1972.

1950-1952: Worked at the Danish embassy in Washington D.C.
1953-1957: Secretary of the economy and labour.
1957-1958: Secretary of foreign trade.
1958-62: Secretary of foreign affairs.
1962-1972: Leader of Denmark's Social Democratic Party.
Resigned as Prime Minister on October 3rd 1972 the day after the Danish
people voted in favour of joining the EEC. His resignation came as a
big surprise to both his cabinet and the general public.
