Chicago – Lionsgate and After Dark Films’ recently released their third collection of “8 Films to Die For” and this year proved to be the most uninspiring octet to date. With fewer risks taken than the last two years and less extreme failures or successes, “After Dark Horrorfest III” is terrifyingly dull.
Overall DVD Rating: 2.0/5.0 What makes this year’s collection rather forgettable is the lack of extremes on either side of the rating spectrum. The first two years produced some truly excellent genre gems including “Borderland,” “The Hamiltons,” and “The Abandoned.” At the same time, movies like “Dead Lake,” “Undead,” and “Nightmare Man” should be buried in a deep hole and never see the light of day again.
I have to admit that I liked the variety in quality of the last two years more than this year, when nearly every film registered as forgettable more than good or bad. There was one notable standout,...

Alright, I'm finally done Lionsgate's After Dark Horrorfest III box and I'm glad to report the films all manage to stay consistently entertaining.

From Within is not a perfect film by any means but it's easily the best movie from the After Dark Horrorfest III line-up. On the surface, it's about a suicide curse that infects an intensely religious small town in Southern America but there is a strong subtext about how fear and religious fervor can make people do unimaginable evil. Actually, it's very similar to the basic theme running through The Mist and as I watched it I thought to myself that this would be the kind of story that Stephen King would like.

Fango got a first look at cover art for the Weinstein Company and Genius Products’ DVD release of Martyrs. Surprisingly, Pascal Laugier’s much-talked-about gorefest will be going out under the Weinstein label, not as one of its Dimension Extreme titles.
The movie, in which two young women confront torturous terrors in their past and present, will nonetheless be uncut and unrated when it hits DVD April 28. Special features, if any, have yet to be announced; we’ll keep you posted. See our exclusive set report on Martyrs and interview with writer/director Laugier in Fango #281, on sale in February.
We also got the initial news from Lionsgate Home Entertainment about special features for its After Dark Horrorfest titles coming March 31 (see covers and pre-order links here). All of the movies will be presented in widescreen with Dolby Digital 5.1 audio, accompanied by Miss Horrorfest webisodes. As of now, the most...

After Dark Films have shared out a sneak peek into "Slaughter (2009)", one of the selections for After Dark Horrorfest III's "8 Films to Die for". Highlighting that the movie is inspired by true events happening in a remote farm near Atlanta, the newly-released trailer gives the idea that the movie will be violent, gruesome and unthinkable.
Opened with a far shot of a serene farm house, the trailer moves on showing that a young woman is answering an ads for roommate. It then continues showing that the woman is quick to befriend her new roommate when she settles down at the farm. But, soon she discovers that something has gone wrong at the remote place and that it offers terrifying forms of abuse.
Directed by Stewart Hopewell, "Slaughter" stars Antonia Bernath, Craig Robert Young, Lucy Holt, Maxim Knight and David Sterne. The horror movie will be premiered at After Dark Horrorfest...

The official After Dark Horror Fest III: 8 Films To Die For site has once again been updated with some new trailerage, this time for Stewart Hopewell's based-on-true-events horror film Slaughter.
A young woman thinks she is leaving her abusive life behind when she moves to Atlanta and ends up living at her family farm. She quickly learns that abuse comes in even crueler forms.
The trailer starts off pretty slow and looks sort of cheaply made at first but thankfully it really picks up by the end. It does not, however, live up to whatever's going on in that sweet poster.

After Dark Films breaks new ground in its 2009 edition of the "8 Films to Die For" Horrorfest. Rather than enter its third year (running January 9th - 15th) with more acquisitions, After Dark head Courtney Solomon and his team filtered two original horror film productions into the mix. Perkins' 14 was one (a joint venture with Massify.com), the other was Stewart Hopewell's Slaughter . An art and film major hailing from Virginia, Hopewell makes his feature directing debut with the latter, a calculatedly bipolar experience (so says its director). With the holidays upon us and the 9th closing in, ShockTillYouDrop.com got a chance to connect with Hopewell to learn more about his film - he was optimistic, confident and well in tune with knowing when to hold back from...

You'll find the poster for that, along with one for The Butterfly Effect 3: Revelations, which is also playing in next year's After Dark Horror Fest, which runs January 9-15 nationwide. In Sluaghter, a young woman thinks she is leaving her abusive life behind when she moves to Atlanta and ends up living at her family farm. She quickly learns that abuse comes in even crueler forms.

The third edition of After Dark Horrorfest, dubbed "8 Films to Die For," will take place in theaters nationwide on Jan. 2-9, After Dark Films CEO Courtney Solomon announced Wednesday.
After Dark first put together a weeklong package of horror films in 2006, grossing more than $2.5 million.
The latest addition to its 2008 lineup is Phedon Papamichael's "From Within," starring Elizabeth Rice, Thomas Dekker, Kelly Blatz, Laura Allen, Adam Goldberg and Rumer Willis. The film, which premiered at this year's Tribeca Film Festival, is set in a small community hit by a rash of suicides.
After Dark Films has produced three of the films that will be featured in the Horrorfest: Stewart Hopewell's "Slaughter," Craig Singer's "Perkins 14" and Seth Grossman's "The Butterfly Effect: Revelation."
Sean Ellis' psychological thriller "The Broken" has also been selected.
The remaining three films will be announced shortly.

We first spotted the new poster for After Dark's 8 Films to Die For (official site) at this year's Sdcc. It was pretty hot then, but it is even better now that we've got an official hi-rez image of it!
Hot damn on a stick of holy fuck! That would make one sweet tattoo. Oh yeah, there's some skin and boobage too, I guess... Anyway, the third Horrorfest kicks off in January, and so far we know of three titles out of the eight: Broken, Slaughter (formerly Faithless) and Perkins' 14.
Perkins' 14, directed by Craig Singer, follows the strangeness of one Mr. Robert Perkins, who has built a brigade of 14 brainwashed bodyguards. All does not go well, however, as Perkins is kidnapped and his drones will do anything to see him safe ... anything.
Slaughter, or Faithless if you want, tells the tale of an abused woman seeking refuge from her...
