After twenty years of sold out Christmas tours and five celebrated holiday albums within as many years, saxophonist Dave Koz has done his share – and then some – to help to make the season bright.
Dave Koz and Friends 20th Anniversary Christmas
This year he has reassembled his original holiday lineup – pianist David Benoit, trumpeter Rick Braun and acoustic guitarist Peter White – for the making of Dave Koz and Friends 20th Anniversary Christmas, an album that features brand new recordings of classic Christmas songs.
The September 29, 2017, release of Dave Koz and Friends 20th Anniversary Christmas on Concord Records sets the stage for Koz and this same lineup to go back on the road in late November for the 2017 holiday season.
“If you had asked me twenty years ago, I would never in a million years believed that we’d be doing Christmas tours two decades later,” says Koz. “But here we are,...

They’ve come a long way from “MMMBop” — and “MMMBop” wasn’t even close to their genesis.
In truth, Isaac, Taylor and Zac Hanson formed their band in 1992, when youngest member Zac (who is actually the third born of seven children) was only 6 years old. So while 2017 may mark 20 years of loyalty even for the most dedicated of Fansons — who first became acquainted with the towheaded brothers over the summer of 1997 during the time of their breakout album Middle of Nowhere and subsequent sold-out arena concerts, Saturday Night Live appearance, Christmas album and adorable Eggo commercial — for Hanson, it’s...

You could argue that most folks – or at least those who'd care enough to nab tickets to a documentary about the Grateful Dead – already know the band's story backwards and forwards. They can tell you that Jerry Garcia started out as a boho banjo player in a jug band, and that he enlisted avant-composer Phil Lesh, fresh-faced folkie Bob Weir, blues aficionado Ron "Pigpen" McKernan and drummer Bill Kreutzmann to form a band. They'll tell you about the acid tests and becoming the San Francisco scene's poster boys. They'll chart...

The first twelve or so minutes of this episode of Selfie is pretty predictable comedy set-up: it’s Henry’s birthday, and he doesn’t like gifts, so Eliza decides to get him a gift. Hilarity ensues, and Henry ends up at a Blues Traveler concert while Eliza organizes a surprise birthday party at Henry’s house – from beginning to almost-the-end, “Traumatic Party Stress Disorder” is average comedic far, heightened with Selfie‘s penchant for great dialogue… but nothing special or memorable, traits one could also apply to the last few, much better, minutes without much argument for me. However, how those final minutes are framed, and how it gives depth to a completely unecessary and clearly short-lived character in the process, make “Traumatic” a better episode than one of this kind really has any right to be – which in the end, is disappointing, since Selfie‘s been canceled and...

One of the most beloved routines from Jimmy Fallon's Tonight Show reign is about to get its own television show: Lip Sync Battle, based on those ridiculous competitions that pit the late night host up against celebrities to see who can pantomime pop songs better, will head to Spike TV in 2015. Fallon and actors John Krasinski and Stephen Merchant, a pair of lip sync vets, will executive produce the show as well as appear and "perform" on occasion.

While much of the talk surrounding the announcement of the 2014 Emmy nominations focused on bigger-picture issues (snubs both critical and fan-enraging, the historical impact of a Simpsons omission, and so on), the year leading up to Thursday’s roll call was actually made up of many smaller flashes of brilliance on the small screen.

The self-titled Ep by EdTang & The Chops isn’t dissimilar from their previous release, which had one of the most absurd names ever, Goodbye, Zen5, Sushi Dinner. That album was just fantastic, but this time around, the guys seem to have an even more folksy sound going on. If you’re into grungy-sounding folk-rock, you’re in luck.
“When Death Should Find Us” is a strong single, with lead singer EdTang’s gritty vocals driving it. I could listen to this guy every night, honestly. I can’t imagine a better voice for my generation than EdTang. He’s got soul, but more importantly, he’s got that grit that reminds me of Mike Ness without the obnoxiousness. He’s smoother than Ness, in fact. “When Death Should Find Us” has a kind-of Rembrandts meets Blues Traveler quality to it, which I like a lot.

Close your eyes and imagine a simpler time. 20 years ago, when there were only 60 channels on cable TV and no such thing as an iPhone, or an iPad, or an iAnything. It's the Summer of 1994, emojis are an unknown entity, and Butterfinger BBs are plentiful. Sheryl Crow is spinning on your walkman, and life is good. Progress is important. Over the past 20 years, countless inventions and ideas have come to fruition and gone on to change our daily lives for the better. But there's also nothing wrong with indulging in a little nostalgia. Will we ever know if Mulder and Scully got together? In real life, David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson have been teasing us for years, after Andersons 2012 divorce. Last year, they were holding hands all throughout the NY Comic Con and they’ve been photographed together being lovey dovey. This week, they flirted through tweets, leading us to forever speculate if the two of them love each other. We wonder if the Smoking Man is in on this.

It has come to my attention that the heterosexual community is inviting itself to participate in lip-sync competitions on national television. "The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon" has featured spirited lip-sync battles with a number of celebrities, and they're often quite good. Quite enchanting! In fact, it's time for us to sort through Jimmy's combatants and pick out the king/queen of his lip-syncing galas. I'm exempting Jimmy since he has five times the experience of his competitors. First of all, before we begin, here is what a real lip-sync competition looks like. If you're not watching "RuPaul's Drag Race," you're really missing cutting-edge work in the lip-syncing medium: So there. Anyway: On we go to ranking the top five. 5. His games with guests are legendary and Jimmy Fallon welcomed Emma Stone for a friendly round of Lip Synch Challenge on “The Tonight Show” last night (April 28).
The “Amazing Spider-Man 2” cutie looked on as Fallon performed Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy” to perfection before taking the stage herself for a spirited rendition of Blues Traveler’s “Hook.”
However, Jimmy’s version of “Mr. Roboto” was no match for Emma’s infectious performance of DJ Khaled’s “All I Do Is Win,” and she ended up getting crowned the winner.
Meanwhile, Ms. Stone confessed she’s been poking around the internet lately, looking at a few unlikely websites. "Lately I'm checking out some young mom blogs. Here's how it happened…There are people blogging about pretty much everything, but there women in my age range that are mothers. I can't even get my life together enough to put furniture in an apartment.

The rules of The Tonight Show Lip Sync battle are simple: Two competitors enter, one invariably makes Jimmy Fallon lose his mind. While Fallon pulled out all the stops as usual, opening with a grandiose interpretation of Iggy Azalea's "Fancy," Emma Stone's ice cold lip sync of Blues Traveler's "Hook" — delivered with the deliberate, determined motions of a proven diva — left the Tonight Show host quaking in his boots and admitting, "I forgot all about that song!"

Sioux Falls, S.D. — Amid rumors of another "Tonight" show shake-up, comedian George Lopez says he has no desire to return to the late-night talk show scene.

Despite oft-overlapping acts, massive music festivals have a tendency to always reflect their surroundings. No matter if Coachella is being headlined by a holographic Tupac or a bill brimming with early-90s Britpop nostalgia, the festival is always going to to feel like an outgrowth of Los Angeles--and be very different from Chicago's Lollapalooza.

It takes a deranged mind to be this fascinated with psychopaths, let alone seven of them. Colin Farrell’s Marty gets to quite literally take his work home with him, a screenwriter whose Bff, the aptly named Billy Bickle (Sam Rockwell) – perhaps the son of Taxi Driver’s Travis Bickle – is in on a dognapping scheme with Hans (Christopher Walken). They snatch the wrong Shih Tzu off of Sharice (Gabourey Sidibe), and so begins the wild ride.

So believe him when he says it took Paul Weitz, who directed him in the 2004 film In Good Company, a while to convince him to star in his new off-Broadway play Lonely, I’m Not. The show, directed by Tripp Cullman, officially opens today at the Second Stage Theatre.

Next Wednesday (April 25), Roger Taylor and Brian May of Queen will perform in a group number with the top 6 finalists on a Queen-themed performance show. Season 5, the year of Taylor Hicks, was the last time American Idol featured Queen songs. On next Thursday’s results show, the official touring Queen tribute, The Queen Extravaganza, will perform the classic hit “Somebody to Love.” Katy Perry and season 10 alum Stefano Langone will also appear. (Listen to Langone’s new single “On A Roll,” featuring New Boyz and Rock Mafia, at RyanSecrest.com.)

Norman, Okla. – I couldn’t believe my eyes when I read that the world’s greatest party-thrower, Girl Talk, was going to be at the Opolis – a tiny venue in the college town of Norman, Oklahoma, that showcases indie acts and local bands with a capacity well below 200. This must be some kind of mistake, I thought, but just the thought of seeing such a huge act in such an intimate setting was awesome.
Turns out, Girl Talk – also known by his common name, Greg Gillis – is in the midst of a guerilla tour of sorts that is hitting up only eight college cities across the states. For the Axe One Night Only Tour 2011, Gillis is going old-school by performing secret shows in low capacity venues, announcing details of the gigs just days before show time via the Axe Facebook page (four more secret stops are scheduled for this Tuesday through Friday,...

You know a Beats Antique song when you hear it. The group has a very unique dance fusion sound that would be tricky to even emulate. Normally, I hate using the term “fusion,” but it’s necessary to describe the musical concoction that Beats Antique manages to create. A smorgasbord of varying sounds – the group funnels all of their personal music palettes together resulting in an electronic tribal sound that is ridiculously catchy. Oh, and did I mention they have a full-time belly dancer in their ranks?
I was shocked to discover that the group only consists of three members: multi-instrumentalist David Satori, percussion extraordinaire Tommy Cappel, and sultry Zoe Jakes, a mesmerizing belly dancer. Satori boasts a degree in music performance and composition from the California Institute of the Arts. Cappel is a proud grad as well with a degree in studio drumming from the iconic Berklee College of Music in Boston.

All double entendre jokes aside (and there are many of them), we couldn’t be more excited about — get this! — an upcoming reality show on Lifetime! Ever since the network did away with The Golden Girls reruns (and somehow made Project Runway boring), we haven’t paid much attention to their programming block. But that is about to change, now that they’re set to air a show about Roseanne Barr, who lives on a macadamia nut farm in Hawaii. Even the graphic for the show looks like a Nintendo game from the early nineties (that’s a good thing!). How can we not be excited for this? Roseanne is clearly both out of her mind and endlessly brilliant (and also a fully engaging point of reference for anyone who read her recent thought-provoking New York Magazine piece about being a woman in comedy). Needless to say, the only possible...

Baby boy on the way!
Tad Kinchla, bass player for the band Blues Traveler, and his wife Carrie Hill Kinchla, former CNN entertainment journalist, are expecting their first child together this summer.

Hill Kincha, 33, is currently working on baby names. “He’s got to have a sturdy name,” she explains. “The babies in Tad’s family are huge — like 10 to 12 pounders!”

Manchester, Tennessee — There was mud, rain, oppressive heat, a set by a world-beating rap superstar (Jay-z), a classic soul icon (Stevie Wonder), a former "Tonight Show" host (Conan O'Brien) and a jam-band legend (Dave Matthews Band). In other words, just another action-packed weekend at the ninth-annual Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival.
From Thursday through Sunday, more than 75,000 fans tried to escape triple-digit temperatures by tuning in to ferocious sets from Jay, a midnight mindfunk from the Flaming Lips, anthemic rock from kind-of hometown boys Kings of Leon and just about every flavor in between.
Thursday night eased travelers in with a main stage set from British trio the xx, whose trippy lighting and haunting, minimalist tunes soothed some nerves of attendees who might have sat in eight to 10 hours of traffic to...

A little something old, a little something new. That's the story at this year's Austin City Limits festival, which will take place October 8-10 at Zilker Park in Austin, Texas, and feature headlining sets from the Eagles, Muse, M.I.A., LCD Soundsystem and Phish.
Also on the 130-act roster from the same folks that bring you Chicago's Lollapalooza are the Strokes, the Flaming Lips, Spoon, Vampire Weekend, Norah Jones, Band of Horses, Monsters of Folk, Sonic Youth, the National, Broken Bells, Yeasayer, Beach House and Gaslight Anthem.

They say a well-rounded education is the key to success, and if that truly is the case, the my schooling is woefully incomplete when it comes to the subject of pop. That's why we bring you "Popology," the guide to modern radio-friendly stars as seen through the eyes of a guy who grew up on punk and metal. In case you missed previous installments, catch up with Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera and Jessica Simpson here.
In this week's installment, the Spice Girls storm the barricade.
Though every musical movement tends to have a key moment, those events are generally overblown and defined retroactively. Everybody talks about "Smells Like Teen Spirit" ushering in the grunge era, but it's not like the video premiered on MTV and everybody suddenly stopped liking Warrant. All of music didn't suddenly shift the first time Johnny Rotten snarled "God Save the Queen."

The Strokes, Arcade Fire and Phoenix also headline the August fest in Chicago.

Lady Gaga is bringing the Monster Ball to Lollapalooza this August. Hope she's packing some sunscreen.
Early Tuesday morning (April 6), organizers of the granddaddy of U.S. summer fests revealed the lineup for the 2010 edition of Lolla, and Gaga's name is atop the list, joined by fellow headliners Green Day, the recently reunited Soundgarden, the re-formed Strokes, the Arcade Fire and Phoenix.
Lollapalooza 2010 Lineup
Most of the headliners for the Chicago festival have some connection to Lollapalooza's past. Lady Gaga was a relatively unknown side-stage performer in 2007; Green Day and the Arcade Fire have both taken the stage at the fest; and Soundgarden were twice a part of the original touring version of Lolla, having played the trek in both 1992 and 1996. They have not performed together live...

With the release of their official debut album, one rock band is picking up steam.
Trainwreck, the brainchild of Tenacious D guitarist Kyle Gass, has announced plans to go on tour to promote the large-scale release of "The Wreckoning," their official studio album. The album, first available for download on music sites on December 1 and currently available for purchase on the band's Web site, will be released on March 2.
Like Tenacious D, Gass's band with actor/musician Jack Black, Trainwreck's musical repertoire provides both a hard rock beat and alternately comedic and serious lyrics. However, the band provides a different tone in their sound, with a slant toward the Southern and progressive subgenres of rock. Gass has described the group's music as "a cornucopia of rock and a five-headed hydra of pleasure." The roots for the band go back as far as 1997, and aside from opening for bands such as...

Well, it took all day, but finally, on Tuesday night (February 9), organizers revealed the full lineup for the 2010 Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival, scheduled for June 10-13 in Manchester, Tennessee.
Jay-z, Dave Matthews Band, Kings of Leon, Stevie Wonder, Weezer and Flaming Lips top the bill for this year's 'Roo, a list of more than 90 acts spanning genres and eras.
There are genuine legends (Jimmy Cliff, John Fogerty), established rock acts (the Dead Weather), hip-hop talent (Wale, Nas, Kid Cudi), electro heavyweights (LCD Soundsystem, Thievery Corporation) and bands that hearken back to the festival's earlier, decidedly jammy routes (Medeski, Martin and Wood, the Disco Biscuits), not to mention the annual WTFs (Steve Martin and the Steep Canyon Rangers, Darryl Hall with Chromeo). All in all, it's a rather jam-packed four days of music.

The connotation of a “jam band” usually gets wildly different reactions—some love 'em and others can't stand 'em. But while the label usually summons images of crunchy guitars, psychedelic noodling and long, long (and long) musical exercises, “jam band” could really mean any number of musical enterprises that prefer freeform expression over concise pop songs. South Bend's Umphrey's McGee is one such band. They get the Soundstage treatment here on a concert DVD that broadcasts a two hour show recorded in '08 and premiered on PBS on February 5, 2009. No strangers to live shows (or recordings), they've been around since 1997, have released about a half dozen live CDs and DVDs, and play an average of about a hundred shows a year. At this point, they have the finesse and craftsmanship fitting of their multi-faceted nature.
Every good setlist starts a show out on a high note, and this performance peaks early.

Multi-instrumentalist died Sunday at age 45.

Whether hunched over an acoustic guitar, a cigarette dangling from his lips, or pulsing behind a keyboard, lost in the music, Jay Bennett cut an imposing figure. During his tenure with Chicago alt-rock icons Wilco, Bennett — who died in his sleep of as-yet-undetermined causes on Saturday night at his home in Urbana, Illinois, according to his former label — often sported a ragged head of near-dreadlocked blond hair and an intense stage presence.
The singer and multi-instrumentalist was 45 and had written on his MySpace blog in April about the intense pain he still suffered from a decade-old hip injury sustained in a stage dive while playing with his previous band, Titanic Love Affair. Bennett said he was preparing to have hip-replacement surgery but was worried that his lack of health insurance might be an impediment, forcing him to sell...

Last night's American Idol elimination show proved once and for all that it is the country's premier vocal competition by featuring a centerpiece performance that was lip-synced and (Spoiler!) sending home one of the season's strongest singers in favor of the contestant who laid the biggest egg in the history of the Idol finals.
"Holy shit, did I actually just get away with that?!"
Nope, nothing wrong here!
Yeah, I'm a little sore that Allison went home last night, but she'll be fine. More than anything I'm just not looking forward to having to listen to more of Sally Jessie Gokey's Blues Traveler Lite routines and Kris Allen's Jj Casuals: Shoes That Look Like Feet arrangements, but whatever. And come on, didn't you want to go home with Allison next week and see more of her parents?...
