Is it time to play Vanessa Carlton’s “A Thousand Miles” for White Chicks 2? What Marlon and Shawn Wayans have said about the possibility of filming a sequel to the 2004 comedy turned early-aughts classic. Plus, who among their co-stars is eager for a White Chicks 2, and where the future of the Wayans brothers’ comedy stands today.
A ‘White Chicks 2’ sequel isn’t officially in the works
Sorry, White Chicks fans. The story of brothers Marcus (Marlon Wayans) and Kevin Copeland (Shawn Wayans) memorably going undercover as white women to investigate socialites’ kidnappings isn’t continuing. At least, not right now.
Marlon and Shawn, who wrote and starred in the film together along with their brother, Keenen Ivory Wayans as co-writer and director, have both discussed the possibility of a sequel over the years. However, today, one isn’t in development or production at Sony, the movie studio that owns the rights to the original.

Deer Tick have announced their new album, Emotional Contracts, out June 16th as their debut on Ato Records. They’ve also expanded their 2023 tour (grab tickets here) and shared the lead single, “Forgiving Ties,” alongside album track “The Real Thing.”
Emotional Contracts was produced by Dave Fridmann, who is best known for his work with The Flaming Lips, Spoon, and Sleater-Kinney. The 10-track LP includes a feature from Steve Berlin of Los Lobos and background vocals from Courtney Marie Andrews, Vanessa Carlton, Kam Franklin, Angela Miller, and Sheree Smith.
In a statement, vocalist/guitarist John McCauley described letting loose during the recording process. “This time we wanted to see what it would feel like to let go a bit,” he said. “We figured that the songs were strong enough to stand on their own two feet, so whatever we put them through would just make them stronger and take us in some new direction.

It’s impossible to forget Shania Twain’s video for “You’re Still the One,” where she strolls down the beach in a hazy blue light under a full moon (don’t confuse it with “Forever and for Always” — that’s a different beach vibe). The song is one of the many, many singles from 1997’s Come On Over, her biggest album that now hits millennials with pangs of nostalgia. Case in point: Christian Lee Hutson just dropped a cover of “You’re Still the One” with Julia Jacklin, and it’s excellent.

If you're one to lust after your celebrity crushes, Vanessa Carlton can relate. The three-time Grammy nominee seems to have taken her "crush" to the next level, because she revealed that her 2002 song "A Thousand Miles" isn't about someone she dated Irl. It's actually about a "famous actor" that may not have even known she existed at the time. In an interview with Vice on April 11, Vanessa shared, "The song is about a crush I had on a Juilliard student." However, she explained that it was very one-sided: "I would never talk to this person. I was very shy. I was like, 'There's just no way on God's creation that this...

If you’re wondering where Vanessa Carlton went to then you might want to look to Broadway since she made her debut earlier in the year back in May. A lot of people still remember her for the hit song A Thousand Miles, but from there one would have to be an avid and dedicated fan to really follow her career since things didn’t exactly turn up to eleven any longer once that song was over and done with. She’s managed to hang on with her career throughout the years, but she hasn’t really ever reached the same level of stardom

We laughed! We cried! We audibly gasped at the sight of Vanessa Carlton! Hosted by a fully committed James Corden, Sunday’s Tony Awards broadcast was truly a gift unto us all.
The three-hour event was exactly what the Tonys should always be: a joyous celebration of musical theatre and the inspiring, diverse community that makes Broadway happen. And this year’s ceremony gave us no shortage of uplifting moments, from Ali Stroker’s beautiful words for theatrical hopefuls dealing with disabilities to Andre De Shields’ long-overdue Tony recognition — though we have a feeling that Baltimore was already plenty proud of its “native son.

From the first few bars of the tune, A Thousand Miles can easily be distinguished. 2001 was a golden year for singer-songwriter Vanessa Carlton because it was the same year that her first single was released. That single would go on to be Carlton’s most popular song to date, and it’s also become one of the most popular—and arguably best songs to ever make it out of the early 2000s. The song has been covered hundreds of times, and it has made Carlton into a household name in the pop industry. Since the debut of A Thousand Miles and Carlton’s

Kelsie Hogue strolls into the Rolling Stone offices wearing a pink knit sweater adorned with cats, bright orange culottes and an oversized yellow fanny pack. Paired with her mane of neon yellow-green hair, the entire ensemble makes it look as though she’s drenched in highlighter ink. Looking closely at her sweater, one can see the tiny upside-down crosses stitched onto each of the three cats’ foreheads.
“I’m not anti- or pro-Satanic,” Hogue says, giggling, by way of explanation. “Do your thing. I’m very neutral about Satanism.”

Satirizing a genre as you’re fully embracing it isn’t the easiest feat and is perhaps impossible. It’s true that every good satire is also in some way a love letter to its source material, but love it a little too much, and the Valentine’s card becomes onion-thin with the prim bite of a paper cut. Todd Strauss-Schulson’s rom-com sendup “Isn’t It Romantic” is one of those satires that wants to have its Valentine’s chocolates and eat them too.
This story, about a woman who hits her head and is thrown into a rom-com world of cliché and improbability, may abide by the rules of the genre too closely to function as a critique, and it’s a shame, because it’s almost there. Writers Erin Cardillo, Dana Fox (“How to Be Single”) and Katie Silberman (“Set It Up”) hold back from really making a statement,...

As twin sisters, Chandra and Leigh Watson have shared nearly everything, from their hair color to the stages where they’ve sung in close harmony. But despite performing as a duo for more than 20 years, the Watson Twins had never written songs together. “I know that sounds completely insane,” Leigh tells Rolling Stone, “but I think that for both of us growing up as twins, you have to share everything, so our songwriting was always really personal to us.”

When you think of hip-hop dancing the first song that comes to mind is obviously “A Thousand Miles” by Vanessa Carlton … Wait, you mean it’s not the song you think of? Well it is now. During the Cut round on “World of Dance” the hip-hop troupe Poreotics found funk in the most unlikely of places. Watch their unique and innovative performance above.
Poreotics had a lot to prove coming into the Cut. Their Qualifying round scored an 88. But their Duels performance was a bit of a step back for them. They won with a modest score of 87.7, and judge Derek Hough told them that their routine took so long to get to the good stuff in the middle that it was like a “jelly doughnut.”

It’s been nearly 15 years since Elliott Smith — one of the most influential singer-songwriters to emerge from the 1990s indie-rock boom — passed away in an apparent although mysterious suicide. He released just five albums during his life but most of them are great, and these days every time one hears a hushed, haunting singer-songwriter performing beautiful and incisive songs as if they were embarrassed by them, it’s hard not to note Smith’s influence on that artist..
Vanessa Carlton is a formidable artist herself — and a formidable person as well, as evidenced by her contribution to the harrowing recent New York Times accounts of victims of high-profile sexual harassers. After training as a ballet dancer, she pursued a career as a singer-songwriter and met mainstream success in the early 2000s, but has since embraced the indie route full force, releasing her most recent album “Liberman” in 2015. As the #MeToo movement took hold and increasing numbers of people spoke out about abuse from famous and powerful men ranging from Harvey Weinstein and Bill O’Reilly to Russell Simmons and L.A. Reid, few of them have spoken about what happened after they named their alleged abusers. Today, the New York Times published an emotionally harrowing article in which 20 of those accusers talked about the aftermath — how people treated them, how they felt and what their careers have been like since. They range from actors Gwyneth Paltrow and Ashley Judd to comparatively lesser-known people, and from the music industry, executive Drew Dixon, singer Tina Baker, singer-songwriter Vanessa Carlton, journalist-promoter Toni Sallie and bassist Chris Brown spoke about the aftermath of their accusations against Def Jam Records/Rush Management founder Russell Simmons, former Epic Records chief L.A. Reid, as well as ballet master Peter Martins and conductor James Levine.

Chord Overstreet has sung Justin Bieber, Michael Jackson and even Vanessa Carlton – but now he’s ready for fans to hear his own lyrics.
The Glee alum is hard at work on his first full-length solo album, and though he’s now confident in his talent, Overstreet admits he was once a shy performer – and credits the series with turning things around.
“I was still afraid to sing in front of people before Glee,” he tells People in this week’s issue. “I got really nervous when I did my audition , my leg wouldn’t stop shaking when I was singing.

Kellyanne Conway was photographed kneeling on an Oval Office couch and browsing her phone while President Donald Trump met with leaders of historically black colleges and universities on Monday.
Social media was in an uproar with reaction posts and memes as some voiced their opinion that the White House senior adviser was being disrespectful, not only because she had her feet on the furniture but also due to the context of Trump’s meeting.

Dawes returned with their fifth studio album, the spectacularly named We’re All Gonna Die, last September. The set scaled the Folk Albums Charts as the group launched their 50-date tour and now the group is ready to drop their newest video. On Wednesday, EW premiered the clip for “Roll With The Punches,” starring Mandy Moore, This Is Us actress and girlfriend of frontman Taylor Goldsmith.
The clip follows the dissolution of a relationship and for Goldsmith, who is not actually breaking up with Moore, the acting was harder than he maybe anticipated.

New York Knicks player Carmelo Anthony may have just ousted McKayla Maroney as the most unimpressed member of Team USA. Four years after the gymnastics champ's stoic face on the silver medal podium became a worldwide meme, Anthony is upholding the tradition of unimpressed Olympic athletes - albeit for a very different reason. Ever wonder what the United States men's basketball team does in the days leading up to the Summer Olympic Games? Sing along to Vanessa Carlton, obviously. Less than one week until competitions kick off in Rio, Jimmy Butler, Kyrie Irving and other teammates documented their plane ride where one song really got them moving, shaking and singing. Turn up the volume because "A Thousand Miles" is about to begin! "Cause I need you / And I miss you / And know I wonder," the group is seen singing. "If I could fall into the sky /Do you think time would pass me by. Cause you know I'd walk a thousand miles / If I could just see you tonight." While plenty of the...

Long-awaited sequels to early 2000s comedies have been springing up left and right lately. So why not "White Chicks," too?
That was apparently the thinking behind Marlon Wayans's recent Instagram post, where he made a mock-up of a potential poster for "White Chicks 2," and asked fans if they were interested in a sequel to the 2004 comedy. The comedian said that if the photo got 300,000 likes, he'd consider making the follow-up his next project.

Stephen Merchant wasn't afraid to play dirty when he faced off against Malin Akerman on Thursday's episode of Lip Sync Battle. After Malin gave an amazing performance of Jason Derulo's "Talk Dirty," Stephen took things a step further when he channeled the original dirty girl herself, Christina Aguilera. Donning leather chaps and a tank top featuring the British flag, Stephen made his grand entrance in a cage surrounded by women. He then began thrusting his hips and impressively singing Christina's 2002 hit "Dirrty" almost word for word. Watch the hilarious battle above, then check out Terry Crews delicately singing "A Thousand Miles" by Vanessa Carlton.
