Matt Johnson’s BlackBerry is one of the best movies I’ve seen this year. A fact-based account of the Waterloo, Ontario tech giant’s rise and fall in the late nineties/ early 2000s, the film can easily go head-to-head with similar, bigger-budget fare like The Social Network, The Big Short and Steve Jobs, thanks to the intriguing storyline, Johnson’s direction, and, of course, the performances. Here at JoBlo, we were lucky enough to speak to star Jay Baruchel about the film recently, and I guess the interview went pretty well, as we were invited to chat with him again – this time paired with It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia star Glenn Howerton, who co-stars.
Baruchel plays BlackBerry founder Mike Lazaridis, while Howerton plays the company’s co-ceo, Jim Basile. If you know anything about what went awry with the company, it would have been easy to paint Lazaridis as...

The Trial of the Juntas, Argentina’s reckoning with years of murderous military dictatorship, set a precedent for the nation and the world: It remains the only instance of a public judicial system trying its own country’s former government on such a scale.
Santiago Mitre’s new drama, competing in Venice, examines the landmark case from the perspective of its lead prosecutor, casting the story as that of a bureaucrat rising to a historic moment.
“Inspired by actual events,” the screenplay by Mitre and Mariano Llinás is, like its hero, more methodical than electrifying. Dialing down his natural charisma, Argentine star Ricardo Darín, of the international hit The Secret in Their Eyes and Mitre’s The Summit, delivers a performance of restraint and intense focus as Julio Strassera, a government attorney who masks his very real sense of panic with professional doggedness.

The lawsuits over the massive hack of Sony last year may be almost settled but now it seems lawsuits over the coverage have started – at least one. Nicole Basile has slapped The Hollywood Reporter’s parent company Prometheus Global Media and two of the publication’s writers with a defamation suit over a December 2014 article that she claims falsely branded her as one of the hackers.
“This Article has destroyed Ms. Basile’s reputation, rendering her an untouchable within the industry, and destroying her career,” says the complaint from the Chicago-based freelance production accountant (read it here). In her jury trial seeking filing, Basile, who denies having anything to do with the hacking, is seeking a minimum of $75,000 in damages as well as “other and further relief as this Court deems just and appropriate” on what her lawyers estimate to be over $1.4 million in lost earnings since the article came out.
