The Drama League today announced the nominations for the 2023 Drama League Awards. Honoring achievements on and Off-Broadway, the nominations were announced this morning by Roger Bart (“Back to the Future: The Musical”) and Justin Guarini (“Once Upon A One More Time”) at the New York Library for the Performing Arts. Winners will be revealed at the 89th Annual Drama League Awards ceremony at the Ziegfeld Ballroom on Friday, May 19, 2023.
“I don’t think I’ve experienced a theater season in New York ever like this one,” noted Artistic Director Gabriel Stelian-Shanks. “There’s been a range, a breadth, an expansion of possibility that has been truly astonishing to witness. Theater makers have inspired not only with their creativity, but also with their drive and determination to serve audiences with vision and talent. These nominees reflect the promise and greatness inherent in the work of theater folk, and I can’t help but be deeply proud.

From a very young age, I was always told that first impressions are the fundamental step in showcasing yourself as a person. Whether you are at a job interview or meeting new colleagues etc then making sure you portray yourself in a positive light is vital and the ideas formed from this first meeting are very difficult to change after the fact! This is why I believe that many of the queens on Ru Paul’s Drag Race become obsessed with making sure that their entrance look and line are the perfect embodiment of who they are as this might be the first time the audience have seen them (it is also an opportunity to advertise yourself to potential customers in the future!) Nobody embodied this idea more in last week’s premiere episode of Ru Paul’s Drag Race UK than Black Peppa, who pulled out a challenge winning splits during...

Happy birthday, St. Julien!
Southern Charm star Kathryn C. Dennis celebrated her baby boy turning 2 with a sweet Instagram video featuring her son and her 3-year-old daughter Kensie blowing out his birthday candles together.
In the video, Dennis, and a man who’s presumably ex Thomas Ravenel, with whom Dennis previously had a contentious custody battle with, sing “Happy Birthday” before figuring out the logistics of how their son was going to blow out his candles.
Enlisting the help of St. Julien’s older sister, the two children blow out his birthday candles together, as Dennis asks her son if he made a wish.

Ryan Gosling showcased some sweet dance moves in La La Land and as many of his fans are well aware, he has been a dance master since he was a little kid. The 36-year-old star was put into an awkward situation on The Graham Norton Show. During his interview, which also featured his La La Land co-star Emma Stone and Live by Night stars Ben Affleck and Sienna Miller, a particularly spectacular video of a young Gosling performing was screened. The clip, which shows him and several girls dancing to a remix of Cathy Dennis' 1990 pop hit "Touch Me (All Night Long)" at a talent show, had gone viral in 2015. The actor later parodied it...

It's no secret that a pop star's biggest hit may not have been written by them, a tradition that's probably as old as recorded music at this point. But when you start getting into the upper echelons of sending a song around to be recorded, you have no idea where it's going to end up. A writer might intend a song for one artist, and thanks to the vagaries of the music industry, it could wind up with someone completely different. Below are nine such examples. 'We Can't Stop' Miley Cyrus' Bangerz hit was originally written for Rihanna, Mike WiLL Made-It told MTV News.

You already understand "Clipped." It's a multicamera sitcom set in a Boston barbershop called Buzzy's. There are rowdy characters, thoughtful characters, weird characters. A guy named Buzzy (George Wendt) runs the place. Big accents. Romantic squabbles. Every punctuation mark is a guffaw cue. You get it. But when I visited the set of TBS' new sitcom created by "Will & Grace" alums Max Mutchnick and David Kohan, I realized there's actually a lot more going on here. While George Wendt insisted -- sheepishly -- that his new character is basically a gay version of Norm from "Cheers" (with no added denotational hand gestures of "gayness"; Wendt says Mutchnick put the kibosh on his attempts to seem more effeminate), "Clipped" gives Wendt a chance to play den father to young improv-trained talents, a natural fit for the onetime Second City star. Check out the glitzy set where he gets to show off his comic and tonsorial chops.

The singer, who has remained close friends with the music manager ever since they dated in the '80s, admitted that she is uncertain about Mel B and Cheryl Fernandez-Versini's futures on the show... Would you be happy to see them go?
Speaking to Digital Spy and others at the British Lgbt Awards, Sinitta said: "I don't know (if they'll be back), because Simon has said he really wants to switch things up and changing the panel is part of his plan."
She added that rumoured replacement judge, One Direction star Louis Tomlinson, would be an "amazing" addition to the show.

Do you know what time it is? It’s time to feel terrible. Why? Because I can’t believe I even dared to critique past guest-judges Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Christina Applegate for their cloying or uninformed commentary when this week’s guest judge, teensy pop phenom Carly Rae Jepsen, swept in on a cloud of bangs and ignorance and offered precisely zero insight to the remaining 16 competing dancers. I’m not saying Carly Rae Jepsen should be an erudite dance critic, but I am suggesting she could at least pretend there’s a good reason she’s sitting alongside real judges. Because to my knowledge, Crj is not a dancer or a “dance enthusiast” (like Minnie Driver during the audition rounds). She is apparently just a dance tolerator, which would explain why she was satisfied dropping soundbites like ”That was really great” or “That was great.” Does this take...

London, Jan 1: Kylie Minogue's hit single 'Can't Get You Out Of My Head' topped the tune of the Noughties on Saturday.
The song bagged the maximum votes in a poll of the most-played songs of the past decade, the Mirror reported.
The track had originally been turned down by both S Club 7 and Sophie Ellis-Bextor before Kylie used it.
Britney Spears' Toxic came close second in the survey by Prs (Performing Right Society) For Music, the UK's association of composers, songwriters and music publishers.
The lyrics for both the songs were penned by Cathy Dennis, who worked with Robert Davis on 'Can't Get You.

This week’s X Factor theme was confirmed by Yvie Burnett on yesterday’s F Factor episode. On Saturday night the contestants will be singing ‘American Anthems.’
It’s another wide theme, meaning that the judges can choose almost any song, from any genre of music. Many viewers have been criticising the vague guidelines each week, however we think it works well with singers as diverse as Treyc Cohen, Wagner Carillho and Cher Lloyd.
Check out the songlist below. This will be updated and added to as more information comes in.
Wagner Carillho: Elvis Presley…..Viva Las Vegas – Zoe Griffin heard him rehearse his dance routine to the tune repeatedly, in Covent Garden’s Nuffield Health Gym yesterday. Louis Walsh was on TV3 this evening and admitted that he wants Wagner to perform in an sparkly Elvis jumpsuit!

The Australian hitmaker is poised to released her eleventh studio album "Aphrodite" and it has been given the seal of approval by Scissor Sisters' singer Jake Shears, who reckons it instantly makes his "hands go in the air".

"The lead single sounds like a pulsing Dolly Parton electro anthem. It's got a very anthemic, beautiful quality to it and it's very uplifting."
He added, "And the last song on the album is the gayest, most loved-up track that you could be off your face and fall in love with somebody on the dancefloor too. Instantly my hands go in the air when I hear it.

Superproducer Mark Ronson is working with the Scissor Sisters and acclaimed songwriter Cathy Dennis on his next album - and has promised not to record any covers. The producer/DJ/songwriter/musician and the Allido label founder is planning to release a new album, "The Business," in May or June this year, with contributions from artists like the Scissor Sisters, Santigold, Miike Snow and dance artist Cathy Dennis, according to NME. Dave McCabe of The Zutons and Nick Hodgson of the Kaiser Chiefs are...

Heidi Montag's Superficial
Photo: Pratt Productions
Heidi Montag always dreamed of becoming a pop star like Britney Spears. For years she's been in the studio working with some of Spears' collaborators, like Cathy Dennis, who wrote "Toxic." And this week the "Hills" star released her first full-length pop album, Superficial, packed with bouncy, Auto-Tune-heavy tracks in which Heidi displays her sassy attitude.
In her music and lyrics, Heidi shows none of the vulnerability we've seen from her on TV. Instead, she's a dance princess. And in the seven tracks Montag shared with MTV News, which you can sample here, she is certainly not afraid to call out bad boyfriends, defend certain love affairs and show the world that she's the very sexy girl-next-door.

"Hills" star Heidi Montag finally released her debut album, Superficial, on Tuesday (January 12). After working on the LP for years and spending time in the studio with producers and songwriters like Cathy Dennis and Steve Morales, Montag is ready to prove she's more than just a reality-tv star.
"Today is one of the biggest days of my life. I have been working three years on this," she told MTV News. "I have spent all my money. I am literally broke because I did this independently. Most artists just go in the booth and sing the songs. For me, I had to find the song, choose the song, track it down, book the studio time. I really wanted to be a part of it every step of the way.

It's been an active couple of days for Katy Perry: She celebrated her birthday with the help of Russell Brand and Taylor Swift on Saturday (October 24), and today it's possible she celebrated the official "Amtv" premiere of "Starstruckk," the new video from 3Oh!3 that features Perry both on the song and in the clip. It's an excellent slice of jittery, dance-infused alt-pop that gets a very nice boost from Perry's presence. The whole clip revolves around a large public fountain and features a handful of slow-motion shots of busty models, but the most eye-catching female is Perry herself, who dances with the 3Oh!3 guys while wearing some sort of strange leotard, and changes into a strange pink and black dress for a frolic in the fountain herself.

Keisha Buchanan was reportedly forced out of the Sugababes because her bandmates were "jealous" of her. The 24-year-old singer - who was the last original member of the girl group - quit the band last week and it has now been claimed she felt she had to leave because of the way Heidi Range and Amelle Berrabah were treating her. The pair are said to have been envious of Keisha, 24, because she was the only member allowed to co-write their songs. A source told Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper: "The girls were jealous as Keisha would meet up with writers, including Cathy Dennis, without them to create some of their biggest hits. "When they had meetings with their management...

Ryan Seacrest said it best at the top of the show: Tuesday night's (May 19) final "American Idol" performance episode was the decisive showdown between "the acoustic rocker versus the glam rocker ... Conway versus California ... the guy next door versus the guyliner."
And when Adam Lambert and Kris Allen came down the center stairs, the difference couldn't have been clearer. Lambert was rocking a black leather jacket, tight black jeans, black fingerless gloves and a black shirt accented by a long silver scarf-looking necklace, while Allen went the James Dean route with a more modestly cut black leather jacket, blue jeans and a white T-shirt.
With three songs each, Lambert, 27, opened the night reprising his acclaimed cover of Tears for Fears' "Mad World." Looking comfortable on a fog-enshrouded stage that must have...
