Tde 2.0, starting his own label, or it might have simply been his new toy. Kendrick Lamar has been many things — Black culture firebreather, divisively transgressive rapper, proletariat superstar — but usually, everything...

It’s been just over a year since Kendrick Lamar and his cousin Baby Keem last joined each other on a track. Their Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers deep cut “Savior” was a weighted examination of idol worship, but their latest single, “The Hillbillies,” is the product of both rappers being in a silly, goofy mood, as evidenced in its accompanying Neal Farmer-directed video.

Beyoncé is an expert at keeping her fans guessing, and she does just that with her song "America Has a Problem" off her album "Renaissance." The star has embedded political messaging into her music many times before, but on "America Has a Problem," Beyoncé instead uses a politically charged title to tell a different story.
The song's title "America Has a Problem" is likely a reference to the 1990 track "America Has a Problem (Cocaine)" by Kilo Ali. That song tells the story of a cocaine addict-turned-dealer, and critiques the pipeline that leads people to lose their lives to drugs. In Beyoncé's song, though, she uses drugs as a metaphor for the effects she has on a lover. "Your ex-dealer dope, but it ain't crack enough / I'm supplyin' my man / I'm in demand soon as I land," she sings, comparing herself to a drug her lover just can't get enough of.

Kendrick Lamar and Beyoncé reunite for the first time in seven years on the surprise new remix for Renaissance’s “America Has a Problem,” which arrived with no warning late Friday.
In his first new verse in over a year, Lamar bounces from horoscopes and sudoku to CGI and AI (“Even AI gotta practice clonin’ Kendrick,” he boasts of his inimitable skills).
“Say B, yes, America got a problem / Geeked up, choosin’ love, or they chose violence,” Lamar raps in his opening verse. ““I’m an honorary Beyhive / Let’s...

Los Angeles, May 20 (Ians) Singer Beyonce surprise dropped a remix of her ‘Renaissance’ hit ‘America Has a Problem’ featuring Kendrick Lamar on Friday night.
The new version of the song launches right into a tight verse from Lamar, in which he raps about everything from AI (“Even AI gotta practice clonin’ Kendrick”) to the Beyhive, reports Variety.
Beyonce then picks up for the rest of the song, which clocks in at four minutes and 20 seconds. The remix’s cover art features an American flag made up of what appears to be red, white and blue bullets.
‘America Has a Problem’ has been surging in popularity recently, thanks in part to the choreography that Beyonce debuted when her ‘Renaissance’ world tour kicked off in Stockholm, Sweden on May 10, which has inspired a TikTok trend.
Beyonce’s tour – her first in nearly five years – is set to continue through September, hitting both Europe and North America.

Beyoncé has teamed up with Kendrick Lamar for a surprise new version of her song “America Has a Problem.” The track originally appeared on Queen Bey’s latest album, Renaissance.
Kendrick opens the new version of “America Has a Problem” with a verse in which he scoffs at the AI simulations that have besieged the music industry as of late. “Even AI gotta practice copyin’ Kendrick/ The double entendre, the encore remnants/ I bop like tin men, the opps need ten men.”
This marks the second time Beyoncé and Lamar have collaborated on music. They previously linked up on “Freedom” from Beyoncé’s 2016 album Lemonade, and delivered a thrilling live performance of the song at the 2016 BET Awards. Consequence subsequently named “Freedom” the Top Song of 2016.
Beyoncé recently kicked off her “Renaissance World Tour” with a run of arena shows in Europe. Come July, she’ll play a series of North American stadium shows.

Few records in the last 10 years have been as critically acclaimed as Kacey Musgraves’s fourth studio album, “Golden Hour.” The 2018 release reached new heights for the singer-songwriter, earning an impressive 89 score on Metacritic and being labeled one of the greatest albums of all time by Rolling Stone. Acclaim wasn’t particularly new for Musgraves, who had received raves for her debut, “Same Trailer Different Park.” However, “Golden Hour” made an even greater impact in the popular consciousness, especially with its more pop-oriented sound. It culminated in one of the biggest honors in music: the Grammy for Album of the Year. In honor of the album’s fifth anniversary, let’s take a look back at how the win reflected some important trends that we can still see today in Grammy voting, and just how strong a contender “Golden Hour” had to be to achieve it.

This week on The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, as everyone started to close in on Karli and the Flag Smashers, big decisions had to be made — culminating in one of the MCU’s most disturbing moments ever, on any size screen.
Episode 4, titled “The Whole World Is Watching,” opened with a flashback to Wakanda, six years ago, where Ayo led Bucky through some sort of ritual that rid him of Zemo’s control forever. Cut to “now” and that alleyway in Latvia, where Ayo cannot understand why, after all the time and resources Wakanda invested in helping Bucky, he has now freed Zemo.
