Last week’s “Project Runway” episode, “Couch Couture,” hoped to elevate pandemic loungewear into something luxurious, but the judges brought the mood way down at the end of the night by eliminating two designers: Octavio Aguilar and Zayden Skipper, whose looks were unoriginal and unflattering, respectively. So what happened when the remaining designers embarked on the most difficult challenge of every “Runway” season: the unconventional materials challenge?

The eight designers remaining in the competition going into this episode were Coral Castillo, Prajje Oscar Jean-Baptiste, Bones Jones, Kristina Kharlashkina, Shantall Lacayo, Chasity Sereal, Aaron Michael Steach, and Anna Zhou.
And you could feel the absence of Octavio and Zayden from the very beginning; the morning after their double-ouster left the other designers in a melancholy mood. The season started with 16 designers, so the cast was now cut in half. Anna was especially upset as...

Last week in the seventh episode of “Project Runway” season 19, the 10 designers worked in pairs yet again to use faux fur in an avant-garde challenge. While Bones Jones and Aaron Michael Steach struggled to find a unified approach to building out an oversized fur collar, Shantall Lacayo was faced with the prospect of falling into the bottom with a partner holding immunity. Sure enough, she and Kristina Kharlashkina were the judges’ least favorite, meaning Shantall was eliminated. Luckily, Christian Siriano still had his save to use and decided to spare Shantall, keeping her in the competition.

Two weeks ago in the sixth episode of “Project Runway” season 19, the 11 remaining designers were partnered with New York accessories designers in celebration of the fashion industry getting back to work after the pandemic. Including pairings with hat, glove and shoe designers, each of the fresh garments was inspired by and created in harmony with the locally-designed accessory. Kristina Kharlashkina worked with a shoe designer and earned her first win of the season for a neon green suit that gave the judges multiple pieces that could be worn together or on their own. After two consecutive bottom placements in a row, Katie Kortman found herself among the judges’ least favorite yet again for failing to find her own voice in partnership with a vegan shoe designer.

The always highly anticipated avant garde challenge is tonight on “Project Runway.” The remaining designers will have to make unique artistic statements with faux fur, but who will be out at the end of the night? The fans we’ve surveyed here in our predictions center say it will be Zayden Skipper, who gets 71/20 odds of being sent home. Do you agree? Make or update your own predictions here before tonight’s show.
Skipper’s season got off to a strong start with a safe score in the season premiere, “A Colorful Return,” and then one of the highest scores in the “#Streetwear” challenge. Unfortunately, his work since then has been less consistent. He had one of the judges’ least favorite looks in “If You Got It, Haunt It,” where they criticized him for a poor choice in fabric; luckily for Skipper, they eliminated Kenneth Barlis instead.

On last week’s fifth episode of “Project Runway” season 19, the 12 remaining designers worked in pairs to create exciting looks for Tara Lipinski and Johnny Weir to wear as commentators at the upcoming 2022 Winter Olympics. As the clients, Tara and Johnny chose Anna and Bones as the winners for Anna’s stunning white beaded gown for Tara and a complementary look for Johnny created by Bones. They weren’t as jazzed by what Sabrina and Prajje assembled for them, and opted to send Sabrina home for her costumey interpretation of the assignment.

On last week’s fourth episode of “Project Runway” season 19, Gigi Hadid was the guest judge in a “Flower Power” challenge that saw the 13 designers create custom floral prints for a look that would emphasize the versatility of flowers. Darren Apolonio fell to the bottom of the pack again for failing to convey his concept in a look that made sense or showed the judges anything new from him, and was eliminated. Tonight the remaining 12 were paired off for a sequins-focused challenge with Olympian guest clients Tara Lipinski and Johnny Weir.

Sometimes no news is good news, but on “Project Runway” that can be a double-edged sword. Coral Castillo is the only designer left in season 19 who has yet to get a critique from the judges. That means she has never designed a look that has been on the bottom, but it also means she hasn’t impressed them enough to be at the top. And she hasn’t gotten guidance from the panel one way or the other, which could lead her astray in successive challenges. Could she be out tonight?
That’s what our users think. “Runway” fans have been placing their bets for episode five all week here in our predictions center, and they give Castillo 37/10 odds of being sent home. She’s followed by Zayden Skipper with 9/2 odds. Skipper got off to a strong start this season, creating one of the top designs in week two’s “#Streetwear” challenge.

Setting yourself apart from your fellow designers is the key to winning “Project Runway,” so of course prevailing in the week-to-week design challenges is important along the way. Not only does it earn you immunity from elimination in the following challenge in the earlier weeks of the season, it also crucially establishes your reputation in the eyes of the judges. However, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so scroll down to see the looks that won each challenge this season, and decide for yourself if they really deserved such high praise.

On last week’s third episode of “Project Runway” season 19, night descended in the studio as the designers created glamorous masquerade gowns for a “hauntingly chic” runway. Chasity Sereal came out on top in the challenge, lavishly praised by guest judge Taraji P. Henson for what she called “hot sex on a platter.” Kenneth Barlis didn’t fare so well, confusing the judges with a snake-inspired “Batman costume,” according to Nina Garcia.

It takes a lot to win “Project Runway.” It’s hard enough just not to lose every week since the designers only get one or two days to create an entire look from scratch. So there’s no shame in having an off day. Nevertheless, these are the worst looks of season 19 according to the judges. Did they get it right by picking these as the poorest designs? Or did you think any of them were criminally underrated? Scroll down to see the losing looks, updating each week as the season progresses.
The season started with 16 designers: Octavio Aguilar, Darren Apolonio, Kenneth Barlis, Caycee Black, Bones Jones, Coral Castillo, Meg Ferguson, Prajje Oscar Jean-Baptiste, Kristina Kharlashkina, Katie Kortman, Shantall Lacayo, Chasity Sereal, Sabrina Spanta, Aaron Michael Steach, Zayden Skipper, and Anna Zhou.
