Agents of Shield’s imminently arriving seventh and final season is already looking like a welcome reprieve for our current corona-combating civilization; a notion that has just been affirmed with news that should please fans of its former Marvel sister series on ABC, the gone-but-not-forgotten Agent Carter, with the return of that show’s cast member, Enver Gjokaj, who will reprise his role as Daniel Sousa.
Gjokaj will guest-star as Sousa at some point in Agents of Shield Season 7, as EW confirms with a photo. The return of Sousa will be something that’s four years in the making after the actor played the character as part of the main cast of Agent Carter throughout its two season, 18-episode run from 2015 to 2016. As Gjokaj—who confesses his surprise—tells the outlet of the long-awaited return:

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 7 will see the resurrected Phil Coulson and his team traveling back into the past, which not only gives the show’s final run a unique hook but also allows it to crossover with another much-missed ABC Marvel series. Yes, it’s finally been confirmed that AoS season 7 will feature at least one main character from Agent Carter – Enver Gjokaj, reprising his role as Ssr agent Daniel Sousa.
Entertainment Weekly revealed the news, along with our first look at Sousa’s return to the McU. While speaking to EW, Gjokaj admitted that he never expected to get the chance to play the part again after Carter was cancelled back in 2016.
“It wasn’t anywhere near my brain,” says Gjokaj. “I would’ve been thrilled at any moment for it to come back, but I think as an actor you don’t have time. You just have to...

Two of ABC’s live-action Marvel series (was there really a third?) will collide when the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. cross paths with a character from the gone-too-soon Agent Carter during the former’s seventh and final season.
Enver Gjokaj, whose Daniel Sousa was an agent with the Strategic Scientific Reserve (Ssr) on Agent Carter, will reprise that role as a guest star during S.H.I.E.L.D.‘s 13-episode farewell run, which kicks off Wednesday, May 27 at 10/9.

We spoke to the Agents of Shield showrunners to get a better idea of what it is we really saw in the surprising season 6 finale.
This interview contains spoilers for Agents of Shield season 6.
The Agents of Shield finale left us with a lot of questions, and while we did our best to explain the ending ourselves, we had to at least make an attempt at getting some answers from showrunners Maurissa Tancharoen, Jed Whedon, and Jeff Bell. They were noticeably tight-lipped with some of our probing inquiries, but we did succeed in getting them to speculate about audience reaction, the impacts on various characters, and the specific context of where things will begin in season 7.
Den Of Geek: How unusual that for this Agents of Shield season 6 post-mortem, you already know what’s going to happen in season 7!
Jed Whedon: Yeah! We not only know...

Executive producers Jeph Loeb and Jeff Bell reassure Agents of Shield fans that the series will end in a satisfying manner.
When we spoke to Agents of Shield executive producers Jeph Loeb and Jeff Bell at San Diego Comic Con, the announcement had just been made that season 7 would be the Marvel show's final outing, but even though season 6 still has an exciting conclusion in the near future, Loeb and Bell wanted to reassure fans that when the ending does come, they'll be ready.
Den Of Geek: What are things that you think are necessary when you are ending something that has been going on for seven seasons?
Jeph Loeb: We try to tell stories that are very satisfying. And obviously there are going to be people who those things work for, and there's gonna be those people that it's not going to work for. But...

The Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. cast and crew came to San Diego Comic-Con and premiered a new extended trailer. During the Thursday panel in Hall H the cast: Clark Gregg, Ming-Na Wen, Chloe Bennet, Elizabeth Henstridge, Iain De Caestecker, Henry Simmons, Natalia Cordova-Buckley, and Jeff Ward, were also joined by executive producers Maurissa Tancharoen, Jed Whedon, Jeff Bell, and Jeph Loeb.
They reflected on the show's journey by showing video recaps of each season and sharing random stories about production and casting. The whole panel had the specter of the show’s end hanging over it. Thankfully, they get to close out the show with one more season, but it's going to be sad to see Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. end, but also surprising that the show made it as far as it did. It always seemed like the McU kept throwing the show curveballs...

Exclusive: Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will end after its upcoming seventh season.
“When you know that’s what you’re doing, you can take greater risks, of life and death,” Marvel TV boss Jeph Loeb says of the conclusion of ABC’s Clark Gregg-led superspy series, which is currently in the last weeks of its explosive sixth season. “Those kinds of decisions suddenly now are real on the table because you’re not playing how do we undo this when we get to the next season. You’re playing that this is going to be the end of the story.”
A regular and often circumspect presence at Comic-Con over the past decade, Loeb will be joining Gregg, fellow cast members Ming-Na Wen, Chloe Bennet, Elizabeth Henstridge, Iain De Caestecker, Henry Simmons, Natalia Cordova-Buckley and Jeff Ward in S.H.I.E.L.D.

The fan-favorite Marvel star on rewinding Coulson for Captain Marvel, what’s next for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and more.
It was 11 years ago this May when Tony Stark and Pepper Potts were approached in the first Marvel Cinematic Universe movie, Iron Man, by an unassuming yet cynical man-in-black type from a clandestine intelligence organization called S.H.I.E.L.D. That fellow, it turned out, was Agent Phil Coulson, and that first appearance started a long and winding road through the Marvel Universe on both the big and small screens for Coulson and the actor who plays him, Clark Gregg.
Coulson showed up in Iron Man 2 (2010), Thor (2011) and The Avengers (2012), where his shocking death at the hands of Loki was the impetus used by his boss Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) to forge Earth’s Mightiest Heroes into a working team.

Marvel's premiere TV team will return for Agents of Shield Season 7, but it will be the series' final outing on ABC.
Although its future was often in doubt season to season, Agents of Shield season 7 was a sure thing right from the start as ABC renewed the series for two shortened seasons shortly after the end of season five. With the introduction of another time travel storyline — this time to past — the fact that season 7 will be the show's final run introduces interesting possibilities for coming full circle with the origins of the S.H.I.E.L.D. organization.
