After Di Jimmy Perez deliberately sacrificed his career in the name of justice (if not the law) and went off to pastures new with nurse Meg at the end of series seven, Shetland now has a new sheriff in town. Sort of.
While DS Tosh performs the duties of acting Di at Lerwick Police Station, detective Ruth Calder has come up from London in search of a missing witness in a serious crime case. It just so happens that Calder is an old Shetlander who left the islands as a teenager and was glad to be rid of the place, where she’s confronted by some old ghosts.
Ugly Betty and Agatha Raisin’s Ashley Jensen plays Calder, along with a new guest cast of Scottish stars as well as Shetland’s returning favourites. The latter includes Alison O’Donnell as DS Alison ‘Tosh’ McIntosh, Steven Robertson as DC Sandy Wilson,...

Part one of the second season of The Lincoln Lawyer ended with the prosecution finding conclusive evidence to prove that Lisa Tramwell is the one who murdered business tycoon Mitchell Bondurant. The prosecution got hold of her garden gloves, which had traces of the victim’s blood. The fifth episode also included Mickey getting beaten up in the car parking area by a bunch of goons. This was done only to put Mickey on the back foot for the upcoming trial. The next five episodes will all be about Mickey giving his 100 percent to make sure Lisa does not get jail time for something she claims is innocent of. As her lawyer, he will have to believe the words of his client and prove the same to the court.

Putting a client on the stand can have some net positives, but it is almost usually a bad idea. A bad idea seems good when you're out of options.
After the developments on The Lincoln Lawyer Season 2 Episode 8, Mickey was at a loss for what to do and decided to put Lisa on the stand.
Lisa told an emotional story on The Lincoln Lawyer Season 2 Episode 9, and it was effective because it might have been the truth.
She covered all her bases, beginning with why she never wanted to sell to Bondurant.
Lisa: My father bought the building for next to nothing. He made cabinets. So he ran a shop on one side and raised a family on the other. I wanted to do the same thing.
Mickey: You live there as well?
Lisa: Yes, it's my home. That's why I didn't want to sell it to Mitchell Bondurant or to anyone.

Our The Lincoln Lawyer Season 1 Episode 3 review presented that taking everything about Lisa Trammel with a grain of salt was wise.
It was important to question most of what she told Mickey because there was a fair chance she might have killed Mitchel Bondurant and was trying to cover herself.
As the case progressed and more evidence started to emerge, that was looking like the truth with every passing episode.
She hid things and seemed to have an explanation for everything, and some things about her past didn't quite add up.
The discovery of the murder weapon was a game-changer for both the prosecution and the defense.
Mickey was shaken by that development -- a first for him -- as it would nail Lisa to the cross in broad daylight.
But in a court of law, everything is open to scrutiny, and the timing of the murder weapon could not have been more suspect.

D-day!
Everything that had happened on The Lincoln Lawyer Season 2 so far had been leading up to this day -- The People vs. Lisa Trammel.
Supporters and opposers packed the courtroom in the gallery. As usual, Judge Medina was not a fan of theatrics, so everyone needed to make their case by sticking to the facts.
The Lincoln Lawyer Season 2 Episode 7 picked up on the first day of the trial, and it was time to present opening statements.
Every part of a trial, especially with a jury, is important. You must make great impressions throughout or risk losing someone, which can be the final nail in someone's coffin.
It was disappointing that we didn't see the jury selection process, which is usually the first of a series of important tasks.
Mickey's words taught us that one juror might be on their side, and usually, that's all lawyers need.
Legal: Now,...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for all of The Lincoln Lawyer Season 2 Part 2.] Mickey (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo) is ready to leave one case behind him (especially considering how messy it got with Lana Parrilla‘s Lisa), only for The Lincoln Lawyer Season 2 to end with a tragic surprise at the morgue. When Mickey calls Izzy (Jazz Raycole) to check on the car that Alex Grant (Michael A. Goorjian) was driving — after nearly getting run over by one — she informs him of a new client, Julian Lacosse, being held at the West Hollywood sheriff’s station. He’s being charged with murder and said he can pay Mickey’s fee, no problem. Julian tells him that a friend, Giselle Dallinger, recommended him. Mickey doesn’t recognize that name, but Julian insists he has to know her, and she said if he was ever in trouble, to call him because he’s the best lawyer in town. Now, Giselle is dead,...

When a show has a split release format, it must always conform to the regular TV standards of crafting a cliffhanger or a mini cliffhanger to keep people excited so they might consider returning.
It happened on The Lincoln Lawyer Season 1 Episode 5 when unknown assailants attacked Mickey and beat him properly.
But a short while before the beating, a frustrated Mickey said some awful things to Lorna, making for an additional cliffhanger.
They should have been enough to explore for at least two episodes if both were important enough to mark the midseason.
Izzy found Mickey in time and had him rushed to the hospital, where he recovered from his injuries nicely.
But he didn't have the luxury of sitting around waiting on his body, not when his mind was sharp and he had a case to win.

The fourth episode of The Lincoln Lawyer ended with the plea bargain offered to Mickey and Lisa being off the table, which proves that Andrea has a smoking gun that could derail the defense. Mickey is guessing it might be about Lisa’s ex-husband, but he is not ready to make any judgment as of now. How will Part 1 of the show end? Is there any hope for Lisa?

Mickey’s Attraction
The episode opens with Mickey dreaming about Lisa, and it proves the fact that Mickey can’t stop thinking about his client, and it is morally unethical to even have a physical and emotional relationship with someone you’re representing. It is also considered a conflict of interest because the outcome of the case would benefit Mickey as well as Lisa. They should be thankful that the media has not caught up on the two dates they had; otherwise,...

Shetland’s Series 7 return is a bittersweet one for fans of the Scottish BBC crime drama. The six-episode run will be actor Douglas Henshall’s last in the lead role of Di Jimmy Perez. Henshall’s departure though, doesn’t mean the end for Shetland, which has been renewed for an eighth series due to arrive in 2023. A new, as-yet-unannounced, lead actor will be joining the returning cast for that run.
Series 7, which starts on BBC One on Wednesday the 10th of August at 9pm, promises to tie up Perez’s loose ends and follow up on last series’ will-they-won’t-they frisson with Irish carer Meg. Before Perez says his final goodbye to the evidence board though, there’s a missing person case to solve, and a host of new characters to interrogate. Here’s who he’ll be meeting…
