Twenty years on, School of Rock remains one of the most fun, beloved movies of the early part of the 2000s. But it got off to a tough start, as Richard Linklater recently revealed that he had to fire one of the original child actors on School of Rock for having a massive ego.
In a new oral history published in Rolling Stone, Linklater said that School of Rock got off to a rough start before cameras even rolled, as the original Marco (eventually played by James Hosey) was upset about his lack of lines. “I shouldn’t even be saying all this publicly.… It was in rehearsals. There was a kid who wasn’t with the program, so there were tough decisions to be made. I think he wanted a bigger part.”

They don’t need no education, but they may head back to the classroom anyway, as Jack Black has assured fans that there will be a School of Rock reunion this year to celebrate the movie’s 20th anniversary.
Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Black said this was as good a time as any to have a School of Rock reunion. “All those kids–dig this–they were 10 years old when we made that movie and now they’re all, like, 30…We’re gonna get together and have a 20-year anniversary. We like to jam. I’m looking forward to seeing all of the grownups from School of Rock.” Of note, there was also a 10-year reunion a decade ago that featured the cast attending a screening and even taking the stage to perform a few numbers.

Jack Black posed for photographs with his young co-stars from the 2003 comedy hit at a reunion event in Austin, Texas on Thursday (August 29).
Miranda Cosgrove - who found fame after appearing in the film - also appeared at the event, which saw the cast meet fans before attending a screening and Q&A session.
Cosgrove posted a picture with Black, 44, with the caption: "10 year School of Rock reunion! Sooo good to see everyone :) #greatmemories."
