Roger Waters, co-founder and principal songwriter of Pink Floyd, fuses the epic and the personal in Roger Waters The Wall, a concert film that goes well beyond the stage. Based on the groundbreaking concept album, Roger Waters The Wall could be called a concept film: it’ s a state-of-the-art show that dazzles the senses, combined with an intensely personal road trip that deals with the loss Roger has felt throughout his life due to war. On stage and now on film, Waters has channeled his convictions into his art and his music.
With Roger Waters The Wall, Waters – together with his fellow musicians and his creative collaborators – brings audiences an exultant ride of a rock and roll concert, and delivers an unforgettable, deeply emotional experience. A rescoring of Drive has caused online outrage, but Mark's keeping an open mind about musical reinterpretations
Movie music matters. It's tough to wax lyrical about why it matters without sounding like one of those autocue scripts that we'll be hearing all throughout the coming awards season, probably read out by unlikely pairs of presenters, (“Now, to present the award for Best Sound Editing, Justin Bieber and Angela Lansbury!”) so let's just say that it does.
Whether it's an original score from Hans Zimmer or a jukebox tour of Quentin Tarantino's record collection, a movie's soundtrack informs the tone and timbre of the movie itself. So when we get into the question of movie rescores, we're really getting back into that thorny issue of asking whether the director's original intentions are sacrosanct to any subsequent versions of a film. As some of you may already have guessed, we bring...

Pink Floyd has had numerous starts and stops over the decades, but the legendary band may finally be nearing the end of their epic journey. Singer/guitarist David Gilmour says that the group's upcoming "The Endless River" -- their first album in over 20 years -- will likely be their last studio effort. Gilmour and drummer Nick Mason are the only original members left from their commercial peak in the 1970s when they released such endearingly iconic albums as "Dark Side of the Moon" and "The Wall." Founding member Roger Waters exited the group in 1985 and keyboardist Rick Wright passed away in 2008, although some of his work will be heard on the upcoming album. In an interview with BBC, Gilmour explained, "Well, Rick is gone. This is the last thing that’ll be out from us." "Yes, I’m pretty certain there will not be any follow up to this," he later elaborated.

After David Gilmour’s wife, Polly Samson, spilled the beans via Twitter over the weekend, Pink Floyd confirmed today that the British group will, indeed, release new music this October. The album, “The Endless River,” will be mainly ambient and instrumental music based on recording sessions that took place during the making of Pink Floyd’s last studio album, 1994’s “The Division Bell,” according to a statement released by the band’s label, Columbia Records. The sessions feature guitarist Gilmour, drummer Nick Mason, and keyboardist Rick Wright, who died in 2008. Gilmour is producing the album along with Phil Manzanera, Youth, and recording engineer Andy Jackson. “The Division Bell,” which featured lyrics penned by Samson, was Wright's last work with the band and the last studio album released by Pink Floyd. Co-founder Syd Barrett quit the band in 1968 (and died in 2006); Roger Waters left the band in 1985 and despite a great...

This weekend, David Gilmour's wife Polly Samson tweeted that a new Pink Floyd album was going to come out in October, and people were in a tizzy. Now the band has confirmed they will release their first record of new material in 20 years, entitled The Endless River. They are saying the album will mainly be "ambient and instrumental music" that came out of the recording sessions for 1994's Division Bell. The album will feature David Gilmour, Nick Mason, and, most notably, Richard Wright, who passed away in 2008. Considering when it was recorded, it is rumored to perfectly line up with the TV show Oz. Though, we guess, ambient instrumental music would line up with mostly anything. ...

After the news leaked over this past weekend, Pink Floyd has now released a statement confirming their new album that is currently set for Fall release. Via the band's official site: "Pink Floyd can confirm that they are releasing a new album "The Endless River" in October 2014. It is an album of mainly ambient and instrumental music based on the 1993/4 Division Bell sessions which feature David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Richard Wright. The album is produced by David Gilmour with Phil Manzanera, Youth and recording engineer Andy Jackson. Work is still in progress, but more details to come at the end of the Summer." On June 30th, 2014, Pink Floyd released a 20th anniversary box set of The Division Bell, the band's 1994 multi-million selling album that debuted at No 1 in the UK and in the...

Someone can’t keep a secret. Pink Floyd guitarist/vocalist David Gilmour’s wife, Polly Samson tweeted on Saturday, “Btw Pink Floyd album out in October is called “The Endless River.” Based on 1994 sessions is Rick Wright’s swan song and very beautiful.” Oops. After she oh-so-casually dropped this news, the internet went up in flames in excitement. The album will be the first album of unreleased material since 1994’s “The Division Bell.” It’s unknown if “The Endless River” is composed of tracks recorded during the same sessions for “The Division Bell” and they will now be released as they were recorded then or they will be enhanced with new production and recording, sort of like Michael Jackson’s “Xscape album.” “The Division Bell” featured Gilmour, Wright, and drummer Nick Mason, with many of the lyrics penned by Samson, and was believed to be Pink Floyd’s last album.

Pink Floyd's "final" album, The Division Bell, was released in 1994. The band's guitarist, singer and de facto leader, David Gilmour, apparently intends to commemorate the occasion with a deluxe reissue - and something a little more anticipated: the first new Pink Floyd album in two decades. Gilmour's wife, author Polly Samson, leaked the news on Twitter Saturday, writing, "Pink floyd album out in October is called The Endless River. Based on 1994 sessions is Rick Wright's swansong and very beautiful." Rick Wright, Pink Floyd's keyboard player, died of an undisclosed form of cancer in 2008. Touring Floyd singer Durga McBroom...

London, January 27: A few unseen clips of Pink Floyd have given hints that the band might reunite one last time for a good cause.
The psychedelic rock band's drummer Nick Mason, who came across the black and white film while piecing together archive footage, said that the band can come together again, the Mirror reported.
The 69-year-old said that the clips show him backstage with band members David Gilmour, Roger Waters, Richard Wright and Syd Barrett at some gigs in the late-60s.
Mason said that the plan is not fixed yet, but if there was a cause "worth it" then the surviving band members could reunite to make.

Storm Thorgerson, the artist behind numerous iconic album covers for bands like Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Phish and Muse has died in his native Britain. The artist was 69-years-old and had struggled against a long running battle with cancer.
Thorgerson's family released a statement saying, "His ending was peaceful ... He was surrounded by family and friends. He had been ill for some time with cancer though he had made a remarkable recovery from his stroke in 2003."
Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason tells the BBC of Thorgerson, "Two days before he passed away, and by then completely exhausted, he was still demanding approval for artwork and haranguing his loyal assistants." Vocalist David Gilmour calls Thorgerson "an inseparable part of [Pink Floyd's] work."...

Richard Kelly, who wrote and directed Donnie Darko, is behind The Box, and it is essentially another confusing, metaphysical period piece filled with sci-fi sensibilities and half-formed ideas powered by lofty ambitions. Whilst Donnie Darko worked because it integrated this into a story that was essentially about teenage angst and romance, The Box has no such anchoring narrative. As such it drifts into the absurd, feeling inconsistent, incomprehensible and worst of all tedious. Set in 1976, The Box follows the financially troubled family of a Nasa scientist (a character based on the life and work of Kelly’s own father if IMDb is to be believed, and played by James Marsden) whose wife (Cameron Diaz) receives a visit from a disfigured stranger bearing a gift. That gift is a box with a button in it, and instructions on its use. She is told that if the button is pressed within 24 hours...

The first time I saw a Micheal Haneke film I was fourteen. Late at night I stumbled across a story, whose title I had missed, about a somewhat reclusive young boy obsessed with violent images, including his own home made video of a pig being killed on a relatives’ farm. A deconstruction of the media, it's violent draw and the moral reactions of those who rely on it's power unfolds as Benny plots and kills a friend on camera. The coldness of the picture unsettled me and I would remember it's images for years to come, never able to find the film again, or its name. I wouldn't see Benny's Video again until 12 years later, though, when I did, it's power had not diminished. I had remembered the murder and it's lead up, the more obviously off putting aspects of the film, but perhaps the most horrifying part was forgotten about.
