I was lucky enough to witness a goose-bump inducing show recently when I watched the live performance of Demon Slayer: The Stage . Based on the manga, Demon Slayer: The Stage is a 2.5 Dimensional theatrical presentation of the series. This type of performance blends the 2D artform of manga, anime, and games with the 3D realm of theater. While in recent years more live-action films based on anime have made their way to audiences outside of Japan, 2.5 musical adaptations sadly have not. The International Cinematographers Guild (IATSE Local 600) will honor two of its own during its 25th annual Emerging Cinematographer Awards.
Cinematographer and director Janusz Kamiński — who won Oscars for lensing his longtime collaborator Steven Spielberg’s films Schindler’s List and Saving Private Ryan — will be honored with the Panavision-presented Distinguished Filmmaker Award; and cinematographer Stephen Lighthill, a past president of the American Society of Cinematographers, will accept the ASC Mentor Award.
Lighthill is currently Head of Discipline: Cinematography at the AFI Conservatory. He began his career shooting network news and documentaries, including the Oscar-nominated documentary Berkeley, Gimme Shelter and CBS 60 Minutes. His credits include HBO’s Vietnam War Story and CBS’ Nash Bridges.

Sabbatical Entertainment Sets Distribution Partnership With V Channels Media
Miami-based production company Sabbatical Entertainment has set a two-year distribution partnership with V Channels Media. As part of the deal, Sabbatical will distribute 50 V Channel documentaries that explore extraterrestrial life. The deal includes Fast channel rights and Linear Over-the-Air Television rights. V Channels will continue to distribute the titles on their YouTube network of channels. “V Channels is focused on the analysis of big data that we collect via our YouTube network. Alien documentaries are some of the highest searched documentaries within our international network, and our commitment is to produce content to engage our users across the globe,” said V Channels CEO Niccolo Messina.
