Brodie Van Wagenen, the 44-year-old former CAA agent who is now Gm of the New York Mets, has stirred up fresh talk about links between pro sports teams and media outlets that cover them by hiring ESPN’s Jessica Mendoza as a team adviser.
Mendoza, the team said, will have a role in player evaluation, roster construction, technological advancement and health and performance, as she continues in her role as an analyst for Sunday Night Baseball. In a statement through the team, the former U.S. Olympic softball player thanked ESPN and Disney for their “understanding and confidence as I balance both tasks moving forward.”

In honor of the NBA Finals, Jimmy Kimmel invited some professional basketball players to star in a special edition of "Mean Tweets," and sh*t got funny fast. While some of the athletes were teased about their appearance (former player Tracy McGrady was told he looks like "a grown ass Steve Urkel with Biggie Small's eyes"), others were also taunted about their skills on the court (someone tweeted that Warriors player Draymond Green had a jump shot that's "Almost as ugly as his face"). Ouch! Kobe Bryant was the last to star in the segment, reading a tweet that called him out for apparently crying to Seal's music. See all the hilarious ways the players responded to their burns.

Amid the attention and fame that went along with his life in the Kardashian clan, it's easy to overlook what was once an immensely successful (and lucrative) basketball career for Lamar Odom.
The game was a natural escape for the Queens, New York native, who's mother died of cancer when he was 12. His father, Joe Odom, was a disabled veteran and a heroin addict, leaving Odom to be raised by his grandmother, Mildred Mercer.
At 6 feet 10 inches tall and with the ball handling skills of a point guard, Odom's talents made him famous at a young age in his home town and beyond.

Posterized: when an offensive player athletically and emphatically slam-dunks the ball over an opponent in such a way that will prove their superiority, embarrass the defensive player, and warrant printing on a poster to immortalise the moment.
There’s a common perception that being big and tall makes it easy to play basketball, I wouldn’t call it a misperception, but sometimes it’s just not that fun. Throughout their careers, the biggest and baddest players in the NBA – such as Dikembe Mutombo, Patrick Ewing, Hakeem Olajuwon and Yao Ming – have been targeted as guys to dunk on.
Michael Jordan, Vince Carter, LeBron James, Blake Griffin and Kobe Bryant were, and are, all athletic freaks of nature. These guys seemed to have a list of big men they must dunk on before their respective careers are over. It doesn’t always happen, but when it does,...

To say that Raptor fans have felt agony amidst disappointment after disappointment is surely an understatement.
From Damon Stoudemire to Vince Carter, Tracy McGrady and Chris Bosh, there have been many former Raptor stars who all went on to (or what they thought were) greener pastures. In recent years, the annual question here in Toronto has been why can’t we keep or sign elite, star level athletes? Now that Steve Nash has signed with the Lakers, what does the rejection of Canada’s own say to other prominent future free agents?
If you sit down and think about it, maybe another question should be asked too: Did the Raptors dodge a bullet by Nash deciding on the Los Angeles Lakers?
There’s no doubting the impact Kid Canada would have had on and off the court. There’s no other NBA player who receives a louder ovation when they play here.
