Hell, yeah. If we're on the hook for a months-long hiatus while production resumes, Quantum Leap Season 2 Episode 8 is exactly the note you want to hit with the midseason finale.
Exciting. Satisfying. Tantalizing.
Showrunners, take note: Sending your cast and crew to Egypt not only creates immense authenticity, it showcases your performers' talent and script strength. Gold star to all y'all!
Having Addison back in the holo-guide role fools us into thinking that we're veering back toward Quantum Leap Season 1's status quo when, in fact, Ben's comment about not being in Kansas anymore is applicable across the board.
Office romances are always awkward when the intimacy ends, but the working relationship continues. Kudos to Ben and Addison for trying to make it work despite the bonkers transformation their life together has undergone.
In the background, Addison finding the [potential] engagement ring is a clever red herring to make the reveal...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Quantum Leap Season 2 Episode 8 “Nomad.”] Is Ben (Raymond Lee) finally going to be able to come home? There’s hope at the end of the latest episode of Quantum Leap. Just as Addison (Caitlin Bassett) thinks Tom (Peter Gadiot) is about to propose (she found a ring), he instead reveals that something was found on a fragment of a hard drive of the discontinued Darpa project: a way to bring Ben home. TV Insider spoke with those who star as the Quantum Leap project’s team members — Ernie Hudson (Magic), Mason Alexander Park (Ian), and Nanrisa Lee (Jenn) — to find out how they feel about that (can they trust it?) and more. Tom tells Addison that there may be a way to bring Ben home, but given that the team has been trying to figure out a way to do just that, and now, sure they like Tom, but this...

The world of espionage isn’t all fun and games.
That’s the lesson Ben learned in Quantum Leap‘s midseason finale on Wednesday, which took him to Giza, Egypt in the year 1961. After landing in the body of Michael, a spy from London, he was tasked with helping Layla (guest star Azita Ghanizada), an East German spy, escape the city so he could make his next leap.

The two major elements that set this sequel series apart from its predecessor are its ensemble cast and their thoroughly nuanced backstories.
Those pieces have never shone as brightly as on Quantum Leap Season 2 Episode 5.
We've known since the premiere that circumstances have changed in Magic's life, but we learn so much more about the calm and steady project leader here. It's quite remarkable, and Ernie Hudson's performance is riveting.
It shouldn't come as a surprise that Magic would jump in as hologuide with Addison benched.
Magic has always felt responsible for Ben's leap, even though no one except Ben and Janis knew about it before it happened. However, since Magic restarted the program, he indirectly created the circumstances that separated Ben from Addison.
Furthermore, with Al gone, Magic remains the closest connection to Sam Beckett at HQ, having hosted Sam when Sam leaped into the Vietnam War to save his brother,...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Quantum Leap Season 2 Episode 5 “One Night in Koreatown.”] Not only does Magic (Ernie Hudson) serve as Ben’s (Raymond Lee) hologram in the latest Quantum Leap episode, but we also find out just how the former was affected when the latter was missing for three years. Earlier this season, Ian (Mason Alexander Park) and Jenn (Nanrisa Lee) found Magic picking out a gift for an anniversary after Ben popped up again. Now, it’s confirmed that Magic has been seeing Beth (Susan Diol), widow of the original series‘ Al (Dean Stockwell). In fact, at the beginning of the latest episode, he’s making “a special breakfast for a special lady for a special day” and gives her the earrings for their first date anniversary. He’s also made a reservation at her favorite restaurant — ...

This article contains spoilers for Quantum Leap season 2 episode 5.
When the new Quantum Leap series debuted, a bomb was dropped on longtime fans of the sci-fi series. Al (Dean Stockwell) had died off screen in the years between shows. This of course was done since Stockwell had passed away before the new Quantum Leap had gone into production. Thankfully the character wasn’t forgotten as Al’s wife Beth (Susan Diol) made several appearances in season one which helped provide a wonderful link to the first series.
In the most recent episode of the second season, “One Night in Koreatown,” Beth makes another appearance where it’s confirmed that she and Magic (Ernie Hudson) are in a relationship. A crucial part of what brought them together was, in the years after seemingly losing Ben in time, Magic became an alcoholic. Beth specifically draws a comparison between Magic and Al, stating...

“Quantum Leap” is traveling back to the 1992 LA riots in Wednesday’s new episode.
In an exclusive clip shared with TheWrap, Ben (Raymond Lee) lands in the body of 18-year-old Daniel Park, a first generation Korean American teenager working at his father’s shoe store in Los Angeles’ Koreatown. Jumping to 1992 alongside Magic (Ernie Hudson), the pair learn they have been transported to the day when all four officers involved in the beating of Rodney King were acquitted of assault, with three of the four acquitted of using excessive force.
“I remember watching the riots on TV — how unfair that verdict was to the Black community and how angry people were over it,” Ben told Magic as he realizes his new surroundings. “I remember the rooftop Koreans trying to protect their businesses … I can’t possibility be here to stop all that right?”
Instead, Magic informs Ben that amid the riots prompted Daniel’s father,...

Slamdance has announced the winners of its annual screenplay competition, with Mike Ackerman’s feature-length script “This End Up” winning the grand prize.
Slamdance announced the awards — recognizing writers across the categories of feature film, horror/thriller, TV pilot, short film and a special mentorship award — during a ceremony held at Los Angeles’s Westwood Landmark Theater on Wednesday night. In total, the organization gave out more than $18,000 in prizes and industry services.
Per the official synopsis of “This End Up,” Ackerman’s winning screenplay follows “a sheltered man who lives his life quite literally, and physically, upside-down. When he finally meets a woman who accepts him as he is, her closed-minded family plants doubt as to whether his condition will stand in the way of her dream of an adventurous lifestyle.”

This article contains spoilers for Quantum Leap season 2 episode 4 and the finale of the original Quantum Leap series.
“Dr. Sam Beckett never returned home.”
These are the words that ended the original Quantum Leap series. Sam (Scott Bakula), who’d been leaping from life to life, was informed in the final episode that he finally had control over his leaps. That he could leap home if he wanted to. The thought of this tempted Sam but instead he leapt back in time to help his longtime friend, Al (Dean Stockwell.) What happened to Sam after that has remained a mystery, with the final title card informing us Sam never got home being our only clue.

It takes some true dialogue-forging skill to drop tiny details into conversation without drawing a lot of attention only to become incredibly significant later on.
Quantum Leap Season 2 Episode 2 is rife with finesse as it pilots Ben through a classic catastrophe-aversion leap while providing catch-up on the lives of the rest of the Ql team.
Moreover, it introduces Peter Gadiot's character, Tom Westfall, in a benevolently ambiguous manner. While his appearance bears little likeness to his recent One Piece character, I suspect Tom will be just as full of surprises.
It goes to show how well the show's creators shaped the characters and relationships throughout Quantum Leap Season 1 that bringing a new face onto the team immediately triggers the stranger danger alert in our head.
Nothing about Tom's behavior indicates he is anything but supportive and understanding, but he sets off all sorts of alarms.
Largely, it's the fact...

The controversial yet blissful marriage of Magic and Cookie Johnson is really one to study. Their love story is the perfect example of how an unbreakable bond of love can weather any storm, no matter how critical. Magic Johnson, A.K.A Earvin Johnson Jr., is a renowned basketball legend. He has achieved incredible success on the court playing for the Los Angeles Lakers, especially during their 1980s Showtime period. However, his life took an unexpected turn when he announced in 1991 that he had contracted HIV. The cancellation of HBO’s “Winning Time” after two seasons did not come as a complete surprise to executive producer Kevin Messick. He, along with his fellow creatives, was told back in January to prep a version of the ending in case the show’s season finale became a series finale.
“There were never any guarantees in today’s marketplace of a subsequent season, so the planning for the ‘what if’ scenario — if this was not just a season finale but the series finale — was from the conversation we had back in January while we were still in production,” Messick, who also an executive producer on “Succession,” told Vulture in an interview released following the finale.
“We got a call from HBO. They said, ‘Think about it so that you have the option while you’re still in production to figure out how it might end if, sadly, that was the end of it.

Season 2 of “Winning Time” concluded Sunday evening with the Lakers’ devastating loss to the Celtics during the 1984 NBA finals, and as it turns out the episode serves as the series finale for the HBO series — the network announced Sunday night that it would not be moving forward with more seasons.
But that’s not to say future seasons weren’t already in mind for the show’s creators.
“In real life, the Lakers come back and beat the Celtics the next year. So that would absolutely be at the heart of any Season 3,” executive producer Kevin Messick told TheWrap during an interview conducted before the show’s fate had been determined. “In terms of the longevity of the show, there’s a lot more Laker stories to tell, a lot more characters, larger than life, as big and bigger than Magic [Johnson] and Kareem [Abdul-Jabbar] that have yet to enter onto the stage.

[This story contains spoilers from the finale of Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty season two.]
The name says it all when it comes to the title of episode one of season two of the HBO sports drama Winning Time: “One Ring Don’t Make a Dynasty.”
How the second season started — the Lakers celebrating their win over the Philadelphia 76ers in the 1980 NBA World Championship — isn’t how it ended: In the finale, the Celtics beat out the Lakers in the 1984 NBA Finals. But it’s the moments in between those defining games that give audiences a clearer picture of what the central players in the Lakers franchise were up against on and off the court.
Magic Johnson (Quincy Isaiah) and his relationship with then-on-again-off-again girlfriend Earlitha “Cookie” Kelly (Tamera Tomakili) was a focal point throughout season two, which began with the 6 foot, 9 inch pro baller finding out he’d fathered a child, his first son Andre Johnson,...

Actor Ishwak Singh, who is all set for the release of inspiring comedy ‘Tumse Na Ho Payega’, opened up about his character, calling it a fun film with dollops of humour. ‘Tumse Na Ho Payega’ is a fun light-hearted take on the modern-day challenges faced by today’s youth, and their dilemma in standing up to these ‘rules’ laid by the society, to instead follow their own path and dreams.
Standing up to society’s ‘log kya kahenge’ attitude are a group of young friends in the movie led by Ishwak and Gaurav Pandey. The 2 minute 29 seconds trailer, which was unveiled on Wednesday, shows the character of Ishwak (Gaurav) as a corporate employee, who is bored of his job. It further shows the bond between three friends, and Ishwak’s love interest.

There's a market for nostalgia, and NBC's cashed in big with its newest hit, Quantum Leap.
The 2022 revival of the popular 1980s Scott Bakula-anchored time travel series came in like a quantum accelerator, throwing everything and everyone into the mix.
While maintaining some temporal continuity with the original series, the new Quantum Leap introduced viewers to the team behind the project rather than just the leaper and his guide.
What is Quantum Leap about?
The initial twelve-episode order was quickly upped to a full eighteen-episode season, and the leaps got wilder as Dr. Ben Song (Raymond Lee) slowly regained his memories of why he took his unauthorized leap in the first place.
Guided by his workmate and fiancée, Addison (Caitlin Bassett), he managed to survive each leap into various individuals facing moments of crisis that would change their lives and the future.
In turn, Addison relied on the Q.

HBO's hit sports drama "Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty" returned for its second season on Aug. 6. The series, which centers around the Los Angeles Lakers, chronicles the team's Showtime era during the 1980s. It also dives into the players' personal lives. Considering Magic Johnson led the team to victory five times during this period, it's no surprise he's such a prominent character on the show. The second season recaps his early days as a father as he welcomes his son, Andre Johnson. Since "Winning Time" tends to dramatize a few details, you may be wondering about Magic's real-life kids.
It's true that Andre is Magic's first-born son. However, unlike the show, Andre's real mother isn't named Rhonda Mitchell, but Melissa Mitchell. She and Magic dated briefly and only welcomed one child together. A decade after Andre was born in 1981, Magic married his wife, Cookie Johnson, in 1991. A year later,...

In Episode 2 of HBO’s hit series “Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty,” Johnson returned to the court, but the team seemed to have found their own new tricks without the use of Magic.
It was a rocky return for Johnson, who struggled with getting back into his groove after his knee injury. And by the time he came back, the team had an entirely new synergy that Johnson seemingly couldn’t fit into. But that didn’t stop Johnson from making suggestions about the team’s roster, including saying it would be a good idea to trade Norm Nixon in for Nuggets star David “Skywalker” Thompson.
Between Johnson and Pat Riley’s secret practice sessions and Nixon talking crap about his teammates to the press, the second episode of “Winning Time” is just as drama-filled as its first.
Were the Lakers really out of sync once Earvin “Magic” Johnson made his return?...

In HBO’s “Winning Time,” Quincy Isaiah took on the “large task” of portraying Earvin “Magic” Johnson Jr. — often regarded as one of the greatest point guards of all time after helping the Lakers win five NBA championships across 13 seasons.
“I think being able to make it smaller, in terms of playing this person who just won a championship and who’s just dealing with life issues, I think that’s the way that I have to frame it… really taking this giant of a person and making him relatable to everyday people,” Isaiah told TheWrap. “The way that we are able to do that is with a great script and a great cast, but also just leaning into the humanity of these emotions that you see in Season 2.”

The phrase “they don’t make them like they used to” is thrown around a lot in the context of nostalgia, but in the case of the first teaser for Magic, it’s quite accurate. Imagine sitting around the TV with your family and seeing this commercial pop up on screen back in the 1970s. The simple but terrifying ad didn’t give away much about the actual plot, but it did instill a lot of traumatic nightmares for any young viewers that happened to catch it. The TV spot was so effective that it’s arguably scarier than the actual film; it wasn’t the straightforward horror story the teaser indicated but much more a psychological thriller. Released 45 years ago on November 8, 1978, Magic is an underappreciated classic and one of horror’s most unnerving love stories.

Three horror classics have just landed on the Bloody Disgusting-powered Screambox streaming service, which already is celebrating a massive August that kicked off with the Ghostbusters-inspired Ghastly Brothers.
Richard Attenborough’s Magic (1978) starring Anthony Hopkins and a psychotic ventriloquist dummy is the first of three movies added to Screambox, courtesy of Shout! Factory.
“Written by William Goldman, adapted from the novel he also wrote, Magic revolves around a ventriloquist seeking to renew a relationship with his former high school sweetheart,” Meagan Navarro previously wrote about the classic. “The only problem is that his dummy is the jealous type. That ventriloquist, Corky, is played by Anthony Hopkins. Unlike most killer doll horror movies, Magic favors the psychological, and Hopkins brings intensity to this twisted love story.”
She notes that this movie served as an inspiration for Don Mancini’s original Child’s Play screenplay and is currently celebrating its 45th anniversary!

Magic might be taking a dip in an ice bath, but he’s definitely feeling the heat this week on Winning Time.
TVLine has an exclusive sneak peek at this Sunday’s episode (HBO, 9/8c), and in it, Magic is in the ice bath when assistant coach Pat Riley comes in to ask him how he’s recovering from his knee injury. Magic insists he’s at 90 percent, but Riley is more pessimistic, putting it at more like 50 percent. If the head coach finds out he’s still hobbled, Magic will have to sit out games, but “you need that...

Before the LA Lakers had Kobe and Shaq, they had Magic and Kareem. Though the team, in many ways, is remembered and admired by younger generations for the early 2000s era that saw them win three consecutive NBA Championships, the Lakers are equally as known for the Showtime era of the 1970s and 1980s that turned the once struggling franchise into the dynasty it is today. The highs and lows of the Lakers during this time period, particularly from 1980 to 1984, are being explored in the second season of HBO's "Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty," which premiered Aug. 6.
Like many other shows that are based on factual events, "Winning Time" has garnered its fair share of pushback from those at the center of the story, namely Earvin "Magic" Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and former Lakers coach and Gm Jerry West. Despite receiving acclaim from critics and audiences for its stellar cast,...

Exclusive: Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty returned to HBO on Sunday with 629,000 total viewers tuning in for the Season 2 premiere across Max and linear telecasts.
That’s a bit of a fall from grace, considering the 901,000 people who tuned in for the Season 1 debut in March 2022. By May of that year, Season 1 managed to amass 1.6M same-day viewers for the finale.
HBO generally banks on the growth potential from delayed viewing, as the network previously reported that new episodes of a series tend to only draw 10%-20% of their total viewership on Sunday nights.
Season 1 episodes of Winning Time went on to average about 1.2M viewers per episode on premiere nights, which grew to 6M viewers per episode over time.

Spoiler Alert: This article contains spoilers for the Season 2 premiere of “Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty,” now streaming on Max.
The Los Angeles Lakers are on top of the world at the start of “Winning Time” Season 2. It doesn’t take long before they find themselves back on their asses.
After taking down the Philadelphia 76ers to win the 1980 NBA Finals, it’s no surprise that a championship would inflate some egos in Inglewood. Basking in the glow of a city’s adoration, Magic Johnson (Quincy Isaiah) finds himself a media darling, fielding fawning reporters that regularly overrun the Lakers locker room. It’s enough hot air to irk Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (Solomon Hughes) — who also hasn’t shaken the awkward disappointment of suffering a sprained ankle during the Finals. The team’s de facto leader watched from home as Johnson took over his position at center to clinch the championship.

Magic Johnson and the L.A. Lakers were riding high last season on HBO’s basketball drama Winning Time, winning the NBA title in Magic’s first pro season. But as Season 2 opens, they’re learning it’s not so easy staying on top.

Taylor Swift has taken over Los Angeles with a six-night run of her Eras Tour inside Inglewood’s SoFi Stadium. The shows draw tens of thousands of fans each, including a range of Hollywood A-listers. One of the attendees Saturday night was “Magic Mike” himself, Channing Tatum, who appeared to have been attending the show with his 10-year-old daughter, Evie.

Throughout the Season Two premiere of HBO’s basketball drama Winning Time, various characters, from Lakers assistant coach Pat Riley (Adrien Brody) to Boston Celtics general manager Red Auerbach (Michael Chiklis) talk about how difficult it is to repeat as champions. The real Riley would eventually refer to this as “the disease of more,” where players who were willing to sacrifice for the good of the team in pursuit of a title now want more playing time, more of a role in the offense, and/or more money.

She's Weird Barbie: She can do the splits, has a funky haircut, smells like basement, and now she can be yours! Mattel designer Javier Meabe has taken Kate McKinnon's breakout character from Greta Gerwig's "Barbie" film (read our glowing review here) and immortalized her as an official release as part of the Mattel Creations line. Weird Barbie is, of course, part of the Made to Move collection, which means she'll already be able to do the splits without needing to break her hip joints the way so many of us did as children.
There is a capitalist irony to Mattel making a doll that resembles the nightmarish results of being loved a little too rough, similarly to the way denim companies sell already distressed jeans, but I have no qualms admitting I smashed that pre-order button on Weird Barbie like I was attempting to beat the high striker at a summer carnival.

The Los Angeles Lakers’ heated rivalry with the hated Boston Celtics moves to center court in Season 2 of the pulpy series about the birth of purple-and-gold dynasty (premiering August 6 on HBO). Colorful playboy owner Jerry Buss (John C. Reilly) and his superstars — brash young buck Magic Johnson (Quincy Isaiah) and crusty captain Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (Solomon Hughes) — have established their fast-paced, high-flying brand of basketball, dubbed Showtime, transforming the beleaguered franchise from drab to glam and the NBA from an afterthought into a pop culture phenomenon. Now, can the Lakers defend their title and establish a new dynasty? The answer was no slam dunk. “Failure is difficult to deal with, but success in some ways is even harder,” says Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakes Dynasty cocreator Max Borenstein. “Are you going to be a flash in the pan? The challenges of truly becoming a dynasty are manifold.” Magic’s...

HBO’s “Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty” is back for Season 2, and it’s still electric and a damn good time. The first season, mostly spanning the 1979-1980 NBA calendar, unpacked the origins of Los Angeles Lakers owner Dr. Jerry Buss (a crass but delightful John C. Reilly) and exhaustively detailed the origins of the dynasty that he would build behind teen megastar Earvin “Magic” Johnson (Quincy Isaiah). A more rapidly paced second season addresses the following years, leading up to the highly-anticipated 1984 NBA Finals that positioned the Lakers against long-time rivals the Boston Celtics, led by Larry Bird (Sean Patrick Small).
Season 2 opens with the first game of that landmark championship series. It’s May 27, 1984, and a full-fledged mob scene is under way. Magic, the Lakers and their Armani-clad coach, Pat Riley (an exquisite Adrian Brody) — having just won Game 1 — race off the basketball court, through...
