This article contains spoilers for the Curb Your Enthusiasm series finale.
As many fans predicted, the Curb Your Enthusiasm series finale concluded just like the much-maligned Seinfeld finale, with Larry David sent to jail for (petty) crimes against humanity. Granted, it wasn’t exactly like David-penned Seinfeld finale as, on Curb, Jerry Seinfeld’s chance encounter with a Joe Pesci lookalike leads to a jury nullification and mistrial, setting our cranky hero free once again.
Before that last minute Deus Ex Jerry, however, Curb Your Enthusiasm gets to indulge in the best part of the Seinfeld ending of yore by having many, many guest stars and other faces from the show’s past make appearances. From the prosecutor to the judge to all the witnesses that attest to Larry’s poor character, the Curb finale has many guest star roles to fill. Here’s how it fills them.

Multiple run-ins with the law. Countless enemies. A healthy dose of Seinfeld finale references throughout the season. Let’s just say “No Lessons Learned” is the perfect title for Curb Your Enthusiasm’s swan song.
In the very last episode, our favorite curmudgeon headed back to Atlanta to stand trial for violating Georgia’s Election Integrity Act, but Larry couldn’t quite weasel his way out of this one without some dire consequences. Luckily for him, Jerry Seinfeld stopped by to support his friend and wound up saving Larry’s hide in a major way. Let’s take it from the top.

The more crime documentaries I watch, the more I realize how tough and terrifying a job it is to become a detective, especially for homicide cases. It takes a lot of courage and an open mind at the same time to confront a killer and make them talk about what they did and why they did it. Netflix has always done a great job when it comes to true crime docuseries, and another intriguing series was recently added to their list. Homicide: New York is a five-part docuseries that showcases five bone-chilling murder cases that took place in NYC. Both the detective squads from Manhattan South and North shared their experiences dealing with these crimes and how they had been able to find the murderers and bring them to justice. Here’s our recap of the first episode of this series, Carnegie Deli Massacre, that talks about how these diligent...

There’s ambition, then there’s execution. Ava DuVernay’s 2023 film, Origin, grapples with a subject that has been relevant since forever: casteism. And what DuVernay has attempted to do here is something that you wouldn’t see every day: capture a global issue while telling the deeply personal story of an individual. The film follows the journey of Isabell Wilkerson, a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist who wrote her award-winning book Caste: The Origin of Our Discontents. But it is not just some book. It also tells the story of the writer herself, who suffers as many as three tragedies, which, in a way, lays the foundation of her book as a kind of coping mechanism. Sadly, it doesn’t quite translate on the 70 mm, as Origin fails to evoke the kind of emotion it was looking for. It does have some strong moments, but most of it feels rather gimmicky...

Curb Your Enthusiasm‘s Jeff Schaffer knows that Richard Lewis will be remembered for being funny. But he wants fans of the comedian and actor, who died last month at age 76, to also know one thing.
“The thing about Richard is that everyone knows how funny he was,” the executive producer told The Hollywood Reporter. “But I want people to know also that he was the sweetest, kindest man. Everyone loved him. He loved being on the show. He will be missed.”
Schaffer and Curb‘s creator-star Larry David filmed with Lewis three weeks before he passed away. One result from the dual 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes was that the 12th and final season of the HBO improv comedy still had a few scenes to shoot when production resumed. Schaffer wouldn’t dare spoil what they were shooting, but Lewis was among those called back to film pickups.

This Meghan Markle moment is called the ‘cutest, most adorable thing ever’ by Uvalde victim’s family
Meghan Markle and her husband, Prince Harry, spent the weekend in Texas, first for her SXSW conference role and then for a meeting with family members of Irma Garcia, a Uvalde shooting victim.
Irma Garcia was killed in the mass shooting in Uvalde in 2022. This unfortunate tragedy took the lives of 19 children and two teachers, including Irma.
Before meeting with the victim’s family, Meghan fulfilled her role as a keynote speaker at the SXSW Breaking Barriers, Shaping Narratives: How Women Lead On and Off the Screen talk.
Meghan Markle spoke eloquently about the abuse and bullying that she suffered while she was expecting both of her children, Archie and Lilibet, at the conference in Austin, Texas.
Then, according to messages shared by Irma Garcia’s nephew, John, on X (formerly Twitter), Meghan and Harry stopped off to see Irma’s family.

Curb Your Enthusiasm paid homage to cast member Richard Lewis just days after the comedian’s death, as the fifth episode of the twelfth and final season of the HBO series aired. Before the HBO tune-in even popped up, a title card honoring Lewis appeared, reading, “In Memory of Richard Lewis, 1947 – 2024.” It also included an image of Lewis who also happened to appear in the episode. Titled, “Fish Stuck,” the installment featured Lewis attending AA meetings that Larry’s girlfriend Irma (Tracey Ullman) happened to be attending. (Credit: HBO) Featured in two scenes, Lewis beamed over laughs he’d gotten from attendees at one of the meetings, and in another moment, he relayed some information Irma shared during one of the meetings to Larry over lunch, thinking he’d be written into his friend’s will. As the episode played out, Lewis’ revelation about Irma leaving her former husband because...

On the latest Curb Your Enthusiasm episode, Larry David (the character) is accused of being the anonymous writer of a letter griping about his Los Angeles country club. The letter, which is posted to the locker room bulletin board, is signed “Disgruntled” and grabs the attention of the club’s owner, Mr. Takahashi (Dana Lee), who happens to have a long-standing feud with Larry.
It makes sense that Larry would be assumed to be the so-called Disgruntled member. In this episode — the fourth in the final season, titled “Disgruntled” — Larry, who is enjoying newfound fame as a political national hero after his premiere episode visit to Georgia, gets under the skin of several members of the club’s staff when he complains about breakfast not being served after 11 a.m., brings his own bread and his own eggs to the kitchen, and then accuses the chef of not using his home-brought eggs.

While Larry David hopefully isn’t going anywhere, the story of “Larry David” will soon be coming to an end. HBO has confirmed that Curb Your Enthusiasm season 12 will be the final outing for the beloved comedy series about the largely improvised and (hopefully) fictionalized misadventures of star and creator Larry David.
How will Larry’s story end? Presumably not with him and his friends being sentenced to prison like in the much-maligned Seinfeld finale that David wrote, even if that would be a masterstroke of trolling. If the first official trailer for Curb Your Enthusiasm season 12 is any indication, Larry is going to go out the way he came in: complaining.
This trailer is notable for many reasons but the most compelling one in our estimation arrives early on. Take a look at the scene that begins around the 17-second mark. Is that none other than City Councilwoman Irma...

The second part of this year’s Venice Film Festival shines with at least two firsts: Ava DuVernay is the first African-American female director competing for the Golden Lion, here with a film about Isabel Wilkerson, the first woman of African-American heritage to win the Pulitzer Prize in Journalism. Origin is inspired by Wilkerson’s seminal 2020 book Caste: The Origin of Our Discontents, but is a stand-alone cinematic retelling of a life, work, and the process of uncovering, from within, the perilous paradigms that shape our social structures. Even if such a premise reads a bit dry, DuVernay’s dedication to rawness and realism puts literary and conceptual devices to good use to make an affecting, vital film for our times.
Portraying Isabel is Aunjanue Ellis Taylor, who made a promising collaboration with DuVernay on her 2019 show When They See Us. For Origin, the actress channels all her untiring devotion...

Picnic At Hanging Rock
Here at Eye For Film we deal mostly in what’s new – on the festival circuit, at the box office or on streaming networks – so it’s not often that the opportunity arises to discuss a classic. Very few films in the history of cinema have had the impact of Peter Weir’s 1975 mystery Picnic At Hanging Rock. The story of a disappearance and the effect it has on those who remain, it’s based, of course, on the book by Joan Lindsay, whose inspirations have themselves always been obscure, but may be rooted in real disappearances which took place at the rock around 1900. In the film, Karen Robson played Irma, the only one of the party of four who venture up the rock to be found. In the course of our conversation she raised another mystery – the unknown fate of one of its stars – and shared.

Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander, real-life husband and wife, are reuniting onscreen for the second time. The Oscar-winner (Vikander for “The Danish Girl”) and the Oscar-nominee (Fassbender for “12 Years A Slave”) will star in “Hope,” a mostly Korean-language feature from Na Hong-Jin.
The picture, about a mysterious delivery made on the outskirts of a remote harbor town, is the filmmaker’s first directorial effort since “The Wailing” earned rave reviews and $49 million worldwide in 2016 from a $6 million budget, with $48 million of that coming from South Korea.
“Oftentimes,” noted Hong-Jin, “a person’s goodwill can lead to unintended catastrophe simply because of differences in perspective. My hope for this film is to cinematically capture that phenomenon in a way that has yet to be seen.”
