“I’m so happy for her to win,” Chanelle says of Desi’s victory. “I didn’t start this game wanting to make friends. I somehow did. Cassidy Clark became the 15th contestant eliminated from “The Challenge: USA” on Thursday night, following her loss to Chanelle Howell in the arena. In a not-so-classic version of “Hall Brawl,” the opponents smashed into each other in a narrow hallway and then had to complete a puzzle. Chanelle finished the fastest, sending the “Survivor 43” runner-up packing just before the season finale. Watch our exclusive video interview with the eliminated contestant above.
“It’s so bittersweet,” she tells Gold Derby senior editor Denton Davidson. “I was really proud of everything that I had done in the game. Having to fight that hard just to come up short of making the final was pretty devastating. I was in a lot of shock when it happened because it was over so quickly. Before I blinked I was out. At the same time, I had practice in losing right at the end in an epic way on ‘Survivor.

Michele Fitzgerald became the 14th contestant eliminated from “The Challenge: USA” on Thursday night, following her loss to Cassidy Clark in the arena. In the game “Hot Wheel,” Cassidy was the first to torch all six of her targets and sent the “Survivor 32” champ packing by a score of 6-1. “I was so mentally and emotionally checked out at that point,” Michele tells Gold Derby senior editor Denton Davidson. “When you go in you have to have a fire to come back into the game.” Prior to the arena Michele got into a heated fight with Michaela Bradshaw, with whom she clashed all season. “She plays the game super logically and I play really emotionally,” she reveals. “We always wanted the same end goal, but it’s how we got there. Michele Fitzgerald lucked out, for the most part, in playing both the Survivor and vets side in The Challenge: USA Season 2… until she didn’t. After doing what was best for her game with the previous vote and not putting Tori Deal‘s name in the hopper (but rather Chris Underwood‘s) and lying to Desi Williams and Chanelle Howell, Michele was one of the players nominated for elimination this week. (Chris and Desi won the daily.) Cassidy Clark, with seven votes, was the one whose name came out of the hopper, and she beat Michele in Hot Wheel: They had to use a steering wheel to light their color targets. Here, Michele talks about her time on The Challenge: USA, why you shouldn’t expect to see much different about her when she competes in Battle for a New Champion (premiering October 25 on MTV), and more. The latest elimination and going home was “definitely bittersweet” for one of the two Challenge: USA players sent home. It was a double elimination week, so along with Wes Bergmann retiring from The Challenge after his loss to Chris Underwood, Alyssa Snider exited after facing off against Cassidy Clark in the arena. Emotions were running high with those two departures, so TV Insider caught up with Alyssa to take us inside that, find out where she and Tyler Crispen stand, and more. Talk about that elimination. Is there anything you think you could have done differently? Alyssa Snider: It was so hard and scary. Being harnessed 30 feet in the air and having to street fight my way out of there is just so not my personality. I remember being up there and — you could even hear me — saying the whole time, “Just keep swimming. You got it. Just keep going.

Since it might only take one ball in the hopper to send someone down to elimination on The Challenge: USA, having six in there is just asking for trouble. Such was the case for Sebastian Noel. What didn’t help him: He tried campaigning to get votes for Cory Wharton to face Chris Underwood, one of the nominations by daily winners Tori Deal and Faysal Shafaat. (The other was Cassidy Clark.) He then tried to blame Chris, already in hot water with everyone in the house for telling people different things. The two competed in Trick, Trick, Boom, in which they had to bounce balls across panels into barrels. Chris won. Below, Sebastian talks his (failed) strategy, relationship with Tori, and more. Things got messy in the house in this episode, especially as people campaigned for who others should vote for. And you tried to get people to vote for Cory,...

It only took one vote to send Alyssa Lopez home in The Challenge: USA Season 2. In “Operation Hat Trick,” named after the vets’ big move, the focus turned from vets vs. rookies to Big Brother vs. Survivor. After Green Team won the daily and nominated Chris Underwood and Cassidy Clark for elimination, Johnny “Bananas” DeVenanzio, Tori Deal, Josh Martinez, Cory Wharton, and Faysal Shafaat put five names in a hat and randomly picked one as their votes. That was the only vote for Lopez, but her ball came out of the hopper, and so she faced off against Clark and lost in Block Heads. CBS has released 44 seasons of Survivor since 2000, and with that many iterations of the reality competition series, some are bound to be flops. The producers are constantly trying new things, leading to massive success (re: hidden immunity idols), and others have been complete hits and misses (re: Edge of Extinction). But bad twists and themes aren’t the only contributors to the criteria of the show’s worst seasons; sometimes, a cast can lead to a season’s downfall. Read on for our five least favorite Survivor competitions.

The rumors are true. Sandra Diaz-Twine‘s daughter Alanna “Nina” Twine is back when “Australian Survivor” returns for its 10th season on Network 10. The iconic duo played together last year on “Blood V Water,” but Nina had to be medevaced when she hurt her ankle. Now, the show is producing a “Heroes V Villains” installment with Nina on the Heroes tribe (Queen Sandra is not participating). Scroll through our gallery above (or click here for direct access) to see the “Australian Survivor: Heroes V Villains” cast photos for all 24 participants.
This “Heroes V Villains” installment is scheduled to premiere on January 30, 2023, with 11 returning players and 13 new castaways divided into two tribes based on how they live their lives or how they previously played the game, either as Heroes or Villains. It’s based on the popular 20th season of the American version of the show, which Villains tribe member Sandra ultimately won.

It was one of the most shocking results in “Survivor” history: Mike Gabler claimed the million dollars and title of Sole Survivor. After dominant players Jesse Lopez and Karla Cruz Godoy fell short, the heart valve specialist from Houston was able to best the likable and challenge dominant Cassidy Clark and Owen Knight with the jury. It has left “Survivor” viewers surprised and, in some cases, outraged. But he did tell us he was “hiding in plain sight.” So stop whining. I think he’s a worthy winner of the game I’ve loved for 43 seasons. And here are five reasons why Mike Gabler deserved to win.
1. He wowed the jury
In a game of increasing twists, advantages and idols, “Survivor” is a complicated game. But for 43 seasons the way to win has remained incredibly simple. You only need to do two things: get to the end and get the most jury votes.

“Survivor” winner Mike Gabler said he will donate his entire million-dollar prize to the charity Veterans in Need during Wednesday’s Season 43 finale.
The 52-year-old heart valve specialist made history as the second-oldest player to win the title of sole survivor. He also made history as the first to donate the entirety of his paycheck to charity.
“There are people that need that money more,” he told “Survivor” host Jeff Probst. “I’m going to donate the entire prize, the entire million-dollar prize in my father’s name, Robert Gabler, who was a Green Beret, to Veterans in Need, who are struggling from psychiatric problems, Ptsd, and to curb the suicide epidemic.”

On the December 14 season finale of “Survivor 43,” Mike Gabler won the 1 million grand prize by a 7-1-0 vote over Cassidy Clark and Owen Knight. The 52-year-old heart valve specialist from Meridian, Idaho played an under-the-radar game at the merge, particularly after Elisabeth “Elie” Scott called him out at tribal council as someone that should be targeted. Well, they didn’t listen to her, and now Gabler has become a millionaire — at least temporarily.
Gabler announced during the reunion show that he was going to “make history” on “Survivor” by donating his prize money to charity. “There are people that need that money more,” he explained to host Jeff Probst. “I’m going to donate the entire prize, the entire million dollars, in my father’s name Robert Gabler, who’s a Green Beret, to Veterans In Need.” The charity helps veterans who are dealing with psychiatric problems including Ptsd and curbs the suicide epidemic.

After 26 days of swollen ankles, last gasps and shocking betrayals, the winner of “Survivor 43” was crowned during the December 14 season finale on CBS. (Read our minute-by-minute live blog to see how it all went down.). The episode began with just the Top 5 finalists left in the running to win the 1 million prize: Cassidy Clark, Mike Gabler, Jesse Lopez, Karla Cruz Godoy and Owen Knight. But only one of them had what it took to outwit, outplay and outlast the others and join the “Survivor” winners list.
By the end of the second hour, Karla and Jesse had both been eliminated from the game, leaving the Top 3 castaways to face the jury. Host Jeff Probst then read the jury votes aloud in dramatic fashion. Gabler ended up winning the title of Sole Survivor with seven votes, while Cassidy came in second place with one vote and Owen placed third with zero votes.

Following last week’s shocking elimination of Cody Assenmacher from “Survivor 43,” just the Top 5 players remained in the running to win the 1 million grand prize. Of this group, only Jesse Lopez still possessed a hidden immunity idol, which theoretically secured him a place in the Final 4. The other four players — Cassidy Clark, Mike Gabler, Karla Cruz Godoy and Owen Knight — had to rely on immunity challenges and their social games to make it to the end. So which castaway did host Jeff Probst have the pleasure of anointing as the Sole Survivor of Season 43?

All season long, Gold Derby readers have been making their predictions for who they think will take home the 1 million grand prize on “Survivor 43.” With just hours left to go before the season finale airs December 14 on CBS, the overwhelming favorite to win is Jesse Lopez. This 30-year-old survey methodologist from North Carolina was solely responsible for ousting his biggest threat, Cody Assenmacher, during the penultimate episode. Jesse also holds a secret immunity idol that should theoretically bring him to the Final 4, at which case he’d truly be vulnerable for the first time ever.
Here are Gold Derby’s current “Survivor 43” winner predictions for the Top 5:
1. Jesse Lopez — 23/50 odds
2. Karla Cruz Godoy — 8/1 odds
3. Cassidy Clark — 10/1 odds
4. Owen Knight — 12/1 odds
5. Mike Gabler — 28/1 odds

If you’re taking bets on which of the final five on “Survivor 43” is going to make it to the three chairs at the final tribal council, your safest bet is Owen Knight. And yet if you’re betting on who is the most likely to actually win, put him at the bottom of your list. Left out from the majority in many post-merge votes and without much agency to make decisions, Owen has been the string-along goat of the season. Still, we think he’s locked and loaded to make it to the end. Below, we take a look at why he we don’t think he’ll win in our “Survivor 43” finale spotlight.

With two immunity and one fire-making challenge left to play out in the “Survivor 43” finale, wins are going to be a huge factor in determining who takes home the million dollar prize. Having already proven herself as a threat in both physical and mental challenges and coming off the heels of an important immunity win at final six, Cassidy Clark is poised to mount a late-game challenge streak that could turn the heads of the jury. She is the best dark horse candidate to win. Below, we take a look at how she could pull it off in our “Survivor 43” finale spotlight.
Cassidy’s journey to the final five has been one of the quieter ones. Her early game was defined mostly by her antagonizing of tribe mate Ryan Medrano and the vengeance she sought against him for voting for her week five. When the merge hit, Cassidy fell into...

Up until a few weeks ago, Karla Cruz Godoy was one of the most powerful players in “Survivor 43,” but poor decisions and ill-conceived lies have left her at the back of the pack heading in to Wednesday’s finale. Tricked into playing her immunity idol a week too early and deceived by her now former allies, Karla goes into the final five without protection and seen as the least trustworthy player left. In order to make it to the final tribal council she’ll need to repair the damage. Below, we take a look at where she might find support in our “Survivor 43” finale spotlight.
Two weeks running Karla’s name has come up as the person that needs to be taken out, but she’s still in the game with only two tribal councils to go until the end. Much of her threat level was based on her close...

Call us crazy, but we actually see a path for Mike Gabler to win “Survivor 43.” From starting the season getting on everyone’s nerves to now flying under the radar by “hiding in plain sight,” Gabler has mounted one of the most unlikely runs to finale night in recent memory. But all along he’s been quietly planting the seeds to instigate other players to make the loud moves that have kept him safe. Below, we take a look at how telling this story could earn him the win in our “Survivor 43” finale spotlight.
Having fallen off the radar (intentionally!) since his original tribe nemesis Jeanine Zheng became the first member of the jury, Gabler has good odds of being one of the three players to argue their case at the final tribal council. Going into the final five, both Karla Cruz Godoy and Cassidy Clark were the names being...

Let’s not beat around the bush — when Jesse Lopez pulled off the blindside of the season against his number one ally Cody Assenmacher in the penultimate episode of “Survivor 43,” he not only became the clear front-runner to win, but also a likable villain on par with masterminds Parvati Shallow and Sandra Diaz-Twine. Like them, can he also come out on top and win the million dollar prize despite backstabbing jurors? We think so. Below, we take a look at how he’s going to get there in our “Survivor 43” finale spotlight.
Jesse worked closely with Cody since the beginning of the game, systematically playing the fence between competing forces where together they had ties on both sides. At the start of the merge, they decided to equalize Noelle Lambert‘s growing power in the game by taking out her closest ally at the time, Dwight Moore — both Noelle and...

Top Moments of Episode 12:
1. Post Tribal Shenanigans: The name of Sami Layadi was still on the lips of the remaining contestants but Owen Knight was very much aware that a bigger move was needed to separate the power duo that is Karla Cruz Godoy and Cassidy Clark. An astute Karla, when confronted by Cassidy, turned on the emotions. Jesse Lopez seemed quite unbothered by all of this and told Cassidy the truth.
