Fans got a look at the late Lance Reddick in one of his final movie performances thanks to footage of the John Wick spinoff Ballerina shown to attendees at CinemaCon.
Reddick, known for his roles in the John Wick movie franchise and Horizon video games series, sadly passed away in early 2023.
Due to the actor’s talent and busy schedule, however, he still has performances left for the world to see. One of those unfolded recently on Disney+, where he played Zeus on Percy Jackson and the Olympians.

The release of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire in worldwide theaters may have reminded fans of the late Lance Reddick. Although the actor did not have a huge part in the franchise, director Adam Wingard hoped to give him a more significant role and even work with him in future installments.

"Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" is now in theaters, and while the movie offers silly but fun Saturday morning cartoon vibes (according to Witney Seibold's review for /Film), one former MonsterVerse cast member's absence will be felt. Talented actor Lance Reddick passed away unexpectedly in 2023, and though he didn't seem to have a planned return to the franchise in the works at the time of his death, he appeared in 2021's "Godzilla vs. Kong."
The MonsterVerse may not have had big plans for the future of Guillerman, the Monarch Director whom Reddick played in Legendary's first Godzilla-Kong showdown, but director Adam Wingard did initially intend for Reddick to have a larger part of that film. "Originally, Lance's part was a little bit bigger as he plays the Monarch director, he's running the organization," Wingard told GamesRadar+ around the time that "Godzilla vs. Kong" was released in theaters (per Syfy). Adam Wingard wants you to be his guest again — no, really this time. A sequel for his 2014 thriller has been talked about for quite a while now and has at various points seemed as close as ever to going before cameras. And while we’re far from an official greenlight, Wingard is still toiling away with The Guest 2.
Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Wingard said that he and writer Simon Barrett have been tinkering with an idea that could make The Guest 2 work. Even still, he feels there is a missing component: the late Lance Reddick, who passed away just over one year ago and who also appeared in Wingard’s Godzilla vs. Kong. “It’s unfortunate that Lance Reddick died last year. It was very sad, and I loved Lance. So I wish that we could have made [The Guest 2] happen in his lifetime, because we would’ve definitely carried him over into the film.

You asked, and Adam Wingard listened.
Coming off of 2021’s Godzilla vs. Kong, the filmmaker was keenly aware that critics and audiences wanted even more focus on the MonsterVerse titans, so his sequel, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, features multiple long stretches of runtime that’s exclusively titans, namely Kong and his journey. The giant ape is the main character of Warners’ fifth MonsterVerse film, and Wingard was able to pull off this more titan-heavy story by keeping his cast of human characters to a helpful minimum.
“In the development phase, my motto was ‘simplicity is key.’ And so I knew that if we created a smaller cast, we could create a more intimate story,” Wingard tells The Hollywood Reporter. “We can still spend time with [the human characters], and at the same time, we can spend more time with the monsters and not shortchange one or the other.”

Shirley is a biographical movie about the life of Shirley Chisholm movie written and directed by John Ridley starring Regina King.
A schoolteacher, elected to Congress. It was the early 70s, and Shirley Chisholm was also the first African American woman to run for the Presidency of the United States. A woman who ran without any backing, representing the members of the working class, the minorities.
A movie filled with hope, faith, and feminism.
Indeed, more than a racial candidacy, Shirley Chisholm based her campaign on gender politics and minorities, paving the way for a hopeful future.
A film about faith, but above all about clear-cut American politics.
About the movie
Faith, hope, and a lot of political film of good ideas, faith, hope, and political consciousness. A movie with its good ideas well defined (we don’t deny them at any moment) and does everything possible to assert its thesis.

At a glance, Shirley Chisholm’s 1972 campaign for president was the definition of quixotic. She was 47 years old; at the time, she had served only one term (starting in 1968) as the first Black woman to be elected to Congress. (Her district centered on the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn.) To say that Chisholm wasn’t a seasoned Washington, D.C., player would be putting it mildly. And she looked like an outsider. She wore puffy wigs, schoolmarm glasses, and tasteful print dresses. There was a slightly prim stoicism about her, though she lit up whenever she flashed her smile with the gap tooth on the right side. She looked like who she was — a day-care supervisor from Bed-Stuy, and a devout Christian.
But her persona didn’t end there. This church lady was a fighter, of Guyanese and Bajan descent, and she spoke with a pristine propriety that carried a hint...

Since 1994, paying tribute to the artists and filmmakers who died in the past year has become an annual segment at the Oscars. Arguably the most emotional segment of the Night, the In Memoriam section of 2024 kicked off with the remembrance of Alexei Navalny. Other notable names that were honored in the Award ceremony included Matthew Perry, Richard Lewis, Glenda Jackson, Tina Turner, Robbie Robertson, and Ryuichi Sakamoto.
However, like each year, several deceased figures were left out of the montage, which involved many prominent figures, including John Wick Star Lance Reddick, which has caused fans to outburst.

The Percy Jackson and the Olympians team isn’t quite ready to look for a new Zeus.
In the Season 1 finale of the Disney+ series, the late Lance Reddick played the Greek god in an extensive scene with series lead Walker Scobell, as Percy faces Zeus atop Mount Olympus. It was one of his final on-screen roles.
Zeus has a presence throughout all five of Rick Riordan’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians novels.
“I don’t think anybody’s there yet,” executive producer Jon Steinberg told reporters of recasting the role ahead of Season 2, which has already been given the green light. “There’s also just a little bit of denial, I think. That’s something that we’re gonna have to deal with. But we’re incredibly grateful for this character that he helped build and the presence that he created. I do not envy whoever has to step into his shoes.

Keanu Reeves accepted the inaugural Lance Reddick Legacy Award at the 51st Saturn Awards and spoke to People magazine at the ceremony, where he revealed that he once wrote a letter to the late actor in which he credited Reddick with making John Wick so popular. The two actors starred together in all four “John Wick” movies before Reddick died in March 2023 at 60 years old. Reddick died just several days before “John Wick: Chapter 4” opened in theaters nationwide.
“He had such a passion and a fire for creativity, and for his craft, and for art,” Reeves said of the late actor. “I had the chance to work with him on four films over the course of eight years. Over that time, we got to know each other better. But also, he had such a grace and he was funny. I mean, humor-wise.”

In a couple of months, it will be a year since we lost the late, great Lance Reddick. His passing was a shock as it came so suddenly, and at a time where he had incredible works on the horizon. We haven’t even seen the last of his work as he’s due to make a cameo appearance as his John Wick character, Charon, in the spin-off Ballerina. He can recently be seen in the Disney+ show, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, where he fittingly portrays the Greek God, Zeus. Reddick would finish filming the first season just before his untimely passing.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians would finally premiere on Disney+, and the season finale featured an epic conflict with Zeus on the top of Mount Olympus. Deadline reports that the show would pay tribute to the late actor by closing out with a title card that read,...

[This story contains spoilers for the season finale of Percy Jackson and the Olympians on Disney+.]
Percy Jackson completed his quest.
The season finale of Percy Jackson and the Olympians finds the title character (Walker Scobell) confronting two powerful Greek gods, sharing emotional scenes with both of his parents — and discovering that there might be more challenges to come. In keeping with the structure of The Lightning Thief, the Rick Riordan novel that’s the source material for this season, the finale showcases several high-stakes scenes that all feel like climaxes to the story, only to build to another big moment.
First, Percy faces down Ares (Adam Copeland) in hopes of retrieving Hades’ helm and preventing an all-out war among the gods and its disastrous consequences for humanity. After successfully taking on the god of war — with a little help from the sea — he travels to Olympus to return the master bolt to Zeus (Lance Reddick, in one of his final acting roles before his death...

The season finale of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” brought the debut of the King of the Gods himself, stolen lightning bolt and all — Zeus, played by the late Lance Reddick. And, according to series star Walker Scobell, Reddick was a lot like the God of Thunder, in that “his presence demands respect.”
In the final episode of the season, now streaming on Disney+, Percy Jackson (Scobell) manages to make it up to Olympus to return Zeus’ stolen bolt. Alas, Zeus doesn’t care about the fact that Percy didn’t steal it, nor that he brought it back. He’s preparing for war regardless, and Percy only gets to leave because he brought the news of Kronos attempting to return.
Unsurprisingly, Reddick makes for the perfect Zeus, and Scobell readily agrees. Looking back on working with the actor, Scobell remained reverent of the actor beloved for “The Wire” and “John Wick.

Spoiler Alert: This article contains spoilers for the season finale of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians,” now streaming on Disney+.
The first season of the long-awaited “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” series on Disney+ has come to a close, and it ended the same way Rick Riordan’s first book did: Percy (Walker Scobell), Annabeth (Leah Sava Jeffries) and Grover (Aryan Simhadri) part ways before the school year, knowing that they’ll reunite in the not-so-distant future with a bit more world-saving to do. But the journey to get there was often unpredictable, even for fans of the novel.
Most notably, Percy fails his quest. He and his friends miss the summer solstice deadline to find and return Zeus’ (the late Lance Reddick) stolen master lightning bolt, kicking off a war between Zeus and Poseidon (Toby Stephens) — and marking the series’ biggest departure from the book. Still, the kids plunge...

The Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 1 finale finally introduces the late Lance Reddick as Zeus, sky god and King of Olympus. Zeus’ presence has lingered all season long as Percy (Walker Scobell), Annabeth (Leah Sava Jeffries), and Grover (Aryan Simhadri) searched for his stolen master bolt and worked to uncover the identity of the lightning thief. With Toby Stephens‘ Poseidon and Jay Duplass‘ Hades introduced in Episode 7, Zeus is the last remaining god of the Big Three left to meet before the season comes to an end. Reddick died on March 17, 2023 of complications from Ischemic Heart Disease and Atherosclerotic Coronary Artery Disease. The 60-year-old’s death was a shock to all, and his absence is sorely felt by the Percy Jackson team. While he only appears in the Episode 8 finale, “The Prophecy Comes True”, his time on set made an impact on those who worked with him. TV Insider...

The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films has announced that Keanu Reeves will receive the inaugural Lance Reddick Legacy Award at the 51st Saturn Awards. The entire show will be dedicated to the memory of the late Reddick, who died at the age of 60 in March 2023.
Reeves, who was friends with Reddick, starred alongside him in the “John Wick” action-thriller franchise. Reddick appeared in all four movies as Charon, the concierge at the Continental hotel, where his character interfaced with Reeves’ titular hitman.
Academy president Robert Holguin and Saturn producers Bradley and Kevin Marcus released a statement on Reeves’ forthcoming honor: “This award symbolizes and celebrates not only a performer’s talent, but their character; someone who’s a true goodwill ambassador in the industry. From science fiction (‘The Matrix Trilogy’), fantasy (‘Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure’/’Constantine’) and horror (Francis Ford Coppola’s ‘Dracula’/’The Devil’sAdvocate’), Keanu...

A year ago, we heard that Jeffrey Reddick, whose horror credits include Final Destination, Final Destination 2, Tamara, Day of the Dead 2008, Dead Awake, and Don’t Look Back, was teaming up with fellow genre regulars Felissa Rose (Sleepaway Camp) and Dave Sheridan (Victor Crowley) to produce the slasher New Fears Eve. That project is now making its way through post-production – and as we head into the holiday weekend, a poster for New Fears Eve has arrived online! You can check it out at the bottom of this article.

The cast and crew of Percy Jackson and the Olympians took over the Metropolitan Museum of Art on Wednesday night for the New York premiere of the Disney+ series.
Walker Scobell, Leah Sava Jeffries, Aryan Simhadri, Jason Mantsoukas, Glynn Turman, Dior Goodjohn and more of the show’s stars hit the blue carpet to celebrate the series and discussed working with Lin-Manuel Miranda, who has a recurring role as Hermes in the series, and the late Lance Reddick, who plays Zeus.
“Lin is exactly how you’d expect Lin-Manuel Miranda to be,” Scobell, who plays Percy Jackson in the series, told The Hollywood Reporter. “He’ll randomly just break into song in between takes. It’s hilarious.”
Simhadri, who portrays Grover, shared that working with Miranda was “crazy.” “Getting to work with one of the greatest minds of our generation [on Broadway] and out, I mean, how do you not freak out in that kind of situation?...

The longer a television series runs, the higher the chance that there's a bad episode or two, and that's even the case with the incredible FX comedy series "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia." Fans of the series will tell you that even the worst episode of "Always Sunny" is better than the best episodes of most other comedies, but there are still some weaker entries that just don't stand up to the "Sunny" standard.
There are a handful of episodes that are less beloved by fans than the rest, but there's one in particular that seems to be universally reviled. In an interview with Deadline in 2018, "It's Always Sunny" star and creator Rob McElhenney shared his feelings about the series' most unpopular episode, and it turns out that he's actually a pretty big fan! Sometimes what's funny to one person isn't to another, and apparently McElhenney finds the episode fiercely funny,...

Horror has come into its own in the 21st century. This is not to say that the genre has ever not been one of the most interesting and creative in the long history of cinema. Since nearly the beginning of the art form, using moving images to scare audiences has been a gateway for aspirin filmmakers to break into the industry—or for even veterans to creatively something about the greater world by painting a landscape of anxiety.
Nonetheless, the 21st century (particularly beginning in its second decade) has brought a renewed appreciation for scary movies’ abilities to speak to audiences with more than just “boo.” With that in mind, we at Den of Geek have polled our staff and collected the below list of what we generally consider to be the best chillers of the fast quarter-century or so. Enjoy.

We used to call games like this “shovelware.” Hellboy Web of Wyrd wasn’t made to do much more than attract fans of the character. It kills time, and that’s about it.
It’s honestly a shame. This might be the single best video game recreation of Hellboy creator Mike Mignola’s atmospheric art style. The cel-shaded graphics and heavy use of shadow make Web of Wyrd, in its best moments, look exactly like the comic. It also features the late Lance Reddick as the voice of Hellboy, and Reddick never had a poor performance in his life.
As a game, however, Web of Wyrd is a shooting gallery. It’s not offensively bad, but it isn’t particularly entertaining either. You explore a surreal dungeon, punch animated statues, gather currency and upgrades, then go back to base and do it all over again. Every enemy is either a...

Long before he made Popeye Doyle race a Brooklyn subway and Regan MacNeil’s head spin, William Friedkin began his career doing live TV. He’d move on to an episode of The Alfred Hitchcock Hour, short documentaries, a Sonny-and-Cher joint (Good Times), theatrical adaptations (The Birthday Party, The Boys in the Band), and then an all-guts-all-glory double shot that instantly made him a New Hollywood power player. But like a lot of directors coming up in the early 1960s, his roots were with actors, words, conflict, and not much more.

William Friedkin is gone, and he leaves us with one final film, the stirring, effective courtroom drama "The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial." Adapted by Friedkin from Herman Wouk's play, "The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial" runs the risk of being too stagey; too much like a play merely transported to the screen without anything cinematic to add. Thankfully, Friedkin knows exactly how to make the film bullet along, aided by snappy, quick-paced editing from Darrin Navarro.
Friedkin and cinematographer Michael Grady keep things seemingly simple — the bulk of the film is set in one courtroom. But the camera and its placement help set the stage, conveying so much by simply showcasing — or not showcasing — the actors and their surroundings. When Friedkin wants to convey the isolation of certain characters, he places them alone in the frame, cutting against wide shots that help situate us in a specific spot. As a result, the...

The video game Hellboy: Web of Wyrd is heading our way from developer Upstream Arcade and publisher Good Shepherd Entertainment – but it’s going to arrive two weeks later than previously expected. While an October 4th release date had been announced for the game, it has now been pushed back to October 18th. In a press release, Good Shepherd assured fans, “Developer Upstream Arcade is still hard at work ensuring that all players—longtime fans and newcomers to the Hellboy universe alike—receive the best experience possible.“

The Continental: From the World of John Wick director Albert Hughes first crossed paths with John Wick masterminds Chad Stahelski and David Leitch in 2008. At the time, Stahelski and Leitch had only recently decided to make the jump from stunt work to the director’s chair, beginning with second unit. So they interviewed for the second-unit gig on The Book of Eli, which Hughes co-directed alongside his twin brother, Allen. Stahelski and Leitch didn’t end up with the job, but it didn’t stop them from achieving their directorial dream a handful of years later when they co-directed the Keanu Reeves actioner John Wick.

The first entry in the John Wick extended universe begins with a long-haired man in a black suit blasting his way through the hallways of a New York City hotel. At first, it’s comforting to return to such familiar territory, but it soon becomes clear that while the name above the door might still say “The Continental,” this isn’t the luxuriously styled, endlessly idiosyncratic world we’ve come to know from the four John Wick films. Rather, The Continental is the equivalent of a budget hotel: cheap, charmless, and generic.
In the Peacock series, the man in the suit isn’t Keanu Reeves’s John Wick, but a new character named Frankie Scott (Ben Robson). He concludes his one-man assault on the Continental by disappearing into the night with an invaluable piece of hotel property, much to the chagrin of manager Cormac (Mel Gibson), a keyed-up psychopath with...

Somewhere, at any given moment, there’s a film director adapting a stage play to the big screen. Yet it’s rare, and fascinating, to see a filmmaker steeped to the gills in cinema as cinema who also has a grand obsession with the theater. Robert Altman was like that. His great films of the ’70s were so naturalistic they seemed to dissolve the edges of the movie frame, yet in the ’80s, starting with “Come Back to the Five & Dime Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean,” he adapted nine plays in a row, the last of which, in 1988, was a darkly solid made-for-tv version of “The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial.”
William Friedkin, the legendary director who passed away last month, just before his 88th birthday, represents another case like Altman’s. In the early ’70s, when Friedkin commandeered Hollywood and the world with the extraordinary one-two punch of “The French Connection” (1971) and...

The last works by artists who have just died often acquire a strange patina of significance. Whether the deceased knew the work would be their last or not, it’s almost impossible not to read into them a foreshadowing of the maker’s imminent departure, a railing against the dying of the light or a tidy return to earlier themes.
The storied director William Friedkin passed on Aug. 7 at the age of 87, just weeks after he completed his last feature film, The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial. I don’t know if Friedkin was aware this would be his last when he decided to make it, but it does feel like a fitting final artistic word in many ways. Like so many of his other movies, it’s pithy, punchy, a little shouty at times, but made with brio and swagger.
From the earliest days of his filmmaking career, he was drawn to theatrical material.
