Exclusive: Taylor Zakhar Perez, the breakout star of Amazon’s hit rom-com Red, White & Royal Blue, has signed with Paradigm for representation.
In the film from director Matthew Lopez, which adapts the New York Times bestselling novel from Casey McQuiston, Perez plays Alex Claremont-Diaz, son of the American President (Uma Thurman), whose feud with a British prince (Nicholas Galitzine) threatens to drive a wedge in U.S./British relations. Subsequently, the pair are forced into a staged truce that sparks something deeper.
Produced by Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schecter, the film premiered in August 2023 and became the No. 1 movie globally on Prime Video in its premiere weekend, remaining the platform’s most-watched film worldwide for the first three weeks after its release. Touted by Amazon as spurring “a huge surge in new Prime membership signups,” the film is also now among Prime Video’s top three most-watched romantic comedies of all time.

Minx didn’t have much luck. After being canceled by HBO Max after one season, the erotic comedy was saved by Starz, but Minx has been canceled yet again following its second season.
The news isn’t all that surprising, but still a blow for fans of the series. Set in 1970s Los Angeles, Minx stars Ophelia Lovibond as Joyce, an “earnest young feminist who joins forces with low-rent publisher (Jake Johnson) to create the first erotic magazine for women.” In addition to Ophelia Lovibond and Jake Johnson, Minx also stars Idara Victor, Jessica Lowe, Lennon Parham, Michael Angarano, and Oscar Montoya. The first season stands at 98% on Rotten Tomatoes, although its audience score is much lower.

Starz will not be proceeding with a third season of 1970s-set series Minx.
The news is not surprising. Minx star Jake Johnson told Deadline last month that he did not expect a Season 3 renewal for the period erotic comedy, whose Season 2 finale aired Sept. 8.
Starz last January stepped in to rescue Minx, starring Ophelia Lovibond and Johnson, following the series’ cancellation by Max (then HBO Max) as part of cost-cutting tax write-offs while production was wrapping on Season 2. The premium network, which is in the process of cutting ties with owner Lionsgate, picked up both Season 1 and the unaired Season 2 of Minx, which is produced by Lionsgate Television. Both seasons will remain on the Starz app and all major platforms.

Bottom Dollar is closing shop.
Starz has opted to cancel Minx, the comedy about the first porn magazine for women, after a two-season run. The news comes after the series from creator Ellen Rapoport was originally developed for Warner Bros. Discovery streamer Max, which aired the first season and paid for a second before ultimately scrapping the show as a tax write-off with mere days remaining before production on the sophomore run was completed.
Minx was shopped by producers Lionsgate Television with the studio ultimately setting up the comedy starring Jake Johnson and Ophelia Lovibond at Starz, which is currently controlled by its parent company, Lionsgate. Max effectively paid to produce season two, with Lionsgate footing the bill to complete production and market season two. The second season premiered in July, in the thick of the writers and performers’ strikes making it challenging for cast members and producers to promote the show’s return.

“Minx” has been canceled at Starz, Variety has learned.
This now marks the second time the series has been canceled. The first season of the comedy originally aired on Max, where it was renewed for a second season before it was canceled in a cost-cutting move.
Starz then announced that they had acquired the second season of the show and would air it along with the first. Season 2 debuted on Starz on July 21. Both seasons remain available to stream on the Starz app and platforms.
The show received positive reviews from critics, holding an average critical approval rating of 93% over both seasons on Rotten Tomatoes. It failed to find a large audience, however, with the linear airings on Starz of Season 2 averaging less than 100,000 viewers per episode. There is no streaming viewership data publicly available for the series.

It looks like Minx won't be back for a third season. Star and executive producer Jake Johnson isn't expecting Starz to renew the low-rated series. Season two finished airing on the cable channel in early September.

Together, they create the first erotic magazine for women, Minx. Through this partnership, they discover meaningful relationships in unexpected places. Jake Johnson is predicting “Minx” will get canceled, again, and this time for good.
The actor, who also serves as a co-executive producer on the series, told Deadline that a third season is unlikely. “Minx” has already been through a lot: it was initially canceled at Max after already completing production on Season 2. Starz later acquired and aired that season, but it sounds like the 1970s-set comedy centered around a women’s adult magazine ends now.
“I think the move to Starz, I think HBO kind of doing their HBO thing, or HBO Max, whatever it’s called now, I think that was brutal for [the show],” Johnson said. “Then, I think the strike coming out right as we were trying to promote it…My guess is you can’t beat something up that many times and keep going.”
Johnson called the situation “unfortunate” as “there was a lot to that show.

While there’s still no official word regarding Minx‘s renewal, it’s looking more and more like Bottom Dollar is going out of business for good.
Series star Jake Johnson recently told our sister site Deadline that he doesn’t expect the comedy to come back for Season 3. He called the show’s 2022 renewal-then-cancellation at Max, and the subsequent move to Starz, “brutal,” adding that Season 2’s unfortunate timeline didn’t help things, either.

A third season of Starz’s period erotic comedy Minx isn’t likely in the cards, according to co-ep and star Jake Johnson.
In a recent Zoom chat with Deadline, the actor shared that he hasn’t heard anything about a final decision. “But by evidence of me cutting my hair short,” he said, “I don’t [expect a renewal].”
“I think the move to Starz, I think HBO kind of doing their HBO thing, or HBO Max, whatever it’s called now, I think that was brutal for [the show],” Johnson reflected. “Then, I think the strike coming out right as we were trying to promote it…My guess is you can’t beat something up that many times and keep going.”
Johnson called the hampering of the show’s success, simply as a result of the turbulent Hollywood moment in which it debuted, “unfortunate,” given his feeling that “there was a lot to that show.

In Hear Me Out, Primetimer staffers and contributors espouse their pet theories, hot takes, and even the occasional galaxy-brain idea.
Bottom Dollar is no more. The scrappy porn publisher at the center of Starz’s Minx has been replaced with a shiny new conglomerate — Papadopoulos-Renetti Global — that puts Doug Renetti (Jake Johnson) back on top, and at odds with his former co-workers. It’s a not-so-surprising turn of events, as their publisher and one-time savior Constance Papadopoulos (Elizabeth Perkins) spent much of Season 2 shaking up the company structure and, by extension, the group dynamic. The billionaire widow may have seemed impressed by Joyce (Ophelia Lovibond) and Doug’s efforts, even taking the time to bestow praise and promotions on art director Richie (Oscar Montoya) and managing editor Tina (Idara Victor), but she was covertly planning a seismic overhaul of Bottom Dollar Publications.

[This story contains spoilers from the season two finale of Minx, “Woman of the Hour.”]
In Minx‘s season two finale, the Bottom Dollar gang reunites to hit back at Constance Papadopoulos’ takeover, which has not only reshaped the magazine (titled “Minx”) but slowly revealed itself as more hostile than (almost) anyone realized.
While much of the group catches on in the finale, Doug (Jake Johnson) was the first to see Constance’s (Elizabeth Perkins) moves for what they were, bringing the evidence to Tina (Idara Victor) in the season’s penultimate episode while she was on a cabin-in-the-woods retreat with Joyce (Ophelia Lovibond) finding new women to join the Minx staff.
But the magazine’s international operations — promised to Doug by Joyce — were handed to Tina by Constance. Earlier in the season, Tina also turned down Doug’s marriage proposal after they both attended her family dinner, where Doug discovered she never told her family they were dating. As a result,...

It’s all about beginnings and endings in the Season 2 finale of “Minx.” The 1970s-set comedy from Ellen Rapoport starring Ophelia Lovibond as the idealistic editor of a popular women’s magazine ends its triumphant sophomore outing with an episode that attempts to reset the status quo.

Jake Johnson is a TV guy. You probably know him best from his days starring as Nick Miller in seven seasons of "New Girl," but since 2022, he's also starred as Doug Renetti in "Minx." In the series, he clashes with Ophelia Lovibond's Joyce about the running of their joint magazine, Minx, which is half feminist essays and half pornography. And just Fyi: if you run into Johnson and call him one of his characters' names, he'll never get upset.
"I love TV more than movies," Johnson tells Popsugar. "A lot of my generation of actors, when we all came up, everybody was a real snob about TV, and everybody only wanted movies. So I pretended to be cool too and say, like, 'Dude, everything is film.'"
"But growing up, everything to me was TV," he adds. "It was 'Roseanne.

[Lennon Parham’s answers were collected prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike authorization.] Minx is quickly approaching its Season 2 finale, and the characters have been through quite a lot already, particularly Shelly (Lennon Parham), Joyce’s (Ophelia Lovibond) sister and a contributor to the show’s titular publication. After first finding a spark with Bambi (Jessica Lowe) in Season 1, Shelly has come even further out of her shell, having explored swinging alongside her husband and most recently engaging in an affair with Joyce’s former professor on a visit to Vassar. As she struggled to find herself and come to terms with her identity, Shelly finally came to the realization in Episode 7, “God Closes a Door, Opens a Glory Hole,” that she is a lesbian. Starz “The process of coming out, I think, or discovering your sexual identity isn’t necessarily a straight line for most people,” series creator Ellen Rapoport told TV Insider.

In our Q&a series Popsugar Crush, we get to know some of our favorite celebs' more intimate details - from their signature scent to their perfect date night. This month, we're crushing on "Minx" star Jessica Lowe.
Jessica Lowe's Bambi is the beating heart of "Minx." The series, which moved to Starz for its second season, follows the titular women's magazine, which combines feminist essays with very sexy pornography, featuring men exclusively. Jessica Lowe's Bambi is the beating heart of "Minx." The series, which moved to Starz for its second season, follows the titular women's magazine, which combines feminist essays with very sexy pornography, featuring men exclusively. And while her coworkers may overlook her from time to time, Bambi embodies what it means to be a Minx woman more than anyone else.

[The following story includes spoilers for Minx season two.]
In the second season of Minx, Idara Victor’s Tina and Oscar Montoya’s Richie have not only gotten expanded storylines but also a tighter relationship.
It’s a noticeable screen time pivot for the duo, who frequently found themselves on opposite sides of the Bottom Dollar coin during the show’s first season. That hasn’t quite changed in season two, but as Joyce (Ophelia Lovibond) and Doug (Jake Johnson) seemingly move farther apart with the presence of Minx‘s new wealthy investor Constance Papadopoulos (Elizabeth Perkins), the business-minded Tina and artistic-minded Richie have come to find solace in one another amid the chaos.
And much in line with the second season’s theme of “getting bigger” and “going harder,” in the first six episodes of the Starz show’s second run, viewers have been given substantial looks at both Oscar and Tina’s home lives,...

[Portions of this interview were conducted prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike authorization.] [Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Minx Season 2 Episode 6 “This Is Our Zig.”] Minx‘s second season is quickly approaching its end, and Joyce (Ophelia Lovibond) is learning a big lesson in the latest episode, “This Is Our Zig”: Not everything is about her. The head of the show’s titular erotic magazine headed to Vassar with sister Shelly (Lennon Parham) with the intention of getting her old professor to write a prologue for her forthcoming book. She didn’t exactly achieve that goal, and in the process, Joyce is rightly put in her place for thinking too narrowly about the unfolding events. As she introduces Shelly to her school, Joyce discovers that her sister once attended college, albeit briefly, which put a crack in the view Joyce had of her sister. It turns out that when their mother left the family, Shelly left school to help ...

Though less obvious about it than some other streaming services, Peacock has been churning out some of the best TV of the year. On the heels of Emmy-nominated series “Poker Face” and “Mrs. Davis” comes the return of Craig Robinson’s comedy “Killing It.” The show stars Robinson and Claudia O’Doherty as Craig and Jillian, two underdogs who team up to kill snakes to win prize money, a real thing that happens in Florida as a means of protecting the ecosystem from invasive pythons.
In Season 2, which is now streaming, the pair’s talent for killing snakes leads to the realization of Craig’s dream: owning a saw palmetto farm, which he hopes will give him the means to become a mogul. The comedy, which hails from “Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s” Dan Goor and Luke Del Tredici, is as endearing as it is biting as it takes on issues of class...

Make no mistake: It's women who come out on top in Minx's Battle of the Sexes, which plays out in various ways across Season 2, Episode 5, "A Stately Pleasure Dome Decree."
With Joyce (Ophelia Lovibond) and Doug (Jake Johnson) heading to Las Vegas to woo international buyers, Bottom Dollar's employees turn their attention to one of the biggest cultural moments of the 1970s: the tennis match between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs, dubbed the "Battle of the Sexes" by promoters. When the male models call King's talent into question — "I could return that serve with my hands tied behind my back," one says — Shelly (Lennon Parham) challenges them to prove it. In that moment, Minx makes (likely) history with the first televised penis-tennis match, in which Dustin (Chris Riggi) shoves his junk into the bottom of a tennis racket and stands opposite Shelly on the chalk-lined court.

[This story contains spoilers from Minx season two, episode four: “Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Sexiness.”]
In Minx‘s second season, Ophelia Lovibond’s Joyce Prigger is finally wearing the pants when it comes to control over the magazine’s business and creative content decisions.
Her reunion with Jake Johnson’s publisher Doug Renetti — after his ego let her walk away from the magazine last season — has resulted in a new hierarchy at the publication (titled “Minx”). One where the magazine has returned better than ever, but with the financial backing of Elizabeth Perkins’ Constance Papadopoulos, a billionaire shipping magnate who has sparred with men for control in her own life.
And she has given Joyce majority control, allowing Minx’s co-founder and concept creator to finally envision the magazine how she wants — with fewer compromises.

Doug Renetti (Jake Johnson) is putting everything he has into the brand for Minx‘s latest episode, “Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Sexiness,” and we have your exclusive first look at his efforts. As the episode logline teases, Joyce (Ophelia Lovibond) is letting herself get a little sidetracked by a new romantic connection while Doug and Bambi (Jessica Lowe) work together to create “Club Minx,” a potential extension of the brand. Their efforts yield exciting results for onlookers in the sneak peek clip above, which sees Doug working his magic to make male dancers shine and excite the audience. (Credit: Starz) While Joyce, Constance (Elizabeth Perkins), and Tina (Idara Victor) observe the performance among the audience, Doug watches from the sidelines, miming moves and motivating the dancers. HBO Max renewed and then cancelled Minx before its second season could be completed. Is there a chance that Starz will want to pay to restart production for a third season? Will Minx be cancelled or renewed? Stay tuned.

Before indie sleaze, there was porno chic. And if Apple TV+’s recent “City on Fire” brought back to life the fashions and music of the early oughts’ indie sleaze heyday, then Starz’s “Minx” absolutely owns porno chic, down to the last unbuttoned button.

Few revivals are necessary. “Justified: City Primeval,” the new eight-episode limited series that welcomes back U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens (Best Drama Actor nominee Timothy Olyphant), is probably not one of them. After all, original recipe “Justified” ended on the highest of high notes. In fact, one might even dare to say it featured one of the best series finales of all time. And yet, there is no denying how great Olyphant is in the role or how much we’ve missed TV’s coolest lawman. So why bother?

When it was first announced that “Minx” would not be returning to HBO Max, it was certainly a “rug pull” for the sex-positive dramedy’s cast and creators. But it wasn’t long before that “sad shock” led to a rebirth at Starz.
“It’s actually kind of an honor because we felt the response from the crowd right away, and we felt the anger from people,” Jake Johnson, who plays porn distributor Doug Renetti, told TheWrap in an interview conducted prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike.
The team quickly learned three streamers were bidding on the series after its cancellation at HBO Max. Suddenly, the outrage and shock around their series’ abrupt ending became something far more positive.

The comedy series "Minx" takes viewers back to the 1970s and the very beginnings of magazines centered around women's sexuality. The series follows a exuberant young feminist named Joyce (Ophelia Lovibond), who seeks to create a magazine focused on women's rights and dismantle the rigid gender norms of the 1970s. In an industry dominated by men, this proves to be difficult until she teams up with adult-magazine publisher Doug Renetti (Jake Johnson). Together, they work to create the first-ever erotic magazine targeted toward women. In season two (which airs on Starz after the show was dropped by Max), the company has to balance its early success with staying true to their roots.
"Minx" takes place during one of the most influential periods in history for feminism and sexual expression, but is it based on a true story? While "Minx" is not based on one singular story, it is inspired by real events of the 1970s.

During a star-studded promotional screening of “Deep Throat,” Joan Didion shares a prescient observation. She doesn’t want to — at least, not in that moment. All she wants is to enjoy the lavish party put on to promote Minx magazine. Check that: All she really wants is to be left in peace to use the restroom, but Joyce Prigger (Ophelia Lovibond), the editor-in-chief of Minx, can’t contain her giddy inquiries long enough for the acclaimed journalist to relieve her bladder. Joyce wants Joan to write for the magazine; something about “Deep Throat” and what it reflects about the shifting ‘70s culture, if not society at large. Joan isn’t all that interested, and instead encourages Joyce to pen the piece herself — but not before offering her reluctant, rushed assessment of the landmark porno being screened in the adjacent auditorium. “I don’t think it was their intent,” Joan says,...

Minx‘s tortuous path to Season 2 might’ve been a nail-biter for the fans — HBO Max renewed the comedy in May 2022, then cancelled it that December — but Starz’s quick decision to keep the show going meant that the cast knew fairly soon that Bottom Dollar Production’s doors would stay open.
And as a bonus, Ophelia Lovibond and Jake Johnson point out in the video above, the outcry meant everyone involved in making the show had a really good sense that people were watching.

[This interview was conducted prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike authorization.] “Be careful what you ask for. You might just get it,” says star Jake Johnson of the theme for Season 2 of this effervescent comedy about an upstart 1970s erotic women’s magazine called Minx. At the end of Season 1, Johnson’s cavalier dirty-mag publisher Doug Renetti relinquished control of the transgressive title — a fusion of feminism and full-frontal nudity (think: essays about equal pay and reproductive rights alongside revealing photos of hunky men) — to uptight founding editor Joyce Prigger (Ophelia Lovibond). When we pick up in Season 2, which moves to Starz from HBO Max, Joyce is trying to select a swank new publisher while Doug is wallowing in his failures. “He was humbled by everybody turning on him,” Johnson says. “He did something selfless, but he’s not a selfless individual. Now he’s gotta fix that blunder.” The duo quickly recognize that they need each other...

[This interview was conducted prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike authorization.] Minx is almost back and making a splash with the addition of Elizabeth Perkins to its stellar ensemble of stars. She plays Constance Papadopoulos, “a billionaire shipping magnate titan, who has a very sketchy past,” reveals the actress. As viewers will recall, publisher Doug Renetti (Jake Johnson) relinquished control over erotic magazine Minx geared toward women to its original creator Joyce Prigger (Ophelia Lovibond), but they’ll need some help handling the successful publication. Turning to Constance, Joyce and Doug will face a new adventure with her involvement. “I was in love with the show before they even asked me if I wanted to come on in Season 2,” Perkins reveals. “Everything about it, the exploration of Los Angeles in the seventies, the early feminism,” she clarifies. (Credit: Starz) When it comes to Constance, Perkins says when viewers are introduced to her, she’s “bored with all of...

Second seasons are tough. Second seasons of a show that’s been axed by one network and saved by another are tougher, at least from a pressure standpoint. Enter Minx, the Ellen Rapoport-created comedy revolving around a fictional feminist magazine in the 1970s. The show was renewed then canceled over at HBO Max before Starz stepped in to save it. The question is, was it a show worth saving?
In the inaugural 10 episodes, Minx followed a self-proclaimed feminist named Joyce Prigger (Ophelia Lovibond) as she launched the female-forward magazine Minx with porn publisher Doug Renetti (Jake Johnson). They peppered the pages with phallus to lure women in, while spreading word about women’s rights through captivating copy.

The story of how “Minx” Season 2 was moved to Starz is almost as interesting as the content in the actual show. You see, after Season 2 had been shot, Warner Bros. Discovery decided to cancel the show and remove it from its streaming service. This meant that all the hard work that was put into Season 2 might have been lost forever. Thankfully, Starz swooped in and was able to save the show, giving the retro comedy a home and a new lease on life.

In Season 2, per the official synopsis, Doug, Joyce, and the entire Bottom Dollar crew grapple with Minx’s explosive success, which takes them all to thrilling new places and brings more money, fame and temptation than anyone knows how to handle.
