Lies of P, the Soulslike title developed by Neowiz Games and Round8 Studio, was released last year and has been a shocking success in the genre. The game received mostly positive reviews from fans and critics and has been praised for its game design, combat, world-building, and much more.

Bloodborne is no doubt a game that every soulslike fan should play at least once in their lifetime. It’s so good that many people have been asking for a more refined version of this game and its sequel for nine years now. But everyone also knows that Bloodborne is not a game for a person who does not like a challenge. It is often considered to be one of the hardest games in FromSoftware’s soulslike series.
While fans kept on asking FromSoftware to start working on a sequel, developers by the names of Round 8 Studio and Neowiz decided to give them something else. A very beautiful-looking soulslike game called Lies of P. This game is Bloodborne to the tee. It has a Victorian setting, and features a dark, horror-like environment. But the developers made sure it’s different in one crucial way: it’s not as hard as Bloodborne.

The Elden Ring was released in 2022 and was a massive success. It was special because FromSoftware took a very exciting first step towards making open-world games. And this game blew up; fans loved it, and so did critics, and rightfully so, all thanks to FromSoftware’s dedication to building an unmatched open-world experience. Then came the announcement for Lies of P. This was another soullike game that was very interesting to look at and reminded fans of an age-old game.
Developers Neowiz Games and Round8 Studio were very proud of their new game from day 1. While it was very obviously inspired by FromSoftware’s Bloodborne, it offered its own twist on the genre. But were the developers worried about facing Elden Ring in the field?

Developers Neowiz Games and Round8 Studio’s Lies of P has been compared to Bloodborne ever since the game was revealed. Like so many one-to-one comparisons in modern media, that comparison is ultimately something of an exaggeration. And yet, given that we’re talking about a game that offers a twisted take on the Pinnochio tale, it feels important to say that there are also quite a few truths to be found in those exaggerations.
It’s probably not a coincidence that Lies of P’s most upfront qualities are also its most Bloodborne-like features. It is a Soulslike game with most of the core design elements we associate with that genre (including some that borrow Bloodborne‘s twists on those ideas). Numerous aspects of its Ui and animations are…umm…inspired by Bloodborne, to say the least. Most importantly, Lies of P utilizes a particular kind of gothic...
