The man who struck Bebe Rexha in the face with his flying phone at a New York concert last summer may get away with only facing 40 days of community service for the attack.
During a recent court hearing, Nicholas Malvagna accepted an offer from the court to have his charges dismissed if he completes 40 days of community service and does not violate an order of protection for 6 months, Rolling Stone has learned.

This year, Netflix is hoping to make a splash in the limited series Emmy categories by appealing to current true crime-based entertainment consumption habits. Its “Inventing Anna” (created and produced by Shonda Rhimes) is a nine-part dramatization of the story of Anna Sorokin, who, using the surname Delvey, conned numerous rich New Yorkers into believing she was an heiress in temporary need of financial support. Recently, Variety’s Jenelle Riley moderated a virtual 2022 Emmys FYC panel consisting of half a dozen of the show’s cast members: Anna Chlumsky, Laverne Cox, Alexis Floyd, Julia Garner, Katie Lowes and Arian Moayed. Watch the video Q&a above.
Garner, a two-time Best Drama Supporting Actress Emmy winner for “Ozark,” first caught wind of Sorokin’s story while on her engagement trip in the spring of 2019. Although the thought occurred to her that she could successfully play the con artist in a screen adaptation,...

Arian Moayed faced an exciting new challenge with his role in Netflix’s “Inventing Anna” — adapting to the specific rhythms of a Shonda Rhimes show. The actor plays Todd Spodek in the smash-hit limited series, the lawyer of notorious scammer Anna Delvey, a role that required pages and pages of dialogue. While some showrunners don’t mind a bit of deviation from the script, Rhimes prefers her actors to stick to the text. “You have to put on a different element to your brain,” says Moayed in an exclusive new interview for Gold Derby. “Almost Shakespearean, in a way.”
Moayed taking on the role happened to coincide with a play he was working on called “The Courtroom,” which reenacts courtroom transcripts. This helped him delve into those trial scenes in the final episode of “Inventing Anna,” allowing him to access Spodek’s specific flow. “I understood where Todd was doing an objection,...

Anna Sorokin, the convicted swindler whose criminal adventures formed the basis of the hit Netflix 2022 series Inventing Anna, will soon be deported to Germany – if she hasn’t already been sent packing.
According to various media reports today, Sorokin – the real name of the self-invented Anna Delvey – was released from Ice custody yesterday and was no longer being detained in an upstate New York detention facility. Though her criminal defense lawyer Todd Spodek has declined comment, sources have told both The New York Times and the New York Post that Sorokin’s deportation was imminent, with the Post reporting that she was expected to board a flight to Frankfurt last night.
Sorokin had been fighting deportation for a year, having completed her prison stint for the crimes depicted in the Shonda Rhimes-created series in February 2021. Last March, she was detained at a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement office...

While the nine-episode Netflix series “Inventing Anna” dramatizes the events surrounding “fake heiress” Anna Delvey (aka Anna Sorokin), the actors filling the various roles went to great lengths to ensure their portrayals rang true. Showrunner and creator Shonda Rhimes purposefully chose not to meet the subject of her series, but she dispatched journalist Jessica Pressler to conduct interviews with Delvey while she was in prison to assemble the research needed for her show.
The resulting series is a whirlwind that vacillates from wish-fulfillment fantasy to investigative journalism drama to character study, with Julia Garner’s Anna Delvey at the center of it all. And before the Emmy-winning “Ozark” actress got on set, she visited Delvey in prison to get a sense of her personality away from the cameras.
“The thing that I got out of that meeting was how bubbly she was, how likeable she was, and how charming she was.

When bringing a “whole story [that] is completely true, except for all the parts that are totally made up” to life, “Inventing Anna” costume designers Lyn Paolo and Laura Frecon had to dive into Instagram.
“The very beginning of the project was actually more about research and matching everything that the real Anna wore for her Instagram — which sort of became our Greek chorus,” Paolo told Variety. “And that was extensive research… Even before we got into the fashion elements, we had to recreate that whole Instagram wall, and also all of the court looks.”
“Inventing Anna” follows faux-heiress Anna Delvey (née Anna Sorokin) (Julia Garner) as she awaits trial for grand larceny and theft of services. Shonda Rimes’ nine-episode series, which premiered Feb. 11 on Netflix, is inspired by the 2018 New York Magazine investigation by Jessica Pressler, who dove into the life of Sorkin and examined how she scammed her way...

Inventing Anna, the first show to come from the blockbuster deal between Netflix and great television creator Shonda Rhimes, boasts at the start of every episode that is “This whole story is completely true, except for all the parts that are totally made up”.
Even this disclaimer has the tongue-in-cheek shady tone of Anna Delvey, the con artist pen name of Anna Sorokin (Julia Garner), a middle-class Russian immigrant who successfully scammed her way into the New York City social elite by pretending to be a rich German heiress. In reality, Sorokin was born in Russia and moved to Germany aged 15. She studied in London and interned in Paris, where she started using the name ‘Delvey’, before relocating to New York. Her untraceable accent is a weird combination of influences from all these places.

At long last, Shonda Rhimes’ Anna Delvey series is finally here. When the “Grey’s Anatomy” creator signed a deal to make new shows for Netflix, one of her first projects was a limited series based on the true story of the “fake heiress” Anna Delvey. While the Rhimes-produced “Bridgerton” (which she does not showrun) was the first show out of the gate from Rhimes’ banner, “Inventing Anna” is finally here and it is created and showrun by Rhimes herself.
Emmy-winning “Ozark” star Julia Garner plays Anna Delvey (real name Anna Sorokin) in the nine-episode series, while Anna Chlumsky fills the role of the reporter trying to find the truth of the story after Delvey goes to prison. The extra-long finale ties up a number of loose ends, but is the “Inventing Anna” finale what happened in real life? Let’s dig into the fact and fiction below.

"Fashion show! Fashion show! Fashion show at lunch!" is my exact reaction to learning that Anna Delvey - otherwise known as the "Soho Grifter" or by her real name Anna Sorokin - pretty much put on a fashion show for the jury at her trial. Though this detail of Sorokin's sordid history of conning her way into New York's most elite circles feels like something straight out of a fictional TV show, it's very much real. After all, if you're going to pose as an innocent socialite, you've got to look the part.
When trial photos surfaced of Sorokin clad in a black dress with a plunging neckline, it got people talking - and understandably so. But it also left everyone wondering how she came into the possession of an Yves Saint Laurent blouse and Victoria Beckham pants while behind bars.
According to The New York Post, Sorokin's attorney, Todd Spodek,...
