With the race to replace Boris Johnson as next UK Prime Minister now down to the final two, bosses at BBC New Broadcasting House and Channel 4 Horseferry Road will be examining former Chancellor Rishi Sunak and Foreign Secretary Liz Truss’s record on public broadcasting in minute detail.
Both broadcasters took a battering from Johnson’s firebrand Culture Secretary Nadine Dorries, via a recently announced review into the future of the BBC licence fee and, more existentially, legislation to privatize Channel 4. The pubcasters will now be hoping these drastic moves can be reversed.
Of concern to the BBC, however, Politico reported last week that Sunak has said in private that he would be willing to scrap the £159 (190) per year annual licence fee and look to alternative funding models when the BBC Charter expires in 2027. BBC bosses have said they are open to new models and are due to set...

ITV has pulled The Wonder of Britain after two episodes due to disappointing ratings.
Julia Bradbury's new series celebrates "Britain's natural and man-made heritage", but attracted around 1.5 million viewers in its first two weeks when up against Silent Witness on BBC One.
The series' remaining three episodes will be screened on the channel at a later date in a different slot. It was replaced by Paul O'Grady's Animal Orphans this week.
An ITV spokeswoman told Radio Times: "ITV has taken the decision to review the scheduling of Wonder of Britain, and we will reschedule the remaining episodes in due course.
"It is a series we are proud of, and we will reintroduce it to viewers at some point in 2015."
The series is the first to be hosted by Bradbury on ITV after leaving Countryfile in 2014.

The 57-year-old TV presenter won an age discrimination case against the BBC after being axed from the popular rural affairs show, but her 43-year-old co-star recently suggested her dismissal in 2009 was due to a format change, and not because of her age. ITV has announced a new 20-part series that will centre on owners as they attempt to find suitable homes for their pets.
Auf Wiedersehen My Pet will begin on March 17, airing on weekdays in the daytime.
Each hourly episode will follow one owner as they meet with three different potential new families for their pet, getting to know their lifestyles in order to help them choose the most suitable home.
The series features a range of animals all needing to be rehomed, starting with Rosie the terrier, who is struggling to get along with fellow dog Pepper - causing tensions within the household.
Other pets for the programme include Skye the horse, a lively 5-year-old horse who requires an energetic family to train her, four guinea pigs - including the geriatric Oliver - and Missy the dog, whose separation anxiety means that she needs a family with a lot of time.

The media is obsessed with whether or not celebrites (usually female ones) are going to have children. But the backlash against this casual sexism has begun
It's the question female celebrities are never too young – or too old – to be asked. Repeatedly.
When faced with a woman – from 20-year-old Selena Gomez to 67-year-old Helen Mirren – one line of inquiry always seems to spring readily to an interviewer's lips: "Do you want children?"
In fact it has become so routine, that when it is posed to a man, it's hard not to feel a jolt. This week, for instance, it was actor Daniel Radcliffe telling Time Out he "definitely want[s] to have kids", because of the "wonderful change" they bring to a parent's life. It's unclear whether Radcliffe offered up his opinion unprompted, or was quizzed directly about his desire to procreate. But what is certain is that female celebrities are...

'You can't make a joke, can you really, without people taking you seriously - it always comes back to haunt you.' BBC have reportedly asked Miriam O’Reilly to return to the fold and compete on the 2011 series of Strictly Come Dancing.
The 54 year old presenter used to present rural affairs show Countryfile for the channel but successfully sued bosses for age discrimination, when she was dropped as host and replaced by glamorous star Julia Bradbury, 40.
She was later hired to front BBCs daytime Crimewatch Roadshow and insiders told The Sunday People that execs are keen to make a big gesture, to show make up for past mistakes.
A source said: They gave her that gig after being hugely embarrassed about the age discrimination action and offering her Strictly would be the ultimate way to make it up to her.”
The insider claimed that talks are at an ‘advanced stage’ and Miriam is on the brink of signing her contract.

The National Movie Awards | Julia Bradbury's Iceland Walk | McFly On The Wall | Justified | Wonderland: The Trouble With Love And Sex | 24 Hours In A&E
The National Movie Awards
8pm, ITV1
Now in its fourth year, and live from Wembley Arena, this awards show is a little different, as all the voting is done by the public. So it's a good opportunity to see if people like Black Swan and The Social Network as much as critics do. A-list Hollywood guests are promised, if yet to be announced, but Jls will perform and Christine Bleakley is presenting – two bits of news that should excite any movie fan. Still, it's a nice level playing field, and probably the only ceremony outside of the Razzies where flicks like Gulliver's Travels and Little Fockers can be real contenders. Phelim O'Neill

BBC One controller Jay Hunt has claimed that allegations she has an ageist attitude are "ridiculous". The broadcasting boss was criticised last year after Arlene Phillips, 66, was dropped from the Strictly Come Dancing judging panel in favour of former winner Alesha Dixon, 31. However, speaking to The Guardian, Hunt insisted: "The simple fact is I am a 43-year-old woman. I feel passionate about how BBC One reflects the audience back to itself.
