Despite not bearing an iota of negativity in terms of English Grammar, the word “Paparazzi” always gets associated with something being irritating or obnoxious. And the reason for that is the usual Paparazzi culture, where a person would do literally anything to get their “money shot” of a celebrity. It is strange that it took this long for Charlie Brooker to make a Black Mirror episode out of it. Now that he has finally done it, I have got to say that he has mostly nailed it. Of course, Brooker has done it in his own style- by presenting us the movie equivalent of a peanut butter sandwich, but with a surprise addition of bacon in it. Mazey Day starts as a rather serious take on the Paparazzi culture, which soon turns into an investigative thriller, until it takes the full-blown monster horror route in the blood-soaked final act.

[This story contains spoilers to the finale of Based on a True Story.]
The first season of Peacock’s comedy Based on a True Story ends with its protagonists in a precarious position. Married couple Nathan (Chris Messina) and pregnant Ava (Kaley Cuoco) are discussing baby names as they mop up the blood of their friend Ruby (Priscilla Quintana) who was murdered by their business partner Matt (Tom Bateman), a serial killer they recruited to make a podcast. And then Simon (Aaron Staton), Ruby’s husband walks in on them. “Who’s blood is that?” he says. The credits roll.
It’s a shocker of a cliffhanger from creator Craig Rosenberg, but one that excited Messina. “I was happy to think, ‘Oh, maybe we get to do more and I could explore going even darker and further into the kind of vortex with Nathan,'” he tells The Hollywood Reporter.

It’s been more than 25 years since The Full Monty crew bared it all for the entertainment of Sheffield’s citizens, and now they’re back, a little older and no wiser than they were before, in FX’s newly-released limited series. Among the original crew back onscreen are Gaz (Robert Carlyle), Dave (Mark Addy), and Jean (Lesley Sharp) who are still dealing with day-to-day challenges faced in a city where struggle still abounds. Below, we’re breaking down all the need-to-know details about their stories as you prepare to dive back into the story once again helmed by film Simon Beaufoy. Gaz Gets More Involved (Credit: Ben Blackall/FX) As fans of the original film may recall, Gaz struggled to give his son Nathan the life he deserved, turning to stripping as a way to make ends meet. Now that Nathan’s grown up, Gaz is a grandpa to...

The entire cast of 1997’s feel-good hit “The Full Monty” is back for Hulu’s new series of the same name — even Wim Snape, who played young Nathan at age 11, returns to play the much more sensible son of Robert Carlyle’s charming but unreliable Gaz. But some things are different this time around as the crew reunites for the Hulu sequel series (which drops June 14), with Oscar-nominated scripter Simon Beaufoy co-writing with Alice Nutter.
The series finds the crew still trying various get-rich schemes with mixed to dismal results. The movie, which saw the unemployed steelworkers of Sheffield secretly becoming strippers to raise some cash — and their low self-esteem —ended on a high as the lads gave the enthusiastic hometown audience “the full monty,” that is, full frontal nudity.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Based on a True Story Season 1.] Peacock’s new series Based on a True Story takes the true crime genre and flips it on its twisted head in this dramedy thriller starring Kaley Cuoco, Chris Messina, and Tom Bateman. If you have yet to tune into the series, we suggest turning back now as we’re about to dive into some season-shattering spoilers. For those who did binge the series, you’d know that married couple Ava (Cuoco) and Nathan (Messina) attempted to blackmail their plumber Matt (Bateman) into doing a podcast with them after uncovering the fact that he’s a wanted serial killer. Agreeing to the endeavor, the season sees them put together episodes, and their lives become increasingly entangled. It is a usual night in LA. An attractive, confident-looking young brunette woman is casually practicing zumba inside her classy apartment. All of a sudden, she hears a strange knock on her door. But there’s no one outside. She gets back to business—until she sees this big, shadowy figure in the mirror, standing right behind her.
You know what happened next, as you have voraciously binge-watched Peacock’s Based on a True Story recently and now can’t stop obsessing over it. The crime comedy is slowly becoming all the rage thanks to its highly thrilling storyline, laced with a lot of humor. The simultaneously addictive and funny show has played it boldly by revealing its serial killer in the very first episode. But it has (I bet intentionally) left enough doubts for us to draw many theories, implying that Matt Pierce, the plumber, is not the serial killer.

A slow-burning, sensual story whose rich visual and auditory landscape imprints itself on the brain as it explores issues around family, legacy and people’s relationships to land, The Ones You Didn’t Burn was one of the more memorable offerings from the festival circuit over the past year. It marked the arrival of a new talent in Elise Finnerty, who had made shorts before but struck out in a bold new direction with this. She also stars in it, as Alice, one of a pair of farmhands (alongside her filmmaking partner Estelle Girard Parks) who may also be witches, and whose presence complicates the relationship between struggling addict Nathan (Nathan Wallace) and his estranged sister Mirra (Jenna Rose Sander) as they return to the area to decide what to do with land they have inherited from their father.

First of all, let me just applaud the top-notch product placement. I want a Pixel 7 after this. And I am saying that when I am about to buy a new Samsung in a few weeks or so. I’m talking about Peacock’s Based on a True Story, which can very well be passed off as an eight-hour-long Google Pixel commercial. I am obviously kidding, but I also can’t help but appreciate how seamlessly they have blended the latest Pixel device into the narrative and made a show out of it.

So much happens over the course of just eight episodes of Based on a True Story. Peacock’s latest comedic thriller oscillates between its two genres, and I have to say that it delivers on both fronts. While it initially suggests a neat wrap-up by the end of the season, it actually leaves you with a humongous cliffhanger. I would be simultaneously surprised and disappointed if we didn’t get another season of this after that ending. Time will tell whether that is happening or not, but for now, let us get into what happens in Season 1.

Review: The only thing that is getting more tiresome than true-crime series are the projects that try to develop a twist on the already twist-heavy genre. While adaptations of actual criminal cases and murderers have not slowed down in recent years, there has been a new crop of fictional tales focused on average people obsessed with true crime and involved in the investigation themselves. Is America’s obsession with true crime unhealthy?
Craig Rosenberg’s “Based on a True Story” asks, but doesn’t answer. To be fair, it’s a disproportionately heavy lift for a half-hour dark comedy about a husband and wife who start a podcast with an actual, active murderer — the kind of premise that should promise ludicrous hijinks without too much moral interrogation — but the show can’t help spotlighting and then sweeping away its own weaknesses.
Kaley Cuoco and Chris Messina star as Ava and Nathan, a Los Angeles couple living just outside of the life they covet and with a baby on the way. When Nathan loses his job, Ava harnesses her true crime obsession by suggesting they start a podcast with the new acquaintance she has identified as the “West Side Ripper” — a serial killer tearing through women in the area.

True crime meets comedy in Peacock‘s new dark and twisty series Based on a True Story, which, despite the title, isn’t in fact based on a true story. Starring Kaley Cuoco, Chris Messina, Tom Bateman, and others, the show sees the lives of a realtor, plumber, and former tennis star collide in unexpected ways. Their collision also exposes America’s obsession with true crime and murder, which sends them on one hell of an adventure. In the series, Cuoco plays Ava, the wife to Messina’s Nathan, and “they are kind of struggling in their marriage,” she says. “Things are stale, they’re losing money. He lost his job, she’s not doing well. They have a baby on the way.” (Credit: Peacock) Their outlook turns around when they meet Bateman’s Matt, a plumber working in Los Angeles. He’s “a kind of everyman guy,” Bateman says of his character.

Murder is no joke — except when it is — in Peacock’s entirely fictional Based on a True Story, a hilariously fast-paced, made-for-bingeing send-up of America’s bloodthirsty appetite for true-crime stories. “Do we have to wake up to murder every morning?” moans long-ago tennis champ Nathan (Chris Messina) to his podcast-obsessed pregnant wife Ava (Kaley Cuoco), a realtor who, like Nathan, has somehow taken the off-ramp from Los Angeles’ fast lane. Envious of the wealthy friends in their vapid social circle, who all live for the latest Dateline dirt, the couple senses the possibility for fame and fortune when they think they’ve discovered the identity of the Westside Ripper, a serial killer who has been terrorizing their neighborhood. Roping a handsome plumber named Matt (the charismatic Tom Bateman) into their get-rich-by-milking-murder scheme, Ava and Nathan are soon over their heads in a farcical moral quandary. Emmy nominee Kaley Cuoco (The Flight Attendant) and Chris Messina (The Boogeyman) star in Peacock’s new summer series Based on a True Story. Described as a dark comedic thriller, Based on a True Story comes from Craig Rosenberg (The Boys) and is set to premiere on Thursday, June 8, 2023.
“Over the last decade, a true crime phenomenon has swept over America. Podcasts, documentaries, fictional shows based on true stories – they dominate the culture. Murderers have become celebrities and celebrities have become murderers which inspired me to create this show,” explained Rosenberg.
He continued: “I became fascinated with the idea of a relatable married couple whose youthful dreams hadn’t come to fruition and who saw the true crime tidal wave as an opportunity to change their lives and save their marriage. Our Los Angeles setting – the city where everybody wants to be famous – became a vivid backdrop to our story of fame,...

The biggest challenge in filming Peacock’s dark comedy thriller Based on a True Story? Getting stars Kaley Cuoco and Chris Messina to stop laughing in between takes.
“They’re so funny together,” director and executive producer Alexander Buono told The Hollywood Reporter at the show’s Thursday night premiere. “Honestly, the hardest thing was to get them to stop laughing so we could shoot the scene. My role to direct them was often [that I had to] be the wet blanket.”
“We drove people crazy,” Cuoco agrees. “We laughed all the time. We were the duo that we didn’t even know that we needed. He’s hysterical, he’s kind, he’s fun and also just a wonderful person on set. He takes care of everyone, we both do. It’s important to us and it was a great match.”

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the May 23 episode of Jeopardy!] 2-day Jeopardy! champion Diandra D’Alessio had to contend with C-17 loadmaster Nathan Dennis and investment associate Ilhana Redzovic to continue her streak and increase her $15,700 total. However, both competitors dominated most of the game, making the champ’s continuing streak harder to keep than anticipated after a literary-related triple stumper during Final Jeopardy. Heading into Double Jeopardy “after a word from our sponsors,” as host Mayim Bialik noted, Diandra had $2,000, Ilhana at $6,800, and Nathan with $2,600. Ilhana scored a true Daily Double beforehand, edging her into the lead before the second round. However, when Nathan scored the second Daily Double of the game, he added $1,356 to his total of $7,400, putting him in second place behind Ilhana. His lead was short-lived, though, as Ilhana was able to correctly answer the third Daily Double to secure her lead going into Final Jeopardy. The score was $21,000 in her favor, $10,756 for Nathan, ...

In the final scene of Tom Stoppard’s latest play, Leopoldstadt, which follows generations of a Jewish family living in Vienna from the late 1800s through World War II and its aftermath, a stand-in for the playwright himself makes an appearance.
The character, named Leo, fled Vienna during the war as a child, and now, in 1955, returns to the city as a proud 24-year-old Englishman, with an anglicized name, and with few memories of his time in the city and of his Jewish heritage. He reunites with long-lost relatives, who force him to confront the truth of what happened to his family during the war.
“No one is born eight years old. Leonard Chamberlain’s life is Leo Rosenbaum’s life continued. His family is your family. But you live as if without history, as if you throw no shadow behind you,” says his cousin, Nathan.
