It has been more than half a decade since Avengers: Infinity War was released, but the movie continues to set precedence when it comes to VFX and graphics. One of the most spectacular Marvel movies ever made. Not only did it contain numerous memorable scenes, but its graphics were considered by many fans as Oscar-worthy.
MCU’s Avengers: Infinity War (2018)
While fans have since complained about the diminishing quality of subsequent Marvel movies, Infinity War continues to be used as a cornerstone when it comes to VFX. One brilliant example of what went behind the creation of the epic is Peter Dinklage’s cameo. And a funny BTS detail about his shot with Chris Hemsworth only proves how much of an effort it took to create the movie.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is as huge as it can get with countless superheroes and superhero teams and the many iterations of them in the comics as well as on the big screen. Yet the Avengers have remained the top-tier team in both formats, closely followed by the band of space misfits, the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, the Avengers
Both teams have often found themselves pitted against each other in one or the other fan discussions. Although there have been a few instances where both teams went head to head, there hasn’t been a clear winner. Yet James Gunn, writer-director of the MCU’s Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, reckons that the Guardians would be a clear winner in such a fight.

The State of the Race
Gareth Edwards’ “The Creator” was the big winner at the 22nd Visual Effects Society Awards (held February 21 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel). The AI-themed, sci-fi actioner earned five awards: the top VFX photoreal prize, modeling (Nomad), created environment (Floating Village), effects simulations, and compositing & lighting (Bar).
As an Oscar predictor, though, the Ves has only connected four out of the last seven years, which means the surging “Godzilla Minus One” should not be counted out despite being a non-factor at the Ves Awards (Rocket from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.

Director James Gunn brought a new level of emotional power to “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” by making the wisecracking Rocket (voiced by Bradley Cooper) and his tragic backstory the centerpiece of the finale. This required the Oscar-nominated VFX (led by Marvel’s production VFX supervisor Stéphane Ceretti) to up its game considerably to meet the demands of Gunn’s intimate scale and epic scope.
Framestore (led by VFX supervisor Alexis Wajsbrot) was tasked with expanding and improving its keyframe animation of Rocket through six stages, from genetically altered baby raccoon to hardened weapons expert. This allowed for greater nuance and complexity in the facial performance along with more detailed fur and an evolved gait and physiology. “It’s really a chain of artists that work together and get that to the level where other humans looking at it are crying because of a CG raccoon,” Ceretti told IndieWire in the video below.

When we surveyed our readers about Vin Diesel's best role in 2023, the results were rather illuminating. The actor's "Fast & Furious" counterpart, Dominic Toretto, came in shockingly low, lagging well behind The Iron Giant and Groot. That's right, a giant robot with a limited vocabulary and a sentient tree that only repeats the same sentence over and over were considered better roles for him than the Fast Fam's supposedly beloved patriarch. The number one spot went to Riddick B. Riddick, a morally flexible antihero who would just as soon leave his pals for dead than stick his neck out for them.
Why do these characters fit Diesel so well? Well, if I may be so bold, I would say it's because they all have one thing in common: They don't require him to be remotely sexy.
Now, it's worth clarifying that when I say Diesel isn't "sexy," I'm in no way trashing his appearance.

This article contains spoilers for "What If...?" season 2.
"What If...?" season 2 only just premiered on Disney+ and brought with it another round of fascinating adventures through the multiverse. The Marvel Cinematic Universe could have turned out any number of ways -- had certain characters made different choices along the way. This new season kicks off with a Nebula-focused episode titled "What If... Nebula Joined the Nova Corps?" As the title implies, it sees the adopted daughter of Thanos taking something of a hero's turn as a member of the Nova Corps. But that gritty hero's journey almost wandered down a dark path.
Showrunner A.C. Bradley recently sat down with IGN to break down the show's second season. In discussing the season premiere, which was written by Matthew Chauncey, Bradley explained that the whole thing came about simply because the show's creatives love Karen Gillan's work as Nebula (and...

"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" ended with a new team of Guardians led by Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper). One of their number was Phyla (Kai Zen), a young white-haired girl and freed test subject of evil geneticist the High Evolutionary (Chukwudi Iwuji).
If you're a comics fan, then yes, you likely realized that this was indeed the Marvel Cinematic Universe incarnation of the hero Phyla-Vell. If you only watch the movies, you're still thinking (to quote Korath the Pursuer), "Who?!" Well, let me explain.
In the comics, Phyla is the daughter of Captain Marvel — the alien warrior Mar-Vell, not Carol Danvers. Annette Benning played a female version of Mar-Vell in 2019's "Captain Marvel," but the character is traditionally male. Mar-Vell and his progeny are Kree, the imperious race to which "Guardians of the Galaxy" villain Ronan The Accuser (Lee Pace) belonged. The Kree have both blue and pink-shaded skin...

We take CGI for granted these days. It seems the only time we notice it is when something is wrong. If you get into acting in 2023, you know that there is a strong likelihood that you'll be working in front of a screen, imagining characters that aren't there and scenery that you can't really see. It's a very specific skill, trying to make people believe that you, too, can see what the audience is seeing. When "Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace" (1999) was filming, however, star Natalie Portman, who played Padmé Amidala, hadn't had much experience with it at all.
This amount of work in front of a blue screen added a lot of issues that she hadn't dealt with in the industry before. To be fair, "The Phantom Menace" had a lot more CGI than most films at the time. Whether you believe that was to the...

In recent years, the superhero genre has dominated the film industry, with Marvel and DC churning out multiple blockbusters annually. However, not everyone believes this trend is sustainable or even beneficial for the genre. One such voice is Matthew Vaughn, the acclaimed director behind “Kingsman” and “X-Men: First Class.”
The Over-Saturation of Superhero Films
Matthew Vaughn
Vaughn has been quite vocal about his concerns regarding the current trajectory of superhero films. In a candid interview with ScreenRant, he expressed his belief that the genre might be suffering from over-saturation. He remarked, “I genuinely don’t know what’s happening with the superhero [genre] in the sense that, I do think, maybe we all need a little bit of time off from it.” He further elaborated that while superhero films are indeed films, the emphasis has shifted more towards the superhero aspect, sidelining the essence of filmmaking.
