Disney has released the official trailer for “Hocus Pocus 2,” in which the Sanderson sisters will once again put a spell on you. The new trailer debuted at the D23 Expo with an introduction from Disney Chairman Alan Bergman.
“It is a film that exists thanks to the overwhelming love all of you have here for the Sanderson sisters,” Bergman shared before re-introducing the crowd to a cute produced video hello from the sisters themselves.
Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kathy Najimy and Doug Jones are reprising their roles from the original 1993 film. Hannah Waddingham, Tony Hale, Sam Richardson, Lilia Buckingham, Belissa Escobedo and Whitney Peak also star in the sequel, along with “Drag Race” queens Ginger Minj, Kahmora Hall and Kornbread “The Snack” Jeté.
Waddingham’s role was revealed to be the witch who gives young Midler the book of magic, thus revealing a 370 year secret as to how the Sanderson sisters became magical.

'90s kids have waited a long, long time for this one, but the time is finally upon us! "Hocus Pocus 2" is nearly here and we even have a first look at the long-awaited sequel to prove it. The original movie was released nearly 30 years ago and, curiously, was released smack dab in the middle of summer by Disney, despite being a clear Halloween season film. That did it precisely no favors and it bombed at the box office. But "Hocus Pocus found new life on home video and cable, making it a generational favorite. Because of that, the Sanderson Sisters are back to terrorize Salem once more.
What was at one point going to be a remake thankfully ended up being a straight-up sequel, coming to Disney+ just in time for the spooky season this year. Ahead of the movie's release later this month, Disney+ presented a new...

The Sanderson sisters are back – again. In the first footage of “Hocus Pocus 2,” they’re looking to take the stage.
Once again, Winifred (Bette Midler), Sarah (Sarah Jessica Parker) and Mary (Kathy Najimy) have magically returned on Halloween thanks to a Salem resident lighting the Black Flame Candle. This time, a young girl named Becca (played by Whitney Peak) is the culprit. Becca is coming up on her 16th birthday, which, according to Sam Richardson’s magic store owner Gilbert, is the milestone at which new witches receive their powers. So while the young Dani Dennison (Thora Birch) faked being a witch back in the original “Hocus Pocus,” it appears that our hero could be the real thing this round. She’s certainly at least interested in toying with witchcraft.
You can watch the full teaser trailer for “Hocus Pocus 2” in the video above.

Exclusive: Netflix has won a competitive auction for rights to feel-good rom-com Lost Dog: A Love Story, an adaptation of Brit journalist Kate Spicer’s memoir of the same name.
Former New Line exec Lynn Harris is producing with her Weimaraner Republic partner Matti Leshem (The Shallows). Bash Doran, whose credits include Netflix’s Outlaw King, Channel4 and Netflix series Traitors and Hulu’s The Looming Tower, is attached to adapt.
The plot will follow a down-on-her-luck woman who searches the streets of London for the rescue dog that saved her life.
Spicer’s memoir charts how she was a middle aged woman trying to steer some order into a life that was going off the rails until a shabby rescue dog saved her from herself. When the dog disappeared she beat the streets of London in search of the pet. Along the way, she made allies including psychics, bloggers and mysterious midnight joggers.

The prospect of a Hocus Pocus sequel has been on the cards for some time now, with the film most likely appearing on Disney Plus. We’ve recently learnt that Adam Shankman is down to direct, while Sarah Jessica Parker, Bette Midler, and Kathy Najimy have all previously expressed an interest is returning to their roles.
In fact, Parker reinforced this wish during a radio show this week, making it seem that it’s only a matter of time before we get official confirmation of the three actors appearing in Hocus Pocus 2 as the Sanderson sisters. Speaking on SiruxXM, she had this to say about the Hocus Pocus sequel:
“I think that is something that Bette, Kathy, and I are very hospitable to the idea and I think for a long time people had been talking about it as if people were moving forward with it in a real...

Adam Shankman is set to direct “Hocus Pocus 2” for Disney+, an individual with knowledge of the project told TheWrap.
“Workaholics” writer and co-producer Jen D’Angelo wrote the screenplay, while Lynn Harris will produce the film. Original “Hocus Pocus” cast members Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy are not attached, but the studio is negotiating their involvement as to not reboot the first film.
“Hocus Pocus” followed three witch sisters who were cursed in Salem in 1693 but were resurrected 300 years later by a boy, his sister and the boy’s love interest. While the film wasn’t a box office success and only earned $39 million worldwide, it has become a cult classic, especially for Halloween time.

Adam Shankman is about to cast a spell on Disney+.
Variety is reporting today that Shankman, whose credits include Hairspray and A Walk to Remember, will spearhead the long-rumored Hocus Pocus 2. Workaholics writer and co-producer Jen D’Angelo is behind the sequel’s script with Lynn Harris on producing duties.
No word yet on whether the original cast – namely Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy – will reprise their respective roles, but all three actresses have gone on record about wanting to return as Salem’s cackling witches. Disney is certainly hopeful, too, as sources close to Variety claim that, while nothing has been finalized, the Powers That Be want the trio of actresses to headline Hocus Pocus 2, as opposed to mounting a full reboot.
Kenny Ortega was the brains behind the 1993 cult classic, and we’re intrigued to find out how Shankman and his team will present Hocus Pocus 2 to the modern-day audience.
