Two days before his death, Jimi Hendrix simply wanted to jam. His buddy Eric Burdon, the former Animals frontman, had recently teamed up with Latin-influenced rock band War, who were playing some of their first concerts together. When the group began a residency at London jazz club Ronnie Scott’s, Burdon invited Hendrix to sit in. The artist showed up on the evening of Sept. 16, 1970 for the second set, and played moving, dramatic phrases all across the ensemble’s covers of blues and folk standards “Mother Earth” and “Tobacco Road,...

Outrage toward Sony didn’t reside only in Hollywood Wednesday, as DC heavyweights also lashed out at the movie studio for canceling “The Interview.”

Newt Gingrich, who self-labeled himself an American historian during his 2012 presidential run, marked Sony caving as a historic first in American history.

We’ve all seen – and heard- Kevin Smith’s countless Star Wars Universe references throughout his many movies, so it’s no surprise that the bearded former Silent Bob has had a few things to say about the recent Walt Disney- George Lucas – Star Wars love triangle.
In a recent guest editorial for The Hollywood Reporter, Smith penned a touching look at what it was like to be a Star Wars fan the first time around, before they couldn’t be watched whenever we wanted to watch them, before they were available on even VHS.
“Every summer day from 1978 to 1982, you could find me and Pete in his tiny yard, building a new Hoth or Tatooine, brushing ants off our bodies as we laid belly down in the dirt, making Luke Skywalker repeatedly kiss a girl who turned out to be his sister right before they swing from dental floss...

It's no secret that director Kevin Smith is a huge fan of Star Wars, and like many of us, he was crazy excited to hear that Disney bought Lucasfilm and that we would be getting more Star Wars movies. Smith wrote an open letter to Disney that was published at THR called My Prayer for Star Wars.
He explains what it was like for him growing up with Star Wars, playing with the toys, and creating his own Star Wars adventures with his best friend Pete. The article revolves around his childhood friendship with Pete, which was built on their love of Star Wars. That moves into talking about Boba Fett, one of our favorite Star Wars characters,
With no access to the actual Star Wars films until the Vcr was made affordable to the average consumer, we'd create our own Star Wars adventures. The best story (and the only...

U.S. officials have launched an investigation into reports suggesting Oscar-winning moviemaker Kathryn Bigelow and her screenwriter partner Mark Boal received classified information while they were researching their new Osama Bin Laden film.
Hours after Warrior star Joel Edgerton was confirmed as the new film's leading man, America's deputy inspector general for intelligence and special programme assessments, Patricia A. Brannin, revealed an investigation was underway following concerns raised last year by New York politician Pete King.
King raised the issue in August after reading an article about Bigelow and Boal in the New York Times, in which columnist Maureen Dowd suggested the pair was given access to "top-level access to the most classified mission in history".
In a statement obtained by the Los Angeles Times, King writes, "The leaks that followed the successful Bin Laden mission led to the arrests of Pakistanis and put in danger the mission’s heroes and their families.
"Privately, individuals in the intelligence and special operations communities expressed support for my request for a probe. I look forward to an update on the investigation and actions taken thus far."
When King first raised the issue in August, White House spokesman Jay Carney called his claims "ridiculous", stating, "We do not discuss classified information."
Executives at Sony, the film company behind Bigelow's new Bin Laden film, have yet to respond. The movie is scheduled for a December, 2012 release.

A column by Maureen Down in the Sunday New York Times that mentioned how President Obama and his administration was cooperating with director Kathryn Bigelow and her The Hurt Locker writer Mark Boal on their Navy Seal Team 6 drama led to a Republican congressman asking for an investigation into the relationship between the White House and the filmmakers. Variety reported today that Rep. Pete King (R-n.Y.), the chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, sent a letter to the Department of Defense and the CIA’s Inspectors general, calling for an investigation. Bigelow and Boal quickly responded with a statement denying any special treatment. “Our upcoming film integrates the collective efforts of three administrations, including those of Presidents Clinton, Bush and Obama, as well as the cooperative strategies and implementation by the Department of Defense and Central Intelligence Agency.”...

Today marks the commencement of Representative Pete King’s sure-to-backfire congressional hearings on the “homegrown radicalization” of Muslim citizens. The purpose of the hearings is, naturally, “to protect America from a terrorist attack,” according to the myopic New York Republican who serves as the chair of the House’s Homeland Security Committee. How are things going so far? This morning saw the testimony of Representative Keith Ellison (D-mi), a Muslim, who “broke down into tears by the end of his statement.” And, as The Washington Post reports, “[t]he committee's ranking Democrat, Bennie Thompson (Miss.), gave a statement after King, saying that he worried the hearing could be used by terrorist recruiters to show that America is hostile to Muslims generally.” Plus, last weekend, 500 people protested against King’s initiative in Times Square.

This time last year, most of us had never heard of an exotic moon called Pandora, let alone glimpsed the peace-loving Na'vi people who live there.
Just months after its December release, those blue aliens won director James Cameron's Avatar three Oscars, and bumped his 1997 movie Titanic off the top spot as the highest-grossing film of all time, raking in an awe-inspiring $2.7 billion worldwide to date.
Combining live action and ground-breaking digital effects, the epic 155-minute film was ten years in the making and has turned 2010 into the year of the 3D movie, with studios keen to hang on to its coat-tails and get a slice of its otherworldly success.
While Avatar, a love story about a man who falls for a Na'vi and sides with her in a battle for a lucrative resource, certainly has its detractors, its impact on modern culture and the future of cinema cannot be denied.

Former NYC top cop, former 9/11 hero Bernie Kerik turns himself in May 17. He wasn't looking for a party but a pack of his friends wanted to say goodbye and to say a few words. Columnist Dick Morris, first on his feet, said this shouldn't be happening to Bernie, as opposed to when he (Dick) went "away." "Mine," he said, was because I deserved it. I was guilty." Rep. Pete King called Bernie "a stand-up guy." I don't remember what Geraldo said. Doesn't matter, he looked great. Off to a side Caroline Manzo,...

Fox News is so, so excited about a possible connection between South Park’s Muhammad-parody episode and the Times Square car bomb. The idea first originated in the wondrous imagination of Congressman Pete King (R-ny), who suggested on CNN on Sunday, “It's one possibility out of 100, but this vehicle was close to a Viacom building, which owns MTV and Comedy Central.” New York Police Department Commissioner Ray Kelly said that “no connection had been established,” but this does not change the irrefutable fact of substantiated evidence that both the car bomb and the Viacom building are located at 45th and Broadway.
