Hypnotize Me is a game show that has started up on the CW. For those who are curious, it features contestants who must cooperate with one another to complete routine tasks while under the influence of hypnosis. It is interesting to note that Hypnotize Me is hosted by Taye Diggs but features the hypnotist Keith Barry who has plenty of experience with this kind of entertainment. In fact, it should be mentioned that Barry was featured on the British predecessor to this show as well. What Are the Two Different Applications of Hypnosis? Anyways, there are bound to be a

Magicians as Robin Hoods, using their cardistry and escapology skills to beat The Man. That’s the idea of Now You See Me and Now You See Me 2, now in theaters. The Four Horsemen are back, and the actors behind them had to learn more illusions to play the part, with the help of chief magic and mentalism consultant Keith Barry. The approach to the magic of the franchise changed as Jon M. Chu took the director’s chair for the sequel. While the first movie featured some “illusions of tomorrow” that can’t be done in reality (Isla Fisher in a bubble!), Chu was determined to do the movie’s magic in-camera, in real time, with as little CGI as possible. With the first film, director Louis Leterrier had asked magicians, “What effects have you always wanted to perform but don’t quite have the method for it yet?...

If you had Haymitch Abernathy and the Hulk face off, you could easily predict the clear winner. But if you gave Haymitch Professor X’s powers and got him to stay sober for a few days, the Hunger Games champion would probably have the edge. Haymitch and the the big green guy’s real-life alter-egos had a meeting of the minds that had Woody Harrelson making Mark Ruffalo see green. Literally seeing green. (’Cause he's the Hulk, of course.) Harrelson, who learned the art of mentalism for his role in the Now You See Me films, got to try out his new skills on his co-star when the two of them were in New Orleans (where part of the first film was shot). It was during dinner with Keith Barry, mentalist and hypnotism consultant on 2013’s Now You See Me, and consultant for mentalism and other magic on the sequel to the magician heist movie, which hit theaters today. Barry trained Harrelson via Skype at first, then flew out to work with him in Los Angeles. They met at Soho House, where the Ireland-born mentalist hypnotized a large group of people. “And then I said [to Harrelson], ‘Okay, off you go!’” Barry recalled. “He said, ‘What do you mean?’ I said, ‘You start hypnotizing people!’ As a hypnotist, you have to prepare to fail all the time, and you do fail because there’s various levels of susceptibility, as we call it. But he embraced it, and we just had an absolute blast while we were out and about.” Woody Harrelson as Merritt McKinney in Now You See Me 2. Photo credit: Jay Maidment/Summit Entertainment Cut to a few months later, during Now You See Me’s production in New Orleans: Harrelson had honed his skills well enough to get Ruffalo to forget the number 6 and to see everything as if through a green filter. Barry contends that Ruffalo was genuinely hypnotized, though the actor says he was only pretending to be hypnotized. But, as Barry explained, proficient hypnotists can tell if someone is truly under hypnosis by looking for dilation of pupils and watching the carotid arteries in the neck. “I think Mark doesn’t even know the truth himself,” Barry told me. So I was curious: If mentalists can get people to literally see green, can they change how we see green and red, giving us the experience of different kinds of color blindness? “Yeah, pretty much anything psychological can happen with hypnosis. So, yeah, color blindness is actually quite easy,” Barry said. “I can make myself invisible, float objects around.” Seriously, this dude is Professor X. [I’ll break here to warn you that there’s a Spoiler about the big reveal in the first Now You See Me film a couple paragraphs down.] We’ll have our full video interview with Barry on HitFix next week, but I’ll share one more tidbit from our chat today: His favorite movies about magicians — aside from the Now You See Me movies of course — are The Prestige and The Illusionist (which both came out in 2006). “Those were amazing movies,” he said. “If I was to pick a favorite between the two, I’d probably go with The Illusionist. I just think Ed Norton was amazing in it.” Lesson learned: Hulks make good illusionists. Okay, Eric Bana, when’s your magician movie coming out? Now You See Me 2 opens in theaters today and also stars Jesse Eisenberg, Dave Franco, Lizzy Caplan, Daniel Radcliffe, Jay Chou, Morgan Freeman, and Michael Caine.

In a world of children’s party illusionists and ambiguously friendly magician teams, Now You See Me 2 does something amazing for the artistic expression of trickery – it makes magic sexy again. Forget what you thought about that annoying kid who always had some new card trick to butcher during school lunches. Jon M. Chu’s mystifying sequel brings a coolness back to magicians that Criss Angel tarnished once he got his own show on A&E. Magic is supposed to make your jaw drop, and that’s the kind of spellbinding blockbuster that Chu’s crew cooks up.
Chu is no stranger to sequels (just check his entire filmography), which gives him a serviceable advantage. Not only does he have to continue a story about renegade magician criminals, but he has to do so minus a main character (Isla Fisher), and with even more big names added to the...

More members of the public are about to be hypnotised to do stupid things on primetime television, because You're Back In The Room has been renewed for a second series by ITV.
The channel announced today that they have ordered four more episodes of the show, which is hosted by Phillip Schofield.
In each instalment, five strangers have to complete what seem like simple games - except hypnotist Keith Barry has put them under and will make them self-sabotage as they attempt to win a cash prize.
"I'm incredibly excited to be back with a second series," Schofield said. "I don't think anything could have prepared me for the genuinely hilarious and completely unexpected moments that happened in the first series.
"Each of the contestants were thoroughly entertaining, and I can't wait to see what happens this time around!"

TV is a bit confusing tonight, as there's at least one show having it's "Time Slot Premiere" that was on last night ("Jon Benjamin Has a Van") another show which I literally did not know existed until yesterday is premiering tonight ("Happily Divorced") and "Toddlers and Tiaras" is coming back. I think that last one is happening for reasons that have everything to do with the fact that the universe is a bleak and empty place devoid of a loving and just God. Also there's the Stanley Cup final game, but if you're not a big hockey fan the series has already given us the very best thing we could have hoped for in the form of this video of Rachel McAdams hamming it up for the Jumbotron during Game 4. Honestly, as much as "Toddlers and Tiaras" pushes me towards nihilism, the exuberance of Ms.McAdams's chair dance pushes me back in the other direction.

Tonight is one of those nights where there's actually a bunch of shows listed, considering that we're fully into the summer TV season, but it really seems like there's not much on at all. Like, as I'm typing these shows out I'm thinking "why?" but not in a mean way, in more of a genuinely curious "how did this come to happen" sort of way. Honestly, I think we just have too many TV channels and yet they keep coming up with more. There's only so many "Law and Order" reruns to go around, people! Actually, that's probably the next channel that will happen. The "Law and Order" channel showing nothing but 24 hours of grim procedural work featuring stony faced detectives and righteous prosecutors fighting the good fight. Here's your Wednesday night TV:

There are times when I have to sit back and look on the self-cannibalizing nature of television with a kind of sick admiration. My favorite example has always been "Trading Spouses" which went from a skit on "Chappelle's Show" mocking the "Trading Spaces" model by substituting people trading their actual marriages to an actual reality series where people... traded families. Last year there was a fictional series on Lifetime called "Huge" which was set in a weight-loss camp for teenagers. The kids on the show watched a TV series called "Love Handles" which was about overweight contestants battling to find love. "Huge" was cancelled after its first season. Tonight, we see the premiere of "Love Handles" on Lifetime which is a show where a couple go through "a dual transformation as overweight couples attempt to save their lives and relationships as they confront what lies at the core of their issues.

CBS has signed up magician and psychological illusionist Keith Barry for an entertainment special. The special, executive produced by Who Wants to Be a Millionaire and Wife Swap producer Michael Davies, will showcase Barry's magic skills and intuitive capabilities. Barry will perform his repertoire -- which ranges from card tricks and sleight of hand to psychological manipulation and instant-induction hypnosis to such death-defying acts as catching a bullet in his teeth and driving while blindfolded -- on different celebrities.
