Mongolian folk-metal act The Hu have released an instrumental version of their 2019 debut album The Gereg, available to stream below.
All 12 tracks from the original album have been digitally remastered in Dolby Atmos, giving full clarity to the band’s musical prowess. The Hu assert that the instrumental version offers an “all-new listening experience” and emphasizes sonic layers that may have not been as apparent on the original vocal mixes of the songs.
“The Gereg album is the first album that introduced the Hunnu Rock genre to the world and introduced us to the world,” said the band in a collective statement. “In both the deluxe and the original album of our first album, we used many different instruments and pieces. Therefore, releasing the instrumentals of the album makes me very happy and fulfilled. I am sure our fans will enjoy listening to all the different sounds.”

After surprising and captivating the audience on the Nashville stop of “The Revolutions Live Tour” with a performance of “Scars” with surprise guest, Chris Daughtry, rock legends Papa Roach have shared the brand new live version of their hit single. This track is out now and streaming here.
“Scars (feat Chris Daughtry) (Live)” is not only a fresh take on one of the band’s biggest hits, but it also serves as the latest release on the band’s latest EP “Leave A Light On (Talk Away The Dark)”. The iconic song’s message of the complexity of emotional pain, the challenges often inherent in communicating one’s feelings, and the necessary bravery in being vulnerable rings just as true today as it did when released in 2004.

Brent Smith was sitting in a slow-moving line of ATVs and golf carts at the Blue Ridge Rock Festival in September when he saw them start to assemble. Thousands of fans — a growing sea of humanity — were slowly recognizing the lead singer of Shinedown as he, members of Papa Roach, and viral country singer Oliver Anthony all motored into a nearby field in search of a stage.

From its opening landscape shot of a forest complete with moody voice on top, The Retaliators looks very good indeed. There is definitely an energy reminiscent of a heavy metal music video here, in both sound and visuals, but it works well with the theme and the tone of the movie. Directed by Samuel Gonzalez Jr. and Bridget Smith and penned by the team of Darren Geare and Jeff Allen Geare, this is a good old revenge flick and boy-oh-boy do I enjoy a revenge flick.
There is something very bitterly precise about this, something that looks you in the eye and doesn’t look away, a solid sledgehammer to the face in the guise of vengeance.

Papa Roach have infested the home goods game: Introducing the “Cut My Life into Pizzas” pizza cutter.
The rock act has unveiled a new line of home and kitchen wares cheekily dubbed “Broken Home Goods,” highlighted by the aforementioned ‘za cutter ($29.99) that parodies the opening line of Papa Roach’s iconic hit “Last Resort.”
The rest of the product line features similarly punny goods such as “Ego Drip” coffee ($29.99) — complete with “Grind These Beans into Pieces” travel tumbler ($39.99) — and the official Papa’s Kitchen apron ($29.99), which the band can be seen wearing above.
Combo bundles are also available for the pizza cutter and apron ($46.99) and the coffee/tumbler ($59.49). If you’ve got a nu-metal loving chef in your life, Jacoby Shaddix and company have got you covered.

Spiritbox have released the raging new song “Cellar Door” from their upcoming EP, The Fear of Fear, due out on Nov. 3 via Rise Records/Pale Chord.
Musically, the song is one of the heaviest Spiritbox tracks to date, with crushing guitars and thick sonics. Visually, the accompanying video is very Halloween-appropriate, with singer Courtney Laplante and company performing under a full moon.
The Fear of Fear follows the band’s acclaimed 2021 debut album, Eternal Blue, which established Spiritbox as one of metal’s rising acts. The EP also includes the previously released singles “The Void” and “Jaded.”
The Canadian act has spent much of this year on the road, touring in Europe and North America, including their first-ever US headlining tour, which was sold out. The band is currently wrapping up a tour with Shinedown and Papa Roach, with tickets to the remaining shows available here.

Oliver Anthony, Papa Roach, and Shinedown unexpectedly linked up for a fully acoustic show — and a joint cover of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Simple Man” — after the Blue Ridge Rock Festival was upended by severe weather.

As we reported earlier on Sunday (September 10th), this weekend’s Blue Ridge Rock Festival at the Virginia International Raceway was plagued by severe weather, causing most of the four-day event to be canceled. However, at least one bright moment occurred, when viral sensation Oliver Anthony joined Papa Roach and Shinedown to perform an impromptu acoustic set in the parking lot on Saturday (September 9th) for fans who missed out on seeing their favorite bands.
Blue Ridge Rock Festival was set to be one of the biggest hard rock and metal festivals ever in the United States, with dozens of bands scheduled to play each day. Thursday’s lineup was cut short due to storms, while Friday went on as planned. However, most of Saturday and all of Sunday were outright canceled with organizers citing more severe weather in the forecast, although there are reports that stage hands walked off...

Virginia’s Blue Ridge Rock Festival — featuring headliners like Slipknot, Megadeth, Pantera and more — canceled the majority of its festivities this weekend after severe weather invaded the area.
The issues started Thursday, the sold-out fest’s opening night, when a lightning storm, heavy rain and hail and strong winds swept into the area, forcing the immediate evacuation of the Virginia International Raceway; however, evacuations were slow, Loudwire reported, with many fans getting stuck in the weather while awaiting buses to take them to shelter.

The massive 2023 Blue Ridge Rock Festival was set to take place over four days from Thursday (September 7th) through Sunday (September 10th) at the Virginia International Raceway, but due to severe weather and unsafe conditions, most of the event was canceled.
A sudden storm hit on Thursday afternoon as Coheed and Cambria had just begun their set, forcing the fest to shut down for the day and preventing the biggest bands and headliners from performing. Fans missed out on sets from Five Finger Death Punch, Staind, Evanescence, Rise Against, and more.
Friday’s bill went on as planned, with Slipknot and Danzig headlining, although Rammstein singer Till Lindemann canceled his set due to illness.
However, things took a turn for the worse early on Saturday, when anticipated weather once again shut down the festival, with organizers determining that Sunday needed to be canceled as well. That meant that bands like Pantera,...

In This Moment have unveiled “Godmode” — the title track from the Los Angeles alt-metal band’s forthcoming album arriving October 27th.
The song is one of the most diverse musical offerings from Itm to date. Opening with an electronic pulse, the band go full on electro-industrial for the first half of the track, with the chorus taking a more metal-based direction. Maria Brink’s vocals follow suit, shedding a mask of glitchy distortion before cutting clean through the mix.
“The lyrics came from feeling powerful and tribal and entrancing,” Brink commented in a press statement. “The fact that [guitarist] Chris [Howorth] gets me so much that I can literally send him a voicemail and he sends it back to me in music form shows how in tune we are. It’s been a long time since I screamed on an entire verse for a song. I wanted to release a bunch of stuff and it felt visceral.

Merriam-Webster is nearly a 200-year-old company, so when the famed dictionary and encyclopedia publisher tweets something, we take its word at fact. And if Merriam-Webster is telling us that the individual words to the opening line of Papa Roach’s nu-metal anthem “Last Resort” make up the “Top Lookups Right Now,” we have no reason to doubt it.
On Monday (June 12th), Merriam-Webster tweeted (see below), “We’re not even mad; this is amazing,” alongside a chart of what appears to be the Top 10 words searched on the company’s dictionary site. The words, in order, are: “cut,” “my,” life,” “into,” “pieces,” “this,” “is,” “my,” “last,” “resort.”
It’s not April 1st, so we know it’s not an April Fool’s Day prank, but one astute person questioned why “my” was listed twice. Merriam-Webster cleverly responded, “We noticed this too. Must be both the adjective and the abbreviation?”

Evanescence’s 2003 anthem “Bring Me to Life” famously features a rap-metal section. For a while, Amy Lee abandoned that part of the song during the band’s live shows, but lately she’s re-embraced it with the help of some notable vocalists.
For Evanescence’s rendition of “Bring Me to Life” at the Rock Am Ring festival in Germany on Saturday (June 3rd), the band tapped a nu-metal luminary who had performed earlier that day: Jacoby Shaddix of Papa Roach.
Shaddix was a natural fit — especially considering he helped pioneer the nu-metal rap style with Papa Roach — nailing the vocal part that was performed by Paul McCoy of 12 Stones on the original recording.
Last year, Lee recruited P.O.D. singer Sonny Sandoval to perform the rap section of “Bring Me to Life” during a few shows.

This post contains spoilers for the "Yellowjackets" season 2 finale.
The season 2 finale of "Yellowjackets" is out, and fans aren't 100% thrilled. A lot of the backlash so far has centered around the death of adult Natalie (Juliette Lewis), a plot point that was arguably a little rushed and unsatisfying. The other major point of contention is with the resolution of the long-running Adam subplot. Shauna (Melanie Lynskey) killed a guy she was having an affair with in season 1, and after a full season of the police closing in on her, the situation's been resolved not through the actions of Shauna herself, but with the help of Walter (Elijah Wood), a man Shauna's never even met.
For a lot of fans, this conclusion is a little too convenient. It's made worse because Walter's whole plan doesn't hold up to scrutiny in the slightest. There's no way an experienced detective would casually accept...

One of the things we love most about the dark Showtime series “Yellowjackets” is all the fantastic ’90s music. Half of the show takes place in 1996, when high school girls’ soccer team crash lands in the wilderness and half is set 25 years later, with the still traumatized adult survivors.
Season 2 features an exclusive track by Florence + the Machine, an eerie cover of No Doubt’s “Just a Girl,” Sharon Van Etten’s “Seventeen,” and such ’90s feminist icons as Tori Amos.
And of course, we love the kind of creepy main title theme, “No Return,” by Craig Wedren and Anna Waronker. The opening credits from Season 1 teased some of the things we would see unfold, and the updated Season 2 credits sequence also gives us hints at what we’ll see in upcoming episodes.

Since its 2021 debut, "Yellowjackets" has had the best soundtrack on TV, and season 2 kept up the momentum across its nine-episode run. Half of "Yellowjackets" is set in the 1990s and so the soundtrack pulls mostly from that era, especially indie rock, pop punk, and grunge. Those styles congeal into "No Return," the show's hypnotic original theme crafted by Anna Waronker and Craig Wedren. It sounds like the kind of song the characters could have listened to as teenagers and one that hints at their dark descent.

This post contains spoilers for "Yellowjackets" and discusses potentially triggering content.
By their very nature, most survival thrillers are predicated on the suspense of whether characters will prevail against the forces of nature and ultimately live through their current scenario in the wild. Showtime's "Yellowjackets" is uniquely structured in this respect, since it toggles between teen and adult versions of the same characters in the past and present. It's never in question if central characters like Shauna, Taissa, Misty, Sophie, and now, Lottie and Van, will survive past youth. Instead, the viewer is left speculating about how they did so and what exactly they lived through in order to become the dysfunctional adults they are in the present.
In the case of teen Shauna (Sophie Nélisse), ever since the audience learned that she was pregnant, the mystery of what happened to her baby had also hung over "Yellowjackets." As of...

With about a week left to go, Atlantic City’s Bamboozle Festival was shut down before it even opened its doors. The concert had been set to feature Limp Bizkit, Rick Ross, Papa Roach, and DJ Steve Aoki.

In Showtime's "Yellowjackets," the dream of '90s alt-rock is alive and well and snacking on a human ear in the Canadian wilderness. You could draw up a playlist for this show and it would be like tuning into your local alternative station, back when FM radio was more of a thing, too. For Warren Kole, who plays Jeff Sadecki, husband of Shauna (Melanie Lynskey), there's one song, however, that was nothing if not an acquired taste.
We're talking about Papa Roach's "Last Resort." It would be unfair to call Papa Roach a one-hit wonder, since they've had six songs make the Billboard Hot 100 chart over the course of their illustrious nu-metal career, but for casual fans of a certain age, "Last Resort" is undoubtedly the band's best-known song. For his part, Kole would not even qualify as a casual fan, since he had never heard the song before...

This article contains spoilers through the latest episode of Yellowjackets
Yellowjackets has been doing deep-cut needledrops since before Stranger Things season 4 made it cool. While the series certainly leans into the late ’90s setting of the plane crash flashbacks for much of its music (as it should), the present day timeline keeps the series from feeling too limited in its scope of song choices. Yellowjackets is one of the few shows that could pull off having songs from Papa Roach and Sharon Van Etten in the same episode without it being too distracting. Instead, this eclectic mix of music shows that the music supervisor and showrunners know how important the right song is to the story.
Yellowjackets may cover heavy things like trauma and cannibalism, but that doesn’t mean that its soundtrack can’t be full of bops and bangers, including the title sequence song “No Return” by Anna Waronker and Craig Wedren.

It’s early yet in Yellowjackets‘ second season, but we’d like to nominate “I could’ve gone strawberry” — uttered by Jeff in this week’s episode — as a strong contender for our second favorite line said by Shauna’s bewildered husband. (Because, c’mon, it’s not likely that anything will top Season 1’s “There’s no book club?!“)

This Yellowjackets review contains spoilers.
Yellowjackets Season 2 Episode 1
Yellowjackets’ season 2 premiere opens with an extended montage centered on the series’ emergent antagonist, cultish mystic Lottie. It’s set to Sharon Van Etten’s “Seventeen,” a Springsteenian anthem in which she has a conversation with her younger self. “I know what you’re gonna be/Afraid that you’ll be just like me/But you’re just seventeen.” The song is a perfect fit for this manic, macabre coming-of-age tale. Clever artistic choices like this are what made season 1 so damn cool, and judging from this first episode, season 2 looks to be another smart, stylish cocktail of murder, mayhem, and mystery, garnished with a twist of nostalgia for good measure.
We learned at the end of last season that Lottie was the one who sent her fellow survivors the cryptic postcards, likely killed Travis, and most definitely arranged for Natalie’s abduction.

Spoiler Alert: This post contains spoilers from “Friends, Romans, Countrymen,” the Season 2 premiere of “Yellowjackets,” now streaming on Showtime.
Surviving a brutally cold winter in the wilderness, cannibalism and trauma are factors that Warren Kole’s Jeff doesn’t have to reckon with in “Yellowjackets.”
Instead, he’s facing up to Shauna’s (Melanie Lynskey) infidelity while trying to save his furniture store that nearly went out of business. And he’s helping to cover up the murder of Adam (Peter Gadiot), with whom Shauna was having an affair.
The “Yellowjackets” Season 2 premiere, titled “Friends, Romans, Countrymen,” sees Jeff and Shauna back in Adam’s studio, where they discover Adam’s shrine of Shauna sketches. Cue Shauna and Jeff destroying all evidence of the affair, but not before having sex on his desk.
Is Jeff mad at Shauna? Does he love her? How does he feel?

Spoiler Alert: This interview contains spoilers for the first episode of “Yellowjackets” on Showtime.
Showtime’s “Yellowjackets” is back, and viewers who hoped to hear a song from ’90s icon Tori Amos finally get their wish, as music supervisor Nora Felder delivers a tasty treat in the form of the 1994 song “Cornflake Girl.”
Felder replaces former music supervisor Jen Malone, having helped Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill” soar up the streaming charts with “Stranger Things” Season 4.
“Cornflake Girl” closes out the first episode. Teen Shauna (Sophie Nélisse) has a hard time saying goodbye to Jackie (Ella Purnell), who froze to death in the Season 1 finale, after the two best friends had a fight, and Jackie spent the night outside in a snit. Shauna, guilt-ridden, spends much of the Season 2 premiere with Jackie’s corpse in the meat shed, talking to her (guest star Purnell talks back).

In "Yellowjackets," no character proved how wrong first impressions can be like Jeff Sadecki (Warren Kole) did. During the first season, he was set up to be a philandering scumbag who didn't love his wife Shauna (Melanie Lynskey) anymore — hence why Shauna felt comfortable cheating on him with the enigmatic artist Adam (Peter Gadiot). When it turned out he was blackmailing Shaun and her friends with the truth of what they did those 19 months in the wilderness, suspicions seemed confirmed.
Then Shauna confronted Jeff, and the truth came out: he wasn't cheating on her, just indebted to loan sharks after trying to keep his business afloat. His dorky dad/milquetoast wife guy persona isn't cover for a dark side -- it's just who he is. While he's charmingly oblivious ("there's no book club?!"), he's also dependable — he volunteered to...

One of the things you can't deny about Showtime's runaway hit "Yellowjackets" is that it's got a killer soundtrack. Even before we got to hear its catchy theme song from Anna Waronker and Craig Wedren, the pilot episode set up one of the show's recurring elements: a soundtrack that consists of both '90s classics and deep cuts. The show's second season is no different — after all, they are still fighting for survival during the late '90s portion of the show.
Even if this isn't taken into consideration, the 1990s were a great time for music, as evidenced throughout "Yellowjackets." If you weren't privy to living through the '90s, some of these songs might be delighting your ears for the very first time, and as such, might be too entranced to open your Shazam app to ask, "what song is playing?...

The wait is over, winter has come, and "Yellowjackets" is back for a second season! Travis and Nat are still hunting for food, but now with the added perk of being "blessed" by Lottie before each venture into the wilderness. She puts ashes in their hands, smudges smoke around them, offers a bit of bloodletting, and some non-descript tea. Is Lottie actually supernatural or just dabbling in "teen girl discovers vague witchcraft 101?" The jury is still out, but she does draw the mysterious symbol in the fogged-up windows, so regardless of what anyone else believes, Lottie is all-in on the dead man's cabin superstitions.
In a shocking development, the episode does a brief flash forward to 1998, after the rescue. It seems that after the team was found, Lottie completely shut down. She stares off in silence as her parents...

Nu Metal band Papa Roach took to the internet Friday to acknowledge a spreading meme suggesting that House Speaker Paul Ryan retreated to his car after the defeat of his proposed American Health Care Act and played the band’s angsty suicide-themed 2000 hit “Last Resort.” “When we feel defeated we listen to Paul Ryan,” snarked the band on its official Twitter account. “But seriously,” the band added in a follow-up tweet, “Last Resort was written about suicide, if anyone is feeling get help at @800273Talk.” Also Read: Paul Ryan and Papa Roach's 'Last Resort': Twitter Loves a Story Too Funny To Be.

After the health care defeat suffered by Speaker of the House Paul Ryan and President Trump, did Ryan really console himself with the music of Nu Metal band Papa Roach? No. But thanks to a hilarious Photoshop job by humorist Justin Halpern, Twitter has decided a story too good to be true should just be declared true. The background: Despite months of campaign promises, Ryan and Trump were unable to whip up the votes necessary to pass the Gop bill that would “repeal and replace” the Affordable Care Act — a.k.a. “Obamacare.” This even though their party controls both houses of Congress.

Zen Studios, the team behind titles such as Zen Pinball and CastleStorm, have announced that they will be releasing a Special Edition of KickBeat on the PlayStation 4 and Wii U next week. The rhythm-based brawler previously launched for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita in 2013.
Set in a world where every last piece of music is being stolen, players must fight to the rhythm of the remaining 18 songs in order to save the day. The soundtrack for KickBeat features several popular songs, including Marilyn Manson’s “The Beautiful People,” Papa Roach’s “Last Resort,” Pod’s “Boom” and more. The Special Edition will feature a handful of additional levels and tracks, as well as a music-analyzing feature that will create new levels based around user-selected songs.
I haven’t had the chance to play through the original KickBeat yet, but reviews for the title were solid enough. Our own John Fleury...

I've been on MTV VMAs duty tonight, so this "Big Brother" recap is a bit late. Apologies. Since's it's already a bit late, I'm also not sure how much I'm likely to care about a Sunday telecast. Apologies for that as well. But I'll try to convey the basics of what goes down on Sunday's (August 24) "Big Brother" telecast. 8:02 p.m. When we left things, Nicole had just reentered the game and Zach was permanently dispatched and there was the potential for anarchy amongst the hamsters. And yes, "Anarchy Amongst the Hamsters" is also the title of my autobiography. 8:03 p.m. "I have a second shot to win this game and I am so ready," an excited Nicole says. "She's definitely not my No.1 choice to come back into the House," Derrick says. Ariana Grande's Brother says he's looking forward to getting Nicole and Donny out, while...

Rock band Saliva has a new album, Rise Up, dropping today, and they've been rolling out track-by-track webisodes with lead singer Bobby Amaru describing each song; we have the pleasure of debuting the final two: "The Enemy" and "I Don't Want It"!

Longtime Saliva fans should be beyond pleased with Rise Up as the band's label, Rum Bum Records, promises "a bold record full of big hooks, major swagger, and plenty of amazing guitar work."
Along with the webisodes, to give you a taste of the other tracks, we've included the full album teaser video, which provides a few seconds of each song on Rise Up.

Post-grunge, as defined by Urban Dictionary is “Basically a watered-down, radio-friendly version of grunge music.” But as any music snob can tell you, the scourge of post-grunge goes far deeper. But in that case, just what does that really mean?
Much like post-rock and post-metal, post-grunge typically encapsulates the worst tropes of the 90s while endeavouring to reach a much wider audience. While metallic guitars are prevalent, album production is often of an arguably much higher, cleaner quality. However with a more gentrified sound, most post-grunge bands struggle to define themselves as separate entities, often relying on similar sounds and production. Perhaps a better descriptor would be ‘sad hard rock with down tuning’.
But still, some people have built empires of the mope-scream-mope dynamic. Some have risen. Some have fallen. And some have neither done neither, just plodding along and slowly declining as all post-grunge is want to do.
