"There is no future but what we make for ourselves" — the guiding principle of the Terminator franchise. Unfortunately, the real-life principle has largely amounted to, "There is no future but what Hollywood makes for the rest of us." This is one of those franchises where studios have rebooted, soft-rebooted, legacy-sequeled, and generally mangled what was once an innovative and interesting storyline into an incomprehensible mess — to the point that the saga's main star, Arnold Schwarzenegger, is now done with the franchise.
It's a sad state of affairs for this once great sci-fi story. Still, there's hope as long as creator James Cameron harbors a desire to make another Terminator movie based on A.I. This article contains full spoilers for Atlas.
After surviving an attack orchestrated by the rogue synthetic Harlan (Simu Liu), cyber analyst Atlas (Jennifer Lopez) lands in her mech-suit on a mysterious new planet. And it is there that she notices a strange flower, which the artificial intelligence Smith (voiced by Gregory James Cohan) informs her has never been seen before. When Smith asks what she wants to call the flower, Atlas responds with an uncreative name: “Planty.”
Although Atlas insists that she’s making a joke, Smith accepts the name, and Planty returns at the end of the film as a symbol of the bond formed between human and robot. At the same time, this dull bit of nomenclature illustrates the way AI destroys creativity. Which seems an apt metaphor for the movie it’s in. Because as directed by Brad Peyton and written by Leo Sardarian and Aron Eli Coleite,...

The pop culture nostalgia cycle might have moved on to the early 2000s, but for many filmmakers and movie fans, the '80s will never go out of style. That's certainly true for director Ti West, who returns this year with the third chapter of his horror trilogy that started with 2022's "X" and was shortly followed by a surprise prequel, "Pearl." Star Mia Goth will return for this summer's bloody conclusion, "MaXXXine," in which aspiring adult film star (and massacre survivor) Maxine Minx is now trying to break into mainstream movies with a role in horror movie "The Puritan II."
"MaXXXine" is set in 1985 Los Angeles, six years after the events of "X." West recently told Empire magazine that "the '80s aspect of it was a natural, chronological thing" -- but that it was also a great opportunity to draw inspiration from '80s movies. For many people,...

10. The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1967)
With the backdrop of the Civil War, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly is already pretty epic by default — but it only gets better. Three bounty hunters have to forge an uneasy alliance to find stolen gold before their competitor does, but they don’t trust each other and anyone else. High stakes, high tension, and pure adrenaline.
You can watch The Good, the Bad and the Ugly on Apple TV and Prime Video.
9. The Godfather (1972)
The first movie in Francis Ford Coppola’s iconic trilogy, The Godfather is often dubbed the best gangster movie in history, and that might just be right. Post-wwii America is still largely ruled by the mafia, and the wise and cunning Godfather leads one of them through tumultuous times as he prepares a transfer of power in the family.

Mattson Tomlin, showrunner and writer of the Terminator Zero anime series at Netflix, was not very comfortable writing some parts of season 1 consisting of eight episodes. Amid a few hurdles, the writer had to overcome the biggest problem, and that was eliminating guns from the show. Can you imagine Terminator without guns?
Terminator Zero
The live-action Terminator saga has been action-packed with continuous gun blazing and several explosions. But Netflix, Skydance, and animation studio Production I.G. were all in favor of Terminator Zero to have a Japanese angle. However, Japanese culture is very different from the United States. Japanese gun law has limited the accessibility of guns over the decades, and even the police would first engage in hand-to-hand combat before using guns.

Terminator Zero is all set to take us back into the world of Skynet, this time in the form of an anime series. Despite being set in the universe created by the legendary filmmaker James Cameron in 1984, the upcoming Netflix show will present a new take on the popular franchise.

Following the renowned Arnold Schwarzenegger 1984 film, Terminator has spawned several movies, series, and video games. However, the franchise has seen a steady decline in its popularity over time with some of the worst films like Genisys and Salvation.
Several fans hoped that the upcoming series might use its classic time-travel trope to give justice to the underwhelming Terminator films in some ways. Unfortunately, such a thing is now impossible as the showrunner revealed that Terminator Zero will not mess with the canon in any way.

Despite decent reviews, the last Terminator movie, Dark Fate, was the latest instalment in the franchise to underperform at the box office, and it will probably be a very long time before we see the war against the machines continue on the big screen.
While the saga may be taking a (possibly permanent) break in live-action, a new 8-episode Netflix anime series titled Terminator Zero is on the way, and is set to premiere on August 29.
If that date sounds familiar, we were told that the Judgment Day event occurred on August 29, 1997 in the movies.
The streamer (via EW) has debuted the first official promo images for the show, which will take the classic sci-fi franchise in a completely new direction by moving the story to Tokyo, Japan, and, for the first time, shifting away from Sarah and John Connor, who have (together or separately) featured in all previous Terminator movies.

To say the Terminator timeline is pretty confusing at this point would be an understatement. The franchise, created with the release of James Cameron's seminal 1984 effort "The Terminator," has since been softly rebooted, retconned, and generally mishandled by successive generations of studios and filmmakers. So twisted is the saga's internal timeline that watching the "Terminator" movies in any kind of coherent order has become a challenge not unlike trying to destroy the T-800 himself.
Prior to the release of 2019's "Terminator: Dark Fate," things seemed to be looking up. With the help of James Cameron on producing duties, director Tim Miller decided to forget the three lackluster films that followed the modern classic that is 1991's "Terminator 2: Judgement Day" and simply pick up where that stellar entry in the franchise left off. Linda Hamilton has been one of the trailblazers who changed the industry’s stereotypical portrayal of women in film. Linda Hamilton will be making an appearance in the upcoming Stranger Things, which poetically takes place in the era when she catapulted to fame thanks to The Terminator. Terminator is an important film when it comes to science fiction in Hollywood. Sarah Connor, through the Terminator franchise, has become one of the most recognizable female science fiction protagonists, only superseded by Ripley from Aliens. A recent theory has come to light, pointing out that Sarah Connor might have lied to her son about who his father was, which was originally ‘revealed’ to be his best friend from the future, Kyle Reese.

After their success with RoboCop: Rogue City, Nacon has pulled back the curtain on their previously-announced survival game set in the Terminator universe. Called Terminator: Survivors, the game will launch in Early Access for PC via Steam on October 24, with full launches on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC at a later date.
Hearkening back to that tense moment in the original film where Sarah Connor is relentlessly pursued by the T-800, Terminator: Survivors casts you and your friends as a group of survivors in an open world set in the aftermath of Judgment Day. You are tasked with scouring the surrounding land for materials, information, other survivors and key resources in order to establish a base of operations for your fledgling group.
But obviously, Skynet is out for cleanup with its T-800s, with the goal to exterminate humanity. As Kyle Reese said, they will not stop until you are dead.

Linda Hamilton starred in The Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgment Day as Sarah Connor and later returned for Terminator: Dark Fate, but she is not interested in reprising the role for any further potential reboots. “I’m done. I’m done. I have nothing more to say,” Hamilton told Business Insider. “The story’s been told, and it’s been done to death.“
Hamilton added: “Why anybody would relaunch it is a mystery to me. But I know our Hollywood world is built on relaunches right now.“

Arnold Schwarzenegger shared a similar sentiment last year but believes that the franchise can continue, just not with his involvement.

Linda Hamilton has no interest in returning to the 'Terminator' franchise. The 67-year-old actress played the role of heroine Sarah Connor in three movies in the sci-fi action series but has no desire to reprise the part after the disappointing response to the 2019 flick 'Terminator: Dark Fate'.Speaking to Business Insider, Linda said: "I'm done. Linda Hamilton has played Sarah Connor since 1984’s The Terminator but won’t be returning for another film. More on her comments below.
We’ve known for a while now that James Cameron is keen on writing another Terminator film. Last May, Cameron appeared at a Dell Technologies conference and revealed he is indeed working on a new Terminator script, but has paused work on it while he observed how real-world AI develops.
A new Terminator film would be exciting (potentially), but it would have to happen without Linda Hamilton.
The star, who has played Sarah Connor, the mother of John Connor, in three feature films, recently told Business Insider that she has no plans to return to the role that made her name almost 40 years ago.
“I’m done,” Hamilton said. “I’m done. I have nothing more to say. The story’s been told, and it’s been done to death.

While annual attendees warning newcomers to strap in for a long night ahead is a tradition at the Directors Guild of America Awards, the 2024 show seemed to move pretty steadily without a hitch.
Taking place on Saturday, February 11 at The Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles, the golden medallions mostly went to expected winners like Theatrical Feature Film going to “Oppenheimer” director Christopher Nolan, Michael Apted First-Time Theatrical Feature Film going to “Past Lives” director Celine Song, and Comedy Series going to “The Bear” showrunner/director Christopher Storer for the cameo-packed Season 2 episode “The Fishes.”
However, before those awards were given out, director Lesli Linka Glatter used her President’s Welcome to address an elephant in the room. “This year, members need that connection over our shared craft even more now. Because the last year was so fucking challenging,” she said, with unscripted emphasis. Though the Directors Guild did not strike...

Plot: In a dark corner of the universe controlled by a Fascist regime called The Motherworld, a former soldier named Kora (Sofia Boutella) tries to escape her past by living as a simple farmer on a peaceful moon called The Veldt. When that moon is invaded by The Motherworld and her friends are threatened, Kora sets off to recruit an army of soldiers to battle with the Motherworld and end their tyranny.
Review: Take Star Wars, a liberal amount of Seven Samurai, The Magnificent Seven, and Battle Beyond the Stars, and mix it in with a heavy helping of Heavy Metal (both the magazine and the film), and you end up with Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon. While a bit overstuffed (Snyder maybe made it a little too lean at just over two hours), it’s nonetheless a deliriously entertaining sci-fi epic that one could easily call the Best Star Wars Movie Never Made.

This post contains spoilers for episode one of "Reacher" season 2.
After a long wait, Alan Ritchson's Reacher is finally back for more punching-bad-guys-really-hard in the face action. This time, there's one particular bad guy who is surely heading for one of the most epic "Reacher" beatings yet.
Prior to the second season's debut, it was announced that Robert Patrick had replaced Rory Cochrane in the role of Shane Langston, a former NYPD detective who now heads up security for a private defense contractor. While Langston doesn't appear in "Bad Luck and Trouble," the book on which "Reacher" season 2 is based, he seems to be a version of the character Allen Lamaison, an ex-LAPD officer who, in the novel, became the director of the defense contractor New Age. Either way, it's obvious from the inaugural episode of season 2 that Langston has something to do with the insidious plot to...

One of my moments of dread is the threat of random violence. The moment in the original Terminator when the machine shows up at people’s homes, knocks on their door and asks if they are Sarah Connor then promptly shoots them when they answer yes is still chilling. Drawing inspiration for me from the classically brutal Martyrs (2008) and the odd cheapy eye transplant film Mansion Of The Doomed (1976) is this lovely gripping Italian horror thriller The Goldsmith (aka L’orafo) (2022)
The film opens on a chase scene in broad daylight over urban dirt fields, three children who turn out to be younger versions of the people in the film are fleeing from an older man. Arianna (Valentina Carbone), Stefano (Matthias Cavallo) and Roberto (Federico Graziani). During the chase, the girl drops a gold cross. The old man catches up to them and reaches down for the cross. The male children charge to stop him.

Intro: There’s one line that will forever go down in movie history as one of the most iconic moments of dialogue ever, and it was almost never to be. While filming the 1984 sci-fi / action / horror classic The Terminator, director James Cameron had initially written the line for Arnold Schwarzenegger as “I’ll come back”. However, as seen in the recent Netflix documentary series on the Austrian Oak, Arnie and Cameron had a heated clash over the line. Schwarzenegger hadn’t said the line correctly so Cameron suggested he just say the now iconic “I’ll be back” instead, leading Arnie to questioning the director’s writing, and getting a suitably pissed-off response in return.
This is just one example of how The Terminator not only became one of the most beloved movie franchises in Hollywood history, well, it is if you stop at part two that is, but that’s a story for later.

We Terminator fans haven't had an easy time. I first saw "Terminator 2: Judgment Day" when I was about 10 and my dad let me stay up to watch it. Did I pretend not to be absolutely terrified by the image of the exoskeleton peeking through Arnie's torn facial flesh? Maybe. But ever since being gently traumatized by "T2," I have been in love with the franchise.
Depending on who you ask, everything after "T2" has formed a nebulous cloud of mediocrity, where flashes of scenes you may or may not remember sometimes rise to the surface only to recede into the miasma once again, leaving you questioning whether they ever existed. Did Arnie really wear star-shaped shades in "Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines?" Did they really make The Terminator into a suburban Texas dad who ran a curtain business in "Terminator: Dark Fate?" Much like Sarah Connor in "Judgment Day,...

While it's known as a sci-fi action classic, any fan of "The Terminator" knows it's basically a slasher movie with a terrifying killer robot at its center. James Cameron's 1984 breakout has been made even more terrifying by the recent advances in AI and Cameron's belief that the events in "The Terminator" could happen in real life — though that's still not quite as horrifying as whatever AI-written garbage Joe Russo helps usher into existence in the near future.
Anyway, the point is that "The Terminator," aside from being a touchstone of the sci-fi action genre, is also pretty darn scary. Arnold Schwarzenegger's cyborg killer is best described by Michael Biehn's Kyle Reese in the film when he says, "It can't be bargained with. It can't be reasoned with. It doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop ... ever, until you are dead,...

James Cameron‘s breakthrough movie, The Terminator, is a trailblazing masterpiece in the sci-fi genre. Released in 1984, the film centers on a relentless cyborg assassin known as the Terminator, which is sent back in time to eliminate the mother of the future resistance leader, Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton). Written and directed by Cameron, the movie combines groundbreaking special effects, a unique plot, and an unforgettable performance by Arnold Schwarzenegger, who portrayed the Terminator. With its thrilling action sequences, iconic one-liners, and intense cat-and-mouse chase, The Terminator not only became a box office success but also propelled both Cameron and Schwarzenegger...

James Cameron has confirmed that he’s writing the script for the next Terminator film. Despite Terminator: Dark Fate bombing at the box office in 2019, it’s not surprising that executives are still trying to give the franchise another go. When the first film came out in 1984, it created one of the greatest female protagonists in the genre: Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton). Terminator 2: Judgment Day only strengthens her character as a whole. Sarah Connor wasn’t portrayed as an ultimate warrior who spits out one-liners. She was battling some serious personal issues while trying to protect her son the best...

The Terminator is becoming an anime series for Netflix, it’s been revealed. More details this way.
Things have been quiet around The Terminator ever since the commercial failure of Terminator: Dark Fate in 2019, although the film was more warmly received by fans than other recent entries in the franchise. That said, the bar was not set too high by its immediate predecessor.
Netflix has now jumped in, anyway, and revealed details of an anime series called, appropriately enough, Terminator: The Anime Series.
The synopsis reads as follows:
2022: A future war has raged for decades between the few human survivors and an endless army of machines. 1997: The AI known as Skynet gained self-awareness and began its war against humanity. Caught between the future and this past is a soldier sent back in time to change the fate of humanity. She arrives in 1997 to protect a scientist named Malcolm Lee...

The "Halloween" franchise has been through it. John Carpenter's masterful 1978 original essentially launched the slasher craze, but the filmmaker had little creative interest in mapping out a horror franchise. He wanted to use his 1980s box office clout to make increasingly ambitious movies in all manner of fantastic genres. Still, there was simply too much money to be made off his low-budget triumph, so he reluctantly participated in its exploitation as a producer and, for a couple of films at least, story generator.

In the "Futurama" movie "Bender's Big Score," a visit to a nude beach planet revealed that Philip Fry (Billy West) had a tattoo on his butt -- a tattoo of his robot friend Bender smoking a cigar -- that he didn't know had been placed there. A closer examination of the butt tattoo revealed a miniature binary code embedded in one of the portrait's eyes. It seemed that this was a thought-to-be-mythic time-travel code that, when read aloud, manifested a portal to the past. The Professor (West) noted that time travel was dangerous as it couldn't be achieved without creating universe-threatening paradoxes.

When Linda Hamilton was cast as Sarah Connor in The Terminator, she had no idea how the character would evolve, especially since Connor was more of a stereotypical damsel in distress for the first film. But in the second, the character toughened up in a big way, playing the big screen’s best female badass since Sigourney Weaver’s Ripley in Aliens. When Terminator 2 premiered, we spoke to Hamilton, who explained the changes that had taken place in her character since the first film and told us she was much more fun to play in T2. The Mean One, along with Mad Heidi and Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey was part of an unexpected crop of horror and exploitation films based on children’s tales that dropped last Christmas. Since Dr. Suess’ Grinch is still under copyright the makers of this film had to change a few names to bring us the tale of Cindy You-Know-Who and the residents of Newville’s battle against the evil green creature known as The Mean One.
Our story begins with a familiar flashback accompanied by the rhyming narration of Christopher Sanders but, in a twist, just as young Cindy (Saphina Chanadet; Balance of the Force) is about to change The Mean One’s attitude her mother appears and attacks him, getting herself killed in the process.

Since Dr. Suess’ Grinch is still under copyright the makers of this film had to change a few names to bring us the tale of Cindy You-Know-Who and the residents of Newville’s battle against the evil green creature known as The Mean One.

Given that this scene helped complete the time loop, some fans believed that it should have been left in, but Gale Anne Hurd explained that James Cameron axed it because of the non-professional actors he was forced to use.
