It should be one of the most famous TV casting stories out there. Two days before production began on “What We Do in the Shadows,” Harvey Guillen, now known for playing the vampires’ human servant Guillermo, wasn’t in pre-production — in fact, he hadn’t even been cast.
“It was Martin Luther King weekend, on a Sunday, and I knew they started production that Tuesday,” Guillén told IndieWire over Zoom. “I booked it on a Sunday afternoon, through Taika [Waititi] and Jemaine [Clement]. I had to call my agents and tell them that I booked it — they didn’t even call them, they called me directly and one day later I was in a fitting and the next day I was on set.”
Guillen was one of the only actors auditioned from the United States, the other being contenders for Mark Proksch’s role as energy vampire Colin Robinson. But when a...

Paramount+’s Seal Team season six episode 10 finds the team mourning the loss of one of their own. Fans are still reeling from the events of episode nine which found Clay Spenser passing away – and Max Thieriot exiting the series. Given that Thieriot’s the lead in Fire Country, Clay’s death was shocking yet not unexpected.
In an interview with TV Insider, executive producer Spencer Hudnut talked about the decision to kill off Clay.
“For a long time, I really weighed maybe he and Stella (Alona Tal) and Brian do move out to California and live that life that they talk about in this episode. But because of his traumatic injury to his leg, he has a long road ahead to recover, and because the show is so much about vet issues and what our men and women in uniform deal with when they come home, it just felt...

Ray Perry (Neil Brown Jr.) has to compartmentalize a lot in Seal Team Season 6 — including Bravo and the vet center he and his wife Naima (Parisa Fakhri) want to open — but that’s easier said than done, considering these things would usually be priority 1 … but can’t be. So far, the team is dealing with the aftermath of Clay (Max Thieriot) losing his leg and leaving Bravo (for now?), as well as Jason (David Boreanaz) and his Tbi (he’s getting treatments), and now they might be the ones decommissioned because that rumor? Not just a rumor. Brown Jr. takes us inside Ray’s head and teases what’s ahead. How’s Ray feeling about Bravo right now? Sonny (Aj Buckley) said Bravo isn’t Bravo without Clay, but they have to be. And at least Trent’s (Tyler Grey) back. Neil Brown Jr.: I think he has an overall positive outlook,...

What We Do in the Shadows Season 4 Episode 9
While not quite achingly funny, What We Do in the Shadows’ season 4 episode 9, is about growing pains. “Freddie” is a sad, and somewhat cruel installment in the Staten Island vampire saga. We finally learn who Guillermo (Harvey Guillén) has been covertly sharing stolen moments of cell phone intimacy with, but it brings double the trouble. While a certain freakish draw to Nadja’s (Natasia Demetriou) vampire club Nadja’s wants an increase in pay but grows in size instead.
Nadja’s is so swarming with guests, a denim cape doesn’t cut it at the velvet rope. The vampire club and its resident creepy performer have gotten on the radar of human celebrity guests. Fran Liebowitz is on an upcoming guest list because “she says what we’re all thinking,” according to Nadja,...

What We Do in the Shadows Season 4 Episode 8
After straying from the core mockumentary premise of the series, What We Do in the Shadows’ season 4 episode 8, “Go Flip Yourself,” doubles down on it as the worlds of vampire reality TV and human home improvement collide. This union has been a long time coming, as Laszlo (Matt Berry) is quite the fan of flipping shows, and the titular fixer-upper program is his long-time obsession. He has also proven himself to be a sucker for general contractors, and not always in a good, vampire, way.
Toby (Jason Sklar) and Bran Daltry (Randy Sklar) have seen the “worst of the worst” in home renovations, and the vampires’ “Mixed Up Mansion” on Staten Island promises to be their “toughest yet.” This isn’t just a sales ploy to upsell the “Superfan!” Laszlo Cravensworth. He’s seen every episode,...

What We Do in the Shadows Season 4 Episode 6
Speak now, because you’ll be holding your peace for the duration of What We Do in the Shadows’ “The Wedding,” if Laszlo (Matt Berry) has anything to say about it. Nandor the Relentless (Kayvan Novak) is living up to his name. The once-living and still blood-thirsty medieval warlord will stop at nothing to procure the perfect wedding, and sees only treachery and betrayal in its path. His campaign is almost Shakespearean in its tragic comedy, and plays out well for the groundlings.
The quest for the perfect mix of matrimonial makings grinds the Best Man, Guillermo (Harvey Guillén), magnificently under its weight. The former-familiar now bodyguard-and-embezzling-bookkeeper bottles more conflicting emotions and anguish than a Djinn’s (Anoop Desaigenie) lamp could contain, so when Guillermo cracks in his first onscreen appearance, it is a wish fulfilled.

What We Do in the Shadows Season 4 Episode 4
It is an agonizing pleasure to see the Staten Island vampires mingle with others who are not quite of their sort, but different nonetheless. What We Do in the Shadows season 4 episode 4, “The Night Market,” benefits from the change of scenery and the creative creatures who mingle after hours.
Against all odds, the vampire club Nadja (Natasia Demetriou) opened in “The Grand Opening,” is doing remarkably well. Especially considering its main act is a creepy tap-dancing energy vampire child, and only four out of five club fatalities are human. This moves What We Do in the Shadows once again into workplace comedy territory, and there is a serious problem in personnel.

What We Do in the Shadows Season 4 Episode 3
What We Do in the Shadows season 4 episode 3, “The Grand Opening,” opens with great promise. Nadja (Natasia Demetriou) is beside herself with excitement, she’s even wearing matching red hats. The line to get into her new vampire nightclub, Nadja’s, stretches around the block. She’s booked the most famous vampire DJ, Richie Suck (Affion Crockett), as the premiere act.
“Gonna bust loose, on the club roof, drinking ‘Throat Juice,’” Nadja intones, relishing the lyrics of his biggest hit in anticipation of the club’s debut. The exquisite agony of expectation is high. There are so many things which can go wrong, what will tumble first?
In “Reunion,” Nadja bemoaned about how the International Vampiric Council belittled her brilliant bloodsucking cash scheme as amateurish and clichéd. The condensation of her short...

I'll start off by saying that I think it's hard to beat a well crafted ensemble piece that features a talented cast. And does Good Night ever feature a talented cast. If the names Todd Berger, Alex Karpovsky, Jason Newman and Chris Doubek don't mean anything to you, you haven't been paying adequate attention. Get those four together on (or off) screen and you can be guaranteed good things are going to happen. And there's not a shabby performance to be found here, with actors previously unknown to me (Samantha Thomson, Laura Clifton, Parisa Fakhri, Elizabeth Riley and Jeff Benson) all giving top notch performances.
