Cult classic sitcom Green Wing has been resurrected as a podcast with the original cast and creative team.
Back in 2004, fresh from the success of sketch show Smack The Pony, writer Victoria Pile created Green Wing, a sitcom set in a hospital.
With an ensemble cast that included Tamsin Greig and Stephen Mangan – who would later reunite to star opposite Matt LeBlanc in Episodes – the comedy is helped enormously by committed clowning the cast, particularly Mark Heap and Michelle Gomez. The show ran for two series from 2004 to 2006 and, in a move more in common with American sitcoms, had a large pool of writers.
After the show ended, the same creative team made the terrific University comedy Campus in 2009, which despite only running for one series is well worth tracking down, especially for the tour de force performance from Andy Nyman as megalomaniacal monster and Vice Chancellor Jonty De Wolfe.

The Night Manager is one of the most loved British series. The spy thriller is based on John le Carre’s 1993 novel of the same name. The series stars Hugh Laurie as Richard Onslow Roper (Dicky), Tom Hiddleston as Jonathan Pine, Olivia Colman as Angela Burr, Tom Hollander as Major Lance, Elizabeth Debicki as Jemima and others. The series aired in 2016 and received positive reviews.
In The Night Manager, both Tom and Hugh gave exceptional performances. The Loki actor played the spy with such perfection that no one can imagine anyone else as Jonathan Pine. But did you know, that Hugh Laurie once revealed that he wanted to play Tom’s character? Yes, Hugh loved the novel in the 90s itself and wanted to adapt it into a show. However, that didn’t happen until Sussane Beir decided to adapt the book in 2016.

The second season of The Bear proved to be as stress-inducing as it was profound, intimate and heartwarming, so it's no surprise that it received even more prestigious nominations and awards than the previous one. In addition to the storyline revolving around the titular restaurant and its staff, no less dramatic were the star cameos that appeared either as relatives of the protagonists or as prominent personalities in the restaurant world.
One of the most unexpected, but certainly welcome cameos came from Will Poulter, who played the former colleague of Carmy (Jeremy Allen White) and new mentor to Marcus (Lionel Boyce). And now a new set video has surfaced on X, formerly known as Twitter, with Poulter in attendance. All this means that the actor will return to the series and his role may be expanded to a recurring one.

Back in 2013, David Tennant and the not-yet-a-list Olivia Colman broke our brains with the first season of Broadchurch, a series written with a self-contained first season but which proved so popular it lasted for three years.
The outstanding first season of Broadchurch centers around the death of a young boy in a small, seemingly idyllic community. The sudden and horrible death of 11-year-old Danny sends his town in a tailspin. The investigation is run by the cheerful Detective Miller (Colman) and her equally dour partner, the recently transferred Detective Alec Hardy (Tennant).
Part of what made Broadchurch so interesting is that it wasn't just about the 'whodunnit' of it all. The series was not only interested in solving the crime, but also in examining the impact of Danny's death, the resulting media attention, and the investigation on a tight-knit community.
Now, fans of Broadchurch are discovering another David Tennant must-watch crime drama.

After Olivia Coleman, the Marvel star Tatiana Maslany has joined the chorus against the self-taped audition process. The practice, alongside issues such as streaming residuals and artificial intelligence, became a focal point in the collective bargaining negotiations between SAG-AFTRA and the AMPTP in 2023. Originating during the 2019 global pandemic, it has since become a widespread practice in the industry.

Tatiana Maslany opened up about calling Bob Iger “out of touch” during the actors and writers strikes.
In a conversation with The Independent, the She-Hulk star explained how she was feeling when The Hollywood Reporter asked her on the strike picket line what she thought about the Disney CEO saying that unions’ demands during the dual strikes weren’t realistic.
At the time, Iger called on the unions to “be realistic” in their demands and referred to the strikes as “very disturbing,” which Maslany called “completely out of touch.”
“He’s completely out of touch with the workers who make his shows happen, who make people watch these shows, who bring viewers to him and him money,” Maslany said at the time. “Having worked on a Disney show, I know where people fall through the cracks and where people are taken advantage of, and it’s outrageous the amount of...

Olivia Colman’s impressive range as an actress seems to know no bounds. A favorite in the UK for her television work in such sitcoms as “The Office” and “Fleabag,” TV audiences also lauded her for her dramatic performances in “Broadchurch” and “The Night Manager,” as well as more recently with “The Crown” and “Landscapers.” But it has been her estimable work in films that continues to bring her international renown.
With such acclaim from audiences, it was inevitable that awards would begin coming her way. She took home the Oscar for Best Actress for “The Favourite” (2018) and scored an additional Best Supporting Actress nomination for “The Father” (2020). For her work in television, Colman has received four Emmy bids, winning for “The Crown.” She also claimed Golden Globe statues for both TV (“The Night Manager” and “The Crown”) and film (“The Favourite”). Tom Hiddleston will reprise his role as Jonathan Pine in two further series of The Night Manager, based on characters created by John Le Carre.
Back in 2018, The Night Manager was a huge hit for the BBC, winning 36 awards including two Emmys, a BAFTA and several Golden Globes.
Adapted from the 1993 novel by John Le Carre, the show followed Jonathan Pine (Tom Hiddleston), the night manager of a high class hotel in Cairo, who is recruited by Angela Burr (Olivia Colman), the manager of a Foreign Office task force, to infiltrate the inner circle of sinister arms dealer Richard Roper (Hugh Laurie).
It was a glossy, big budget production, and writer David Farr expertly crafted Le Carre’s twisty plot into six exhilarating hours of drama.

Amazon and the BBC are teaming to revive the Emmy- and BAFTA-winning thriller The Night Manager, eight years after its initial run.
Tom Hiddleston will reprise his role in the show, which scored a two-season order from the BBC and Amazon’s Prime Video streaming platform. Series creator David Farr is also set to return as writer. Hiddleston and Hugh Laurie, who starred in the first season, will also be executive producers.
The Ink Factory (The Little Drummer Girl, The Pigeon Tunnel) is producing The Night Manager in association with Character 7, Demarest Films and 127 Wall. The series is a co-production with Spain’s Nostromo Pictures. Georgi Banks-Davies (I Hate Suzie, Paper Girls) will direct all six episodes of season two.
“The first series of The Night Manager was one of the most creatively fulfilling projects I have ever worked on,” Hiddleston said in a statement. “The depth, range and complexity of Jonathan Pine was,...

Greta Gerwig’s blockbuster film could have included a bigger appearance from Proust Barbie. According to actress Lucy Boynton, Barbie originally featured more scenes with the character, who was based on French author Marcel Proust.
Boynton, speaking on SiriusXM’s The Spotlight with Jessica Shaw, explained that she filmed more than the short scene in which she shows up. “Being on that set was wild,” she said. “Being in the Weird Barbie house was surreal. Emma Stone became the lucky 13th two-time Best Actress Oscar champ with her recent win for “Poor Things.” And she could well be adding an Emmy to her awards collection for her leading role in Showtime’s idiosyncratic drama series “The Curse.”
“The Curse,” created by Nathan Fielder and Benny Safdie, follows a newly married couple (Stone and Fielder) who host an HGTV show while trying to conceive a baby and navigate a curse. Sure the series is rich in cringe comedy that is hard to tear your eyes from even if you watch through your fingers. But it is also intelligent, dark and surprisingly moving. At the heart of it all is Stone, who delivers yet another tour de force, as noted by critics.

“The Crown” is on the cusp of history at the Emmys. Imelda Staunton is one of the top contenders for Best Drama Actress for her role as Queen Elizabeth II in the sixth and final season of the Netflix biographical drama. She would be the third Elizabeth II to win for “The Crown,” following Claire Foy and Olivia Colman. That would mean Emmys for every lead actress who played the monarch on the show. And it would make “The Crown” the first show to win Best Drama Actress for three different women.

If Staunton does win this year it would be quite fitting as it would continue the trend of Queens Elizabeth winning on their second try. Foy was first nominated in 2017, but lost to Elisabeth Moss (“The Handmaid’s Tale”). Then Foy won for season two of the series in...

Exclusive: After nabbing a Golden Globe nomination for her turn in Todd Haynes’ May December, Julianne Moore has been tapped to star opposite James McAvoy in Control, an action thriller from StudioCanal and The Picture Company, on which we were first to report.
Based on the podcast from Zack Akers and Skip Bronkie, Control revolves around the troubled Dr. Conway (McAvoy), who wakes up one morning to the sound of a mysterious voice in his head. With his reality now in question, the voice makes a series of escalating demands he must follow or devastating consequences will unfold. While specifics haven’t been disclosed, we hear that Moore plays a pivotal character with which the doctor must contend.
Entering production this month under the direction of Robert Schwentke, Control will be produced by The Picture Company partners Andrew Rona & Alex Heineman under their long-term overall deal with Studiocanal.

Thea Sharrock’s wonderfully sweary Wicked Little Letters is confirmed to be released on DVD and Blu-Ray next month. More here.
Wicked Little Letters, Thea Sharrock’s hilariously sweary real-life drama, is heading to DVD and Blu-Ray. No 4K Uhd for this one, it seems. The film will be available 13th May.
The film is also out now to buy and rent digitally, but if you’re a physical media type of person, you can pre-order your copy, in your chosen format, right here.
The film follows the war between two neighbours. Olivia Colman’s Edith has been receiving really nasty poison-pen letters that call her all kinds of unsavoury names. Edith is convinced that her neighbour Rose is behind them. After all, Rose has a potty mouth and is a rowdy single mother.
In our review, we said this of the film: “Sharrock treads the thin line between drama and comedy well,...

Showtime’s “The Curse” is one of the most unique TV entries of the past year. The acclaimed drama series from Nathan Fielder and Benny Safdie follows a newly married couple (Fielder and Oscar-winner Emma Stone) who host an HGTV show trying to conceive a child while navigating a curse.
The show’s tone and style, a satirical black comedy, makes for extraordinary viewing and while it is classified as a drama for awards purposes, it transcends genre classification in reality. Critics agree, this is one of the most unique and colorful TV shows out there.
Richard Roeper (Chicago Sun-Times) explained: “To its credit, ‘The Curse’ never takes its foot off the pedal, to the point where we’re absolutely sure Whitney and Asher are going to crash and burn — yet we’re still not prepared for the inspired lunacy of the fate that awaits them.”

April began with showers, plus a tiny regional earthquake on the East Coast, but that didn’t keep anyone away from theaters, even if it was a slower weekend than much of March. Read on for the weekend box office report.
There was little surprise that Warner Bros.’ “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” would win its second weekend at #1. Despite dropping 60% from its fantastic opening weekend, it still was able to take first place with an estimated $31.7 million to bring its total to $135 million after crossing the $100 million mark in its first week. It also passed the $361 million mark globally, with another $59.3 million grossed overseas this weekend.
The weekend offered two new wide releases in Dev Patel‘s directorial debut, the action-thriller “Monkey Man,” and 20th Century’s horror prequel “The First Omen,” the former released into 3,029 theaters vs. “The First Omen’s” 3,375 theaters. “Monkey Man” came into the...

Sony Pictures Classics’ Wicked Little Letters grossed an estimated $1.5+ million in a big second week expansion for the R-rated British period comedy to 1,000 screens from five. The Thea Sharrock-directed film starring Olivia Colman (also a producer) and Jessie Buckley, no. 8 at the domestic weekend box office, has a $1.6+ million cume.
Colman and Buckley have been out actively promoting the film, based on an actual scandal, about a police investigation into the anonymous author of crude letters sent to the residents of a British seaside town.
The number is on the high end of SPC’s expectations, and the Sunday estimate may be conservative.
Audiences for Wicked Little Letters are 60% female, 40% male, with a range of women age 30-plus, unusual for a period film as they skew older. It’s playing especially well in major cities and college towns but also popping in smaller markets like Seattle. Word of mouths is terrific,...

You may recall that this January, Sir Elton John became the 19th person ever to win the coveted Egot by claiming his first Emmy. Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire easily took the top spot this weekend at the box office, posting a much stronger-than-expected $31.7 million second weekend. We predicted about $25 million, so this is a significantly more extensive haul than expected for the MonsterVerse sequel, with it falling about 60% in week 2. That’s decent for a tentpole blockbuster like this. Everyone assumed the movie would be front-loaded, but that doesn’t seem to be the case, with it now on its way to at least a $200 million domestic haul – maybe more.
However, Godzilla and Kong’s good fortune at the multiplex spelled doom for two new genre titles – Monkey Man and The First Omen, both of which were gunning for some of that movie’s audience. Of the two, Monkey Man’s $10.1 million haul isn’t half bad if you consider that Universal picked it up for only about $10 million after Netflix opted to dump it.

Andrew Scott and Olivia Colman have been among the most popular and sought-after actors in recent years. Although he became popular thanks to his role in Fleabag, Scott’s breakout performance was BBC’s Sherlock, in which he portrayed an amazing version of Moriarty. Since then, he has starred in the amazing drama All of Us Strangers and is currently set to star as Tom Ripley in Netflix’s series.
Olivia Colman, on the other hand, is a well-known British comedian whose breakout performance was in the crime drama Broadchurch, where she starred alongside David Tennant. Since then, she has landed roles in The Night Manager, as well as her Oscar-winning performance in Yorgos Lanthimos’ The Favourite, among others. The two of them recently had a talk for Interview magazine, as Colman interviewed Scott, and one of the topics that was discussed were self-taped auditions.

Although some may find the new mystery Wicked Little Letters a bit lax in actual mystery, an incredibly strong cast, led by Olivia Colman and Jessie Buckley manages to elevate the film to a wickedly clever piece that makes up for its shortcomings with unabashed enthusiasm and excitement.

Andrew Scott, the hot priest on Fleabag, is showcasing his sense of humor and joked about fans who are still watching the series five years later.
The actor joined Season 2 of the comedy series, becoming Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s Fleabag’s love interest. Ahead of the fifth anniversary since the series finale, Scott has a thing to say to those who have continued to obsess over his character and the show.
“Go out and get some fresh air,” Scott told EW, laughing. “Stop watching. Stop crying. Stop crying in your room with your curtains closed. Do something better with your life. It’s a great show, we all love it, but come on now, pull yourself together. Open the curtains and go outside.”
Andrew Scott has a message for people still watching #Fleabag.

Olivia Colman has joined the chorus of Hollywood stars expressing their distaste for self-taped auditions.
In a new conversation with Andrew Scott published in Interview Magazine, Colman explained why she feels like the entertainment industry’s increased reliance on audition tapes ultimately hurts actors. The practice, which was a sticking point in collective bargaining negotiations between SAG-AFTRA and the AMPTP in 2023, gained widespread popularity during the Covid-19 pandemic before becoming a permanent fixture of the industry. While its supporters cite increased convenience and expanded talent pools as evidence that it’s a beneficial practice, Colman said that self-taped auditions deprive actors of the opportunity to receive feedback and form in-person connections with casting directors.
“It’s very disrespectful. It’s basically a memory test, isn’t it? Because they give it to you really late,” Colman said of self-taped auditions, which often require extensive memorization. “It’s really rude. I...

Vera Drew’s The People’s Joker – which was pulled from TIFF in 2022 over “rights issues” — starts a theatrical debut today at the IFC Center, moving to LA’s Landmark’s Nuart next weekend and expanding thereafter with about 85 booking so far — a nice outcome for the mixed-media coming-of-age dark superhero parody that “had gone into into hibernation mode” until Outfest LA Film Festival, said Frank Jaffe, whose distribution company Altered Innocence acquired it then. It’s U.S premiere garnered a Special Mention in the North American Narrative Feature Competition.
Co-written by Drew and Bri LeRose, the film is a reimagining the origin story of iconic Batman villain The Joker, starring Drew as painfully unfunny aspiring clown and closeted trans girl grappling with her gender identity while unsuccessfully attempting to join the ranks of Gotham City’s sole comedy program, in a world where comedy has been outlawed.
