The promotional tour for Anyone But You dove headfirst into the game, matching, if not surpassing, the excitement of the iconic Barbie campaign. Despite its straightforward approach, the tactics wielded proved exceptionally effective.
Fanning the flames of chemistry between the leads, Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney, both of whom were in a committed relationship of their own at the time, the supposed campaign proved to be a masterstroke. However, while Sweeney emerged unscathed from the promotional tour, Powell found himself in a tumultuous breakup.

Glen Powell has once again denied the rumors of him being involved with his Anyone But You co-star Sydney Sweeney. However, he revealed that both of them leaned on their chemistry off the screen to promote the film. The affair speculations arose after intimate set photos of the couple were shared online and they both flirted a little bit during the promotions of the film.

Sweeney, who also co-produced the film, was involved in the marketing of the film right from the beginning. Their efforts really paid off as the film went from a modest $6 million domestic debut to becoming one of the highest-grossing R-rated romantic comedies in a long time.

Glen Powell is giving credit where credit is due regarding his Anyone but You co-star Sydney Sweeney.
In a recent interview with The New York Times, the actor praised the Euphoria star for the role she played in the movie’s marketing strategy to help it become a rom-com genre hit. Sweeney also served as an executive producer on the project.
“The two things that you have to sell a rom-com are fun and chemistry. Sydney and I have a ton of fun together, and we have a ton of effortless chemistry,” Powell explained. “That’s people wanting what’s on the screen off the screen, and sometimes you just have to lean into it a bit — and it worked wonderfully. Sydney is very smart.”

Sydney Sweeney is a marketing genius. That’s Glen Powell’s reasoning for how their rom-com “Anyone but You” went from anything but a success to a box-office and VOD hit.
“The two things that you have to sell a rom-com are fun and chemistry. Sydney and I have a ton of fun together, and we have a ton of effortless chemistry,” Powell told the New York Times. “That’s people wanting what’s on the screen off the screen, and sometimes you just have to lean into it a bit — and it worked wonderfully. Sydney is very smart.”
Sweeney, who also executive produced the film through her Fifty-Fifty Films banner, was directly behind the “Anyone but You” marketing strategy. It included romantic pictures of her and Powell, longing looks on red carpets, and lots of flirting in interviews. And when Powell and his long-term girlfriend broke up, the rumors heated up.

Now that Daily Dead readers have had a chance to check out Immaculate in theaters, I am excited to share my recent interview with director Michael Mohan! We talked in detail about the film last week, from the journey the project took to get to the big screen, to working with Sydney Sweeney, and the ending everyone is talking about:
[Spoiler Warning]
What was the journey this project took to get into production? I understand it took a little bit of time and I'm curious about when you got involved in the process.
So it was the longest process for Andrew [Lobel], the writer. He came up with this about 18 years ago and it almost got made at a studio, where Sydney had auditioned for the part. She had multiple callbacks, but ultimately the film ended up falling apart.
Years passed and Sydney was tracking the project, seeing what was happening with it.

In his review of the new horror film Immaculate (you can read it Here), JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray said the movie – which reunites Sydney Sweeney with Michael Mohan, who directed her in the erotic thriller The Voyeurs and the Netflix series Everything Sucks! – is “a decent throwback to Dario Argento-style Italian horror movies.” During a recent post-screening Q&a at Alamo Drafthouse Cinema Boston Seaport, Mohan also revealed that one particular scene in the movie was inspired by the work one of my favorite grindhouse era filmmakers, Jack Hill – and that same scene also had to be salvaged with the help of Saw X director Kevin Greutert!
Our friends at Bloody Disgusting shared the information from the Q&A, reporting that Mohan said, “The biggest scene that did not work and I’m still not happy with is the scene when Isabelle tries to drown Cecilia. I studied a...

Last month, the Motion Picture Association ratings board announced that they had given the psychological horror film Immaculate, which reunites Sydney Sweeney with Michael Mohan, who directed her in the erotic thriller The Voyeurs and the Netflix series Everything Sucks!, an R rating for strong and bloody violent content, grisly images, nudity and some language. Fresh off her recent stint hosting “Saturday Night Live,” Sydney Sweeney made her way to Austin and SXSW for the world premiere of her new religious horror film “Immaculate” — and on Tuesday night, she had the crowd screaming (and laughing at their own reactions) at the Paramount Theatre.
The jump scares, in particular, had the entire theater jumping — and then giggling at their own fear. “Immaculate” leans into horror but also has plenty of moments of dark humor.
“I think that you really truly care about the characters and story,” Sweeney said during the on-stage conversation after the screening. “Yes, we wanted you guys all to jump in your seats and be hopefully horrified shitless. But you still care about the story.”
Neon is behind “Immaculate,” while Sweeney also produced the movie with Black Bear and Middle Child Pictures. The film is set to be released on March 22.

“Immaculate” is the third project that director Michael Mohan and Sweeney have collaborated on, after the 2018 series “Everything Sucks!” and the 2021 thriller “The Voyeurs.” Their newest creative vision is a project filled with twists, blood and a surprising amount of horniness for a movie set at an Italian convent. Euphoria star Sydney Sweeney turned dating rumors about her and Glen Powell into a humorous gag during her Saturday Night Live hosting debut.
Sweeney and Powell recently starred in the rom-com Anyone but You, a modern take on William Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing. During filming, Sweeney and Powell’s on-set chemistry stirred up rumors about the two having an affair. Powell was with his girlfriend Gigi Paris at the time while Sweeney is engaged to Jonathan Davino. (Powell and Paris later broke up).
On SNL, Sweeney addressed the alleged affair as the “craziest rumor” and affirmed her relationship with Davino.
“I just want to let everyone know that [Davino’s] the man of my dreams, and we’re still together and stronger than ever. He even came here tonight to support me. Can we cut to him?”
The camera cut to Powell rather than Sweeney’s fiancé to the audience’s cheers.

Sydney Sweeney has been on a seemingly constant tear since starring on HBO’s Euphoria, the project that truly launched her career after promising turns on the small screen’s The Handmaid’s Tale and Sharp Objects. But what’s fame without the occasional flop, rumor and label? Last night, Sydney Sweeney got the chance to address them all when she hosted SNL for the first time.
Taking the stage of Studio 8H, Sydney Sweeney opened her SNL monologue joking about her first major flop, Marvel’s Madame Web, which had an $80 million budget and only swung in $15.3 on opening weekend. “I am so happy to be here. My name is Sydney Sweeney. You might have seen me in Anyone But You or Euphoria…You definitely did not see me in Madame Web.”
Coming off of a dud of that magnitude, Sydney Sweeney showed a lot of confidence on SNL, especially in her brief monologue.

The Motion Picture Association ratings board gave Zack Snyder’s sci-fi war film Rebel Moon Part Two: The Scargiver and the Blumhouse horror production Imaginary PG-13 ratings this week, but they also sat through a movie that gave them some rougher material to sit through: the psychological horror film Immaculate, which reunites Sydney Sweeney – whose credits include Euphoria, the recent romantic comedy release Anyone but You, and the upcoming Sony Marvel movie Madame Web – with Michael Mohan, who directed her in the erotic thriller The Voyeurs. Immaculate is set to reach theatres on March 22nd, and it now sports an R rating for strong and bloody violent content, grisly images, nudity and some language.
