The success of their album "Paranoid" in the U.S. was largely by word of mouth. It sold four million copies on almost zero radio airplay.
The band got its name after seeing the film Black Sabbath (1963) (which was released
under the title of "Black Sabbath" in the UK) advertised outside a
cinema.
Their first song written with Ronnie James Dio was "Children of the Sea".
The title of their song "Heaven and Hell" was inspired by the same-titled song from The Easybeats.
According to Metallian the band has had at least four farewell tours beginning from the mid-'90s.
