Talk of Prince Harry returning to royal life in some capacity picked up when King Charles II announced his cancer diagnosis. When Kate Middleton did the same — she’s in the “early” stages of preventative chemotherapy — the royal family made it “clear” the Duke of Sussex’s not returning. How? By digitally “downgrading” Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, on the royal family’s official website, according to a commentator.
The royal family updated their website with shorter bios on Harry and Meghan prior to Kate’s cancer diagnosis announcement
The royal family did some digital housekeeping on their official website, royal.uk, shortly before Kate announced her cancer diagnosis on March 22, 2024. Harry and Meghan’s individual profiles were removed from the royal family’s website.
Information about the couple now resides in a less prominent place — read: at the bottom — in a joint section about “Members of the Royal Family.

Nell Jackson is the latest historical TV creation by Sally Wainwright, the writer-director who brought “the first modern lesbian” Anne Lister to screen in HBO/BBC series Gentleman Jack. Anne was a real-life 19th century figure who left behind thousands of diary pages for her biographers to decode. Being fictional, Nell Jackson obviously left no such legacy, but her fantastical story does cross over with real historical events and established folklore from the British Isles.
Eight-part Disney+ series Renegade Nell is set in 1705. To pinpoint the date in TV terms, that’s 100 years before Bridgerton, 200 years after The Tudors, and 40 or so years before Outlander‘s wigs-and-corsets era. Or for moviegoers, 1705 is the exact year in which Yorgos Lanthimos’ Oscar-winner The Favourite, which also featured Queen Anne, was set.

Princess Anne has long been known as the hardest-working member of the royal family who has never wavered in her support of the monarchy or her duties. Following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, she was one of the first family members to issue a statement in support of her brother when he became King Charles II.
But the Princess Royal didn’t have glowing comments when she was asked for her reaction to the birth of a future king. Here’s what cold response Anne had for reporters after Prince William was born.

Throughout Princess Diana‘s childhood, her family, the Spencers, had a longstanding relationship with the royal family. She was so close to the members of the House of Windsor that she had a loving and surprising nickname for Queen Elizabeth.
Princess Diana had a sweet nickname for Queen Elizabeth growing up
As a young girl, Princess Diana regularly interacted with the royal family. The Spencer family had been closely allied with the British royal family for several generations; her grandmothers, Cynthia Spencer, Countess Spencer, and Ruth Roche, Baroness Fermoy, had served as ladies-in-waiting to Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother.
Therefore, there was a base relationship between the Spencer family and the House of Windsor. So when she married into the royal family, Diana wasn’t as unfamiliar with their clan as history has written.

Juniper TV CEO Samir Shah is set to become the new chair of the BBC, the U.K.’s culture secretary Lucy Frazer said today.
Shah, who has worked in broadcasting for more than 40 years, will appear before the Culture, Media and Sport committee in the U.K. for what’s known as “pre-appointment scrutiny” before officially taking up the role, which is worth £160,000 a year.
The BBC is one of the U.K.’s public service broadcasters and is also publicly owned, effectively held in trust by the government for the U.K. public. Convention dictates that the candidate for chair is “recommended” to King Charles II and the Lord President of the Council (currently Penny Mordaunt) by the secretary of state for culture (currently Lucy Frazer) and the Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, following a hearing with the Cms committee and subsequent report.

Upon the death of Queen Elizabeth II, her oldest son became the new monarch. King Charles III hasn’t had the easiest reign so far as he’s dealt with family drama mainly from his youngest son, Prince Harry, and daughter-in-law, Meghan Markle. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have done several interviews, released a Netflix docuseries, and Harry put out his memoir with fresh negative claims about the royal family.
Now, a psychic is predicting that the king will have to deal with some more “family drama” and will also try to keep a secret private that is until it “becomes public knowledge.”

There were many questions leading up to King Charles III‘s coronation including if Prince Harry would be there, how the affair would be scaled down compared to the late Queen Elizabeth II‘s, and what kind of reception the public would have to the first coronation in 70 years.
The ceremony took place at Westminster Abbey on May 6, 2023, with the Duke of Sussex in attendance. It was a much more toned-down event than Charles’ mother’s was and the king’s major fear was a non-issue. Here’s what Charles told his friend ahead of the coronation that turned out to be wrong.

King Charles III‘s reign since the death of his mother hasn’t been an easy one. There have been some anti-monarchy protesters showing up during a few of his engagements, rumblings about countries interested in leaving the Commonwealth, questions about jewels acquired centuries ago, and drama with family members like Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
Now, a psychic is predicting that things are going to continue to be difficult for the king in the year ahead and one royal could find themselves outside the new monarch’s “circle of trust.”

Exclusive: Hot on the heels of Charles III coronation, Mike Medavoy and Keith Chapman are boarding the producing team for the Charles I & II historical epic, The Thorn in the Crown.
The Thorn in the Crown, by scribes Pascal Mercay and Morgan Smallbone, tells the story of John Cooke, a humble lawyer and prototype of the modern-day human rights campaigner, who in 1649 London accepted the unprecedented and perilous brief to prosecute King Charles I for treason. All but lost to history, this remarkable figure has been plucked from obscurity and pieced together alongside renowned,

On Saturday, King Charles III was officially anointed and crowned as the King of the United Kingdom during the coronation ceremony at Westminster Abbey in London, England.
During the proceedings, the archbishop placed the St. Edward’s Crown atop of the royal’s head. A tradition since the 17th century, the crown was created for his namesake predecessor, King Charles II, in 1661, and is modelled after the original medieval crown, and features four crosses-pattée, four fleurs-de-lis, and two arches, mounted on a deep purple velvet cap and ermine band. The crown is inlayed with rubies, amethysts, sapphires, garnet, topazes, and tourmalines.
The crowning came while King Charles was seated in the coronation chair after pledging an oath of dedication to his duties as King of the United Kingdom. At the time, he was also vested with various garments and a sword belt worn by monarchs in past coronations.

If there was ever an actor worthy of the distinction of "America's Sweetheart," it's Meg Ryan, who has been appearing in films since 1981. Effortlessly charming and with an often easygoing magnetism whenever she's on-screen, Ryan channels her natural talents effectively in romantic comedies and family-friendly fare. However, Ryan also possesses a much wider range than many give her credit for, delivering solid work in military dramas and character studies while occasionally branching out into hard science-fiction and fantasy.
Despite performing in dozens of film roles over the past 40-plus years, Ryan is one of her generation's more underrated actors. In fact, though millions of moviegoers adore her and her work, Ryan has yet to earn an Academy Award nomination of any kind. She famously exited the clan upon her divorce from Prince Andrew and has since made a new life for herself as a writer, spokesperson, and media personality. She navigated her own exit from the House of Windsor and shared advice for her nephew Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, as they try to figure out their place in the royal family moving forward.

Hugh Grant has revealed, under duress, the one film he would erase from his IMDb page if he could.
On Wednesday (29 March), the Notting Hill star appeared on The Late Late Show with James Corden, during which he took part in the “Spill Your Guts or Fill Your Guts” segment.
In the game, in which celebrities are challenged to eat disgusting food or answer a hard question, Grant was asked which film he would effectively remove from his CV.
If he didn’t answer the question, Grant would have had to eat a “worm and mayonnaise shepherd’s pie”.
“The thing is, I would happily shred my CV because I specialised in being bad for decades really,” he told Corden. “As you know, as someone in the industry, it’s one thing for me to say that I was bad, but I can’t bring the wonderful colleagues who worked...

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were invited to King Charles’ coronation but haven’t publicly confirmed they will attend. A PR expert believes they should avoid stealing the spotlight on this historic day.

PR and Crisis Communications Specialist Patrick O’Kane of Different Narrative said Harry and Meghan shouldn’t attend the coronation, telling The Mirror they face a “damned if you do, damned if you don’t” scenario.
“With public opinion very much divided on whether the couple should attend king Charles II’s coronation, there is a risk that Harry and Meghan’s attendance would steal the limelight on what should be a historical day not only for royals but for the United Kingdom and the entire commonwealth,” O’Kane said.

At the time of Queen Elizabeth II’s death, her oldest son immediately became the new monarch. However, King Charles III‘s official crowning will not take place until his coronation ceremony in May. Plans for the major royal event have been underway for months but one of the sticky points for the royal family is whether or not to invite Prince Harry and Meghan Markle following the Sussexes’ Netflix docuseries and the duke’s bombshell memoir.
When asked if he would attend, assuming he gets an invitation, Harry did not commit and said his family needs to sit down and speak to him about all that has happened first. It’s also been reported that the duke wants a public apology from the Firm to him and his wife.

It’s no secret that King Charles III‘s upcoming coronation is being held at a difficult time for many people across the U.K. and the Commonwealth. Some have discussed a “budget coronation” so not to appear too flashy given the cost of living crisis in Britain and beyond.
The Palace has stated that the king’s coronation will be a bit different from the late Queen Elizabeth II‘s. However, even a toned-down affair is still one that is expected to “knock your socks off.”

Prince Harry has made his first TV appearance since his highly-anticipated memoir, “Spare,” leaked on Thursday.
The pre-recorded interview with British anchor Tom Bradby, which aired in the U.K. at 9pm local time on public service broadcaster ITV, saw Harry address some of the most explosive claims in the book, included his drug-taking and his fractured relationship with his family.
He said he was “grateful” for the chance to tell his story in the memoir and said if he’d still been part of the royal family he wouldn’t have had that opportunity.
Among a wide-ranging discussion, which was broadcast over 90 minutes with commercial breaks, Harry slammed former “Top Gear” host Jeremy Clarkson following a newspaper column last month in which the “Clarkson’s Farm” star wrote that he “hates” Meghan on a “cellular level” and suggested she be made to “parade naked” through Britain while people “throw lumps of excrement at her.

The second volume of “Harry & Meghan,” Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s documentary about their experiences with the British Royal Family, has dropped and it’s already making waves in the U.K. One headline describes the final three episodes of the series as “Harry’s all out war on William and Charles” thanks to a series of revelations and accusations the couple make about Harry’s brother, father and their staff.

Exclusive: Sex Education’s Connor Swindells said he felt privileged to land the lead role in the stonking BBC One WW2 desert warfare drama Sas Rogue Heroes, and he praised director, Tom Shankland (The Serpent) “for considering me for this, because this isn’t something that comes my way.”

The BBC says it achieved UK audience highs of 28 million watching its coverage of the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II on Monday (19 September).
The broadcaster said the overall viewership of its funeral coverage accounted for “the majority of the UK public”.
Meanwhile, live footage of the Queen lying-in-state was streamed 25 million times across BBC online, it said.
“Yesterday was BBC One’s biggest viewing day since the 2012 Olympics Closing Ceremony,” a spokesperson said.
“At peak, 22.4 million people were watching across all BBC channels.”
The broadcaster added that the viewing figures it provided did not include live streaming on mobile devices or those watching on catch-up, so the final consolidated figures are likely to be higher.

Prince William and Kate Middleton stepped out on Thursday to view floral bouquets, balloons, and tributes of all sorts left by members of the public at Sandringham in Norfolk, England, following the death of Queen Elizabeth II. The outing marked the couple’s first solo appearance since becoming the Prince and Princess of Wales, a title given to William by his father, King Charles II, after Her Majesty died on Sept. 8.
In photos from the day, William and Kate can be seen chatting with onlookers while collecting flowers and cards. Kate wore a black dress, with a long overcoat, while William donned a black suit.
According to the Daily Mail, William told one woman that walking behind his grandmother’s coffin on Wednesday was “very difficult.” He went on to say that the procession reminded him of when his mother, the late Princess Diana, died. “Don’t cry now, you’ll start me off,...

Baby Cow are the production company behind some of the U.K.’s best-loved comedy shows, including “Gavin and Stacey” with James Corden and Ruth Jones, Julian Barratt and Noel Fielding’s “The Mighty Boosh” and “This Time With Alan Partridge” starring Steve Coogan as the cringe-worthy fictional television host.
It was a prescient Coogan who founded Baby Cow alongside producer Henry Normal in 1998, long before talent-led production companies were a thing. In 2016 BBC Studios took a majority stake in the company, with Coogan staying on as a shareholder and creative director. He also stars in many (although not all) of the company’s projects – which span TV, film, comedy and drama – including the recent Channel 4 series “Chivalry,” in which he plays an old-school film producer getting to grips with a changing world opposite Sarah Solemani, and upcoming feature film “The Lost King,” about an amateur historian who finds...

Exclusive: Princess Diana’s brother Charles Spencer’s book To Catch a King is to be adapted by Philomena and The Lost King duo Steve Coogan and Jeff Pope.
Coogan’s BBC Studios-backed indie Baby Cow won the option for the rights to the book and he will co-write with Pope, with the pair having recently penned Stephen Frears-directed The Lost King set for release later this year.
