New Delhi, May 1 (Ians) Long-term air pollution has now been found to be associated with an increased risk of arrhythmia or irregular heartbeat, researchers report.
Air pollution is a modifiable risk factor for heart disease, but the evidence linking it with arrhythmia has been inconsistent to date.
To determine whether there is a link, Chinese researchers evaluated hourly exposure to air pollution and the sudden onset of symptoms of arrhythmia using data from 2025 hospitals in 322 Chinese cities.
Air pollution in China is well above the World Health Organisation’s guidelines for air quality, and the researchers conducted their analyses using air pollutant concentrations from monitoring stations closest to the reporting hospitals.
“We found that acute exposure to ambient air pollution was associated with increased risk of symptomatic arrhythmia,” said Dr Renjie Chen, School of Public Health, Fudan University, Shanghai, China.
The risks occurred during the first several hours after exposure and could persist for 24 hours.

Hachiko is one of the most famous canines of the 20th century. He was given a generous entrance in Wikipedia and a number of articles and books dedicated to his loyalty to his best friend Hidesaburo Ueno, a professor at the Tokyo Imperial University. The first movie about “the most loyal dog in the history” was shot in Hachiko's homeland Japan in 1925 by Kiyoshi Masomoto, followed by three other films in the 1930s, but the most famous version came up in 1987 penned by Kaneto Shindo, and directed by Seijiro Koyama. Its success led to Lasse Hallström's Hollywood adaptation “Hachi: A Dog Tale” (2009) starring Richard Gere which on the one side garnered mixed reviews, but on the other a considerable sympathy by the audience. The tale of the white Akita dog who came to prominence by patiently waiting nine years for Hidesaburo at the train station at exact same time...

Television shows often contain plot holes that eagle-eyed fans catch, and The Rookie is certainly not immune to these mistakes. Most of the time, episodes have minor errors that can be easily forgotten. But every now and then, writers overlook major elements that completely contradict their storytelling. And unfortunately, one of Lucy Chen’s central storylines in The Rookie Season 5 contains a significant plot hole.

After Lucy was promoted to Police Officer II in The Rookie Season 3, she became interested in undercover work. Nyla Harper, who previously was an undercover police officer, took Lucy under her wing and helped her with her first operation. Lucy proved to be a natural at it, much to Tim Bradford’s dismay.
Lucy went undercover again in the season 3 finale to help take down La Fiera.
