Stephen Emery, a producer and film executive who worked for Gale Anne Hurd and Bill Gerber and on films featuring the likes of Clint Eastwood, Anna Kendrick, Liam Hemsworth, Aaron Eckhart and Liam Neeson, has died. He was 46.
Emery died Saturday in a Los Angeles gym after a workout, Big Swell Entertainment CEO Andy Horwitz told The Hollywood Reporter. He recently joined the production company that had launched in October.
“Everyone that had the pleasure to know Stephen Emery is heartbroken over the sudden loss of one of our own,” Horwitz said in a statement. “Stephen was much more than an invaluable producer, he was also an irreplaceable friend. His passion for film was outweighed only by his passion for life, and he lived every day like it was his last. We will miss his adventurous spirit, his loyal friendship and his genuine love for life. Rest in peace, brother.

CAA Agent Rob Herting Leaves To Set Up Audio Studio Qcode With Automatik & Management Firm Grandview
Exclusive: Former CAA agent Rob Herting has left the agency to form audio studio Qcode with production firm Automatik and its sister management business Grandview.
The new venture will work with creatives to generate podcasts and other audio content with an emphasis on scripted, narrative stories. The La-based company is in production on content which could launch in early 2019 and I hear material is already generating screen adaptation interest. David Henning, who was running Automatik’s unscripted division, will join the Qcode team.
Podcasts are a fast-growing market and a good fit for well-connected lit agents. Herting started his career at Endeavor and Verve before moving to CAA where he represented writers, directors and producers including Fast And The Furious 9 writer Dan Casey, Bad Boys 3 directors Adil El Arbi & Bilall Fallah, Wheelman director Jeremy Rush, Spiderman Homecoming writer Chris Ford and Kidding creator Dave Holstein. His clients have remained at CAA.

Chicago – Actor Frank Grillo is on the rise, as evidenced from his high profile supporting role in Marvel Studios “Captain America: Civil War” and portraying Sgt. Barnes in “The Purge” series of horror films. He recently has partnered in a production company (WarParty Films) and is the title character in their debut movie “Wheelman,” which is distributed and available now on Netflix, as part of their film group.
The “Wheelman” is also the debut film for writer/director Jeremy Rush, and currently has an 88% favorability rating on Rotten Tomatoes. In this tense thriller, Grillo portrays a getaway driver who is double crossed, and suddenly has to protect his family from retribution. The film’s scenes takes place mostly in the vehicles that the Wheelman drives – similar to the movie “Locke” from 2013 – and features Grillo at his action star best.

[Editors Note: This article is presented in partnership with Netflix’s original film “Wheelman”– now streaming exclusively on Netflix.]
Frank Grillo is the kind of guy you would trust with your life — or at least he seems like it.
The 52-year-old New York City native has cultivated a career out of playing someone you’d want in your corner — a small-town police chief, a commanding officer in the Army, and even a Marvel super villain — on screens both big and small. (For what it’s worth, his character in “Purge 3: Election Year” also passionately dedicated his life to protecting the first female president. Do with that what you will.)
But the secret to Grillo’s success goes beyond mastering the tough-guy-with-a-heart-of-gold act. There’s an authentic vulnerability to the characters he brings to life on screen, most recently Mma fighter-turned-trainer Alvey Kulina in the critically acclaimed DirecTV drama “Kingdom,” which concluded its four-season run earlier this year.

Welcome to Frank Grillo day here at Qe. If all goes well, we'll have a trifecta with a trailer for another of the 10 movies he has in production or ready for release. He's a busy guy!
In all seriousness, the buzz around Wheelman, the feature film debut of writer/director Jeremy Rush, has been described to me by more than one person who has seen it as an extension of the driving sequences in Drive; basically, non-stop driving action.
Grillo stars as a nameless getaway driver who gets a tip that he's been double crossed and he spends the remainder of the movie trying to figure out who sold him upriver without a paddle.

Here’s the latest trailer for writer/director Jeremy Rush’s forthcoming action thriller Wheelman – which is set to debut on Netflix – and stars Frank Grillo (as the titular character), Garrett Dillahunt and Caitlin Carmichael.
The wheelman is Grillo – a getaway driver thrust into a high stakes race-to-survive after a bank robbery goes terribly wrong. With a car full of money and his family on the line, the clock is ticking to figure out who double-crossed him, and the only person he can trust… his fourteen-year-old daughter. All reasons to think fast, and drive faster.
Wheelman premieres on Netflix on October 20th.

"You don't listen to me... you're gunna get hurt." Netflix has revealed a new full-length trailer for an action film titled Wheelman, about a "wheelman" getaway driver. We featured a teaser trailer for this last month, and here's the full trailer to follow that. Wheelman is told entirely from the perspective of the driver, with most shots inside the car, taking place over the course of one night and one bank robbery that goes terribly wrong. Frank Grillo plays the wheelman, co-starring Garret Dillahunt, Caitlin Carmichael, Wendy Moniz, and William Xifaras. This actually looks pretty damn good, and buzz from Fantastic Fest seems to indicate it might even exceed expectations. This really does look a lot like a grittier Baby Driver, though. Here's the official full-length trailer for Jeremy Rush's Wheelman, direct from Netflix's YouTube: You can still watch the first teaser trailer for Netflix's Wheelman here, to see a different take on this.

Netflix has got another great looking movie coming out called Wheelman, which stars Frank Grillo. Today we have an action-packed new trailer for you to watch, and I think you'll like what you see, especially if you're a fan of Grillo.
Frank Grillo (Kingdom, Captain America: Civil War) stars as the wheelman, a getaway driver thrust into a high stakes race-to-survive after a bank robbery goes terribly wrong. With a car full of money and his family on the line, the clock is ticking to figure out who double-crossed him and the only person he can trust… his thirteen-year-old daughter. All reasons to think fast and drive faster.
It's a simple story premise, but it looks like it's an awesomely executed film that's going to be a thrilling and intense. Wheelman was written and directed by Jeremy Rush. and Joe Carnahan (The Grey, The A-Team) is producing.

A close-quarters crime film whose protagonist stays behind the wheel but is rarely in the driver's seat, Wheelman gives fan-favorite tough guy Frank Grillo a chance to open up in a starring vehicle. The directing debut of Jeremy Rush, this solid genre pic plays like a pulpy cousin to Steven Knight's 2013 Locke, less formally rigorous but more inviting. It will be a welcome diversion for those who stumble across it on Netflix, where it debuts next month, and should help raise its lead's profile in the genre world.

Jeremy Rush’s Wheelman is a “Dad Movie” in the best way; the kind of no bullshit engine-rever that you flip on every Father’s Day during [insert random cable station]’s “All Poppas, All Action” marathon (sounds like a real thing). That might not read like a glowing endorsement, but truly – especially for a filmmaker’s debut – this car-centric thriller speeds into double-crossing criminal territory with hardened poise. Drawing cues from Courtney Solomon’s Getaway, it’s all about the thrill of the chase, burning of rubber and chaos of the moment – ambitiously told from a driver’s perspective.

We’ve seen lots of crime stories about the guy who’s in over his head, the guy who wants to do right but has to pull that one last job or pay off a debt to the mob. In Wheelman, Frank Grillo’s getaway driver finds himself in a familiar predicament when he’s set up and forced to bolt in the middle of a bank robbery, making himself a target for the mob, his abandoned passengers, and a mysterious phone caller who seems to be pulling all the strings.
What makes the film work so well is that writer/director Jeremy Rush, producer Joe Carnahan and their excellent cast are as aware of the old tropes as we are, and have stripped everything down to the leanest possible components.

Netflix has just released the first trailer for Jeremy Rush’s film “Wheelman.” The film stars Frank Grillo as a getaway driver who is, surprise suprise, double crossed and must drive to survive. While it doesn’t sound like the most original plot, Grillo is always a welcome presence and the film will be, at the very least, action packed. The official synopsis reads:

If writer-director-producer Joe Carnahan has a trademark, it’s grit. The filmmaker does ‘gritty’ on a level quite unlike anybody else currently in the business. One of his earliest efforts, from 1998, is literally called Blood, Guts, Bullets And Octane – which gives a pretty good indication of the style for which this artist shoots. In that respect, his latest comments on two current projects are both unsurprising and reassuring – as he spoke to Collider about Death Wish, and Wheelman.
The subject of Death Wish might have been a sore one, but Carnahan clearly took a diplomatic approach when addressing the project. It’s a script that he wrote as a re-working of the classic Charles Bronson film, but which saw him ultimately part ways with MGM over the direction in which the studio wanted to take the film. Joe Carnahan is not giving up on his version of the story, though,...
