Why was the first-ever movie premiere at the restored United Artists Theatre at the Ace Hotel in downtown Los Angeles packed with hipsters Tuesday night? While the likes of Miranda July and Mike Mills, Miguel Artega, Chloe Sevigny, Vincent Gallo, Rian Johnson and Karina Longworth, The Ravenettes' Sharin Foo, Matt Dentler, Catherine Hardwicke, David Lowery and Kevin Smith were checking out the gloriously ornate 1600-seat 1927 movie palace, which was hosting its first premiere in 25 years, they were also eager to see Jonathan Glazer's visually stunning "Under the Skin," starring Scarlett Johansson, which A24 scooped up out of Venice, Telluride and Toronto, where it earned claps and boos. (Reviews are more upbeat.) The long-in-the works atmospheric sci-fi thriller backed by a hodge-podge of financiers (including Film Four, BFI, Scottish Screen, Silver Reel and foreign sales company FIlmNation) opens stateside in select cities on April 4th. (Trailer below.) Could it work here.

In September, Danish rock duo The Raveonettes will release their 6th full length album, Observator. It's been ten years now since these two talented artists, that share a taste for both noise pop and '60s rock, broke onto the Danish music scene. Sune Rose Wagner and Sharin Foo have been flooding our ears with new sounds ever since, especially over the last two years. Last year, The Raveonettes released a studio album and a rarities disc, while this year we've already been given a four song Ep by the group. Earlier this week, the band premiered the video for their newest single off of their forthcoming album. "She Owns The Streets" isn't just a unique New York themed video, it also has an interesting back story.

The Whip It soundtrack. Not as easy as it looks, this soundtrack compiling malarkey. When I ruminated on which tunes might have trundled their way onto the tie-in record for Drew Barrymore’s roller derby-derived directorial debut Whip It, I got stuck at the grand total of two. The Devo number which shares its title with the Ellen Page-starring movie was one of course, while I also figured that a flick about female roller-skaters represented a most inviting opportunity to smuggle the Anna Karina-trilled/Serge Gainsbourg-penned power pop nugget Roller Girl onto the soundtrack of a major motion picture. But beyond that duo of offerings, I was clean outta ideas. No such difficulties for Whip It’s soundtrack supervisor and long-time Wes Anderson cohort Randall Poster though, as he has managed to er, whip up a 19 song-strong album that arrays veteran stagers next to bright young things,...

Kate Moss had a furious argument with her boyfriend after discovering he had a vial of his ex-girlfriend's blood.
The British supermodel became incensed when she discovered the gory keepsake alongside love letters Raveonettes frontwoman Sharin Foo had written The Kills rocker Jamie Hince, and is now convinced her boyfriend is still infatuated with Sharin.
A source said: "Jamie has always been a romantic, when he falls for someone he's completely engrossed in them. Jamie and Sharin took to wearing eachother's blood in vials around their necks and exchanged romantic notes when they were away on tour. Jamie kept them all."
"He could never bring himself to throw them away. But now Kate's found them she's gone through the roof. She has demanded to know why Jamie had all these reminders of a past relationship."...
