Although "The Simpsons" has a reputation as a show that's been dragged out long beyond its natural life span (never mind that it's still given us some banger episodes in recent seasons), it's worth noting that Fox easily could've milked the franchise way more than it has. As the show itself parodied in season 8's "The Simpsons Spin-Off Showcase," there were all sorts of shameless spinoff ideas Fox easily might've tried. Why not attempt its own "Frasier" or "Better Call Saul" or "Young Sheldon"? With such a massive hit as "The Simpsons" on its hands, why was the 2007 movie the most ambitious thing we ever got?
Turns out, it wasn't for lack of trying. Fox was genuinely interested in cashing in even more on the success of "The Simpsons," and creator Matt Groening made at least some attempt to pitch them ideas. As "Simpsons" writer and former showrunner Mike Reiss...

It’s been a long time coming, but a remake of the 1994 film The Crow (which was based on the comic book series created by James O’Barr) will finally be making its way out into the world on August 23rd, which is when Lionsgate will be giving the film a theatrical release. With that release date swiftly approaching, we figured we should gather together all the information we have on this movie… and here it is, Everything We Know About The Crow Remake:
Development Hell
When the original The Crow was released, it was successful enough to spawn a franchise, with three sequels following over the next eleven years. We got The Crow: City of Angels in 1996, The Crow: Salvation in 2000, and The Crow: Wicked Prayer in 2005, with several other potential sequels (including one that would have been written and directed by Rob Zombie) being developed and scrapped along the way.

Whew, it’s not even May, and the cinematic “body count” rises up considerably with another lone, determined warrior facing nearly insurmountable odds. I suppose this is more of the “John Wick” effect, as filmmakers try to “up the ante” and deliver a flick with near wall-to-wall frenetic action. So far this year we’ve gone from the spy showdowns of Argyle to the avenger of the elderly The Beekeeper, and winding up a couple of weeks ago with the manic Monkey Man. For this week’s thriller we’re sent to a near future time in an exotic foreign land as, in a nod either to old Variety newspaper headlines or the beloved ABC Tgif sitcom, Boy Kills World.

You thought you were okay sitting on the toilet until you read Dreamcatcher. You’d happily walk past a storm drain until you read It. You’d go into a creepy boutique shop before checking Needful Things out of the library. You didn’t even mind checking into Room 217 at a hotel until you read The Shining. More than perhaps any other horror novelist, Stephen King has unnerved our collective imagination with twisted creations that stalk our everyday lives. Demonic cars, rabid dogs, alien domes, possessed caretakers, crazed fans… there’s a Stephen King monster for every day of the year, plus one extra on leap years.
With a back catalogue reaching all the way from the 1970s to now, if you stacked every novel Stephen King had ever published in a teetering pile, it would almost certainly topple over and crush you to death.

To others, he’s the hapless, unlucky Air Bnb occupant in Barbarian or the ambitious, sniveling Marquis in the John Wick-iverse. And to still others, he’s the kid who followed his dad Stellan and his older brother Alexander into the family business, carving out a nice niche playing weirdos, monsters and assorted oddballs. Robert Eggers shared his terrifying take on “Nosferatu,” offering up the atmospheric first look at his remake of the famous vampire film to theater owners at CinemaCon this week. In the trailer, Lily-Rose Depp, playing a devout young woman, prays earnestly by candlelight. “Come to me, come to me, hear my call,” she intones before a hand reaches out to grab her neck.
And we’re off, with Eggers’ camera sweeping across wintery villages, dilapidated castles filled with secrets, and rats scurrying across cobblestones, portending some kind of primeval force that’s about to cast a shadow over everything. The movie evokes the best of classic horror — it’s moody, unsettling and also eerily beautiful. But it’s not just artful. There’s also blood gushing from necks and gangs of stake-wielding villagers hoping to use folklore to battle these unseen forces.
“Does evil come from within us or from beyond?...

The Joker is considered by many to be the greatest villain with respect to not only Batman, but all of DC, or even the superhero industry. Some even go to the length of calling him the most iconic villain in all of fiction. He is a villain so legendary, that his maniacal laugh and twisted sense of humor are instantly recognizable.

Bill Skarsgård’s upcoming film, Boy Kills World recently released its trailer, and fans cannot help but admire his physical transformation for the role. The 1990 television adaptation of Stephen King's horror novel "It" may be best known for Tim Curry's performance as Pennywise, who made an entire generation seriously terrified of clowns, but it would be nothing without the heart and soul of the Loser's Club. In the 1950s, a group of misfit kids growing up in Derry, Maine are brought together, partially because they don't belong anywhere else, but also because they happen to be targeted by the malevolent force that haunts their town, stealing and murdering its local children. Together, they have to face off against Pennywise to stop the killing once and for all. That's what they think, anyway. But despite defeating Pennywise as children, they're forced to return to Derry as adults and once again confront the terrors of their youth.
As a result of this, "It" has an interesting casting dilemma of finding not only seven...

This article contains spoilers for "It" and "The Mist."
Stephen King has long been criticized — usually playfully — for his inability to conjure satisfying endings to his ambitious horror tales. This criticism is so widespread that King himself has goofed on it: in Andy Muschietti's 2019 film "It Chapter Two," based on King's 1986 super-novel, James McAvoy plays an author who also notoriously can't finish his stories well. King makes a cameo appearance as a cantankerous thrift shop owner ... who says to McAvoy's face that his endings suck.
Perhaps fittingly, the ending of King's original "It" also sucks. It involves the main characters, all adults, confronting a giant spider monster in a sewer by burrowing into its body and crushing its heart. This confrontation was paralleled by a scene of the same characters as 12-year-olds fleeing the same monster years earlier. King fans will cringe to tell you what happened in the...

Bill Skarsgård, son of Swedish actor Stellan Skarsgård, has proven his talent as an actor with his performance in numerous projects. He made his first professional notable appearance as an actor in the lead role of the Swedish movie Simple Simon, released in 2011. His acting proficiency won him the European Film Academy’s Shooting Stars Award in 2012 when he was only 21 years old.
Different people have different talents. Although Skarsgård’s talent is undoubtedly acting, some might argue that he is good at it because it is in his blood since he is Stellan Skarsgård’s son. However, if there is one thing that remains undisputed about the actor, it is that he specializes in the horror genre.

Lionsgate has debuted the trailer for Rupert Sanders’ remake of “The Crow,” starring Bill Skarsgård and FKA Twigs. The film is set for release on June 7.
Both the 1994 version starring the late Brandon Lee and the upcoming remake are based on the graphic novel by James O’Barr. In Sanders’ iteration, Skarsgård plays Eric Draven, who is killed alongside his girlfriend Shelly (FKA Twigs). In a limbo between life and death, Eric makes it his mission to avenge their murders.
The new trailer shows Eric come back from the dead to get his bloody revenge. Alive once more, he’s imbued with supernatural powers and can withstand gunshots, shotgun blasts and stabbings. Lionsgate has now dropped the first trailer for the long-awaited new adaptation of the comic book by James O'Barr. Signature Entertainment have nabbed the UK rights for Moritz Mohr’s Boy Kills World, which is in UK cinemas in April. More on the film below.
Bill Skarsgård has seemingly dedicated 2024 to roles that push him to be increasingly nutty with each passing film. The Pennywise actor is set to appear in both Boy Kills World, Nosferatu and The Crow this year, all of which look positively deranged.

In the recent past, we have seen a lot of remakes of many original cult-classic films from the 21st century but most of them have ended up being a massive failure. It seems like a remake of Brandon Lee’s iconic, The Crow movie is all set to meet a similar fate after we saw the first look of Bill Skarsgård’s portrayal of Eric Draven.

Popularly known for portraying Pennywise in the horror film franchise It, Bill Skarsgård is set to star in the remake of the 1994 supernatural superhero film The Crow. Jenny Slate is one of today’s most frenetic stand-ups. She begins her latest special, Seasoned Professional (Feb. 23 on Prime Video), like a bottle rocket, eventually sending her mic stand flying with wild gesticulation and delivering a primal scream of love for her therapist. Offstage, Slate seems downright Zen and reflective about a still-young career. “I want to act forever, to keep generating new material,” she says over Zoom in early February. “But that ‘hitting some quota to make sure people know I’m here’ kind of ambition … that’s burned away. What remains is a steady sense of who I am and an excitement about the skill set I’ve developed.”
That skill set is diverse. After a season on Saturday Night Live in 2009, Slate fronted the breakout dramedy Obvious Child, appeared in an eclectic string of features (Joshy, Venom, Everything Everywhere All at Once), stole scenes on Parks & Recreation...

Bill Skarsgård, the guy who played Pennywise in It, is in a bit of a pickle. He got busted in Sweden with 2.43 grams of w**d. In 2017, director Andy Muschietti helmed "It Chapter One," adapted from the first half of Stephen King's massive horror tome, which had previously only been seen as a 1990 television miniseries starring Tim Curry as the terrifying Pennywise the Clown. Somewhat to the surprise of production company Warner Bros., it was not just a hit, but a huge box office phenomenon that blew financial projections out of the water. Although "It Chapter Two," released in 2019, couldn't match the critical or box office success of the first film, the franchise is nonetheless regarded as one of the most creatively ambitious adaptations of King's horror novels.
On the surface, "It" doesn't seem like it would need a tremendous amount of special effects work. The wildly unnerving story revolves around an evil clown murdering children in suburban Maine, which might require some extensive makeup but little else. That is, however, before you begin to...

In the years since this column’s debut, ’90s horror movies have actually found a sizable and heartwarming amount of rediscovery and reappreciation. Physical media has resurrected and restored numerous films to the point where even derided efforts like my beloved I Still Know What You Did Last Summer can get a celebratory 4K upgrade. With this new outlook, horror culture is starting to better redefine the historical landscape of the decade. The conversation is no longer enveloped by the shadow of Ghostface.

Real-life serial killer John Wayne Gacy has been the subject of a handful of horror movies over the years, played by Brian Dennehy in To Catch a Killer (1992), Mark Holton in Gacy (2003), and William Forsythe in Dear Mr. Gacy (2010). And then there’s 2010’s Dahmer vs. Gacy (yeah…) and the same year’s 8213: Gacy House, the latter a found footage horror movie.
Up next? Quiver Distribution is getting set to release brand new indie horror movie Gacy: Serial Killer Next Door later this month, and the official trailer has arrived this week.
In director Michael Feifer’s horror movie, “A teenager’s life in a quiet suburb changes drastically when John Wayne Gacy, a famed serial killer, becomes his neighbor. His curiosity leads to dark secrets and a frightening journey from innocence to a dire clash with evil.”

The question of how to get the most authenticity possible out of actors has been riling up filmmakers for as long as the film medium has existed. William Wyler ("Ben-Hur") did 40 takes; Robert Bresson ("Pickpocket") insisted on simple movements and monotone line deliveries; Italian Neorealists cast people off the street; Robert Altman ("Nashville") let actors improvise; Andrei Tarkovsky ("Solaris") kept them in the dark about how the story would end.
When it comes to horror, the quest becomes even more daunting: How do you convince viewers that the people they're seeing on screen are genuinely disturbed and terrified, while also securing enough distance between actors and characters to keep the shoot sustainable? Some films have attempted to split the difference by instilling genuine scares, discomfort, and emotional distress on their actors. Others assembled their respective violent scenarios to within an inch of their lives, placing performers into circumstances that were...

"Terrifier 2" might have been a surprise hit in 2022, proving too brutal for even some seasoned horror fans. But you'd never have expected such success based on the original movie. Released in 2016, "Terrifier" took director Damien Leone's psychotic slasher Art the Clown, previously the star of several short films, and built a whole movie around his gory exploits. Sadly, the result was less than impressive. As /Film's Chris Evangelista put it in his "Terrifier 2" review:
"The first "Terrifier" is what I'd call 'crap' [...] While I freely admit the film is loaded with some incredibly practical gore, the movie itself is little more than a plotless, storyless, valueless excuse to showcase that gore and not much else."
Luckily, Leone stepped up his game for "Terrifier 2," as evidenced by the much improved critical response, the $15 million it made on a $250,000 budget, and the fact we'll soon be getting the highly-anticipated "Terrifier 3.

In this chilling countdown, we’ll explore the three most terrifying characters in horror movie history and delve into what makes them so deeply horrifying. 3. Horror villains may terrify us and give us countless nightmares but that doesn't stop us from shelling out our hard-earned cash to see them hack their way through innocent victims on the big screen. There are innumerable reasons why these murderous figures have become pop culture icons: their signature modus operandi, their unique looks, the one-liners they spout before causing some serious bloodshed, whatever. From Leatherface to Ghostface, from Pinhead to Pumpkinhead, we simply can't take our eyes off the screen when these legendary monsters make their appearance.
However, there's no better way to undermine the terror and mystery of horror villains than by watching the actors who play them goof around behind the scenes. Not only does it destroy the illusion by revealing that these maniacs and monsters are just people in costumes and makeup but it shows that, in reality, they are about as harmless as Casper the Friendly Ghost.

Robert Eggers takes his tendency to stay faithful to a laboriously era-accurate vision to the story of Count Orlok in a remake of Nosferatu. The director of such films as The Witch, The Lighthouse and The Northman speaks with Total Film Magazine about Bill Skarsgård’s unrecognizable look for his adaptation. According to ComingSoon, Eggers says Skarsgård’s performance will be unlike anything he’s ever done before. Seeing as how he’s already shown his creepy demeanor in the It films and Barbarian, it will be interesting to see how different his interpretation will be to Max Schreck from the original 100-year-old film.
Eggers explained, “There are things that are Schreck-like but I felt we had to do something else. Basically I was like, ‘What would a dead Transylvanian nobleman actually look like for real?’ Bill lost a tremendous amount of weight.” He added, “He’s so transformed in...

Off the heels — or the fangs, rather — of the first image from Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu, the director has commented on lead Bill Skarsgård, who plays Count Orlok.
Speaking with Empire, Robert Eggers said his star is so immersed in the role that he might slip through the cracks when it comes to proper recognition. “I’ll say that Bill has so transformed, I’m fearful that he might not get the credit that he deserves because he’s just…he’s not there…He felt like honouring who had come before him. It’s all very subtle.” Those that came before him most notably include Max Schreck in the 1922 silent classic Nosferatu and Klaus Kinski in Werner Herzog’s Nosferatu the Vampyre (1979). Eggers’ comments call to mind 2000’s Shadow of the Vampire, which saw Willem Dafoe playing original Orlock Max Schreck and wondered if Schreck — who was so convincing in...

While vampire films have struggled to take a bite out of the box office lately, the patriarch of blood-sucker cinema, "Nosferatu," is coming back to show all those fanged foundlings how it's done. This new re-imagining of F.W. Murnau's officially unauthorized 1922 "Dracula" adaptation "Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror" (the second of its kind after Werner Herzog's 1979 horror film "Nosferatu the Vampyre") hails from writer/director Robert Eggers -- and if the filmmaker is to be believed, this will be a truly terrifying affair to help wipe away the memories of all those lackluster movies about creatures of the night.
Eggers made a splash terrorizing audiences with his feature-length debut "The Witch" before helming "The Lighthouse" and "The Northman," both of which are frequently trippy and full of bizarre visuals and ghastly violence but aren't really trying too hard to scare you. That won't be the case with "Nosferatu,...

The Max series Welcome to Derry, which will serve as a prequel to Warner Bros’ two-part adaptation of the classic Stephen King novel It (pick up a copy Here), went into production in Port Hope, Ontario earlier this year, aiming for a Halloween 2024 premiere. But, of course, the show’s progress has been slowed by the lengthy writers strike, which recently ended, and the ongoing actors strike. So the premiere is being pushed back a bit. "Terrifier 2" is one of the most unlikely horror success stories in movie history.
Seriously. A low-budget slasher film this gobsmackingly violent and depraved -- and one with a genre-busting two and a half hour running time to boot -- should not have been a massive critical and financial success. It should not have become the watercooler horror film of 2022. It should not have become the movie youngsters (and future horror fans) dared each other to watch at sleepovers. But it did. Damien Leone's sequel, a massive improvement on his first film in every imaginable way, tapped into something. Some people were clearly drawn to Art the Clown, the sadistic supernatural killer at the center of the film. Others found themselves compelled by the movie's dreamlike tone, and its surprising, off-kilter humanity. But everyone seemed equally fascinated by the gore. Sure, irradiated zombies and bloodthirsty apocalypse bikers can be pretty scary. Draculas and Frankensteins? Scary. Cthulhus… Mothmen… Graboids? The absolute worst. But for indie content creators, no boogeyman or cryptid is quite as hair-raising as the many great and monstrous leviathans ritualistically summoned by the occult and alchemical ritual known as filmmaking. Look: there’s Shaky Financing dragging itself out of the swamp, eyes burning blood red! And there: Collapsing Theatrical Market, unfurling its batwings in the rafters of the old abbey! And so on and so on.
But! As the Cryptkeeper, Vaultkeeper and Old Witch have have reminded us many times before, misery loves company. So rather than hanging on the edge of your seat anxiously peering through ragged knuckles at the current (but only temporary!) dumpster-fire state of your latest film project, instead console yourself with the fact that many of your Halloweentime horror favorites have had their own very bumpy rides.
