Looking out the studio window of the radio station where she’d worked for 29 years, DJ “Mistress Carrie” Sarao could see a crowd gathering outside. It was a Friday night, Feb. 21, 2020, and freezing, but that didn’t stop hundreds of Bostonians from flooding the parking lot when they heard the news. There was no invitation, just an impulse, an impromptu meetup of loved ones known and unknown. At midnight, the city would lose its last rock radio station.

“The music video episodes are our main episode where we showcase the best queens from that season,” says production designer Gianna Costa. After winning an Emmy last year for Season 14’s music video episode “Catwalk”, Costa is nominated again this year for “Blame it on the Edit”, which is ideal for someone who grew up watching music videos on MTV. “My favorite part of the music video episodes is getting to look back at all these music videos I love.”
“Blame it on the Edit” features the final four drag queens of Season 15—Sasha Colby, Anetra, Mistress Isabelle Brooks and Luxx Noir London—performing a remix of RuPaul’s titular song. Each queen performs their own verse on the set of a spaceship. “It was very different from the rest of the season, but it was still in the Drag Race world.”

With 15 seasons under its belt, RuPaul’s Drag Race doesn’t appear to be slowing down any time soon.
“We’ll be doing these interviews when it’s RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 72,” joked Season 15 queen Mistress Isabelle Brooks, who was joined on Deadline’s Contenders Television: Documentary + Unscripted panel by queens Anetra, Sasha Colby and Luxx Noir London.
Season 15 was the biggest yet, literally, boasting the largest cast in the series’ history. The 16 queens competed for $200,000, its biggest cash prize even. It was also the first season to feature biological relatives, twins Sugar and Spice. Season 15 also was the highest-rated season of RuPaul’s Drag Race in three years, after the series moved from VH1 to MTV.
So what is the key to this longevity?
“I feel like Drag Race really just has everything you’re kind of looking for in reality television,” said London. “You have really pretty people. You have really dynamic personalities.

Whether you’re crowned America’s next drag superstar or not, going on RuPaul’s Drag Race is a transformative experience. TV Insider caught up with the final four of RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 15 just before they learned who would win the season. They shared how going on the show changed their lives, both in drag and out. “I don’t think my drag has evolved. I think my outlook on certain things has definitely changed,” Mistress Isabelle Brooks told TV Insider at the April 14 finale screening at New York City’s Hard Rock Hotel. “Going on Drag Race has taught me that drag is supposed to be fun. Before I was on Drag Race, I was in a very different place than most queens because I’ve always done drag full-time. It’s always been my career. I think that when something’s your job, it’s work when you do it.

Irene recovered beautifully and when she reached the front of the stage, the statuesque queen released paper moths that flew into the audience. Take that, Asia O’Hara!

By the end of episode 8 of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” season 15 on February 17, Jax found herself once again on stage in front of the judges to lip sync for her life. I have discussed numerous times about the Drag Race universe and the importance of throughlines across seasons/versions/iterations. This is why initially I thought it was an incredible idea that the iconic Daytona Winds challenge would re-appear in this week’s episode but with a slight twist in genre. For those who did not watch the episode you can learn about it here but this was a unique acting challenge where the queens were shocked to discover that farting noises were added in post-production leading to a hilarious series of events, however the situational comedy version of this show had no farts to be heard! The highlight for the episode however was the aftermath of the drama between Mistress Isabelle Brooks and Malaysia Babydoll Foxx boiling over only for them to act alongside each other in the challenge (leading to them being a highlight of the acting performance!) At...

The LALAPaRuZa lip sync smackdown has become one of RuPaul’s Drag Race‘s most iconic challenges, as queens compete against each other in jaw-dropping lip syncs to keep their spot in the competition. Season 15 of Drag Race had a larger-than-life LALAPaRuZa, with queens performing to songs such as Anitta‘s “Boys Don’t Cry” and Joan Jett’s “Do You Wanna Touch Me.” Some of the songs in the lip sync tournament have been used on Drag Race in the past.

RuPaul’s Drag Race acting challenges were a significant part of the reality television competition show’s early days. They continue to hold an important place on the show, allowing the drag queen contestants to demonstrate their performance skills in a unique way. But, some longtime fans wonder if they have the opportunity to watch the finished acting challenge before critiques.

RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 15 queen Mistress Isabelle Brooks brings charisma, uniqueness, nerve, and talent to every episode. However, she isn’t afraid to have a good time and not to take the competition too seriously. Machete actor Danny Trejo made a surprise guest appearance on a RuPaul’s Drag Race acting challenge, and Mistress didn’t take the moment for granted.

Season 15 of RuPaul’s Drag Race featured the largest cast of queens in the show’s history, as 16 queens came together to compete for the title of America’s Next Drag Superstar and a massive grand prize of 200,000. But despite it being a larger-than-life season, much of Season 15‘s first half contained episodes that were compressed into one hour (with commercials), as opposed to the 90-minute episodes that have been the standard since Season 10. Now, after an outcry from fans, 90-minute Drag Race episodes are back.

“RuPaul’s Drag Race” season 15 continued on February 10 with the next step in the competition toward discovering “America’s next drag superstar.” Last week, Aura Mayari was the stand out “golden gal” in the girl group challenge while Robin Fierce faded into the background and was asked to “sashay away.” This week, the 11 remaining girls star in the new sitcom reboot of last year’s “The Daytona Wind.”

The Daytona Wind has rolled in, smelling like a sitcom.
The acting challenge separated the comedians from the casualties on RuPaul's Drag Race Season 15 Episode 7. Acting challenges are hit or miss because it all depends on the script's strength and which roles the queens get.
And in true Drag Race fashion, some queens benefited from their starring roles while others struggled to shine. It's just another day on the soap opera set!
"The Daytona Wind 2" was a cheeky round full of canned jokes and tense drama.
Even with the joy of having the hilarious acting challenge return, much of the focus stuck on "Metalgate." The drama overshadowed everything until it could have its natural ending, which happened pretty quickly and easily.
The most heated moment started at the top of the episode during the regroup couches. Like it was fresh on their minds, so they had to vent and get it out there.

It’s ironic that RuPaul’s Drag Race would include Alyssa Edwards’ famous “rigga morris” line in the script for this week’s maxi challenge, because that pretty much describes the episode itself.
The Logo-turned-VH1-turned-MTV reality competition is regularly accused of over-producing for the sake of building a narrative, but the string-pulling felt especially egregious in Friday’s episode, which short-changed a truly deserving queen in favor of forcing a story.

One of the major draws to RuPaul’s Drag Race is the runway assignment. Many audiences wait with anticipation to hear the category of the week, demonstrating how the queens can creatively interpret the brief put in front of them. Previous fashion queens, such as season 3 winner Raja, season 9 finalist and All Stars 5 winner Shea Couleé, and season 13 finalist Gottmik are just some examples of contestants whose looks helped boost their careers to new heights in the fashion industry and beyond.

Shared via an Instagram post on Thursday, “RuPaul’s Drag Race” announced that it will return to airing 90-minute episodes beginning March 10. The Emmy winning competition series made its big jump to MTV in January and shocked and outraged its loyal fanbase with a new 60-minute format when the third episode aired on January 13. Also in a break from tradition, the sister series “Untucked” did not immediately follow the episode and instead aired a full hour after Rpdr’s conclusion.
MTV’s trimming of the “RuPaul’s Drag Race” season 15 episode length is perceived to have made room for its new series “The Real Friends of Weho,” starring “Canada’s Drag Race” host and judge Brad Goreski. That series premiered on January 20 following the fourth episode of Rpdr. It’s been airing in the 9 pm slot that had been previously occupied by the additional 30 minutes of Rpdr and “Untucked” when the show aired on VH1.

“RuPaul’s Drag Race” season 15 continues Friday night right where we left off in “Untucked” with the cat fight between Mistress Isabelle Brooks and Malaysia Babydoll Foxx. Tension between the two started when they were contending to claim heavy metal as their girl group genre and extended into the “Untucked” episode while Mistress was on stage for her critique with the judges. The tension escalates to a boiling point this week when Mistress confronts Malaysia directly. Watch the first six minutes of episode 7 now via the official Drag Race YouTube channel.

“Strap in, strap on, get ready — this is humongo.”
That’s how celebrity judge Ross Matthews expressed his excitement at the New York premiere of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” Season 15, held at the Conrad Hotel in Downtown Manhattan.
One significant change this season is that the flagship series has jumped to MTV after airing on VH1 for the past six years, which brought MTV icons Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi and Jenni “JWoww” Farley to the red carpet to support their new network sisters. Polizzi revealed that their New Year’s goal is to serve as guest judges on “Drag Race.”
“VH1 is our sister, but now that RuPaul and all the queens are with us, we’re officially a unit,” the “Jersey Shore” star told Variety. “Me and Jenny, our 2023 goal is to be judges on the new ‘RuPaul.’ Let’s put it into the universe, it needs to happen.”
