Ellen DeGeneres returned to the stage to kick off Ellen’s Last Stand…Up Tour with a set at the Los Angeles Largo Club at the Coronet. She discussed the opportunity to address the elephant in the room: her absence from the limelight. In an exclusive for Showbiz Cheat Sheet, body language expert Darren Stanton claims that Ellen has taken “no ownership” of her past apologies.
Ellen DeGeneres may not be authentic in her past apologies, says body language expert
During Ellen DeGeneres’s stand-up show, the comedienne joked about getting “kicked out of show business” for being mean. “The hate went on for a long time, and I would try to avoid looking at the news,” she recalled. “The ‘be kind’ girl wasn’t kind. That was the headline.”
However, body language expert Darren Stanton has a different take on DeGeneres’ commentary. He subsequently believes she may not be authentic in her past apologies.

For the first time in 18 years, “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” has not been nominated for the Daytime Emmys Best Entertainment Talk Show. The snub for the series, and host Ellen DeGeneres, comes after its 19th and final season.
The syndicated show did score nominations for writing and set design, however.
DeGeneres made the decision to end her talk show in 2021, following multiple complaints of a toxic workplace. A WarnerMedia investigation into the allegations of harassment and racist comments and microaggressions led to the firing of executive producers Ed Glavin and Kevin Leman and co-executive producer Jonathan Norman.
Last year, “The Ellen DeGeneres” show did snag a nomination for Best Entertainment Talk Show despite the scandal. DeGeneres has not submitted herself for Best Entertainment Talk Show Host “in years,” according to EW.
The other series nominated in the category this year are “The Drew Barrymore Show,” YouTube’s “Hot Ones,” “The Kelly Clarkson Show,...

NBC and Ellen DeGeneres will not be teaming up again for another season of fun and games. “Ellen’s Game of Games,” which has aired on the network for four seasons, has been canceled, Variety has confirmed. This coincides with the conclusion of the comedian’s award-winning daytime talk show, slated to end this upcoming spring with Season 19.
DeGeneres served as host and executive producer of the one-hour alternative series, which included supersized versions of some of the most popular games from “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.” The series also features Stephen “tWitch” Boss who, with DeGeneres, oversaw the contestants playing different games over four rounds. The winner of each round advanced to the “Know or Go” stage, and the winner of that round proceeded to “Hot Hands” for a chance to win a $100,000 cash prize.
The move to end the spinoff series isn’t entirely surprising, given that DeGeneres’ current contract ends this year.

Exclusive: Ellen DeGeneres’ game show Ellen’s Game of Games is not coming back to NBC.
Deadline understands that the fourth season of the unscripted primetime series will be its last on the network.
The series launched with an eight-episode order in 2017 and its fourth season, which debuted in October 2020 and ran through May 2021, featured 20 episodes.
The family friendly format had previously been a strong performer for the network – tying for fourth among all primetime entertainment programs on broadcast with kids and ranking as primetime’s number one game show in 2019.
However, last year, the show lost a sizeable portion of its audience.
It comes as The Ellen DeGeneres Show, which airs on a number of NBC-owned affiliate stations, is ending later this spring with its 19th season.

Ellen DeGeneres is ending her long-running daytime talk show, Variety has confirmed.
“The Ellen DeGeneres Show” will officially end after the upcoming 2021-22 season. DeGeneres has hosted the series since 2003, meaning the show will have run for 19 seasons by the time it ends.
The show has been a major fixture of the daytime TV landscape throughout its run and has even inspired a number of spinoffs. Those include shows like “Ellen’s Game of Games,” “The Masked Dancer,” “Family Game Fight” and “Ellen’s Greatest Night of Giveaways.”
The move to end the series is not altogether unsurprising, as DeGeneres’ current contract ends in 2022. There had been rumors when she extended her contract in 2019 that she was planning to end the series at that time, though she ultimately signed for another three years.
Warner Bros., whose Telepictures Productions unit produces the series, has been preparing for DeGeneres’ departure for some time.

The “Ellen” show hit a season high in TV ratings with its “12 Days of Giveaways” kickoff during Thanksgiving Week. Sometimes when you give, you also receive.
The daytime talk show’s 1.3 national Live + Same Day rating is its highest since the “toxic workplace” scandal this summer.
The 1.3 rating was +18% from the previous week, according to Nielsen.
It should be noted here that Thanksgiving itself and Black Friday were not counted for many daytime shows, including “Ellen,” due to the holidays and the preemptions that come with them.
Ellen DeGeneres may not be totally thankful about the season-high, however. The Warner Bros. show’s ratings were still down 35% from the same week in 2019.
Topping the talk shows was “Live with Kelly and Ryan,” with a 1.9. “Dr. Phil” dropped 10% week to week and into second place. Dr. Phil’s talk show was among the few that did not get to back...

A live studio audience will once again fill the seats on set of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.”
Starting with the Oct. 28 show, 40 fans will be seated in the talk show’s audience section alongside 70 virtual attendees. The return to live audiences may be happening just in time for the show’s Halloween week, but strict pandemic-related health and safety protocols will help ensure that the coronavirus gives no added spooks to guests.
Audience members will also be invited to the Oct. 30 Halloween episode, which has been known to feature host Ellen DeGeneres decked out in a custom costume. Last year she did a spin on Cardi B, aptly calling the costumed version of herself Cardi E, while other costumes have spoofed Sia, the Kardashians and Snooki’s hair.
Other Halloween traditions will also be featured throughout Halloween week, including clips of executive producer Andy Lassner attempting to work his way through a haunted house.

“The Ellen DeGeneres Show” returned steady in TV ratings on Monday, the Season 18 premiere that will forever be better known as “the apology episode.”
Steady these days is a win.
“Ellen” drew a 1.9 household rating, flat with the prior September’s premiere. That was good enough to finish second to “The View” (a 2.7 rating).
“Ellen” was able to grow a bit year over year among adults 25 to 54, posting a 0.9 rating. That was up from a 0.8 last year.
Daytime talk shows skew more towards women, and DeGeneres beat or tied the competition among those categories. “Ellen” led the ranks on Monday with a 0.6 rating among women 18-34 and a 0.8 rating among women 18-49.
Ellen DeGeneres’ talk show tied with “The View” among women 25-54 — both got 1.1s.
DeGeneres’ on-air mea culpa, which was not a hit with everyone, was intended to address reports from the summer about a toxic work environment at the Warner Bros.

Ellen DeGeneres opened Season 18 of “The Ellen DeGeneres” show Monday with a monologue that addressed the toxic workplace accusations posed against the show by current and former employees over the summer. But DeGeneres’ speech, which included apologies and a promise to start a “new chapter” at her show, was found tone-deaf by some former and current “Ellen” staffers due to the inclusion of jokes about how “great” her summer was, according to BuzzFeed News.
One former employee told BuzzFeed news, “When she said, ‘Oh my summer was great’ and that was supposed to be funny I thought, ‘It’s funny that you had a rough summer because everyone was calling out all of the allegations of your toxic work environment and now you’re the one suffering?'”

WarnerMedia is putting its entire production business under review, following the multitude of toxic workplace reports at “The Ellen Degeneres Show” and TMZ.
“We have engaged a third party to do an objective, proactive review across our production business (internal teams in addition to partner productions),” CEO Jason Kilar wrote in a memo. “I want to understand if there is any pattern of behavior that is at odds with our need to treat each other with dignity.”
As part of the review, WarnerMedia will update its Standard of Business Conduct which all employees will be required to sign. The new, stricter, guidelines will extend to Warner Bros.’ producing partners. “I anticipate that there will be situations where we choose to terminate business relationships. I also anticipate that there will be situations where a person may choose not to work with us because of these rigid expectations. That’s fine,” Kilar continued.

If you've been worried about the future of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, we have some good news:
The show is officially coming back!
Despite weeks of rumors that the hit talk show would not move forward with its new season amid complaints of a toxic workplace, DeGeneres herself has announced a return date.
Season 18 will hit the air September 21, according to a statement.
Initially, it was set to return Wednesday, September 9, but things change in the world of showbiz.
"I can't wait to get back to work and back to our studio," host Ellen DeGeneres said in a statement.
As if that wasn't enough incentive to tune into the series following months of bad press, Ellen also said the following:
"Yes, we're gonna talk about it."
It's certainly a big thing to say, but it could help get people talking about the new season and, in turn, help to drive up the show's ratings.

The future of The Ellen DeGeneres show remains in doubt following the stunning wave of allegations surrounding the daytime talker.
Executive producer Andy Lassner has spoke out for the first time since the allegations came to light. It all started when he returned to Instagram with a video of himself talking directly to the camera.
"Oh, look who it is. If it isn't Andy Lassner. Well, yes it is. Your eyes do not deceive you," he began in a bizarre video.
"I'm back. I've been away for a little bit dealing with, you know, some stuff. You may have read about it."
"It's been a couple of rough months," added Lassner.
"But it's when we go through these things, I guess, when we learn the most about ourselves, and maybe even some growth.
"But to tell you it hasn't been rough would be a lie, and I've always been honest with you.

The Ellen DeGeneres Show has been dragged through the mud in recent months, with allegations of a toxic environment on the set coming to the forefront.
However, it seems that the issues on the set have been happening for much longer than first thought.

This comes two years before three top producers on the daytime talker were officially fired after being accused of sexual misconduct and harassment.

It was filed with an unnamed industry union in 2018, and one current and former employee broke the news to Buzzfeed news.

Amidst an investigation into several accusations of workplace and sexual misconduct, “Ellen DeGeneres Show” has removed three of its top producers: Ed Glavin, Kevin Leman and Jonathan Norman.
A spokesperson for Warner Bros. confirmed the departures to TheWrap.
The decision comes a little more than two weeks after the trio was accused of misconduct by former employees in a story published by BuzzFeed News in July. “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” has overhauled its senior production team in the wake of accusations of racial insensitivity, sexual misconduct and other problems in the work environment at the long-running daytime talk show.
Three senior producers — executive producers Ed Glavin and Kevin Leman, and co-executive producer Jonathan Norman — have been ousted from the Warner Bros.-distributed syndicated strip following damning allegations raised in recent reports by Buzzfeed and Variety. “Ellen” veterans Mary Connelly, Andy Lassner and Derek Westervelt will remain at the show as executive producers alongside host DeGeneres. Connelly, Lassner and Westervelt have been with the show since its inception in 2003.
A Warner Bros. spokeswoman confirmed that Glavin, Leman and Norman have “parted ways” with the show.
The news was delivered to “Ellen” staffers Monday afternoon during a staff meeting in which DeGeneres spoke via a videoconference call. DeGeneres was emotional to the point of tears, and apologetic as she addressed more than 200 staffers.

As “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” winds down its summer hiatus, Variety has learned that producers on Monday are addressing with staff accounts of workplace misconduct on the popular daytime talk series, which are currently being investigated by WarnerMedia. As an increasing number of allegations come to light, questions are mounting as to how DeGeneres’ lucrative talker and carefully crafted public persona will be affected.
Senior creatives and producers are back at work this week, with the 140 or so personnel at “Ellen” gradually returning in stages following the break. The investigation is still ongoing. As Variety reported exclusively last week, series producer Telepictures and distributor Warner Bros. Television informed staff that WarnerMedia’s employee relations group and a third-party firm would interview current and former staffers about their on-set experiences.

Portia de Rossi is showing her support for wife Ellen DeGeneres. The actress took Instagram on Monday, Aug. 3. to share an image that read, "I Stand By Ellen." Along with the photo, Portia wrote, "To all our fans....we see you. Thank you for your support. #stopbotattacks." This post from Portia comes after an internal investigation was launched into The Ellen DeGeneres Show amid allegations about the workplace environment. Ellen Degeneres has been on TV screens for decades, but it looks like viewers are about to see a lot less of the embattled star.
Daily Mail is reporting that the Ellen host is thinking of bringing the show to a close following a recent wave of misconduct allegations that have triggered an investigation by WarnerMedia, the company that owns the show.
"She feels she can't go on and the only way to recover her personal brand from this is to shut down the show," a source explained to Daily Mail.
"The truth is she knew what was going on—it's her show. The buck stops with her. She can blame every executive under the sun, but Ellen is ultimately the one to blame."
DeGeneres sent a memo to her staff on Thursday, in which she addressed the allegations plaguing the series.
"As we've grown exponentially, I've not been able...
