Brittany Howard has shared another single, “Prove It to You,” ahead of her upcoming studio album What Now.
“My next song is one I’m really proud of,” Howard captioned a TikTok teasing the song last week. “It’s different than anything I’ve ever done but felt like a cornerstone of the new record. The band and I are excited to perform this one live for you all.”
On “Prove It to You,” which Howard co-produced with returning collaborator Shawn Everett, the Alabama Shakes singer goes full-on house. It’s backed by a chugging four-on-the-floor beat and a deep, heavy bass, as Howard takes on the persona of a disco diva: “Every time I try it comes out incomplete,” she sings, lamenting her inability to adequately express her love for her partner. “All I wanna do is prove it to you.”

Brittany Howard has readied her second solo album, What Now. Along with the news, she’s shared the record’s title track, and announced a new run of tour dates for 2024.
What Now marks Howard’s first release on Island Records, which she signed to back in September. There’s no release date for the project as of yet, but based on its title track’s lyrics (“I’ve been making plans that don’t include you anymore/ My heart wants to stay but I don’t know what for”), the record signifies a time of transition.

Anjimile — the singer-songwriter who broke through in 2020 with his debut, Giver Taker — is back with a new song, “The King.” The single is from his upcoming album of the same name, out Sept. 8 via his new label 4Ad.
“The King” is a dramatic, unsettling, yet grand track based around meticulously crafted choral arrangements, thumping percussion, and a striking riff that sounds like an uncanny harpsichord. With references to the biblical story of Belshazzar’s feast and the “writing on the wall,” Anjimile grapples with the grief and fury of being Black in America,...

The Killers have dropped a new single, “Boy.” The song, produced by the band alongside Stuart Price and Shawn Everett, marks the first music from the Las Vegas group since the release of their seventh album, Pressure Machine, last year.
The song, which the band debuted live in July, was written prior to making Pressure Machine. The themes explored in the lyrics are actually what led frontman Brandon Flowers to create that album: “Don’t overthink it, boy / white arrows will break / the black night / don’t overthink it, boy.

Phoebe Bridgers and the Killers joined forces at the Colours of Ostrava Festival in the Czech Republic to perform last year’s collaborative track “Runaway Horses.”
It marked the first time Bridgers and Killers frontman Brandon Flowers have sung the track, which comes off the Killers’ recent album, Pressure Machine, together live. It appears to have been an exciting moment for Bridgers herself, who posted on Twitter, “Ok who got a video of me singing with the killers.”

It’s been a gloomy few years since Alvvays’ last album, and Molly Rankin has had enough. “I don’t necessarily want to pivot into something brand-new and wear a shiny suit and try and make it onto the radio,” observes the Toronto-based singer-songwriter, whose band will return on Oct. 7 with their third LP, Blue Rev. “I mean, I will always have some songs about people dying or walking into a lake or what have you. But I’m ready for some levity.”
