Dean Budnick is the director of Wetlands Preserved: The Story of An Activist Rock Club, which opened nationally before airing on the Sundance Channel. Budnick, the editor-in-chief of Relix magazine, holds a Ph.D. from Harvard's History of American Civilization program where he wrote his doctoral dissertation on the career and legal trials of silent screen star Roscoe "Fatty" Arbuckle. He is the co-author of Peter Shapiro's The Music Never Stops: What Putting on 10,000 Shows Has Taught Me About Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Magic (Hachette, 2022) and John Popper's autobiography, Suck and Blow (Da Capo, 2016). His other books include Ticket Masters: The Rise of the Concert Industry and How the Public Got Scalped (Plume 2011, ECW 2010), Jambands: A Complete Guide to the Players Music and Scene (Backbeat Books, 2004) and the novel Might As Well (Rare Bird Books, 2016). Budnick has reported on the live entertainment industry for Billboard, Variety and The Hollywood Reporter. He is the creator and host of the Long May They Run podcast, which reached #1 on the Apple Music Podcast charts.
