Reed Morano’s action drama “The Rhythm Section” made box office history over its debut weekend, but not in a good way for Paramount Pictures. The $50 million production opened January 31 in 3,049 theaters and grossed just $2.8 million over its first three days, marking the worst box office opening in history for a title playing in over 3,000 theaters. Deadline estimates “The Rhythm Section” will lose Paramount as much as $30 million. The film follows Universal’s “Dolittle” as one of the first major bombs of 2020. The film had the backing of James Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson of Eon, who reacted to the poor box office by trying to find the silver lining.
“We are obviously disappointed with the box office,” the Eon producers said to Deadline, “but we’re proud of Reed and our movie and the overwhelmingly positive reaction to Blake’s performance.”

Bond is back. Here’s the anticipated first trailer for Bond 25 No Time To Die, featuring a moody Daniel Craig, some stunning visuals (the Italian city of Matera in particular), a first look at Lashana Lynch’s rival Brit agent who is rumored to have taken on the 007 moniker in the film and a souped-up Aston Martin. It’s a fun ride.
Cary Joji Fukunaga directs the pic, in which 007 has left active service. However, his peace is short-lived when his old friend Felix Leiter (Jeffrey Wright) coaxes him out of retirement for the fight against a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology.
Starring with Craig, Wright and Lynch are returners Ralph Fiennes, Ben Whishaw, Naomie Harris and Léa Seydoux. Joining the fray are Rami Malek as villain Safin, Ana de Armas as Paloma and Christoph Waltz as iconic Bond villain Ernst Stavro Blofeld.

The rumors have been swirling about who would be taking on the role of Commissioner Gordon in the upcoming “Batman” film, however it appears that “Westworld” actor Jeffrey Wright is now locked into the role. Actor Mahershala Ali was also being looked at for the role, but it seems that Wright won out in the end. The news was broken via Twitter by director Matt Reeves who posted a simple tweet that read “Tweet! #Gordon and the bat emoji. Tweet! #Gordon...

Joseph Losey’s fortunes as an expatriate director took an upswing with this efficient, nervous and somewhat overcooked thriller with a daunting ticking-bomb deadline story gimmick — alcoholic wreck Michael Redgrave has only twenty hours to save his son from execution for murder. Losey racks up the tension, but he doesn’t give a hoot for Ben Barzman’s whodunnit scripting. Just the same, it’s good to see the director finally gaining traction — from this point forward most every Losey picture received serious international attention.

So, Agent A: A Puzzle In Disguise was initially released as a mobile game back in 2015. An episodic puzzle-game, its been ported over to the Nintendo Switch on a release that allows you a chance to play all of those episodes. A game that is a visual homage to spy films from the 60s and 70s, it’s a colourful and stylised game with lots of humour and some really interesting and well-thought-out puzzles that really do work on the Switch. More than I imagined they would, actually.
I don’t always think ports of mobile games work, but this one did. I think playing this on the big TV, which is how I personally chose to play it, worked really well. It’s a blast to play through it with other people too, all staring at the television and trying to solve the puzzle on screen. The locations are bloody brilliant and designed well,...

Toronto-bowed “Savages,” the kinetic, taut political thriller from Vivendi’s Canal Plus, imagines a French Obama – Idder Chaouch, of Algerian descent, played by a stately Roschdy Zem – poised in Paris to rule France as its first Maghrebi president.
If he survives an assassination attempt.
Yet, created and co-written by novelist Sabri Louatah and cineast Rebecca Zlotowski, who also directs, the six-part limited series kicks off, in a total declaration of intentions, 250 miles south in the dowdy city of Saint-Étienne.
From a slow sweep establishing shot, it’s a motley, downbeat mix of high-rise council apartment blocks and hills. Cut to two sisters, Dounia and Rabia Nerrouche, in a car, running through the guest list for the wedding of Slim, Dounia’s youngest.
“Arab, Arab, Arab! Mekloufi, Arab. Sahraoui, Arab. Benboudaud, big fat Arab! All Arabs: Are you serious?” asks Rabia in semi-mock disgust, using a more derogatory word in French for “Arab.

Trevor Hardy’s debut feature Strike is an entertaining if overlong animation which tells the story of a shortsighted young Mole who dreams of footballing stardom, but who has to follow in his father’s footsteps and work down the mine. The film is produced by Hove animation studio Gigglefish which prides itself in its environmentally friendly sets which were created using recycled (or upcycled) everyday products.

You know, they say life never imitates art in a good way and once again, this has been proven true.
While speaking at a film festival in Spain, Dame Judi Dench actually defended Kevin Spacey and seriously argued that he should not’ve been cut from 2017’s All the Money in the World after several allegations of inappropriate sexual behavior surfaced against the actor.
Here’s what Dench had to say:
“I can’t approve, in any way, of the fact – whatever he has done – that you then start to cut him out of films. Are we to go back throughout history now and anyone who has misbehaved in any way, or has broken the law, or has committed some kind of offense, are they always going to be cut out?”
Now, to be fair to the actress, historical revisionism in certain contexts is concerning (think of what George Lucas...

Thursday morning, Eon Productions made the announcement that Cary Fukunaga will replace Danny Boyle as the director of Bond 25. The announcement comes as a surprise, considering Fukunaga, best known for directing season one of the HBO series True Detective (2014) and the film Beasts of No Nation (2015), hadn't shown up on any of the shortlists of potential candidates. The news comes ahead of Friday's release of Fukunaga’s Netflix miniseries, Maniac, starring Jonah Hill and Emma Stone.

In a surprising turn of events, Danny Boyle has exited Bond 25, which had been scheduled to begin production in December for a November 2019 release. Citing creative differences, producers Michael G.
