The first season of Legendary’s MonsterVerse TV series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters ran on Apple TV+ from November into January (you can read our own Alex Maidy’s review of the first batch of episodes Here), and while Godzilla was an important figure in that season, it wrapped up with an episode that indicated Kong might be taking the spotlight if there were to be a follow-up. The show was co-developed by Chris Black (Star Trek: Enterprise) and Matt Fraction (Hawkeye), and during a recent interview with Gold Derby, Black said that Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2 is aiming to be bigger and better – while giving viewers the Kong action they’re hoping to see.
Black told Gold Derby (with thanks to our friends at Bloody Disgusting for the transcription), “I think where we left the season gave us so much fertile territory for storytelling. Keiko comes back, we...

In the wake of the box office success of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire and the small screen success of “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters,” Legendary is leaning even harder into the Monsterverse that kicked off back in 2014. We’ve learned this afternoon that “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” Season 2 has been officially ordered up for Apple TV+!
Additionally, “Apple TV+ has also struck a new multi-series deal with Legendary Entertainment, which includes multiple spinoff series based on the franchise.”

Severance is “Back to work.” Director and executive producer Ben Stiller took to Instagram this morning to confirm that the Apple TV+ drama series had returned to production after a months-long delay due to the Hollywood strikes.
Stiller’s Instagram post, captioned “Back to work,” features a black-and-white photo of star Adam Scott running through what appears to be a hallway at Lumon Industries.
Severance had paused production on Season 2 in May when the WGA went on strike, which was then followed by the SAG-AFTRA walkout. With both strikes long resolved, production is now back on course.
From creator and writer Dan Erickson and Stiller, Severance stars Scott as Mark Scout, who leads a team at Lumon Industries, whose employees have undergone a severance procedure, which surgically divides their memories between their work and personal lives. This daring experiment in ‘work-life balance’ is called into question as Mark finds himself...

Welcome back to Lumon.
“Severance” Season 2 has returned to production, which was delayed for months due to the Hollywood strikes.
Season 2 of the popular Apple TV+ thriller stopped shooting in May 2023 when the Writers Guild of America first went on strike against the studios represented by the AMPTP. The writers strike ended on Sept. 26, but by that point, SAG-AFTRA was 74 days into a strike of its own. Now that SAG-AFTRA has also reached a deal with the studios, everyone in Hollywood is cleared to go back to work, and “Severance” is back on track.

Godzilla fans are eating really well right now. Legendary’s Monsterverse franchise continues to grow as big as their stars, as the first entry started with 2014’s Godzilla, then continued with 2017’s Kong: Skull Island, then 2019’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters, and finally bringing the gargantuas face-to-face in 2020’s Godzilla vs Kong. Apple TV+ has also recently premiered Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, which chronicles the secret agency that investigates and polices the activity of these ancient beasts. Add to that the recent release of the critically and audience-acclaimed Japanese film, Godzilla Minus One, currently in theaters. And this past weekend, Warner Bros. released the trailer for a new Monsterverse film, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.
While Monarch has already premiered with the father-son star power of Kurt and Wyatt Russell, Apple has now unveiled a trailer for the second half of the season. The official synopsis for the series reads,...

Movie franchises moving to the small screen tend to come with significant caveats, thanks to lower budgets.
Fortunately, no expense was spared in producing the Apple TV+ drama series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, a new series based on Legendary's Monserverse.
The official trailer for the highly-anticipated project dropped during a New York Comic-Con panel for the series, and let's just say we're convinced.
The impressive cast includes Kurt Russell, Wyatt Russell, Anna Sawai, Kiersey Clemons, Ren Watabe, Mari Yamamoto, Anders Holm, Joe Tippett, and Elisa Lasowski.
That's a perfect cast who bring their A-game in the trailer, showcasing a very different world after the battle between Godzilla and the Titans.
With San Francisco pretty much obliterated in that battle, there's a desire for answers about why monsters have become so prominent.

“Severance,” “Everything Everywhere All at Once” and “Women Talking” took home top prizes at the Writers Guild of America Awards, Hollywood’s final major awards ceremony before next week’s 95th Oscars.
But the bigger message that emerged from the night was how the industry’s scribe tribe is engaged and ready to back their guild in the upcoming contract talks for a new master film and TV contract.
“Welcome to the Writers Guild Awards and strike authorization vote,” said host Janelle James, star of “Abbott Elementary,” at the start of the Los Angeles ceremony, held at the Fairmont Century Plaza hotel. Comedian Michelle Buteau led the New York festivities, which ran concurrently at New York’s Edison Ballroom.
Buteau kicked off New York’s night with a joke that broke the ice regarding the WGA’s looming contract negotiations: “I hope everyone enjoyed the cocktail hour. That was the studios’ counteroffer to streaming residuals.

Writers had to share the spotlight with independent filmmakers and sound designers last night, but they’ll have it all to themselves tonight when the 75th annual Writers Guild of America awards are officially unveiled.
The WGA Awards took place in concurrent ceremonies tonight at New York’s Edison Ballroom and Los Angeles’ Fairmont Century Plaza. The Writers Guild of America West (Wgaw) and the Writers Guild of America, East (Wgae) labor unions represent writers in motion pictures, television, cable, digital media, and broadcast news.
Michelle Buteau was hosting from New York and said she felt “luckier than Pete Davidson’s dick” to be presiding over the ceremony. Her raucous monologue included lines such as, “Tom Cruise is more of a ‘Bottom Gun’ than a ‘Top Gun.'”

Sunday’s 75th Writers Guild of America Awards will conclude the guild season (and a four-guild kudos weekend). Will they portend good things to come at the Oscars for the winners?
“Everything Everywhere All at Once,” written by Daniel Kwan & Daniel Scheinert, and “Women Talking,” written by Sarah Polley, are projected to win the Best Original Screenplay and Best Adapted Screenplay prizes, respectively. The caveat, of course, is that neither is facing its top Oscar competition at WGA due to the guild’s eligibility requirements. Martin McDonagh‘s “The Banshees of Inisherin” script, which won the Golden Globe and BAFTA, is Awol in original, as is Oscar nominee “Triangle of Sadness.” And BAFTA’s adapted screenplay champ “All Quiet on the Western Front,” written by Edward Berger, Lesley Paterson and Ian Stokell, is ineligible, along with Oscar nominee “Living.”
