When Lee Sung Jin’s limited series Beef wrapped production back in 2022, the cast and crew were so happy with the profound camaraderie they’d developed that they’ve attempted to meet for dinner at least once a week ever since — some irony for a story originally borne out of anger and resentment.
Some time ago, pre-Beef, Lee found himself angrily tailing a driver in a road rage incident for nearly an hour. When he happened to tell Ravi Nandan, A24’s head of television, about this moment of madness, Nandan suggested Lee might expand on it. Was there more story to tell?
The complex and personal stories behind two strangers clashing with such vitriol eventually evolved into Lee’s limited series. At turns hilarious and disturbing, it follows the lives of Amy (Ali Wong) and Danny (Steven Yeun) as they enter into an intense feud that is, in truth,...

Steven Yeun has done quite well for himself since parting ways with the land of the Walkers. From earning an Oscar nod in 2021 to becoming the first Asian actor to win a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a limited series, the actor has been successful in building an impeccable resume.
But before earning acclaim for his versatility, the actor initially rose to prominence following his portrayal of fan-favorite Glenn in AMC’s The Walking Dead Series. Although in hindsight, leaving the show back in 2016 turned out to be a wise choice for Yeun, the decision wasn’t easy for the actor.

After months of waiting, fans finally got to witness the continuation of the season 6 finale’s cliffhanger in The Day Will Come When You Won’t Be, which saw Glenn taking a baseball bat to the head.

Someone loves “Love Me.” The indie romance starring Kristen Stewart and Steven Yeun that made its premiere in competition at this year’s Sundance Film Festival will be released theatrically in the U.S. by Bleecker Street and ShivHans Pictures. The film will open in theaters in 2025.
“Love Me” from directors Sam and Andy Zuchero is the story of a buoy and a satellite who meet online long after humanity’s extinction. Stewart and Yeun play human manifestations of the two animatronic lovers who have evolved after billions of years of love and romance. The film explores what it means to be alive and be in love all as they learn about what life was like on Earth before humanity’s extinction.
Bleecker is co-distributing “Love Me” alongside ShivHans, which also produced the film. Both entities have financial skin in the game in terms of handling its theatrical release strategy.

It’s been a ride for “Beef” creator, writer and director Lee Sung Jin and the cast — the series dominated the Emmy Awards with five wins, and nabbed two SAG Awards for stars Ali Wong and Steven Yeun.
While a second season has yet to be announced, Lee is making good use of his Notes app, inspired by his surroundings.
Lee spoke with Variety about his year and receiving Gold House’s Icon Award.
It’s been a year since “Beef” dropped on Netflix and became this phenomenon, what have the past 12 months been like for you?
The last 12 months have been quite a roller coaster. A lot of high highs — getting to go through the release and awards season with Steve and Ali and all our collaborators, it’s felt really special. They’re some of my best friends now, and to be able to experience that together was really wonderful.

Marvel had a rough year in 2023. Many of its properties underperformed, and they lost their big villain due to Jonathan Majors being fired. Looking forward to their upcoming slate, comic fans have been excited about some of the studio’s projects over the next few years. Will these films help Marvel regain control? The upcoming Thunderbolts film has been one that fanboys have been hoping to see since the MCU started. With some recent news about the property coming up, it seems like the right time to break down what we know about the production.
Who Are The Thunderbolts?
The team first appeared in Marvel Comics in 1997 in an issue of The Incredible Hulk. They seemed to be a new group of superheroes that had arrived on the scene and gained acclaim very quickly. The reader was informed that the group was actually a group of supervillains led by Baron Zemo.

Somewhere, as "Euphoria" struggles to reassemble its cast of former no-names-turned-movie-stars for season 3, the team behind "Bones" is wistfully inquiring, "First time?" Hart Hanson's nearly-unstoppable procedural dramedy not only transformed Emily Deschanel and David Boreanaz into household names over its 12 seasons, but it also took many of its supporting players to the next level. The only downside was, this meant it was sometimes necessary for the show's creatives to kill off a fan-favorite member of the Jeffersonian's staff once the actors behind them had filled up their workload with outside projects.
Most infamously, "Bones" took Booth's honorary little brother Lance Sweets out back behind the shed after John Francis Daley's directing career made it impossible for him to continue playing the cherished FBI psychologist on a regular basis. It wasn't fun for anyone (least of all Daley), although he was far from the only cast member whose character got Old Yeller-ed.

Hugo Weaving first became the popular villain of modern cinema through his role as Agent Smith in The Matrix films. Initially, Jean Reno was offered the villain role, which he declined due to the film’s location in Australia. Before filming, Weaving found a polyp in his leg which required a surgical removal at the time.

Florence Pugh is back on a Marvel set. The actress shared a behind-the-scenes tour of the Atlanta set where she is currently filming the upcoming Thunderbolts on Wednesday.
“Hey guys, how are you doing? I know I’ve dropped off for a little bit, but that’s partially because I was whisked off to Atlanta to shoot a movie that I’m not really supposed to talk about,” Pugh said in a video posted to Instagram. “But I can show you things, sneakily, as long as you don’t tell anyone…I can show you a sneak peek of the set.”
Pugh plays assassin Yelena Belova in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Her character first appeared in 2021’s Black Widow and later in the Disney+ series Hawkeye.
In her video, Pugh appears in costume, lifting the camera to show off Yelena’s suit and then moving to reveal several of the structures under construction for Thunderbolts.

The second part of Invincible Season 2 has started with a bang, and Steven Yeun, who voices the titular protagonist of the Prime Video series, is willing to see through the character’s development and the show’s future by being in it for the long haul.

The best comic book superheroes tend to stick around awhile. DC’s Batman has been fighting crime in Gotham City since 1939. Marvel’s Spider-Man has been slinging webs since 1962. Even the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, originally launched as a satire of the genre in 1984, are now an established squad and have been for some time.
Along with that longevity, however, often comes an uncertain continuity. There are dozens of versions of Batman, Spider-Man, and the Tmnt that exist across countless storylines in comics, television, film, and beyond. Steven Yeun has scored a lot of commendation-worthy roles, but none comes close to his exceptional voiceover of Mark Grayson in the animated Invincible web series. Beef 2 Reported Cast Update & More(Photo Credit –IMDb)
The Netflix series Beef, starring Steven Yeun and Ali Wong, impressed critics and viewers with its dark comedy, fantastic storyline, and outstanding performances. The first season came out in April last year, and it has grabbed some of the major awards at the Emmys this year. Luckily for the fans, the fun won’t end with season 1. Apparently, there will be Beef 2, and big names like Anne Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal are being eyed for the main cast.
What is Beef about?
It is about a failing contractor and an unfulfilled entrepreneur, sparking a feud after a road rage incident between them. However, there is also an underlying depression. They require psychological solace but refuse to get conventional help. The series has an 8/10 rating on IMDb. Many critics call it one of the best series of the year.

Netflix hasn’t officially pulled the trigger on Beef season 2, but when it does, it could come with a star-studded cast. According to Deadline, the new season will revolve around two feuding couples. Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway are being eyed to play one of the couples, and Charles Melton (May December) and Cailee Spaeny (Priscilla) are being eyed for the other.
As it’s still early on in the process, Deadline admits that there are no deals in place yet but added that the scripts for Beef season 2 were recently turned in. Should everything move ahead, production on the new season could get underway by later summer or fall. Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway have appeared together several times before, most notably in Brokeback Mountain and Love & Other Drugs, so it would be fun to see them share the screen again.

Ali Wong won the award for best performance in a new scripted series at the 2024 Film Independent Spirit Awards for her role in Netflix’s Beef, which also won the prize for best new scripted series.
While accepting her first-ever Spirit Award, Wong thanked her co-star Steven Yeun, who was also nominated in the gender-neutral category, as well as the series’ creator Lee Sung Jin and executive producer Jake Schreier. “I wouldn’t be here without you. Word on the street is that you'll want to steer clear when Steven Yeun and Ali Wong are behind the wheel in Beef.
From A24 Studios, the upcoming dark comedy series starring Yeun and Wong follows two strangers whose lives converge during a road rage incident. Danny Cho (Yeun) is a failing contractor with a chip on his shoulder, while Amy Lau (Wong) is a self-made entrepreneur with a picturesque life. Throughout the 10-episode series, their feud consumes them as their lives and relationships become intertwined in more ways than one.
As these first look photos show, both characters come from polar-opposite worlds. Amy is surrounded by her beige walls, eclectic vases and a hot husband. Danny, on the other hand, comes from humble beginnings and can’t seem to catch a break.

Steven Yeun has been the voice of Mark Grayson/ Invincible in Amazon’s hit series Invincible. The first season was a big hit for the streamer and Yeun has done an incredible job in letting audiences emotionally connect with Mark and his complex relationship with his father Omni-Man. Once again, Marvel's long-awaited "Thunderbolts" movie has been given a new release date. The good news for those looking forward to this one is that, for once, Disney has moved the film up by a couple of months rather than delay it again. Whether or not this date is the one that sticks remains to be seen, but mark your calendars for May 2, 2025, and plan accordingly.
Marvel Studios did a little bit of shuffling around with its release calendar, with "The Fantastic Four" taking over the July 25, 2025, release date that was previously held by "Thunderbolts." In announcing the new dates, Marvel also finally confirmed the cast for "Fantastic Four," with Pedro Pascal playing Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby playing Sue Storm, Ebon Moss Bachrach playing Ben Grimm, and Joseph Quinn playing Johnny Storm. Most of those names have been circling the rumor mill for some time, but have finally been made official.

Kristen Stewart Is Strong as fuck, and I do not mean this metaphorically. I am not, for instance, talking about any experience from her past that she has quote-unquote risen above, like that time she was in those vampire-werewolf movies and dubbed the World’s Most Hated Actress because she did not appear sufficiently stoked to sit in a room full of journalists and discuss making out with her co-stars. Or the time she was photographed kissing her much older (and married) Snow White and the Huntsman director, and, due to the horror this engendered,...

Marvel’s Thunderbolts film loses another key cast member, with Ayo Ederberi set to be replaced by Blockers‘ Geraldine Viswanathan.
Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts project really does seem to be struggling to catch a break at the moment.
Production on the film was suspended last year due to the strikes, and as things look to get back up and running, the project keeps losing key creatives. The film’s cinematographer Steve Yedlin had to exit the project because of scheduling conflicts following the delay caused by those aforementioned strikes.
Beef's Steven Yeun also left the film before production restarted, citing scheduling conflicts. Although it was never confirmed, Yeun was heavily rumoured to be playing the role of Sentry in the ensemble, which may well have placed him as a central role in the film. A part which could well require a lot of the film’s heavy lifting as far as drama and tension go.

Marvel Studios' "Thunderbolts" has suffered another setback. Actress Ayo Edebiri has exited the project, citing scheduling conflicts. The exit comes almost exactly a year after Edebiri's casting was announced. However, "Thunderbolts" has already found its replacement: Geraldine Viswanathan.
Reporting suggests that Edebiri's scheduling conflicts stem from production delays on "Thunderbolts." Filming was previously pushed back to accommodate the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike and Edebiri's commitments evidently no longer align with the revised "Thunderbolts" schedule. Steven Yeun, who was set to appear in "Thunderbolts" as Robert Reynolds/The Sentry, has exited the project for similar reasons (the part has since been recast with Lewis Pullman).
"Thunderbolts" adapts the Marvel comic of the same name, featuring semi-reformed supervillains working together. Think of it as the equivalent of DC's Suicide Squad, especially since the MCU will be including an Amanda Waller analogue in Countess Valentina Allegra De Fontaine (Julia Louis Dreyfus). The Marvel Cinematic Universe has seemingly found its new Sentry. Though it hasn't been officially confirmed by the folks at Marvel Studios, it has been reported widely that the character will appear in the upcoming "Thunderbolts" movie that is set to conclude Phase 5 of the MCU. Recently, Steven Yeun announced his departure from the film, which left the production with a pretty big problem to solve.
According to Deadline, Lewis Pullman is the man who has been tasked with solving that problem. The 30-year-old actor, best known for his work in movies like "Top Gun: Maverick" and "The Strangers: Prey at Night," is now poised to join his biggest franchise yet. Jake Schreier is directing "Thunderbolts," which is expected to begin filming in the coming months. While plot details have yet to be revealed, the Thunderbolts are not unlike DC's Suicide Squad, in that it's historically a team of villains...

As Sundance deals slowly start to pile up, one U.S. Dramatic Competition title still searching for distribution is Sam and Andy Zuchero’s “Love Me.”
Starring Kristen Stewart and Steven Yeun in both voice and live-action form, the sci-fi romance centers on a satellite and an ocean-bound buoy who become increasingly sentient and fall in love over the course of billions of years. Sam and Andy, for their feature debut, constructed an actual satellite and buoy to scale before the film morphs into “The Sims”-style animation using motion capture with the actors who, finally, performed as their real selves, unadorned by technology, on a soundstage. This earnest and innovative love story — which in part tells a hopeful story of artificial intelligence at a cultural moment where it feels very much like an existential threat — should find an appreciative audience, especially given the compelling chemistry of the leads. It was reported earlier that Steven Yeun was set to make his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the Thunderbolts film. Unfortunately, scheduling issues that cropped up due to last year’s dual strikes in Hollywood would now prevent Yeun from participating in filming. The actor felt remorse for the dilemma and wanted to make it clear that he hopes to join the MCU in the future, “I wanna do a Marvel movie. I have some ideas.” Yeun would also apologize to the fans for holding up the production, “It took a lot of drafts on email to make sure that I conveyed the sincerity of how sorry I was to have to back out.” Deadline is now reporting that Top Gun: Maverick‘s Lewis Pullman is now in talks with Marvel Studios to be Yeun’s replacement. Lewis Pullman is the top choice to replace Steven Yeun in Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts, sources confirmed to Deadline. If a deal closes, he would star opposite Florence Pugh, David Harbour, Sebastian Stan and Wyatt Russell, previously announced as the main ensemble of the pic during D23 in 2022.
Marvel Studios had no comment.
Deadline broke that Yeun had been a part of the Thunderbolts cast but had to back out after production was pushed because of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, creating a scheduling issue for the recent Beef Emmy winner.

Lewis Pullman may be getting a jolt, courtesy of Marvel Studios. The Top Gun: Maverick actor is Marvel’s top choice to star in Thunderbolts, and has an offer for the role vacated by Steven Yeun earlier this month.
Marvel and reps for Pullman did not respond to requests for comment.

A cosmic love story that takes place over 13.7 billion years about a floating buoy and a satellite circling the earth, Love Me might best be described as a domestic drama in lockdown. The light, thoughtful, and occasionally repetitive debut feature from Sam and Andy Zuchero takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where humans have gone extinct. All that remains––that we know of––are two machines bobbing and floating with A.I. operating systems and a virtual database of Internet archives spanning all of human history. Without the opportunity for social interaction and physical contact, the pair tries the best it can to establish some sort of connection––to determine what that might even look and sound like.
The premise recalls a common thought experiment: if aliens could only understand humanity through social media, how would they think about us? Would they believe that the facile, oft-scripted content plaguing Instagram...

“Based on the groundbreaking comic book by Robert Kirkman, Cory Walker, and Ryan Ottley, the story revolves around 18-year-old Mark Grayson, who’s just like every other guy his age—except his father is (or was) the most powerful superhero on the planet,” reads the show’s logline. “Still reeling from Nolan’s betrayal in Season 1, Mark struggles to rebuild his life as he faces a host of new threats, all while battling his greatest fear – that he might become his father without even knowing it.”

It’s hard to say what’s more impressive: That a married filmmaking duo made a romantic drama that covers 13.7 billion years and climaxes with a buoy fucking a satellite, or that Sam and Andy Zuchero’s debut feature — a tedious movie that gradually squanders all of the goodwill earned by the creative ambition behind it — somehow manages to feel trite and predictable in spite of that premise.
As much as I respect the chutzpah required to jump directly from short films to what might be the longest-spanning love story ever told, time ironically proves to be the undoing of a movie about two star-crossed pieces of metal who can’t even feel it pass. Their struggle to keep things interesting for several million millennia reflects the Zucheros’ struggle to keep things interesting for 92 minutes, as “Love Me” — not unlike the zombie relationship it follows to infinity and beyond — quickly...

Husband-and-wife filmmaking team Sam and Andy Zuchero have loftily described their debut feature, Love Me, as “Kubrick meets YouTube.” But what comes to mind while experiencing the increasingly stultifying sci-fi odyssey is closer to a mashup, filtered through the prism of social media, of Spike Jonze’s Her and Charlie Kaufman’s Anomalisa, without the imagination or depth of reflection that fuels either of those films. Taking two of the most magnetic actors on the planet, Kristen Stewart and Steven Yeun, and transforming them into emotionally stunted virtual avatars for more than half the running time is the least of the miscalculations.
Mixing live action, animation, animatronics and game engine architecture, the movie starts amusingly enough, with a sped up space view of Earth covering more than five million years as it evolves and eventually reaches cataclysm point with a sputter of explosions. That’s curtains for humanity.

On the most literal level, deceptively busy Sundance novelty “Love Me” is about the relationship between a buoy adrift at sea and a satellite circling the earth. Sam and Andy Zuchero’s eccentric cosmic rom-com takes place in a time after humans have gone extinct, when the surviving machines’ only references are a massive hard drive’s worth of data combed from search engines and social media sites. Audiences can root for the two devices, or they may plunge as deep as they want into this most unconventional of love stories, projecting themselves onto AI characters embodied (in various forms) by Kristen Stewart and Steven Yeun.
Beautiful and complicated, those two stars make a most enticing screen couple, even if they’re just playing idealized avatars for a pair of robots. The Zucheros’ creation is audacious and original, but also suffers from some of the same Adhd issues that afflicted...
