Exclusive: Jamie Oliver’s son, Buddy, is following his dad into culinary TV and kids content distributor Cake has boarded his first show.
As announced in February, he 13-year-old Buddy will star in his own show, Cooking Buddies, on UK kids channel Cbbc later this year, with The Jamie Oliver Group producing.
Cake, which sells shows such as the Total Drama franchise, has picked up worldwide rights (excl UK).
The show is based on Buddy Oliver’s cooking channel — also called Cooking Buddies — which has amassed over seven million views, prompting Sarah Muller, Senior Head of Children’s Commissioning 7+ at BBC Children’s and Education, to order a ten-part series for television. The executive producer for the Jamie Oliver Group is Samantha Beddoes.
Cooking Buddies is billed as a “fun cooking show with a twist,” in which kids join Buddy as he teaches them how to cook simple meals for someone or an important occasion.

It’s safe to say that no one saw this one coming. Danish enfant terrible Nicolas Winding Refn, director of Drive, The Neon Demon and the Pusher trilogy, has been tapped to reboot The Famous Five, based on Enid Blyton’s classic series of children’s books.
Blyton wrote 21 books on the adventures of the group of four children — Julian, Dick, Anne and George, along with their dog Timmy — beginning with Five on a Treasure Island, first published in 1942. The books have been adapted for television multiple times.

Returning to an on-site edition, Cartoon Springboard, an animation pitching get-together for on-the-rise European animators, ran Oct. 26-28 in Valencia, with 174 participants taking part.
Buzz projects included an LGBT roller derby story, “Riot5,” as well as a film, “The Mission,” imagining all of the world’s money being destroyed, and “Exit Tales,” an animated short about children fleeing their home countries.
Altogether, 24 projects were pitched from 39 animation schools, including 17 TV shows, and five features.

Australia’s favourite Blue Heeler family is headed to the BBC, with Ludo Studio’s Bluey to launch on CBeebies next month.
It will be the first time the International Emmy Award-winning series has been broadcast on free-to-air on the UK; the series streams internationally on Disney+ in all territories except China and New Zealand.
Originally co-commissioned by the ABC and BBC Studios, Bluey follows a six-year-old Blue Heeler and her adventures with her family.
The first season will air on CBeebies each weekday and at the weekends.
Following the show’s launch, the toy line will also hit the UK market via partners Moose Toys and Ravensburger.
